PSS Excursionist: The Commons Room
"Captain Ak'sel, you have fallen. Allow me to lift you," she listened to the Freckan speak softly the words while grabbing her to give stabilization. "Thank you, Fish Boy," she whispered lifting the tips of her fingers towards her forehead, wiping away the sweat on the surface. "You too, Cu," the Captain thanked the other Picker as he too assisted her in retaining balance. Making a return back to her seat, Askel clutched onto Cu's shoulder, feeling as her hand sunk deep into the strains of fur. He was surprisingly soft, for a hardened creature that was unexpected to the Captain, far more than the fashion of his entrance.
Once at the table, Aksel remained quiet again though this time she did not stare down. Instead, she scanned the room, areas leaning towards the ceiling. She lend ear to the continued questions but understanding that she rounded those who agreed to the plan. Eventually, once all ceased to speak, Askel recollected herself, straightening into her usual firm posture. "Don't worry about the cameras... I took care of it already, tracking system included. Of course we would not be having this meeting if the Council held access to the ship's surveillance system. I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to hacking, but even that was not needed." From her pocket she reveal the white back of a card. "As you Pickers probably know, each one of us officials on the ship- me, the lieutenant, and the pilot, all have an administrative card permitting us to activate certain technical functions. But what you were never suppose to know, is with a swipe of one of these cards, we can shut off all online connections. But that action is only taken in extreme cases, such as our cyber security program being infiltrated. Some of your more high-tech pirates are known to hack both ship tracking and surveillance systems. The last resort to all of this is going offline. But a part of protocol is gaining permission from the Council before doing so. If a ship is switched offline without it, the last thing received online on their end will be which card was swiped, thus supposedly who swiped it. So if I used my card, it would be assumed that I cut off connections. But I didn't use my card... I used Nine's."
The Captain turned the card she was holding around with the Pilot's ID clearly facing her. She laid the card down in front of Nine, "While you were snoozing in the cockpit, I snatched it off you. I didn't have many options." Aksel imagined Nine found what she did to her intensely appalling, not only is she forced into this mission without a say, she cannot have a say even if Askel gave her one now. The Council now sees Niseli Lesvab a threat to cut online connections with the PSS Excursionist. Without allowing Nine to speak, Aksel continued, "So the cameras won't be a problem, however our radar is offline. But we won't be detected on radars ourselves. We will see them as much and as far as they see us. This ship was created to withstand pirates, however it would be more ideal if we had an active radar system. If it is likely for us to trade for a different ship on the Nomad, that would be best.
The Nomad can possibly get us weapons, a new ship, and probably clues. It would not hurt to trifle with information dealers, although they can be expensive. But we have to be vague... and careful. Other than dealing with them, everything else should be relatively cheap, there is a lot of competition when it comes to making sales on the Nomad.
We are going to have to break up into teams. Nine, you are going to find your contact for the weapons, one other will have to go with you. Pax, go with her, just in case. Ven, I want you to speak with the information dealers, your persuasion skills and poker face will keep our plans low profile. Riggs, I want you to go with him, your stealth skills will come in handy also. As for a new ship, once Nine finishes with the weapons dealer I want you, Grick, to accompany her as I feel you understand engine maintenance. Z will guard the ship while we are gone, but once you, Pax, are finish with Nine report back here and guard the ship also. As for you Cu, you will stick with me, supposedly you will be trying to find a slaver willing to buy me. You will be my ears, eyes, and voice to the mission, as I will not be able to communicate to the rest via comm, but instead you are going to have to pass along the word, once I am ever given a chance to speak with you in private.”
Finally, the captain closed with this, “That is the mission, we all have our roles. It is stereotypical for Picker ships to revert to mutiny, thus this won't attract as much attention as you my merely believe. I am still your Captain, though for now, for the sake of the situation, I will play the part of a slave. Trusting you, well that is my biggest risk, but I have not heard anyone refusing the entire situation itself. Most of you have picked up on the most logical reason for my purpose in defying the Council, if they really did kill an entire race off, then what would stop them from doing the same to a hundred more? If this turns into a real mutiny, I will have no other choice but accept that.
Now, I need a volunteer. Who is going to hit me until this Villianian turns black and blue? The rest of you are dismissed… Unless it just satisfied your sadistic little heart to watch.”
