Monster Hunter - Terrasuzaku

Elder Dragons, Rare Species & Elder Dragon-Level Monsters

Elder Dragons are mysterious, powerful monsters that are outside of the known tree of life. They are incredibly rare, though because of the Elder Crossing, we see them in Terrasuzaku every decade or so. Each Elder Dragon is considered a walking natural disaster, and is able to affect the ecosystems around them.

Some monsters are both incredibly rare and powerful enough to combat Elder Dragons to a standstill. The Hunter's Guild refers to these creatures as Elder Dragon-Level monsters, and like Elder Dragons, only the most skilled Hunters are allowed to hunt them.

Small Monsters

Altaroth

These Neopterans are found in a wide variety of habitats. They store food in a sac on their abdomen, which they carry back to their nest. Materials like honey, mushrooms, seeds, and fruit can be collected from their bodies when killed. While not dangerous to most Hunters, they can still inflict Defense Down and Paralysis.

_{Like other Neopterans, Altaroth are incredibly fragile in comparison to other monsters. If a Hunter requires body parts of an Altaroth, the best method to deal with them is utilizing Poison in order to kill them.}

Shiori the Biologist

Anteka

Herbivores that live in cold environments. They are normally docile monsters, but will attack if they feel threatened. Their pelts are highly sought after by those who live in colder regions, and their antlers have many uses in crafting and medicine.

_{According to the elders, the Anteka in Terrasuzaku have a symbiotic relationship with Banbaro that has never been seen elsewhere. However, like the Anteka of elsewhere, they are incredibly tough creatures. If you need to harvest antlers from them, there is no need to slay them; the recommended method is to knock them out or put them to sleep, and then break or saw them off.}

On the Subject of the Monsters of Terrasuzaku​

I was born and raised in Katei Village, as were my parents. According to the oldest residents of the village, the monsters of this region have distinct differences from their kin in the Old World. These adaptations have arisen due to Terrasuzaku being isolated from the rest of the world, and the unique environments putting different evolutionary pressures on the monsters of the region. These changes include different behaviors and abilities, as well as morphological differences that distinguish them from the monsters that my grandfather and other older Hunters would have fought. While cataloguing the species of monsters and endemic life that live in Terrasuzaku, I will consult the elders to determine what adaptations are unique to monsters that live in this land.

Katei Village​

The hub of all Hunter activity on Terrsuzaku. Katei Village is located near the northern coast of Terrasuzaku The architecture of most of the buildings is heavily inspired by Yukumo Village and Kamura Village. The village's main square is home to shops offering all kinds of goods and services, from food to blacksmithing. In the springtime, the residents of Katei all gather here to watch the Great Cherry Tree when it blooms. On the northern side of the village, near the Guild Hall, is a small grove of peach trees surrounding a hot spring known as the Momo Spring. It has long been said that the waters of Momo Spring are able to cure or treat illness, and spending an evening in the hot spring is something many people of Katei enjoy.

Prominent Residents of Katei Village​

Serizawa: A Wyverian woman who is the current leader of Katei. She is warm and friendly, and most of the people born in Katei consider her an honorary auntie. When not working, she can often be found teaching the children of Katei the history of the village, as well as telling stories about her past adventures as a Hunter.
Weyland: An eccentric Troverian man who works as Katei's blacksmith. He is loud and boisterous, and is unmatched when it comes to forging weapons and armor for Hunters. He can often be found at the Jade Rathalos Tavern on his days off, drinking mead and ale, singing songs, and regaling listeners with tales of his life as a sailor... however, it's sometimes hard to tell what's true and what's him spinning a tall tale.
Nekotei: A Grimalkyne that has given up life in the wild and become a trader in Katei. Nekotei sells goods to anyone who needs them, but is known to make special deals with Hunters. He is madly in love with Kagunya, and does everything he can think of to win her affection.
Kagunya: A Felyne who runs the Momo Spring. She is a quiet, humble person, but takes great pride in her pure white fur. She is kind to everyone in the village, but Nekotei's constant attempts to make her fall in love with him can cause her to get annoyed; indeed, on more than one occasion, she's hurled Nekotei out of Momo Springs so hard and far that he's landed outside the walls of Katei.
Tetsuo: A retired human Hunter who acts as the Katei Guild Master. As much as he would love to be out in the field, he acknowledges that his duty as Guild Master is more important, and must be done for the sake of the people of Katei.
Kotetsu: Guild Master Tetsuo's younger brother. While he wears many hats in his duties around the village, Kotetsu operates as the Arena Master, helping Hunters hone their skills. He dotes on his daughter whenever possible, much to her chagrin.
Torako: Arena Master Kotetsu's daughter. When she was younger, she was very much a daddy's girl, and would spend as much time with him as possible. That changed as she grew up, and she began seeking more independence. To fulfil this desire she became a Hunter, and acts as Serizawa's eyes and ears in the field.

Other Residents

Kuroko the Fishmonger: A Seafolk woman who sells fish in the market. She's a little bit of a ditz, but her heart is in the right place.​
Yukio the Fisherman: A Seafolk man who works as a fisherman. He's intimately familiar with the sea life around Katei. While somewhat aloof and distant, he shows a softer side to his wife Kuroko.​
Shiori the Biologist: An excitable, quirky young human woman with a passion for all kinds of life. Her skills understanding the plants and animals around Katei have been invaluable.​
Matsuri the Chef: A cheerful, motherly Felyne who owns and operates the canteen. Her dishes are loved by everybody in Katei, but she always wants to improve her cooking. If she sees a Hunter or their companions heading out without eating, she'll drag them to the canteen and insist on making something for them.​
Koko the Herbalist: Shiori's grandmother, and a master of concocting medicines made from plants and fungi. She's a sweet old lady, and often bakes treats for the children of the village as rewards for helping her with errands.​
Hina and Yua: A married couple who operate a farm, raising fruits and vegetables, as well as keeping Gargwa and Moofah. They are kind and humble, always willing to help out their neighbors whenever they need anything.​
Kanta: An elderly Wyverian man who lives outside of the village walls. He spends his days gathering mushrooms, herbs, and other materials out in the forest around Katei.​
Ichigo: The owner and operator of the Jade Rathalos Tavern, and Kanta's granddaughter. She speaks little, and has become something of the unofficial secret keeper of the people of Katei.​

Monster Hunter - Terrasuzaku

For centuries, legend has persisted of a place between the Old World and the New World known as Terrasuzaku, a place unexplored by the likes of the Hunters Guild or the Research Commission. Surrounded by an impenetrable storm, and home to a myriad of monsters, this place has faded into obscurity, now known only as a myth to the civilizations of the world.

However, Terrasuzaku is no myth.

Many years ago, a fleet of explorers and Hunters--composed mostly of residents of Yukumo and Kamura--were swept up in the storm, and were stranded on this land. In order to protect themselves, they built a village protected by a great wall of wood and stone. In time, the residents came to call their new home "Katei". In time, the village began to flourish, sustaining itself on crops raised by farmers and the bounty of the fields, forests, and waters of the area surrounding Katei.

Thirty years ago, a new group found itself shipwrecked on Terrasuzaku: a group of engineers and researchers who had been part of the Research Commission heading to the new world, members of the Second Fleet. To their surprise, they were welcomed with open arms by the people of Katei, and treated with the warmth and kindess of family. These researchers and engineers accelerated the advancement of Katei, bringing with them new techniques to survive in this new world.

As Katei grew and expanded, it needed more protection from the fierce creatures outside of its walls. A new generation of Hunters was trained and armed, and now work to protect their homes and loved ones...

P2e - Threshold of Knowledge

Alwin is quite pleased to see another dwarf, even if they aren't kin. He can feel the taught muscles beneath Erastil's skin ease up. Despite his recently found sense of defiance, the raptor is still keenly aware of his alpha's feelings and mental state. However, he is not keen on engaging in a race this early in the morning. Alwin raises his hand in greeting to Haibram. "Top of the morning, stone-brother," he says, using a term in his clan for other dwarves. "A race you say? I think I'll--"

He is cut off by a chittering sound from Erastil. Being a smart creature, the raptor knows different words in common and dwarven, and the word "race" is one of them. The ground hawk has learned that if he participates in a race, and comes out on top, Erastil will receive something. He knows if he wins, he might get food. Or some praise, at the very least.

Alwin gives a quiet sigh. "It seems my mind has been made up for me," he says, giving in. "Erastil! Fnasa!" He gives a command to the raptor in an old dialect of dwarven, pointing to one of the footprints Haibram left behind.

Alwin had always found being outside during the daytime somewhat unnerving. There was no roof, nothing to stop himself from being snatched up and carried off or just floating off into the sky. He knows both fears are irrational (well, being snatched up by a large, flying predator outside of the Under-Earth was unlikely, but not impossible), but they still tug at the back of his brain, the same way a child my pull on their father's beard to get his attention. Alwin's fingers unconsciously stroked the creature beside him. The groundhawk Erastil was relatively young. Perhaps the dinosaurian equivalent of a teenager. It had been showing recently too: the feathered beast had been acting up lately, ignoring commands or outright challenging Alwin's status as alpha. It sometimes had taken a quick tussle to put the young raptor in his place.

He listens to the old man speak. Community is something the dwarf understands well. Kin and clan are very important in dwarven society, and even if Alwin was an odd duck in his community, he cherishes it with all his heart. He examines the bracelet handed to him, curious. The craftsmanship was good, if different from the beads of bone and metal he was used to. Alwin nods, hearing the instructions, and puts the bracelet in his pocket.

Once Ot dismisses them, Alwin eyes the small group that had been gathered. Quite the motley crew, he thinks to himself.
