A snow and ice storm that shuts down most of the city... in April. Never change Canada.
Alright then, I do think I've made you all wait far too long, so my post shall be coming up by the end of today. Provided that I can figure out this buggering IC formatting that is... Looks beautiful but by god it doesn't like me.
So just so I'm getting this correctly, reaching the castle is the victory condition and arriving will effectively take our character off the map because they've evacuated Garelton? In that case I guess I'd need to get my horse first, maybe I could drop in on the aftermath of @Yankee's battle and get some form of exp before bailing out.
Well I suppose I should step in and introduce myself now that I've been formally accepted. Hello everybody! Just a friendly neighborhood squire joining the squad.
"Who you were isn't what I want to know, who you are now is much more interesting"
Name: Kyran Cynmaer
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Personality:
At first glance one would likely doubt that someone like Kyran was actually a highborn of the Kingdom of Reynes, seeing as his disdain for formality and somewhat blunt nature shatter any image of poise the young man might otherwise exude. A free spirit through and through he is an incredibly curious soul with a nigh-insatiable case of wanderlust. The sort to go wherever and do whatever his whims decide in the heat of the moment, though his untamed nature is tempered by a good deal of wisdom, more than one would think the boy to be possessed of. Behind the blunt, freewheeling exterior however is a genuinely kind person who cares greatly for the problems and concerns of those around him, willing to listen and lend his aid to any who ask for it. He tends to not judge people based simply on their words and positions, but rather their deeds and how they act themselves are the factors that truly impact Kyran's opinions of a person more than anything else. One of few forms of order that the young noble does seem to subscribe to is that of the ideals of justice and morality, his moral compass is very strongly embedded into how he treats others. Kyran is highly competitive and will scarcely turn down a challenge when offered, though this ambition to better himself can make him seem somewhat arrogant or cocky to others. In truth though he simply is always looking for chances to prove himself as his confidence is... somewhat lacking. Once Kyran focuses upon a goal he bacomes nearly unstoppable in terms of his persistence, willing to suffer failures countless in order to achieve his goals.
Backstory:
Kyran was born in the city of Brittany as the third of three sons to the noble house of Cynmaer, a neither particularly high nor low ranking noble family in the Kingdom of Reynes with their major influence lying in the commercial branches of the city. Growing up Kyran spent most of his time locked away inside and being practically dragged through lessons alongside his elder brothers regarding a variey of subjects like the basics of ettiquette, politics and business as his parents attempted to groom one of their sons to become an heir to the family name. They would have no such luck with Kyran, for his real interests laid in the more physical arts like swordplay, the creation of arms and armor, and military strategy.
Gradually, he began to spend more time among the commoners of Brittany than his own family. There was a certain allure he found that laid in how the common folk lived. Having things to call your own was much more satisfying when you had actually worked for it yourself and your reward was borne of your own toiling, as opposed to having everything you'd ever wanted handed to you. The young lordling began to become a known face to many of the artisans and tradespeople of the city, routinely asking them to show him the basics of their arts. Some of them even accepted, hoping to curry favor with the Cynmaer family by teaching the child. Unfortunately, Kyran made for a sub optimal student at best and an outright failure at worst when it came to trade-based work.
He hated the fact that he was failing all these people, yet still he wanted to do something real rather than consign himself to coasting throughout life simply because he was highborn. So Kyran resolved that he'd join the ranks of the Knights of Reynes once he came of age. It would be no easy feat, something that he'd need to constantly train to do, but he was determined. He began practicing with a sword every chance he got, and though he ended many days exhausted, Kyran knew that he'd see the payoff in due time. Soon enough the day came, and where once there was a useless lordling who couldn't do anything for himself, there instead now stood a squire of the Knights of Reynes. Eventually he learned to ride a war-trained horse, and formed quite the bond with the one given to him, a beauty of a mare he named Lei. The next few years were a bit of a blur, between simple guard duty to cleaning out bandit encampments with the other knights, Kyran served and for once felt a sense of accomplishment from what work he was doing. It wasn't long before he ended up in the small castle town of Garleton as part of a defensive retinue sent to the Empire, it was there that the banner and cause of a certain imperial prince caught the young squire's eye....

Decisive Strike - A strike that deals more damage the weaker the enemy.
Wrath Strike - A powerful strike at decreased accuracy.
Alone, a young lupine Faunus paced through his home, or rather the husk of it that now remained in its place. For all that once made this building into the home he knew for years had been stripped away, every article and belonging within was swiftly packed into boxes and bags now laying on the doorstep. Every footstep the boy took seemed to resonate with the hollow corridors and chambers, softly echoing within the now barren household. Though he knew that eventually he would leave this place, the boy found it difficult to not reminisce and reflect upon his time in this place, for soon it would be over.
All beginnings eventually lead to an end...
Slowly, the young wolf strode through each and every room letting many a memory wash over him as he continued his nostalgic reflection. He couldn't help but find himself drawn to the once-plentiful bookshelves, now rendered vacant. The Faunus felt a subtle smile overtake him as his thoughts drifted to the image of his mother, He remembered the scene as if it were mere days ago. Morning light shining through the large window as she read to a pair of spellbound young boys hanging on her every word, as the Faunus woman wove a tale of legendary heroes and the great evils they sought to keep at bay. In truth, the young Faunus owed her greatly, for it was thanks to those very same stories and legends that he was set on this path to begin with. He'd made sure to pack a couple of his favourites along with some entirely new stories into his luggage, as both a passtime and memento of his motivations' origins. With one last glance to the abandoned bookshelves, he walked out of the room and made his way further into the now desolate building.
It was not long before he came to the final stop on his nostalgic journey, the bedroom he once called his. The Faunus pushed open the simple wooden door standing in his way, finding his bags left in the center of the room, along with a mostly stripped down bed and a long deep blue coloured coat laying across it. Almost thoughtlessly he donned the article, it was both a gift and yet another memento of his time here, leaving it behind was simply out of the question. Slowly he gathered the myriad of bags strewn across the rooms floor, slinging one over each shoulder and grabbing the third in his hand. As he turned to the exit and began walking back towards the front door of his former home, the Faunus couldn't help but find himself struck by the gravity of his actions. Part of him would miss this place, even with all the unpleasant events that had occurred not very long ago. Yet still he was excited, for today was the day he would take the next step on his journey to become a huntsman. Before he knew it, he had came to the threshold of the house. It was time to leave this place behind, and step into his future.
Taking a deep breath, Kaldyr confidently walked out of the house.
...Yet for every ending, a new beginning awaits.
Within what felt like mere moments he had arrived at the airship's dock, one swift exchange of goodbyes between Kaldyr and his family later and suddenly he was alone once more. The ship itself was beautiful, yet incredibly daunting due to its sheer size. It was easy enough to drop off his bags and get aboard, before being showed to the horribly cramped closet they called a room. Kaldyr wasn't exactly ecstatic about having to spend the travel's duration in what he mentally pictured as a re-purposed prison cell, though there was little he could do about it. Instead of groaning about his circumstances, he took the chance to look over his weapon. He was about to arrive at Beacon Academy of all places, and a poorly-maintained blade made quite the statement about one's character. Luckily for him, Kvöld and Dögun were both razor sharp and raring to go.
Eventually and somewhat abruptly, a slightly grating voice proclaimed his freedom over the loudspeaker. With no better option, Kaldyr reluctantly grabbed his weapons, placed them on his back and made his way towards wherever the crowd was moving. Perhaps he was imagining it, but he swore that he watched a couple of students shoot disdainful looks at him. He couldn't be sure of it, but it wouldn't surprise him if even here people still disliked what he was. I guess some things just don't change... The wolf Faunus thought to himself as he continued towards the observation deck.
A couple of relatively short moments later and Kaldyr had found his way to the viewing chamber, along with a small gathering of others. The first thing he noticed was the absolutely stunning view of the academy. It was massive, far larger than he'd ever imagined it to be. The ebony and ivory coloured castle stood proud against a background of emerald treetops and the brilliant cerulean sky, the towers and spires reaching high up as if they were trying to reach heaven itself. A slight smirk crept its way on to Kaldyr's face, the view was majestic and thankfully he wasn't the only one stopping to admire it.
Averting his gaze from the marvel that was Beacon for a moment, he took note of some of the others standing around. Among the crowd a few students in particular stood out to him. One was a bright purple haired boy who seemed to be stretching with eyes affixed on Beacon. Based on the tan I'd guess Vacuo...weapon looks like a shortsword of some kind.... The next one to catch his eye would be a short, grey haired girl wearing mostly browns. Is that briefcase a weapon? Very interesting... Following that he spotted a relatively tall blonde girl, also entranced by the view. Is she wearing Dust?! Last to catch his eye was a feline Faunus, in fact the only other Faunus he'd seen so far on this ship. Probably comes from money with an outfit like that, still good to see another Faunus here...
With the room scoped out Kaldyr's gaze inevitably returned to the shining Beacon upon the horizon. This was it, this is where his journey would continue. The tides of emotion welling within, he was nervous yet proud, apprehensive yet excited. But above all else, Kaldyr was ready.
Physique : Kaldyr stands at a relatively average height of 5'9(177cm) and weighs roughly 165 lbs(74kg). His complexion is relatively pale, and he possesses quite a lean build overall.
Race :Faunus (Wolf)
Team : CKAI
Personality : Kaldyr initially comes off as a stoic person, rarely showing a great deal of emotion at first when in truth he really does care about other people. He'd rather be with a few close friends than in a crowd of acquaintances, as socializing is certainly not his strong suit. He is quite the introvert and tends to be quite reserved around those he doesn't know very well. Kaldyr is also very analytical of everything, unfortunately this also makes him a touch judgmental of people. He is slow to trust others, but once you've earned it, Kaldyr becomes a loyal friend who will do anything for those he cares about. If he was told some secret by a friend it would stay a secret forevermore, as loyalty and trust are huge with him. If someone has a problem, Kaldyr would be the first one in to help. He's the kind of guy to put others before himself and the first to take on danger if it means others don't have to, unfortunately for him this usually ends in him biting off more than he can chew. Finally, Kaldyr is very to the point about matters that concern people he cares for, sometimes to the point of making irrational seeming decisions.
Likes : Thanks to a combination of his his mother's efforts and his own introverted nature, Kaldyr has had a love of reading and books instilled in him. Whenever he's not training or studying you can expect to find him reading some form of novel while others chat. He also greatly enjoys the season of Winter. Something about the lower temperatures and the quiet serenity of the world under a blanket of snow is very appealing to him. Kaldyr's more miscellaneous likes include strategy games, spicy foods, and good old fashioned competition.
Dislikes : One of the quickest ways to get on Kaldyr's bad side is by being either egotistical, a liar or both. Those who like to abuse their power will also find themselves on the other end of his ire, whether they be students bullying others or otherwise. It should go without saying that Kaldyr will respond pretty negatively to anti-Faunus sentiments and he tends to think a great deal less of the people who spout them. Some minor dislikes of his include bland foods, the season of Summer(He burns easily), and being rushed.
Fears : Greatest of all Kaldyr's fears is his fear of being helpless. Befittingly enough of his slow-trusting nature Kaldyr also fears betrayal, the idea that a friend could suddenly turn upon him deeply disturbs the young huntsman in training. Though he has begun to master his fear of bears since the attack encountering a particularly strong Ursa may cause the usually stoic faced Faunus a great deal of distress.
Motivation : Kaldyr is driven to become a huntsman mostly by his twin desires to protect those who can't protect themselves, as well as following in the same path of his father. Another part of him wishes to beat back the savage evils of the Grimm so that Man and Faunus alike can continue to flourish. Yet a third and somewhat childish part of him wants a cause, something to belong to and believe in, and what better cause is there than serving as the heroes who stand against darkness?
Brief Bio : Kaldyr was born the eldest son of three to a Faunus couple living in Menagerie. His father was a huntsman who'd graduated from Haven Academy and built himself a reputation there (not the good kind), and his mother was an author. Soon enough, his father's line of work required that he move back to Mistral. Kaldyr and his younger brother were absolutely enamoured with the idea of huntsmen and huntresses, so much so that they begged their father to let them go with him. A few weeks worth of bargaining and pleading later and the family was on the next boat out of Menagerie.
Upon their arrival in Mistral one of the first things he noticed was the general disdain that most people he met seemed to hold for him because he was a Faunus. As such he became much more reserved and introverted throughout his time there. A few more years passed and everything was going well, Kaldyr had just finished his first year at Sanctum, and his family was happy.
Then the attack happened. Bandits swarmed the village, and started taking everything that wasn't nailed down. Unfortunately for them however, they took too long. The Grimm showed up, and the bloodbath began. Amidst the chaos, Kaldyr's father and his team picked off the Grimm one by one as they were focused on the looters. The last Grimm however, an Ursa near death, got a lucky strike in and crippled the cocky huntsman. Panicking, Kaldyr grabbed the shield on his back and broke into a mad dash over to his father as the Ursa inched ever closer to it's incapacitated prey. The shadowy beast raised it's claws and let out a triumphant roar as the boy dashed to his wounded father's side. The Ursa brought it's claw down to finish its wounded foe- but it instead met with Kaldyr's shield. The beast recoiled and was confused long enough for the other huntsmen and huntresses to finish it. It was there, out of breath, and at his father's side that his will to become a huntsman became ironclad.
With his father crippled, his days of being a huntsman came to an end, but the family remained in Mistral long enough for Kaldyr to graduate from Sanctum. His family planned to move back to Menagerie, sure it was crowded and the ever enigmatic White Fang were more present there than anywhere else in Remnant, but it was also much safer than the other kingdoms. Kaldyr however, had a different destination in mind. Beacon Academy is where he would go and realize his dream to become a man that would protect those who could not not protect themselves.
Semblance :Framtíðarsýn or "Future Sight" Framtíðarsýn allows Kaldyr to focus on a single creature, and foresee what their next intented actions will be. Kaldyr perceives this as a sort of reverse after image, made of his dark blue aura. By integrating this ability into his fighting style, Kaldyr is capable of dishing out incredibly effective counter-attacks. For example, if Kaldyr were fighting a Deathstalker and used Framtíðarsýn against it, he'd be able to see what kind of action the Deathstalker would try to pull off next i.e (Left claw swipe, Right claw swipe, Stinger, retreat, charge). Framtíðarsýn also grows in strength the more experienced Kaldyr is at fighting his current target, becoming more accurate, showing a longer prediction, and being less draining to utilize. His semblance however potent, is certainly not without it's limits and flaws. While Framtíðarsýn is very effective against the creatures of Grimm, it is hampered against sentient targets like Humans and Faunus. The main reason for this being that a person can change their mind or intentions on a whim, while the Grimm have no such free will and usually follow through on their lethal instincts. His semblance can also be fooled, feint attacks will still trip him up 9 times out of 10, and attacks with delayed effects such as poison are undetectable to Kaldyr's semblance. As mentioned earlier Framtíðarsýn works much better against targets Kaldyr has fought before, meaning that in a encounter against an unfamiliar enemy, Framtíðarsýn is severely weakened, and it's predictions are much less accurate. Framtíðarsýn can also only be used in bursts lest he burn through all of his aura, and there is a delay before Kaldyr can switch his current target.
Weaponry :Kvöld and Dögun - Kaldyr's weapons of choice are a sword and shield pairing named Kvöld and Dögun.
Kvöld "Dusk" - Kvöld is a menacing yet elegant looking blade with a single sharp edge. Much like Dögun, a number of the weapon's parts are a deep blue, namely the hilt and a single strip of metal that runs down the length of the blade, whilst the rest of the sword is made of a dark, lightweight metal that allows for Dust to adhere to it. Hidden in the blunt side of Kvöld, is a number of small metal plates that can be deployed to cover Kvöld's edge and make the length of the weapon bulkier, blunt, and almost... rounded? This has a unique purpose aside from being a simple guard but first...
Dögun "Dawn" - Dögun is a large, thick, and heavy heater shield with bladed edges. Like Kvöld, some of the weapons parts are a deep blue, the bladed edges being one of the only parts that are not coloured in such a way. The shield's deadly edges are made of a similar dark metal to Kvöld, but they do not permit dust adherence. By pushing a button on one of the straps, Kaldyr can cause Dögun to begin spinning rapidly, deflecting melee attackers much easier and acting almost like a saw if he chooses to attack. This makes Kaldyr a very dangerous foe in close combat. Dögun also bears a slot in the top that serves as a dust reservoir, wide enough for Kvöld to fit into comfortably. By momentarily sheathing Kvöld within Dögun, Kaldyr can coat his sword in dust for a number of effects (i.e. flaming sword for fire dust, disabling strikes with lightning dust etc.). Dögun also has a couple of grooves that lead down the length of the shield that allow it to expand outwards. This too has a unique purpose.
If he chooses to, Kaldyr can combine both his weapons by sheathing Kvöld into Dögun and pulling a trigger on the blade's hilt, causing the sword's guard to deploy before elongating massively and sending the shield towards the weapon's new tip, the shield's grooves let it expand outwards to reveal the combination of both Kvöld and Dögun: a beast of a weapon known as Miðnætti Hylja.
Miðnætti Hylja "Midnight's Howl" - Miðnætti Hylja is a gigantic battleaxe, formed by combining Kvöld and Dögun, with Kvöld making up the weapon's handle and Dögun becoming the business end of the axe.The weapon retains it's parent weapon's black and blue colour schemes and is a sight to behold. The weapon is capable of devastating blows, but it is very heavy and thus cannot be used for long periods of time without risking self injury and fatigue. It is also worth noting that Miðnætti Hylja is incapable of using dust of any sort, it relies on it's raw strength and sheer size to dish out devastating strikes. The transformation to and from Miðnætti Hylja is not instant so Kaldyr only really uses it if he knows that he can get a good number of attacks on a target. If Miðnætti Hylja makes contact, it WILL hurt.
Other : -Being a Faunus, Kaldyr possesses enhanced senses of sight and hearing - He holds a neutral opinion on the White Fang
I second the idea of a flare gun for Russel. Oh dear, imagine a scenario in which he needs to fold but hasn't told anyone anything about his semblance. There's some twofold trauma potential there.
I must say that I am personally a fan of all the characters so far. Plus we seem to have covered our bases in terms of personality. From Cyan's sweet dorkiness to Cassius' apathetic distance, I think we're in for quite the adventure.
