One Piece-inspired RP

Awesome! I've already got a bunch of ideas brewing, and I'm also adapting some of them into a new webnovel/webcomic I've started working on called Pineapple Jojo and the Pirates of Mythwater. The titular Pineapple Jojo gets bitten by a seemingly-rabid, dying Dracozian, a humanoid dragon-like being. The Dracozians have never been seen outside of the Mythwater Expanse, an enormous ocean brimming with magical and supernatural phenomena, and everyone is shocked to see one in the mostly-tame Kabbaroan Sea. To make matters worse, they realize Jojo received a fatal dose of Dracozian Venom, which will slowly kill him over many weeks if he doesn't get a cure. The town doctor tries to create anti-venom from the dead Dracozian who bit Jojo, but that one is rapidly decomposing, as if my magical means. With no other choice, they assemble a crew and sail for the Mythwater Expanse to find a live Dracozian to create the anti-venom. To complicate things further, Jojo begins developing powers from the venom, which the doctor - who has come along on the voyage - worries may hasten his demise.

Some of that could also work for this RP XD.

So I finally started getting into One Piece (both the anime and the live-action show), and am thinking about doing an over-the-top RP with the same vibe and theme about a group of pirates who fight in epic battles, search for treasure, and chase their dreams. If anyone is unfamiliar with the source material, here are two videos that are great mash-ups showing footage from the live action show set to the Pirate Rap opening from the 4Kids dub and the English version of "We Are" from the Funimation dub.

I love the concept, and I love when unique things are done with the Pokémon lore. I just feel like the absence of actual Pokémon is a little weird.

Yeah, that makes sense. So, maybe what we could do is have each Battlemage have a single Pokémon as their familiar (maybe we each have one of Eevee's evolutions), and whatever Aura that Pokémon has, that's the one the battlemage is attuned to first. Then maybe the Gym Leaders and Mentors we meet along the way help us channel other Auras besides our primary one.

I was thinking we could have some as illusioms/artificial creatures that are created by League officials to serve as Boss Monsters, but if you're wanting to have Pokémon as pets or something, I'm fine with that. But my idea is that our characters don't force animals to fight each other, they fight as themselves. They are battlemages, magic-users specializing in combat.
