There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero never gets to see that ending.
They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end they just have to have faith.

A Perfect plan doesn't mean having everything go within expectations. A perfect plan is achieved when it has the plasticity to flexibly deal with the problems -Shogo Makishima
The scariest monsters are the ones that lurk withing our souls -Edgar Allen Poe
“Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome. Do your worst, for I will do mine! Then the fates will know you as we know you”
"Sorrui" Cain said sheepishly before putting his weapons on the rack, and continuing back to his seat. The man listened to the explanations of how the guild works, a simple hunt and gather type system that was easily understandable to him. Afterward, Cain stared at the various papers in each person's hands, the troll was a new enemy he had no experience in fighting. But by the description, it would be a worthy fight the giant of a man moved closer to the horsewoman and her companion. Pointing to the paper before himself, making his intention to join clear.
Gensai could 'perceive' that he had reached his location, Rider's familiar presence of slaughter was palpable in the air. A familiar kind of aura similar to his old companion Okada Izou. Gensai stopped a few feet outside the forest and quickly materialized himself, a large surge of magical energy was beginning to gather up in the sky his instincts screaming at him of the danger.
Noting the dark clouds he quickly determined it was a dangerous spell if it could simulate Raiden's wrath. Gensai started his sprint again, every step following tiny tracks of hooves on the ground, increasing his speed gradually as he neared toward a clearing, he could see the familiar bats swarming around Rider's master, although the woman was admittedly holding her own she wouldn't survive such a spell. Rider herself was currently preoccupied with enemy lancer he presumed.
Gensai used his built up speed to jump high into the air, his trajectory putting him in the eye of the swarm, grasping the handle of his faithful blade. Once he had come within striking range his blade was free from its sheath for mere seconds as he sliced through each of the golems with an ease none capable enough to dodge his high-speed strikes as he became a veritable hail of blades that cut through all of the bats.
The assassin landed himself gracefully a few meters away from Maeve, his sword already sheathed on his belt. Gensai wasted no time as he heard the crackle of lightning, closing the distance between himself and the allied master. He quickly grabbed the young woman in a princess carry and jumped with all his strength away from the clearing the two individuals getting launched a few meters deep into the forest.
"Sorry for the sudden, kidnapping young lady but Rider was quite preoccupied."
Gensai said to the magus he was still carrying, the two of them watching the giant bolt of electricity slam into the earth with an almost divine force. Judging by the maniacal laughter heard afterward, Rider was quite fine. Nearing the ground, Gensai used some simple acrobatics to soften their landing and then gently put Maeve down after noting no threats were in the current area, except the quickly spreading flames. Before a sudden downpour soon followed, the droplets from the clouds being released by the subsequent bouts of thunder extinguishing the impromptu forest fire but drenching both Maeve and Gensai in its wake.
"So, you wouldn't happen to have dry clothes do you?
Gensai asked his head politely turned away from the now drenched woman.
Isaac was absorbed into his thoughts his mind thinking up on various scenarios, of what a his servant would consider 'Bad News'. The young man was quiet for a few minutes neither speaking through the link nor his cohorts. Suddenly his servant began to speak again telling him of the news, Isaac finally began to regain himself as he absorbed what Atlanta said. His hairs standing up as he heard of Heracles's famous arrows.
"Forgive me Archer, I was preoccupied with my thoughts, I shall relay the new found information to our team. Not to diminish your skill but still be careful alright? I will mobilize my familiars to inform Maeve as well."
Looking back at Johann, Isaac was silent before acknowledging the other Heir. His blue eyes having a steely look, as he thought about the weapon of the enemy archer was using. An extremely powerful bow used by the Greatest of the Greek Heroes, from what Isaac had read in his spare time such an arrow that was capable of forcing Chiron to let go of his immortality just to not be able to suffer the agony of the Hydra's poison. It was an incredibly powerful Noble Phantasm to whoever currently possessed it.
"I have grave news from Archer, the enemy Archer seems to possesses Heracles's Bow. Luckily Archer assures me that the enemy's shots are too weak to be Heracles himself, possibly their Archer is Poeas, his son Philoctetes, or an Argonaut who can borrow a noble phantasm. Whoever the Archer's identity inform your servant to not get cut by the enemies arrows, it will either be a quick death or an agonizing life if they are hit. I will send out some of my familiars to inform Maeve, see if you can contact the others."
Getting up from his tea Isaac quickly went toward a nearby window, looking at a trio of gargoyles that perched on top the roof a fair distance away from the main room. These were a few golems he had made using an old gargoyle statues he saw in the church last week, while not as powerful as the ones he could normally make with higher quality materials, its wings were exquisitely crafted that it flew quite flawlessly due to the sculptors talent.
"לעלות."
Isaac recited the simple command aria, the eyes of the statues were brimming with red prana as its Jewel core began to pump it full of life. The Golem's flapping their wings and soon hovered in front of his window, waiting for his next command.
"שומר. לציית. תמות. עבור הלוחם."
Isaac recited the keywords that branched into automatic responses. His creations already knowing full well of how to operate under the simple prhases he had uttered along with Maeve's designation. The golems merely nodded before flying off in search of the Maeve, their shadows seemingly simple giant birds before they disappeared into the clouds flying straight toward the trees of the Valley from Downtown. Isaac gave a quiet sigh before seeing the lightning blast in the distance, a cold sweat pouring on his head as he saw the display of Kabbalah that could not be mistaken as normal lightning.
Seems like there is an extremely strong practitioner in their ranks.
Came Gensai's lax but enthusiastic response, as he jumped from rooftop to rooftop. Gensai couldn't help but enjoy the new perks being summoned as a servant got him. Never did the Manslayer think he would be able to move as well as a Koga Shinobi nor be able to jump from each roof with a little sound or ounces of dust being displaced most of it already hidden by the rain. Even after the grail had uploaded him with all this knowledge of his abilities and the situation, experiencing this second life was something he was enjoying quite immensely as he silently landed on a lamp post a fair distance away from where Rider was trotting, Archer from what he can tell just shot a swarm of bats that flew pass him mid jump, his form very presence hidden by his skill and the rain.
“Hehehe. You know Taichou, being a servant feels great! If I had these abilities we probably wouldn't have loss so badly against the Shinsengumi. But I digress Neko-chan is currently shooting at some bats and Rider still hasn't encountered anyone judging by how quiet it is, I'll go scout out the north-”
Gensai's words were cut off as he saw a speeding projectile fly pass him towards where Archer was positioned, his Eye of The Mind (True) quickly activating as he began to deduce all the possible nests for the enemy archer to hide, seeing as 2 more come for his ally he properly deduced their location being near the mountains. Upon seeing Archer's return fire. Gensai let out a sigh of relief as she probably deflected or avoided the attacks. With combat imminent Gensai moved quickly as the battle between the archers began, quietly leaping from the lamp post to avoid getting shot by a deflected arrow.
"Taichou! The enemy Archer has just attacked our Archer from the Mountains. I shall go and warn Rider of the danger, the chances that the enemy's allies are near them is high. Archer is holding her own from what I gathered, I would only get in the way if I interfered in their battle.”
The Manslayer's words were suddenly devoid of all warmth, Gensai's skill having activated after realizing that combat had started. His experience dictating his decisions and imploring the man to get serious. The Assassin quickly began running through the streets at a break neck pace when his feet touched the ground his body disappearing as he went into his spirit form, his steps still not leaving a sound or trace as the drizzle covered his tracks while he traveled through the alleys. Considering how critical masters were in this war, Gensai could easily see Rider's combat efficiency would be impaired if she had to protect her master from such enemies his assistance would be needed if they were to encounter more than one.
"Do as you please Archer, as long as you abide by our agreed terms. Although I must say finding out how skewed the information regarding the sex of Heroic Spirits is quite astonishing."
The voice in Atlanta's head was filled with childish interest at the remark, being quite the literary and mythological fan. Isaac was quite proud of having summoned an Argonaut even though he acted indifferent in front of the others. But hearing anecdotes from one was making bottling up such unnecessary feelings a challenge. A few questions already gracing Isaac's mind, before being immediately discarded in order to act like a proper master after hearing of her report. His mind going through a memory check of their current defenses as he finally reached the hallway to the main room. Isaac knew they currently had a decent number of bounded fields and traps scattered around the area, quite capable of eliminating any familiars once they get close enough to the manor, but having the enemy know their location at the first skirmish was something that can easily be considered a loss.
"Seeing as you already shot one, please eliminate all remaining familiars and change positions before the enemy can pinpoint the origin of your shots. I'll keep you posted on any developments in my end."
With that simple request sent through the link, Isaac finally arrived in the main room. His ally Johann Wald was disappointingly still reeking of his "Medicine" again, something that bothered him more greatly than his underclassman's habit. With sigh Isaac sat down on the nearest chair, performing a few gestures to his automaton as it went into the kitchen to fetch him some tea.
"The enemy has sent a swarm of their own familiars to downtown, Archer is currently disposing them as we speak."
Isaac conveyed the new found information to his underclassman, as his golem came back with a tray of tea and chips. Marigold gently placing it down in front of them as he continued to speak. The golem placing his cup in front of him, the pleasant aroma blocking Johann's stench.
"Currently their hasn't been any sign of their servants, although that will likely change in a few seconds given that Archer has begun firing on their familiars. Considering all this I think, we should send out our own familiars with Lancer following behind to see if we can either draw out their servants or find their base."
Finishing his assessment Isaac quietly drank from his cup, the pleasant warmth and taste of his tea finally letting his mind relax as he he awaited his underclassman's reply. @Crusader Lord@KoL
Gensai has a calm and peaceful personality and will treat his master like he would a trusted comrade. When in a fight he rarely speaks and prefers to focus on taking out the enemy as efficiently as possible. Generally, Gensai is a laid back individual who is loyal to his beliefs and doesn't really abhor the fact he will need to dirty his hands to achieve this. He will typically invite his master and allies to perform tea ceromonies with him to relax. Although not having any regrets in his life, his wish is simply to relax in a tea ceromony with his friends again and maybe even duel for old times sake.
Background
Assassin's True Name is Kawakami Gensai, one of the four most notable hitokiri in the Bakumatsu.
Gensai was born in Kumamoto in 1834, to Komori Sadasuke, a retainer of the daimyo of the Kumamoto Domain. As Gensai was the second born, his elder brother Hanzaemon was chosen as the family's heir, due to this he was given up for adoption to Kawakami Genbei (河上彦兵衛), another Kumamoto retainer at the age of eleven. He was entered into the domain's school, the Jishūkan (時習館), and followed its academic and martial courses of study. Despite what feats he performed later in life, it did not necessarily you show in his younger years, as he is noted to not have won a single fight. With regards to this he is said to have commented "Kenjutsu (swordsmanship) with bamboo shinai is nothing more than play."
At age sixteen he was called to serve in the Kumamoto castle town as a menial in charge of cleaning (Osōji-bōzu お掃除坊主). Despite the fact that this was a low-level position, Gensai devoted himself wholeheartedly to it, using his free time to polish his martial and literary skills, as well as learn sadō (tea ceremony) and ikebana (flower arrangement). It was at this time that he met two men who would later be important in the activities of the Ishin Shishi: Todoroki Buhei and Miyabe Teizō. Thanks to his discussions with them, he took a serious interest in the concept of kinnō (勤王), or imperial loyalty.
In 1851, he joined the Kumamoto lord Hosokawa Narimori and went to Edo for his lord's sankin kōtai rotation. It was during his service to the lord in Edo that Commodore Perry arrived in 1853. As the shogunate subsequently entered into a series of increasingly unfair unequal treaties, Gensai left Edo in anger and returned to Kumamoto, where he entered the Gendōkan academy of the kinnō scholar Hayashi Ōen. After a thorough schooling in Ōen's kinnō philosophy, Gensai returned to Edo. Gensai was present at the Kumamoto residence in Edo during the Ansei Purge.
In the aftermath of Ii Naosuke's assassination, when a group of the escaping assassins suddenly entered the residence, it was Gensai who calmed down the subsequent uproar, calling for a doctor and having a private tea ceremony for the men. It was during this ceremony that he told the men of his admiration for them. In 1861, Gensai married Misawa Teiko, the daughter of another Kumamoto retainer. A martial artist herself, she was highly skilled in the use of the naginata. The couple would have a son, Gentarō, who survived even after Gensai's execution, thanks to Teiko's efforts.
In 1862, he joined Kumamoto forces who were posted to security duty in Kyoto. It was at this point, he quit his job as bōzu, and soon after, left Kumamoto service altogether. In 1864, he lost his mentor Miyabe Teizō to a Shinsengumi raid at Ikedaya, vowing to become strong enough to fight against them. While he didn't go on a war path for revenge, he would hold it with him for the rest of his life, and trained to become stronger, perfecting his speed, and his swordsmanship. From this, the Shiranui-ryū was born.
This came in handy soon after, when Gensai carried out his most famous and only confirmed assassination: that of Sakuma Shōzan. He ambushed Shōzan in broad daylight in 12 August 1864. Using his renowned speed along with 3 other assassins, he was able to assassinate the politician before his band even noticed Gensai was there, his cohorts killing the guards and inflicting Shōzan's body with 12 more wounds to ensure the certainty of his death. Gensai escaping before Shōzan's other retainers realized he had been killed. This one act of killing what was said to be the greatest man of his era changed the tide of the war.
He would later clash with the Shinsengumi many times, and it was during this time that he met various other manslayers, most notably Okada Izō, becoming friends and comrades on the battle field. He would also go on to make various assassinations. After this, he withdrew to Chōshū and took part in the military actions of Takasugi Shinsaku's Kiheitai against the shogunate's Chōshū Expeditions. However, during action in Kokura, he surrendered to Kumamoto forces, and was imprisoned until just after the Meiji Restoration.
In the aftermath of the Meiji Restoration, Gensai was released from prison. He changed his name to Takada Genbei, and served as a military official and teacher for the Kumamoto domain. However, because of his harboring of some Kiheitai stragglers under his old comrade Oraku Gentarō, he was again put in prison, and was executed in 1872. Even on his deathbed, he had no regrets in his life. He was proud to have fought for his ideals, even if it meant dirtying his hands. After his death he was inducted in the Throne of Heroes.

Manslayer: A+
Being the most prominent of Four Hitokiri of the Bakumatsu, Gensai's sword skill is specialized in cutting down humans with a blade. A practical form of swordplay focused on nothing but victory, unsuited for one whose soul seeks out the truth of the blade. Yet that is why it is strong, and so brittle. Drastically improves one’s offensive power against Mankind this is not a talent, but the very anecdote of speacializing in killing man.

So long there is even a 1% chance of a comeback, this ability greatly improves the chances of winning. Shiranui-ryū: Shunkan Ken(Unseen Sword)
Rank: - Type: Anti-Unit Mystic Sword Range: 1 Maximum Targets: 1 Person
The Noble Phantasm of Kawakami Gensai. It is not a regular Noble Phantasm, however, and can be more described as "Gensai's signature sword style being used as a Noble Phantasm". It s a sword-style completely unique to him, as he was the only practitioner after being educated in kenjutsu by Todoroki Buhei, and has therefore become his iconic symbol by default, in a similar manner to No Second Strike. A style that allowed him to assassinate targets in broad daylight, described as a high-speed technique. While normally his sword style is already incredibly fast, when using its true name it is a lethal attack that is "the act of drawing the sword, striking the target, and re-sheathing the sword instantaneously". Drawing a sword with one hand, with right knee in front and slightly bent, with left leg extended backward so straight that the left knee almost touches the ground. As soon as drawing he attacks in extremely low posture.
Due the technique having been used to assassinate Shōzan Sakuma. It has also received the characteristic as "The act of killing the greatest man of the era". Due this property of the Noble Phantasm, the damage dealt by Gensai increases the more renowned and acknowledge his target is.
This damage is symbolized by the wounds dealt to Shozan's body after having been struck down by Gensai, the additional damage ranging from 1 to 12 wounds appearing on the body after Gensai's strike.
