Seeing actual bushfire footage looks straight out of Hell... It moves so quickly and so powerfully, literally the trees just ignite. You firefighters are absolute legends, but please, don't die.

Welcome to my little personal den of Hell! Sorry, sorry, I meant my personal profile. Same thing, right?
I'm a roleplayer, same as any around here. I've been doing it for about five years now, coming up to six in September. Its been quite the time, thinking back. I started out fresh as can be, understanding the basics of writing but never quite knowing how to become better, or become as great as those around me. In the end, I did the only thing I really knew at the time:
Write as much garbage as possible and hope for the best!
As you can see, that particular tactic fucking failed. Jokes aside, I like to think I've developed a lot over the years, both as a writer and as a person. However, absolutely nothing can dissuade my weeaboo ways and supporting my OTP with all that I can freaking muster! If you haven't already guessed, said OTP is Chrom x Robin (Chrobin) from Fire Emblem: Awakening. Highly recommend the game, there's a reason (other than nintendo's cheapskate attitude) that it hasn't dropped in price, it's honestly the best place to start off in the series. And hey, maybe you'll end up addicted like me and want to buy every game on the 3DS like a fucking loony?
Speaking of loonies, the Fire Emblem Chrobin Comic Dub Project has recently finished, so for those of you who also appreciate the best ship in existence, I highly recommend it. Hell, even if you're not interested in that, I do highly recommend watching it for those into fantasy love stories. The quality improves drastically with each episode, so trust me when I say by the end of it you should be thoroughly impressed. It has helped motivate me in ways I can hardly describe with words, and so I thought the least I could do was put this out there. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I know it was the perfect thing for me.
"Do you think you can tip any of the scales in here?" "Chrom, for the love of Naga, I'm thinking..."
"So I heard."
"There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know."
There is a universe. No-one knows it's name, where gravity wasn't strong enough to bind matter together and no stars formed. And because no stars formed, no stars exploded. And because no stars exploded, no planets came about. And because no planets came about, there was no life.
There's another universe, no one knows it's name, where gravity was strong enough and did light the stars and planets came about and boy, they were gorgeous, planets in perpetual winter, planets in perpetual summer, planets that could rival the Garden of Eden and no bloody snakes! And on one of them, eventually, complex life evolved and one of the species developed large brains learned things like manners and dabbing, when they looked up at the stars and wonder what they were doing here. You called them octopuses, I suppose. Gosh, they were clever, for octopuses, and one of them, several million years in, almost wrote something in ink on the seafloor, a message to its friend. And the message almost read: "Hi! How are you?" And a few millennia later, space folder back on itself and, you get the idea. Goodbye Octopi.
There's another universe, where life formed on every planet, in every solar system, and it was carbon-based, it was silicon based, it was made of crystals and water and plasma, it was made of quantum fields and light, and everything was alive, everything was doing a boogie, and it was everybody's birthday, everyday, relatively, and everyone got presents, and they had over a trillion languages, some written down, some only spoken, some conducted telepathically, and they bought a galactic civilization together, as a perfect unity, sharing stories, sharing technology, speaking a common tongue, understanding everything about how the cosmos been put together. And finally, when everything was sorted, the galaxies were arranged into perfect geometric formations, transmitting pure love, and wisdom, and birthday greetings to all species in the universe, for all time. Papercuts never happened, coke came in glass bottles, no one even remembered the word for war, everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.
And yet, for a quirk in their evolution, because resources weren't scarce enough on the planets these species developed on, not a single creature in the universe was conscious. Food was eaten and no-one enjoyed it. Movies were released, and there was no laughing, or crying. No-one chuckled at a joke. Ever. Space collapsed back on itself, eventually, and there hadn't been a single moment of sentience in the entire history of creation.
There's another universe, where the strong force is too strong the weak force is too weak and nothing forms. Another, where life develops too late when the Stars have all gone beyond the light boundary and there's nothing to even see. Another with too many dimensions. Another with not enough. Another where time goes in the opposite direction, and species begin as gods, and wind backwards to cells, and never learn to survive. Another that only lasts milliseconds, and collapses in on itself, and heads straight back to oblivion. And that's how it just might be, across all possible universes, across all possible space times. Problems with the laws of nature, not enough resources, missteps in evolution. An atlas of dead-ends.
Then again, there is one exception.
There's another universe, a big one, where life is rare, where intelligent life is very rare indeed, the stars are very distant from each other, the laws of nature are very complex, it's extremely lonely for any species developing, and most never even develop at all, but somewhere, we believe, is a planet where the oceans are vast, and the climate is varied. Where the smartest species on the planet may have developed just the right mix of ambition and kindness. And if you were to travel there, to this unbelievably rare statistical anomaly, to this impossibly lucky planet, where evolution, biology, chemistry, nae, the laws of physics themselves have come together to create sentient intelligent life, you may be able to catch the native inhabitants singing for joy. Of what an impossibly lucky, and rare position they find themselves in. It is a chant of gratitude, a ritual of showing appreciation for ending up in perhaps the one universe, in the one solar system, on the one planet with all the basic ingredients for intelligent, conscious life.
Something in this RP just fucking works. Like I don't know 100% regarding the science, but again, it's so god-damn fun! I can't wait to see what else gets thrown our way - and especially once we get knew Kindred Spirits we can then revitalize as new characters.
I agree with this, as well as the thing Pro mentioned about playing the character a certain way. In my case, it's using the source material and WoL to expand on the character in question, to see how they would react in a situation like this. Persona 3 is a great game, but sometimes the protagonist seems so strong-willed, and doesn't share the same pain as their friends. And while there's a good explanation why, I personally would've liked to have seen the protagonist's hopelessness expanded upon as well. Galeem's tomfoolery at the right point in time sets me up for a way to do that naturally, and without disregarding the source material! It's fucking great!
But yeah, this RP is great and I just wanna extend my thanks to @Lugubrious for being a goddamn genius!
Level 1 - (2/10) EXP Location: 1-1, Master of Master's Mushroom Word Count: 759
Awakening - pt.3
Hearing his vague explanation wasn't lost on Minako, the teenager offering her genuine smile as thanks. It was softer, however highlighted her tiredness further, which became clear as day once she fell into the hammock. Though not asleep, one could easily mistake her for being so, seeing just how lifeless her body appeared. It was like offering that state of consciousness where you're half asleep and can't quite piece together what's going on, and beg your alarm for five more minutes. Already half-lidded, the crimson eyes of the summoner scanned what little sky she could see beneath the mushroom, though nothing really stood out save for vibrant colours. It wasn't the dreary green of the Dark Hour, but was no more comforting as the rest of the scenery. From the hammock she let her eyes fall closed, though alert enough to listen out for what was being said around her.
And yet, for what had to be a cruel twist of fate, the Master of Master's described what was essentially what she had gone through for the entire year. Again, the Spirits were just Shadows, Galeem was a light version of Nyx, and the new information about the 13 Enemies? Yeah, she knew how to read a tarot deck when she saw one. 'The fool's journey...' Thought the summoner, thinking back over her own journey, and how the people she met reflected those that The Fool had met himself. And yet, she already went beyond death, the thirteenth tarot card. Her journey ended well beyond that, at The Universe Arcana. How could she be back here, doing the exact same thing as before, if there weren't an ending? What... was going on?
It made her sad that she couldn't simply find Igor and ask for his guidance. Or Elizabeth. Or Theodore. Even someone to rely on to help her make sense of this in her head. Anyone. Would she need to make new Social Links? Were her old friends as forgettable as the light from the sun, easily replaced by... whoever these people were? Surely life wasn't that shallow, right? It... it couldn't be.
But the more she thought about it, the more painfully obvious it had become that life dealt her the middle finger. All your past efforts? Worth nothing. Friends? They're worth nothing. Saving the entire planet? Oh, I'm sorry, we don't care about that. How about you do it all again for us, pretty please?
It made Minako sick.
Maybe it wasn't all bad. Her friends were still out there, apparently. She still had that to look forward to. But honestly? Doing the same thing, undoubtedly harder, without any support whatsoever wasn't the redhead's thing. Maybe in a video game, but in real life? Yeah, no, she'd have to pass on that. Maybe everyone else who was speaking would be interested in doing the right thing, but her? She'd sooner take a nap than go through any of that again. Speaking of, there were a few members of the surrounding party who Minako could make out from her position. Some of them looked like Personas, though others appeared quite human, if a little oddly dressed. There was only one seemingly normal person around, and he still looked like the Devil Arcana, even with a literal dinosaur/dragon thing next to him. The blue robot would likely be the Aeon Arcana, the dragon would be the Tower, the knight would be the Justice, and the little dancer girl the Lovers. The green girl had to be the Hermit, and the little fuzzy ball was most likely the Sun. The Master could be the rumoured Jester Arcana, something Minako knew she had to be wary of.
And, like always, she would play the Fool. Someone needed to be the main character.
But someone had to ruin Justice's day. That hint of worry in his voice was a clear sign he harboured the same concerns she did when waking up. Maybe, despite being from vastly different times and worlds, there was something which could align the two? "The light consumed everything and anything. Everything that was part of your old world is probably here, assuming everything we know is correct." Though she directed her statement towards the Centurion, Minako didn't look his way. In fact she still had her eyes closed, unmoving on the hammock like some kind of coma student. But she did, at least, project her voice enough so that she was audible, even if she typically didn't do so when not fighting.
@Lugubrious Good points, maybe I will post then :3
And in Minako's case it's far from the weirdest thing she's had to see. And the rest are likely in the same state of mind Archmage mentioned: "Fuck it, it's weird, so long as it won't kill me I'm happy."
Before her teammate could say anything else, a loud announcement blared out over the area, warning everyone that the exam would be cut early. No doubt somebody had been injured, but to such an extent as to close an exam early? It had her worried for her fellow examinee, even if it happened to be one of the more difficult personalities from before. The exam still technically went on, but only as far as it took to get all examinees and their dummies back to base camp.
Which made Azukina think: did the order to take back dummies and leave the rest also apply to villains?
The Lizard hadn't moved yet. She had to speak her mind before he ended up making his own. "Right, we need to get this guy to the starting point." She made pace to The Lizard's body to flip him on his back, in case he was laying on it, so she could freeze it over. Though he was a heavy one, pivoting one's body low and using their legs meant anyone could roll over a human beyond their weight. The Lizard would be no exception; Azukina lifted his shoulder so it was off the ground, before pushing against it with her body, using her legs as her primary driving force. If she was lucky, The Lizard would make it easy for her. If not, Umeru doing the same thing to his legs would be enough, anyway.
"This is our only chance to score points now, unless a dummy lies directly between here and Zone 2." Began Black-n'-White in a more serious tone, though not entirely discarding her happiness from before. A few steps back meant she would be in a good position to cover The Lizard's back in an icy layer, thankful for the way her quirk had a cone-like functionality. "If we come across any dummies we should probably pick them up and take them with us. Getting as many legitimate points as possible now outweighs our need to score individually. I don't doubt that bagging this guy alone will put us ahead of our classmates, but any extras will be welcome. Not that the exam has much bearing anymore, being cancelled so suddenly..."
A hint of disappointment in that last statement contrasted the seriousness of her person, sounding almost withdrawn, in a way. However, it seemed Azuki shook said disappointment away, so to refocus on the task at hand. With a simple warning of "OK, I'm starting now," the monochrome girl lit up her palm once more, the cool air coming out in a more gentle yet concentrated breeze. Again, the fog made it easier to freeze his scales, and with The Lizard unmoving, her icy wind was quick to create frost. She hoped that, due to her acting quickly, frostbite wouldn't become an issue, especially with how he shrugged off her more intense suppressive blasts from before. If it was, surely he would let them know, right?
After a minute of freezing, the teen let her quirk fall idle, and moved towards the villain once more. He was still on the ground, and still breathing, though was probably a tad uncomfortable. But if she could show to him just how hard she would work for this, maybe he'd see their efforts as worth it? Maybe he would bear through it for their sake?
She really hoped so.
In any case, the two would roll him back onto his back. Yomodachi motioned for Umeru to join her by his legs, which were the best place to drag him from. His larger feet were easy to grip if one wrapped their arm around his ankle, and it would likely be the safest place to carry him by in the event he woke up, even if his tail put them in danger. "The legs are best to drag him by, his arms would only put us in danger. If we do it like this we can shift the strain to our legs, too, which makes dragging him easier. And if Turbines joins us, he can try for the tail, maybe even put those arms to good use for once!" Considering how depressing it was to both not actually take down the villain and have the exam cancelled, the teen felt it appropriate to add a little humour in. Once they started dragging it would be even more painful, but hopefully, getting The Lizard to the finish line would prove as an accomplishment. At this point, she wasn't really doing it for the points. Now she wanted to prove to those that ignored her before that yes, she COULD effectively handle a villain, and so could Kuuki and Hiroki. They just had to omit the facts a little.
"Lets make the other students' jaws drop, shall we? No matter how much it hurts, we'll drag this guy back to Zone 2! And when the points are counted, we'll be the ones at the top, because Turbines doesn't count if he doesn't come help. You ready, Umeru?" Despite her halfway-frosted arm, Azukina was ready to go, seemingly unflinching in the face of adversity. Even if it would likely make her legs hurt like Hell, she believed in their ability to make it, even if it would take longer than the others. It simply had to work.
When Kuuki gave the OK, Azuki would begin dragging with all her strength, hoping that the ice, scale and tar would be enough to offset the weight of the Lizard. She was confident it did. It was the same principle as ice skates on a frozen lake. And ice skating was something Azukina knew well. @AdmrlStalfos19@follycle
Thank you both for your responses. To reiterate (because I did a poor job of mentioning it in that post), the only thing relating to the first issue is through the summoning of personas. Weirdly enough, the topic itself largely doesn't exist outside of certain parts of the games and movies, and from memory, none of the main characters go through with it. I recall a minor character in the beginning of the first movie who does (hit by train), however seeing as it happens in the first minute or two, I'd say it acts more as a tone-setter and reference to grief and moving on (as it uses the train for symbolism, which many persona games/shows do), while simultaneously introducing the casual movie-goer to the final stages of Apathy Syndrome.
I'll do my best to give the first summoning (almost always the most unnerving) as much respect and due care as I can. If that turns out fine with everyone, then it shouldn't be a problem later down the line, since it's the most detailed one. Keep in mind there isn't any graphic material or even a gunshot when the Evoker is used, either, so that won't be an issue, I think. But yeah, I'm sorry if it makes anyone uncomfortable when it comes about, but the first summoning of a persona is always the most intense. After that I can write things far more simplistically, once Minako's state of mind has changed. It'll be less "this could kill me" and more "I'll summon my persona", which is how the games and movies handle it as well. Which, I just realised, might be a reference to dealing with grief.
Also I'm not sure if you guys can tell but I don't like Persona 3 that much. It's only my favourite persona game and one of my favourite pieces of media I've ever consumed, that's all!
Level 1 - (1/10) EXP Location: Master of Master's Mushroom Word Count: 572
Awakening - pt.2
While not in a state well enough to properly show she had heard him, Minako most certainly had. Hearing that she wasn't dead yet was, in a way, disappointing. But at least there was some light in knowing that she wouldn't pass away anytime soon. That she had a life ahead of her, and that she could live that life how she wanted.
The problem with that, though, was the second bit of news her new associate made her aware of. That the world she had once knew? Gone. Now replaced with some kind of new world. One under this "Galeem's" control. Everything about the whole situation just felt familiar, being close to death and facing an enemy much greater than herself. It made the situation feel less important than it really was. Spirits were Shadows, Galeem was Nyx, this world was Tartarus. Only this time, her friends weren't around. And that hurt Minako more than it would most people. Her friends meant to her as much as, or potentially more than, the entire universe, which granted her the strength to defeat Nyx - the Universe Arcana. Minako couldn't go back to her life before S.E.E.S, she simply could not live that life again, that life of loneliness and isolation. Ten years of lost social interaction gave her the strength to defeat a god, but also a weakness to compensate:
To feel like she did during those ten years once again would make her a vulnerable person.
Keeping her mind busy would be the best distraction to combat this, and, desperate to get away from such thinking, Minako lifted her hand to accept the Master's help. An audible groan escaped her throat as she was brought to her feet, however it seemed like she could stand with his support. "I'll be... I'll be fine. The hammock sounds nice, though..." The teen forced a smile, though eyebags and strained teeth gave away her difficulty. Still she pressed on, determined enough to get someplace more comfortable. Her social smarts were keen enough to glean that the Master wasn't about to cause her any harm, at least not anytime soon, and she needed all the help she could right now. He didn't seem to be lying, either. She got a feeling he could be trusted. But it was best to reserve that for later, and not blindly give it out, as she had so foolishly done so before...
'Ikutski...'
No, she couldn't think of that, she couldn't think of him. She had to leave the past behind for now and focus on the present. But, there was one thing she had to know before she could push herself completely into the present. As they came around the side of the tent, Minako asked the question she had wanted to originally ask upon waking, had she not seen the Master.
"Have you seen anyone like me...? I think I came to this world with others. They... they had this armband." At this she would point to the iconic S.E.E.S armband on her left arm, though wasn't confident it was a good enough reference point to go by. But if he could foresee things, maybe he knew about them, or something about who they were. Anything to put her mind at ease, really. But, assuming they had time, she could easily go into more detail about the individual members, if he only asked.
Gonna play it safe here and put this down in case anyone isn't into hella dark imagery. I suggest reading it if you're sensitive to the topic of suicide, because I don't want anyone having to dredge up any bad memories because I wanted to include a character from a dark game. There are workarounds that can be made in advance so nobody gets hurt reading my posts, which is the last thing I want. I'm more than happy to make changes to my posts or the character's summoning technique in question if it's too much for some people, as I don't want anyone to have an uncomfortable time with this RP. That said, again please read this if you're uncomfortable with the subject of suicide, and preferably with an open mind to the game's subject matter and presentation.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Persona 3, or the Persona series in general, it can tend to be pretty messed up when it comes to the themes it presents. However Persona 3 is often regarded as the second darkest in the series, and the darkest of the popular persona games, because the theme of death is central to the game's identity. And I don't just mean it's dark here and there, the themes are interwoven into the characters actions, as well as how they summon their persona, a manifestation of the psyche given physical form. In persona 3, personas gain physical form through extreme stress and trauma, as well as an acceptance of death in spite of that trauma, and are summoned using an Evoker.
If you've read over my application fully you might have an idea where I'm going with this.
In order to simulate the extreme stress and trauma of dying, the Evokers look like pistols, and summoning your persona with an Evoker requires the user to put the Evoker to their head and pull the trigger. Of course, me being an idiot, I didn't think this through when making the character and only came to realise after the fact that not everybody is a little edgelord like me and has had the same experiences as I. Personally I like the idea, it's a creative way to express the themes of the game as a whole and weave it into one of the big choices you can make during battle. But not everyone would agree, and that's OK, which is what this post is for.
Persona 3 also has a couple notable character deaths, a few of these happening as a result of firearms. Should it ever be brought up in the RP for whatever reason (Minako's weakness), I might write it a tad viscerally, basing it off of how Minako felt when experiencing those deaths for the first time. People also have pretty bad experiences with guns, namely you Americans, which is incredibly unfortunate and I hope it hasn't happened to anyone here. But if it has, I need to know. Same with the suicide references, I need to know if this bothers people, or even if you guys think it would be a smart idea to put the more sensitive content in a hider. In fact, that was my first suggestion: to put my more sensitive content behind hiders with appropriate warnings, so those who don't want to read it simply don't have to. Those that do can choose to do so, so it's a win-win.
The alternative is to keep these things to a minimum and change the way Minako summons her persona. Which I can do if necessary, as I won't disagree with the GM's decision. A sprinkle more amnesia would do wonders to help her forget those gun deaths too, which would mean nobody would have to worry about annoying hiders. BUT, this also means her character will have to be rewritten, which isn't a huge undertaking, especially so early, but it will need to be done. Which is why I realised I needed to say this all now before I got into anything too personality-rich for Minako, because that would require rewriting posts, which can be a lot harder.
But yeah, that's basically the gist of it. If anyone has a problem with this kind of stuff and would like me to hide it behind hiders, I can do that! It'd be preferable for me if hiders were used over rewriting aspects of her character, but if it's necessary I can also do that to make sure nobody has to worry about their escapist hobbies dredging up bad memories. Again, I want everyone to be able to have fun with this RP, and I definitely don't want to be the cause of a bad time. If everyone's cool with it though, then sweet! If not, lets talk about what I can do to accommodate you.
Sorry for the long post, and thank you for reading. I just felt it was important enough to warrant a warning.
@Lugubrious I'm not entirely sure if you're familiar with Persona 3 as well or not, so please read this over when you get the time, since I don't want any conflicts of interest to happen either.

Another where time goes in the opposite direction, and species begin as gods, and wind backwards to cells, and never learn
to survive.

Sorry, sorry, I meant my personal profile. Same thing, right?

I'm a roleplayer, same as any around here. I've been doing it for about five years now, coming up to six in September. Its been quite the time, thinking back.
