Hey! This looks awesome!
Finally finished it, sorry taking so long!

Noo cause the way I have a crush on Dong Wook is unreal, haha.

Location: Appartment 4B. Sadie's and Ember's apartment.
Interactions: Sadie @Sailorsadie

What to even expect from a potluck? A pot of luck. Strange English word. Ember heard the satisfying click of the container she was closing, filled with the good stuff. She had been wrecking her brain for a couple of days trying to decide on what to bring, what even was appropriate. "Bring food." Christian had told her, while the two of them were at the gym last week. Ember had nodded in agreement, and an exciting feeling crept up her spine. She appreciated her next door neighbour and gym bud for inviting her. This would be her first event or party, or however, you would like to call a gathering like this, since living alone. Well, not alone, with Sadie.

Aside from that, her first Thanksgiving.

Ember looked down at her handiwork. In a now closed container was her homemade tompouchen. It couldn't get more Dutch than that. It was sweet yellow pastry cream wedged between two layers of puff pastry, the rectangle shape iconic as well. Usually sold with pink frosting on top, Ember had made it orange to represent her country. She smiled to herself and hoped people would like it. The dish was notoriously delicious, and a challenge to eat without having pastry cream all over your face.

Another container held cubed-up Gouda cheese. Actually from Gouda. Hard to come by, in America.

Her stomach growled loudly, Ember looked up at the clock. It was almost time. Christian had been cooking literally all day, and Ember and Sadie had the pleasure to live right next to him and his roommate. The apartment was filled with smells all day, and Ember had been trying to not eat too much, a hint she was given to prepare for Thanksgiving.

Now there was only one thing left to do. What to wear? What do people wear to Thanksgiving? A potluck? Ember had gone the embarrassing route to actually google that sentence, but it didn't bring her much luck, except for 'pants that your food baby can grow in'. And she wasn't sure if she had anything flattering like that. In any case, her fashion was different from people from here, but she also found some sort of hybrid between her Dutch fashion and LA fashion. Jeans were a staple, as were printed blouses. Usually sneakers. Casual with a bit of.. flair.

Ember left the containers as is for a moment as she trailed back to her bedroom. Her bedroom calmed her, it was the first room she was able to make totally hers again, nothing like Jack's apartment where she couldn't do shit, change anything or make it a home for herself. She barely got a drawer to put her things in. Here, in her room, she had a cosy queen-sized bed, fairy lights adorning the wall behind it. And old thrived dresser she painted mintgreen across from it. Behind it, Ember had painted a massive yellow sun. It made her happy, waking up to that. The drawers were a bit wonky, but it was spacious and Ember didn't have a buttload of clothes anyways. Not like her roommate, who seemed to not own a single pair of pants, but a massive assortment of skirts and heels.

Chuckling to herself, Ember opened a drawer. It was strange, living with her roommate. They were opposites in so many ways, but in a sense, Sadie did manage to pull out the parts in Ember that she had hidden or didn't know were there. The more outward parts, the exact parts Jack had destroyed by keeping her in his apartment. At first, Ember was terrified. Sadie was a force to be reckoned with, and Ember's very soul had been cracked by what she went through.

Still, Sadie healed her a little bit. And Christian too. One of Ember's goals to lose her fear of LA was to go to the gym, but in a way, it terrified her too much. She was fine going to the gym before, but after everything that happened... Then, when Christian had caught her awkwardly standing outside the gym looking in, she recognised him as her neighbour. He invited her in, and they had been regularly working out together ever since. Ember even went alone now too.

She took a deep breath of air before closing the drawer again. She had come a long way, since Jack, since the isolation, scared of everything out there. She could handle a fucking putlock. The young Dutch woman looked down at herself. But not in this outfit.

With a small groan, already feeling Sadie's reaction in her bones (Sadie had often offered a style up, Ember had always declined), Ember knocked on Sadie's bedroom door and opened it, leaning against the doorframe and locking eyes with her roommate. "Fine. I concede. Could you please help me pick an outfit for tonight?"

Harper peeked through the blinds of the kitchen window, watching Axel leave the house. Mixed feelings occupied her mind, having earlier told Axel that she'd stay inside, only would hop over to Holly to bring the food. And Holly was just two houses over, past the graves. Safe, right? But... the Gazebo was right across Holly. So technically..

Harper shook her head. She can try and justify it in her head but she still kind of lied to Axel, something she doesn't do. Still, she wasn't about to miss out on the meeting at the Gazebo. Not just because it would be important for their survival, but also because she missed people. She missed her friends, Holly, Lee, Kit, Jason, hell even Davey. The others, too. The young woman pursed her lips as she thought about them. It won't be normal, like before. Can't joke around like before, talking about where to go to college, talk about crushes, new music, all the good stuff.

Nope, she wouldn't let herself sink there. It wasn't like her, anyways. Seeing Axel's frame disappear from her view, she let the blinds slip from her fingers and turned around. The bag she had filled earlier, with food for Holly, was standing by the kitchen door. She looked down at her phone, reading the messages that had come in, and Holly's thank you message. She'd convey her thanks to Axel later. With a deep breath in, and then out, Harper took the bag for Holly. Next to it, was a backpack that held a bottle of water and a bag of chocolate chip cookies baked by Axel. While Harper was sad that the ingredients were going bad, and that it forced Axel to mass-bake everything, she wasn't about to say no to cookies. She'd share them with the group.

By the front door, she tugged on her boots, the leather protective of her ankles in the April breeze. After putting on her jacket, she opened the front door and stepped onto the porch. Almost like a criminal, she crouched and walked like that towards the porch fence, peering around for Axel, or any non-alive people. Her eyes landed on the house in front of hers again, where Kit and Harry lived. She'd berate Kit later about ignoring her.

When she couldn't see her brother on the street anymore, having turned into the clinic, Harper stood up. She raised her hands above her hair and tied her hair into a ponytail before walking down the steps and toward the street. She past the Graves house first, crossing the street there toward the Sparlings. her mind thinking of Jason. A smile played on her face, thinking about her classmate. Then, past the Holloways. Her friend Holly, god how she missed hanging out. With all of them, frankly.

Walking toward the Gazebo, she spotted two figures already there. She didn't recognise them as any of her friends, but as she came closer, she recognised them as Velero's tenants. They came by The Greenhouse sometimes. With a bit of effort, Harper was sure she'd still remember their regular orders. When coming closer, she noticed Jason was within the Gazebo too, along with his siblings Lika and Winnie.

With a relieved smile on her face, she stepped on the gazebo steps and looked at those present. "Hey." She said to them.

Taking her phone from her back pocket, she looked at the time. 1:55. People should be showing up by now.

@WolfLover ICON. MASTERPIECE. AWESOME. EVERYTHING.

Sometime later, Axel stared at several loaves of bread and a tray of pastries. He wasn't sure what to do with them yet, but he did know some of his ingredients were going to go off if he didn't use them, to make bread. At least now he could freeze the bread, or feed some of the other people on the street. Harper had been asking to bring some food to the Holloways again. A regular thing their father started doing after the passing of Jill Holloway. Paul came in and just handed dishes to Harper, ordering her to take them to Holly "just because". But the three of them knew how hard the passing of Jill was on the family. Axel cursed himself a little, he had been slightly slacking in this duty that he took over from his father.

The young cook made a mental note to ensure to make a dish for the family later in the day.

Ingredients were dwindling though. Axel knew he still had ingredients at his apartment above The Greenhouse, and in the freezer in the restaurant. Given that it hadn't been raided yet. He was hesitant though, the sound of this night was more in that direction. And he wouldn't be going there alone. Frankly, going outside today to Delenay, which was just across the street and three buildings over, already scared him. The things he'd seen... no. He shook away the image of the happenings at the market.

Axel washed his hands as his eyes wandered to the Apple Danish pastries on the tray, still cooling down. Someone's favourite. He'd have to take some of them with him if he was going to visit her today, no sense in putting that off any longer. He put two of them in a paper bag.

Harper knocked on the window again, but apparently, it was a little too far away for Kit to hear her. Defeated, she turned back and sat down at the window seat. She picked up her logbook again.

Sometime later, a familiar ding sounded from her desk. Her phone just went off. For the second time, Harper put down her notebook and walked back over to her desk. She had two messages, one of them already send earlier in the day. She opened the first one, a new group app called "Survival Squad", the name made her smile and she scrolled through the group's participants. The seniors, Carlo's tenants... Davey too. She read the text and closed the app for now. She had no way of confirming right now, she didn't know if Axel would let her out like that.

Harper switched to the other group she got messages in. A message in the senior's group app, those who live in Mulberry Road, the "gang". She chuckled a little to herself. The group was first just for her, Lee & Holly. But they added others to the mix eventually. Her chuckle dwindled from her face as soon as she wrote the messages in the group, though. It hit some kind of reality for her she didn't want. Call her naive, but she didn't want to think about the moment that food would run out.

Maybe this could be an excuse for her to leave at 2. Phone in hand, the sunny teenager walked down the stairs towards the kitchen, where Axel was putting Apple Danishes into a paper bag. She snorted to herself, she knew damn well who those were for, even if Axe thinks she knows nothing. "Hey masterchef, feeding orphanages like the saint you are?" Harper joked as she raised herself up to sit on the counter of the kitchen island. She looked at several loaves of bread and a tray of pastries. It felt kinda weird, making so much food that would go bad so fast, but Harper knew the ingredients themselves were about to go bad. She grabbed a croissant and took off a piece with her other hand.

"Smartass." Axel said as he turned towards her.

Harper winked at him and finished her bite before speaking again. "Holly seems to be running out of food, is it okay if I bring some to her today?"

Axel sighed, his suspicions about the Holloway's food situation confirmed. "Yes, take a loaf and the leftover lasagne, there should be enough for three. Tell them I'll make more soon. There's a bag of rice too." Axel figured that then, at the very least, they could cook rice for themselves. "I'll make a bag with some stuff."

Harper noticed the slightly defeated demeanour of her brother. While they were not strapped for food yet, it would run out. The greenhouse in the garden could only provide so much and the restaurant groceries Axel had in his truck while coming here were dwindling down. Harper wondered how many supplies there were at the restaurant and Axel's apartment above.

"Don't go further than the Halloways though" Axel added, eyeing his sister. Harper nodded dutifully. Technically, the park was across from the Holloways, not *further*.

"Thanks, Axel." Harper looked at her brother. It was clear he had been working on the baking for a while, as she saw a familiar bleak expression on his face. Small beads of sweat on his forehead. She wondered about his sugar level right now but knew better than to ask. Axel, however, noted her looking and knew exactly where his sister's thoughts went.

"I'm going to the clinic later today, around 2. Don't worry, okay?" Axel said, as he turned around and grabbed a plastic shopping bag, putting the bag of rice in there already.

Harper was worried. Especially since Axel has such an adversion to leaving the home, but today he's going to. In any case, Axel leaving is good timing for Harper. She left the kitchen and unlocked her phone again.

<Snipped quote by Days>

I promise that I'm not doing it intentionally. I'm getting to the age where I need glasses but Ember is accepted and please move her over whenever you can.

I a 100% didn't think you were. Honestly she was hidden above a normal message and a gif so no worries. Thanks so much, I'll move her over!
@Silent Whispers You passed over my sheet. Which can happen, you had to catch up on so much. Good to hear the bday was good!
