Alright well we've got a handful of people here so I'll get to work on some sort of OOC later today. It's around 1:30 AM here and I'm pretty tired.
@DeadBeatWalking@Gaebrael Great to have you guys on board!

I might get up a character sheet tonight. I'll also probably start looking at statistics for the SSRs and seeing what commodities they mainly produced, cultures, etc so we can have a bit more 'depth'. I also highly recommend everyone research on their own as well. Nothing too extensive though, just start thinking about what regions you want your seat to hail from, your ambitions/goals, etc.
Since I just crawled out of the NRP coffin I usually stay in I guess it's befitting that I find interest in this.

So count me in, my dudes.
I'm interested. Expect me to be doing a lot of research to prepare myself to play this properly.

I can make 1-2 IC posts per week pretty easily, though more than that could get hard. I'll remain active in the OOC much more than that.

Fantastic! Welcome to the Politburo, Comrade!

Solution: Find a bunch of weebs and ascend to godhood in your own little cult.

Problem: I've stared into the void for too long and now it has stared back! I feel I have lost my mind.

Yeah, this is something I want to see. The closest I've seen on these forums and others is GoT style "We're from the same nation but EGADS! IT IS SHATTERING! FOOD FIGHT!" And while I can see the appeal, I think there's so much potential to be had in technically having everyone working together... in theory.

Political power plays on a backdrop of everyone working for the same cause and everyone have their own private motives = a good RP concept in general.

Not much more for me to say than that.

Oh hey look because you said something nice about my idea I pitched it.

This idea is now like my Sonic OCs pls no steal.

CЯISIS IИ THЗ КЯЭMLIЙ!

Comrade! Congratulations for your electoral success and welcome to the Politburo! Being on the Political Bureau is no easy task however. For you see Comrade, our glorious Soviet Union has entered dire times. General Secretary Gorbachev's policies of Glastnost and Perestroika have tore the entire system asunder and rumors of a 'collapse' fill the smokey air of Red Army High Command and the Central Committee. As per your new position, your duty shall be to serve the Union and her people! Show the entire Politburo that your home SSR is the finest in wealth, prestige, culture, and power! Perhaps you are the type who's hands are not so clean? Perhaps you'd be willing to work with your fellow Politburo members and take the General Secretariat's seat right from under old Gorby? Or perhaps you are a noble and just politician, if there ever was one. Regardless of what you wish to do with your new position, just know Comrade. There is a Crisis in the Kremlin!

Welcome to Crisis in the Kremlin! Based upon the 1991 PC strategy game of the same name, you shall be taking the role as a member of the highest political organ of the Soviet Union. Your place in the Politburo is entirely yours to make, where you hail from and how noble or corrupt you are is entirely up to you! However, there shall always be a crisis! In these turbulent final(?) years of the USSR the actions and policies you and your fellow Politburo members take are crucial in saving both your seats, but also your nation. The RP will largely be played from the background, with PMs and discussion being encouraged! In addition to whatever player created events take place, there will be consistent GM events involving events outside the USSR, often causing 'crisis' and furthering the plot of our little political thriller.

I am not a rule-heavy GM, in fact I find having too many rules is worse than too few in many cases. However, there will be a few basic ones.

If we get enough interest, preferably around 4-6 people, I'll start working up some applications and posting a IC with all sorts of neat images of the USSR stolen from Google. So get checking!

Mac DeMarco has become my new binge musician. I easily listen to at least one of his albums every day and I am beyond excited to see him live in June for my birthday.
Crisis in the Kremlin

Essentially this RP is a strange mix between an NRP and an Advanced One. 'Players' take the role of a member of the Soviet Politburo during the final years of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc. As these characters they create, they can take sides in GM-created political events, crises, and form factions within the Politburo. All the while being as corrupt or honorable as they'd like. If a character so wishes, his character could easily support/introduce policies to the Politburo that inevitably lead to the collapse of the USSR. Or they can privately endorse hardliners within the military to shut down the liberalization programs and restore the policies of the Stalin-era.

This format of RP could be used in multiple different ways though. A RP could also be down in the United States with players forming their own political parties, campaigns, etc and playing the game of politics via American exceptionalism. Or this could be on an even larger scale with a EU-style format in which players are using the system to better their nation while harming others.

I've seen this sort of RP done multiple times over on the Paradox Forums and I feel like if given proper GMing and maybe even some form of 'stats' it could actually work out as a neat tabletop-lite sort of RP.
Since I pretty much solely do NRPs when it comes to forum-based RP I can only give my perspective on NRPs on the Guild. Also note that most of my annoyances can be brought down to the 'your opinion, man' tier when it comes to irks.

  • When it comes to NRPs, Space is literally the most overdone and overrated things on the entire board. Everyone and their dog now has some 'sooper kewl' Space confederation that they wrote around 25k words for when it's just literally a race ripped from the Star Trek Wiki. Plus I never have been a fan of Sci-Fi regardless since I feel it's a incredibly uncreative and simply boring backdrop for a story/RP/whatever.
  • In the rare, once in a blue moon opportunity the NRP section actually gets a RP taking place on the planet Earth at some point in human history, it's never an era that someone can very easily invest themselves in. For instance, in my opinion it's incredibly easy to immerse one's self in a Victorian or Industrial era Historical N/RP since we have actual photos of the time, extensively available information on how life worked and how society functioned. Yet we never see those RPs in the NRP section. Instead some random guy who made an account yesterday posts in the Interest Checks for a Historical NRP taking place in the paleolithic era where your entire society is around 20 naked Paleoindians who speak in a language only known as 'guttural shouting'.
  • This works for all RPs but any GM that has the utter nerve to say 'WRITING IN THIS STYLE ISN'T ALLOWED BECAUSE WORLD BUILDING.' Not only is that the most fascistic thing a person can say but it's also utterly nonsensical. If I'm interested in your RP I'll write my characters/nation/whatever however I damn well please. If I want to write like it's a high-school text book I will. If I want to write like John Green a mediocre teenie-bop author I will. Just because the GM has some specific idea on what 'world/character building' means doesn't mean everyone else has the same opinion or idea. If you want to dictate your RP to the point where using a certain style is banned then maybe you should re-think your RP.
