Appearance:
Name: Connor Nordicke
Age: 23
Race: Human
Kingdom of Origin: Illyria
Bio: Connor was raised in a family of exceptional mages, learning and mastering his family’s magecraft at a very young age. Much of this was due to his father’s insistence, though Connor wanted nothing more than to be an exceptional mage just like his father. Ten years ago, his father, Theodore Nordicke, was selected as next to become an architect, something he had been preparing for all of his life. Little was known to Connor what it meant to be chosen for Ascension, and part of him knew that his father was just as in the dark as he was. That never stopped him, though, for it was his passion to be a great mage that he knew that he must accept such a duty.
Though his shining moment never came, it seemed. It was the night before his father was to attend his Ascension that a group of strange men broke into their home. It had all happened so suddenly for Connor; the men assaulting his father shouting of “conspiracy” and “false hope,” his father laying still on the floor as the men came for Connor and his mother, a bright flash of light as he clung to his mother from behind…
Connor awoke the next morning, not remembering anything after the flash of light. He could not remember his mothing becoming so badly injured, he couldn’t remember why he was surrounded by the bodies of the strange men, and he could not say why he was the only one unharmed…
Even after his father’s passing and his mother now in critical condition after the incident, Connor continued to improve his magic studies with very little guidance. Though it was very difficult for someone so young to become self-taught, he eventually mastered his family’s jewel magecraft; a specialty magic in which the mage uses magical convergence to story certain types of magics into gemstones which can then be utilized later with spells, amplifying the effects exponentially. This was a trick learned by the Nordicke family which would allow their mages to use more powerful spells more frequently with minimal strain or exhaustion from the spellscaster. It was this, as well as Connor’s mastery of a diverse range of magic types that he had been chosen for the Ascension.
Personality: Connor is a perceptive, serious, resourceful, and very competitive person. Though he was widely admired by his peers as a prim and proper honorable mage, it is a front he puts up in order to prevent others from prying into his life. In private, he is notably loud, shrewd, stingy, and bossy, but usually means well for those he cares about. He is known as a model student in his magic studies. His manner of speech is often hostile and dismissive of other people, but deep down he has a caring, big-brotherly disposition. His tendency of making trivial mistakes at the worst possible moment is a hereditary curse. Though he really is a lot nicer than he seems, he claims to always make his decisions based on cold, rational logic in the end. In his own words, it's "not a very becoming personality". Despite claiming that he would do anything in order to win a fight, no matter how underhanded, he has a deeply rooted sense of honor.
During his childhood, he vaguely understood the reason behind the attack on his household as well as the murder of his father, seemingly understanding while not actually comprehending it. He saw his father as a great mage who must be respected and loved, but failed to understand the negative aspect of his personality, the cold-heartedness that accompanied such an ideal. This sewed an inkling of doubt in the back of Connor’s mind, leading him to think for but a moment that maybe his father was not the kind and respected man he had always thought of him to be. This, however, never stopped Connor from reaching his goals and continuing his studies. For the sake of his deceased father and his family's name, Connor seeks to obtain the status his family has lost, though he has little personal desire for it.
He spends just as much time quarrelling with his companions as he does cooperating with them. He's a mischievous young man at heart, so he loves teasing serious people the most.
