THE UNREAL STORY OF GPW
Global Pro Wrestling, GPW, is the worldwide leader in sports entertainment. The company was originally founded as a regional wrestling promotion based in northeastern United States, centered around the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden in New York City. As the territory grew in popularity it began to expand, bypassing sacred territorial boundaries and competing with promotions in other markets. At the time, the New York territory was still a member of the World Wrestling Alliance, a committee comprised of the top promoters from around the world, recognizing a single World Champion that traveled between the territories defending his Title. By encroaching on neighboring territories, GPW had violated the terms and conditions of World Wrestling Alliance membership. This could not have come at a worse time, as the WWA World Heavyweight Title was scheduled to be defended in Madison Square Garden against New York's top contender. The Championship match would end in controversial fashion, ultimately leading to Global Pro Wrestling's succession from the WWA and recognition of their own World Heavyweight Champion.
In the years since then, Global Pro Wrestling has grown to become the number one wrestling company on the planet, and the WWA has imploded along with it's territorial system. GPW now dominates the wrestling world, and the GPW World Heavyweight Championship stands as a symbol of the company's greatness, the most prestigious Championship in sports entertainment today. Due to recent developments however, the GPW World Title has been declared vacant. It has been announced that a tournament will be held to crown a new World Heavyweight Champion, a Champion capable of leading the company into the future. For Global Pro Wrestling, a new era is about to begin...
THE RULES
This isn't your standard RP, this is a professional wrestling eFederation. Basically, an eFederation is an online wreslting organization where players "compete" against one another to win matches and championships. In Global Pro Wrestling, players will have the opportunity to control up to 3 different wrestlers. Applying to be a part of the fed is the same as applying to take part in any other RP. If you're interested simply fill out a character sheet. I will inform you when you have been accepted into the group and from there you can post you CS in the Characters section.
As the GM of the thread, I will be in the role of the "booker", or matchmaker, in charge of deciding who faces who and each GPW "event". Depending on the number of players there could be between 5-8 matches at a given event. In the OOC section I'll post the lineup of matches for the upcoming show. Questions about the matches and storyline suggestions are also handled in the OOC section or by PMing me. If you want your character to viciously assault their opponent before the match, PM me about it. If you think your character should interfere in another match, PM me about it. There's no guarantee that all of your suggestions will make it into the show, but I definitely want to hear them. I want this to be a collaborative process. Feel free to provide input on character direction not just for yourself, but for other players. It doesn't mean they have to take their character in that direction if they don't want to, but it's cool to see what other people come up with.
From there, it's up to the players to post "promos" in the IC section. After the matches are posted, players will be given about a week to write their in-character promos for the matches. A promo is when a wrestler speaks about their upcoming match. This can be done in a number of ways, though it's typically done through an interview or some kind of fancy video package. In your promo it's your job to talk trash about your opponent, build-up your rivalry and match, and showcase you character's personality. Promos are the main way you interact with the story as it allows you to take your character or feud into a particular direction. Based on these promos and the direction of the story, it's then up to me as the booker to determine the outcomes of the matches and post the results of the show. Shows results will also be posted in the IC section, and will be presented as though the reader is experiencing a live wrestling broadcast on television.
What makes a good promo? A good promo is all about selling the match, putting over yourself, and most importantly, putting over your opponent. If you say that your opponent sucks and your going to easily kick his ass that doesn't accomplish anything. If you win, it's not that impressive because you just beat a guy that sucks. And if you lose its even worse because you lost to a guy that sucks. So instead of saying "I'm going to show the world how much John Cena sucks when I kick his ass this Sunday night!" you might want to say, "John Cena is undoubtedly one of the absolute best ever. A 15-time World Champion. A guy that's done it all in this business. But Sunday night, live on pay-per-view, I'm going to prove to the world that as good as Cena is, I am simply that much better." That's the difference. Also, try to use proper spelling.
We are always looking for new talent. If you would like to join please do not hesitate to apply, or send my a PM if you have any questions. We want to have as large a roster as possible. Currently GPW offers two major championships: the GPW World Heavyweight Championship and the GPW Tag-Team Championship. As we expand, more titles may be added.
Here's a summary of the general writing process...
1. I will post the match card for the upcoming show in the OOC section.
2. Players post promos for their matches in the IC section.
3. Based on the promos, and other player input, I will write the results of the show and post them in the IC section. All results are final.
CHARACTER SHEET
Insert an image of your wrestler at the top of the sheet. Please do not use any anime/manga style images. Your best bet is to just use an image of a real wrestler, past or present, as the basis for your character's appearance.
Name:
Hometown:
Height:
Weight:
Alignment: Face or Heel, that's it. There are no tweeners. Tweeners do not actually exist in wrestling. You can be an anti-hero if you want, but that still makes you a face.
Gimmick: Are you an arrogant womanizer? A crazy ass redneck from Texas? A mysterious master of mind games? Give a short description of your basic character. The more well-define your character is the better. John Cena is more than just a good guy that never gives up. He is a guy that stands by his principles even in the face of overwhelming animosity, he's a role model for kids, he's a former rapper, he's an American patriot with a deep respect for the men and women of the military. His character has become something multifaceted and interesting. Try to develop your character in the same way.
Entrance Music: include a link to the song on youtube if possible.
Entrance Description:
Wrestling Style: Are you a powerhouse? A high-flier? A wrestling technician?
Finishing Move: Don't have more than two.
Signature Moves: Your standard moves we are going to see every match. If you're a babyface, have a sequence of moves for when you make your comeback. If you're a heel, have some go-to dirty tactics to help take the advantage. Feel free to list anywhere from 5-10 signature moves. Any more than that is redundant, it's not about having a fancy repertoire, it's about telling a story. At the end of the day, all wrestlers do the same shit every match just in slightly different ways.
