Max Power

Name: Max Power
Hometown: Freedom, California
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 275 lbs
Entrance Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi51kkMepn0

Alignment: Babyface.

Gimmick: The classic babyface. A real life superhero. Never gives up and always does what's right. A flag-waving American patriot that stands up and fights for American values.

Personality: A man that has been consumed by his fear of losing the spotlight and will do whatever it takes in order to stay on top. Motivated both by a selfish desire for personal glory, and by a genuine love of his role as a hero to young fans. Has naturally developed a considerable ego based on his many past successes and has become blinded by his own arrogance. Often blames others for his own shortcomings and limitations, and stubbornly refuses to evolve his outdated babyface persona.

Biography: Perhaps unsurprisingly, Max Power started out as a bodybuilder before eventually breaking into the wrestling business. His impressive physique earned him an opportunity with GPW, which at the time was owned and operated by Jack Flanagan's father. Flanagan himself was an on-screen talent playing the role of a heel manager, and he was paired with Max Power upon his debut. Max was originally positioned as a monster heel, a man of few words whose talking was done primarily by his mouthpiece Flanagan. However, his dominant displays of strength in the ring were soon met with cheers from fans, and it became clear that Power's money would be made as a babyface.

Once Jack took over the company following his father's death, the wheels were put in motion for a Max Power face turn. Tension began to develop between Max and Jack on-screen, ultimately culminating with Max turning on his manager and decking him in the jaw. Wrestling history was about to be made. Initially, there was some concern that Max would be unable to carry himself on the microphone but those concerns were soon dashed as he became one of the best promos in the business. His raw intensity and natural charisma allowed him to connect with the fans, and his never say die babyface persona propelled him to superstardom.

Max captured the GPW World Heavyweight Championship, and brought the company unparalleled success as Champion. Throughout the 1980s, Max dominated the wrestling scene, and his name became synonymous not just with GPW but with wrestling as a whole. In the early 1990s however, a cultural shift occurred in the United States. Fans grew tired of the traditional babyface schtick they had seen for so long, and eventually began to turn on their childhood hero. Today it is not uncommon for Max Power to hear just as many boos as he does cheers in arenas across the country, arenas that are not nearly as full as they were years before.

Wrestling Style: POWERhouse.

Finishing Move/s:
Powerbomb (originated by Max Power, named after him)
Big Splash off the top rope

Common Moves:
Running Powerslam (signature move, often used as a set-up)
Powerplex (T-bone suplex)
Torture Rack
Backbreaker
Powerline (clothesline)
Diving shoulder tackle

Name: Jack Flanagan Jr.
Position: Owner and promoter of Global Pro Wrestling
Personality: It is said that a face-to-face meeting with Jack Flanagan is an overwhelming experience. As the man in charge of GPW, Flanagan projects an aura of strength and confidence, and can be a rather intimidating presence. Internally however, Jack doubts his own capabilities as a leader, a businessman, and a creative visionary in the evolving world of professional wrestling. Behind closed doors he obsesses over his critics in the wrestling media, and wonders if the business has truly passed him by. Despise what his critics may think, Jack cares about every single wrestler on his roster, to the point where he considers all of them to be family, but because of his powerful position he will tragically never know if these feelings are genuinely reciprocated.
Biography: Global Pro Wrestling, GPW, was originally owned by Jack's father, who first brough Jack into the family business as an on-screen talent. In the early years, Jack played the role of a heel manager, serving as the mouthpiece for an impressive young wrestler named Max Power, with whom he soon became good friends. Following the death of his father, Jack inherited the company, and quickly transformed Max Power into a mega babyface by having him turn again Jack's own on-screen character. As a superheroic, larger-than-life figure, Max Power brought GPW, and the wrestling business as a whole, to a staggering level of success that neither Jack nor his father ever thought possible. Together, Max and Jack grew the company into a worldwide brand, with lucrative merchandising deals and unprecendented pay-per-view revenue, developing a close personal bond in the process. However, after a decade of dominance, fans have now started to grow tired of Max Power's traiditonal babyface routine. Business in in decline as a result, and Jack struggles to keep GPW relevant in the changing pop culture landscape of the 1990s. As the owner of GPW, Jack does indeed have an obligation to do what is best for the company and for his family's legacy, but that may now come at the expense of his best friend, the only real friend he has ever had in the wrestling business.

Name: Johnny Hollywood
Position: Creative Advisor to Jack Flanagan
Personality: A hotshot writer from LA, with an obnoxious and flamboyant demeanour. Generally insufferable. Considers himself a creative genius on the level of Prince. Says that will revolutionize the wrestling industry and bring it up to date for "sophisticated modern audiences." Genuinely loves wrestling and wants to improve the business, but is frequently misunderstood and misrepresented.
Biography: After shopping around several abysmal scripts, John Woods eventually landed a job as a television writer for a sitcom called In Between Boyfriends, a humorous look at the struggles of a recently single woman in Los Angeles. The show was cancelled after it's first season. Searching for a new job, and having been a long time fan of pro wrestling, John arranged for a meeting with Jack Flanagan. In desperate need of an outsider's perspective, and impressesed with some of John's unique ideas, Flanagan hired him as a creative advisor, giving him the nickname "Johnny Hollywood." John liked the name so much he immediately had it printed onto t-shirts that he tries to push at the gimmick table before live events.

Name: Big Bob Roberts
Position: GPW Head of Talent Relations
Personality: A holdover from a bygone era in which pro wrestling was viewed as entirely legitimate. A complete contrast to Johnny Hollywood in terms of personality and wrestling philosophy. Often begins sentences with "Back in my fucking day..."
Would never, ever, be described as a "people person" and yet now works in talent relations. Old school. Hard ass. Possibly unstable.
Biography: Back in his fucking day, Big Bob Roberts was the toughest son of a bitch in this godforesaken business. A friend of Jack's father who started working for GPW in it's earliest years, Bob maintains his position in the company today partly due to Jack's respect for his father, and partly due to rumors that Bob was once a master practitioner of the "fish hook," a technique used to pry a man's eyeball out of it's socket. "Allegedly" performed the fish hook to a fan in Oklahoma who called the wrestling business fake.

1996, a pivotal year in the history of professional wrestling.

Global Pro Wrestling, the number one wrestling organization in the world, is a shell of its former shelf. Jack Flanagan, owner and promoter of GPW, is believed to be out of touch with modern audiences, and GPW struggles to remain relevant within contemporary popular culture. This struggle is perhaps best personified by the GPW World Heavyweight Champion, Max Power. Once a beloved hero to millions, and the star on which the entire company was built, Max Power is now seen by many as a stale and outdated relic from the 1980s, unable to adapt to the changing times.

However, on the horizon there stands a new generation of stars, ready and willing to lead Global Pro Wretling into a new era. For these young wrestlers, tumultuous times have led to opportunity, and all signs point to 1996 as the year in which opportunity will be seized. The only question remains: who will be the one to seize it?

THE RULES

This is an RP based on the cutthroat world of professional wrestling. Each player will take on the role of a different wrestler in GPW and roleplay their life both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Players will naturally form alliances, backstab one another, and attempt to politically maneuver their way towards the coveted top spot in the company. I will roleplay as the promoter, Jack Flanagan, as well as some of the other wrestlers within the company. As the promoter, I will ultimately be in charge of who wins and who loses matches, who will receive pushes and who will not. Remember though, this RP is not just about "being the best." It's about having a well-developed character. Even if you're playing one of the lower tier wrestlers, you can still have a compelling character and a compelling story to tell behind the scenes.

I want this RP to be as dramatic and as realistic as possible. The wrestling industry, despite the glitz and glamour presented on television, can be a pretty dark place. Life on the road is tough, and countless wrestlers have fallen prey to the many demons of the business. Always remember that in the world of wrestling there are only two things that are truly real: the money, and the miles...

CHARACTER SHEET

Insert a photo of your wrestler at the top of the character sheet. Since this is a realistic RP, please try to use real pictures rather than animated or hand drawn images.

Name:
Hometown:
Height:
Weight:
Entrance Music:

Alignment: Babyface or Heel.
Gimmick: This is your character's on-screen persona.
Personality: This is what your character is like behind-the-scenes, or in "real" life.
Biography: A short description of your character's hsitory, how they first broke into the business, how they landed a spot in GPW.

Wrestling Style: Are you a powerhouse? A brawler? A high flier?
Finishing Move: You can have one or two. Try to differentiate from the other characters.
Common Moves: List up to ten of your most commonly used moves. Make sure the moves make sense given the size and style of your character. A 7 foot tall giant isn't going to be doing a flying headscissors takedown.

Post your character sheet in the OOC section first, then once it is approved you can move it to the Characters section.
Glad to see the interest, I'll try to get the official RP thread up tonight so people can start working on character sheets.
So in front of the camera we're all "I'm gonna smash Timbo Jenkins on Saturday, take his Junior Heavyweight Championship and break his face with it!" but behind the scenes we're all struggling with backstage politics and alcoholism?

That is probably the best possible way to describe this RP.
@ZeusTheMoose
So grounded in realty. Thank God. I am still in. I was scared that it would be " MUMMY WRESTLING THE DEVIL ON THE SUN!"

Think of this as like an HBO drama about the wrestling business, with all the highs and the lows of life on the road and life backstage.
I might also be interested, but you have to remember that the clones were "engineered to follow orders without question" so for these clones to defy the Empire they would have to be defective and capable of following their own free will. This has been explored in The Clone Wars TV show and it's a pretty interesting concept. Instead of an entire clone fleet it would probably make more sense to focus on one defective clone squadron.
@ZeusTheMoose
How crazy are we talking for this rp?
Cause I'm very interested. Sadly wrestling rps have a low chance of survival. I'm still interested.

I'm not sure what you mean by crazy, but the RP will aim to be highly realistic.
It will take place in 1996, a period of upheaval, change, and opportunity in the wrestling business. The player characters will have the chance to take advantage of this upheaval and step up to become the leading stars of a new era in wrestling.
Who is champ?

JOHN CENA.

In all seriousness, we're going to worry about getting some players together before we decide a champion. It'll probably end up being an NPC with the belt at first.
