"Much of my work is merely etching words onto stone. For dozens of lords, I have done this hundreds of times over. Somehow, massive lettering on cyclopian structures manages to inspire the illiterate. Admittedly, I cannot read many of the languages I'm commissioned, so I can sympathize. There really is something about it that inspires awe, even if those messages end up looking like nothing more than pictures."

Hey guys! Sorry for the long wait. I've been a little occupied, but time is a flat circle anyways and our lives are ultimately meaningless.

Thank you all for expressing interest in this. I figured I'd make this a whole thing I can't put more than 5 other people in a PM, but since we're here, we'll be the driving force and creative council for this thing. I want this to be our collective project, contributing however much you feel on your own time. Very casual, no pressure, just a creative exercise / some foundation we can build some cool storylines off of.

There are two primary components I have in mind for this:

First, we lay out the physics / natural law for the world. This will be more behind-the-scenes and is just there so we're all on the same page when we write our lore. This will include how seasons work, what creatures and races inhabit this world, how powerful magic is and to what degree it was be wielded by individuals or anything else. I expect this to be reviewed and refined a lot in the forms of rationalizing and bickering. It will continue to grow as we figure out new things we need to cover for the sake of comprehensiveness and clarity.

Second is a lore. This is something that will probably be developed more individually, although collaboration is highly encouraged, especially when we're going to be co-existing in this world. This will include culture, history, geography, characters, and literally anything you'd believe is worth a story. This will continually expand as each of us wish, but we will all need involve ourselves in each other's work to some degree for the sake of consistency.

As for how we proceed, we'll be developing the two in parallel:

The current age of the world is around the Bronze Age (maybe up to early Iron Age at most), so very ancient vibes. We'll be coming in maybe a century or so after a cataclysmic event (along the lines of a Deluge or Sodom & Gomorrah; we can discuss the details). I'm also envisioning high fantasy, so a fairly immature understanding of science, a odd and monstrous creatures, and magic still shrouded in mystery. I guess most of this first part will consist of what we'd like to include in this world and general boundaries we're looking to set.

The lore component will be much looser and open-ended. I don't like being anal about creativity, and history has always been told differently from various perspectives, so why not have a little wiggle room? I suggest we each begin with our own culture and bounce ideas off each other, but of course feel free to collaborate on these things. As this develops, our history and lore will start intertwining and we'll have solid story material.

I hope I haven't lost your interest yet! This is all kinda difficult to describe, but I'll just talk about what I've been working on. Right now, the whole concept is really vague, but it's called Recollections. The first page is basically a list of my culture's idols. The posts after are just excerpts from notable people that pass by this venue. They all have something to do with the apocalypse or the events following it.

I see the Character Sheets tab being our "libraries", pages like mine or mini-encyclopedias and stuff. One post will be maintained for each culture / religion / tradition / whatever sub-group you want really.

I would love to hear everyone's questions and thoughts. I apologize if any of this is unclear. It's late here and I'm just typing as it comes to me.

@Andreyich

Definitely! I'll draft something up and send something out in a couple hours!

Good to hear! Right now, I'm thinking of a post-apocalyptic time in a Bronze-ish age. It would be like a combination of natural disasters, hostile environments, and crazed early-civilization warfare.

PM me with any ideas you have! We can start brainstorming the framework and lore.
Sup dudes.

I'm seeking a chill group of open-minded individuals interested in worldbuilding to bounce ideas off of and collaborate on constructing a universe and its storylines. I like tedious work and organizing finely-tuned backends.

Potential settings in my head are ancient times, super high-fantasy, post-apocalyptic, and / or surrealist / abstract.

Right now, I'm envisioning hashing out ideas, compiling a bunch of lore, and building out cultures. There will naturally be a divide in terms of our own creation, but I almost prefer our ideas all co-existing and mingling rather than building dependencies on each other.

I also like brainstorming, criticism, and bad jokes.

Hmu if any of this sounds interesting to you.

Isinu entered the dining room alongside several others, but lingered near the entrance so he could scan the room. He stood still in his armor, seeming almost lifeless if it weren't for the periodical slight turn of the head to follow the newest entrant to their seat. As more invitees became acclimated, he could feel the arrogance in the room gradually amass. He had already assumed there would be tension in the group, but saw this as an opportunity for Lancelot to legitimize his leadership by uniting this many powerful and forceful people around the table.

Having enough of his own superficial first-impressions, Isinu sought his own seat. He was weary of the ability of the chairs to support his weight, but thought it rude to not properly partake in his new lord's first gathering. Now, it merely became a matter of where he should put himself. He did not intend on socializing much, but did not want to entirely exclude himself either.

Finding some odd compromise, Isinu took his place in the most densely-populated area of the room. The petite woman who seized the chair across him had distanced herself from the table so that her back was against the wall.

Although he was sure the feast was delicious enough to somewhat bring together his new peers, he ultimately gave the food little attention. He could not eat it even if he wanted to.

Rather, he sat still, staring at her across the room through his unmoving face.

"Battles have always been fought on our grounds. Many believe the spirits of the dead empower them and have a hand in the outcome. I suppose nothing brings the living closer to the dead than treading on the edge of the blade, so it would not be unacceptable for the dead to respond to those that reach out.

"I have never encountered the dead myself, but I do not doubt their existence. I have watched people willingly die terrible deaths in the spirit of honor, and time after time I have cleaned the great white stones of their blood. Their bodies are buried alongside their comrades, and I assume they linger the memorials until the next show. Perhaps there's some enjoyment in it for all. I just like to think I contribute in keeping this tradition alive, and maybe even looked at favorably by my patrons."

"My grandfather was a marvelous merchant, traveling to foreign lands and dealing with nobles on matters of money and luxury. His son, my father, constructed trading vessels and sailed the seas to prosperous shores. There is no doubt that I have surpassed both. That is not to say I am ungrateful to or more capable than either. Greater opportunity merely happened my way and I seized it just as they would.

"There is no better business than war, probably because there is no bigger motivator than self-preservation. Life has always gone through great lengths to combat its most immediate threat. It will expend all its efforts, everything it has, for even a marginal chance of success. It will strengthen itself and devise craftier methods, just so it can continue on a little longer. If there is anything my career has shown me, it is that when it comes to survival, there is no price too high."

"There is no greater burden than the one left by our ancestors. All my life, I've carried this with me. The indignity of offenses I've never witnessed has brought out a wrath that envelopes my heart. I have no knowledge, but somehow I am possessed by the spirit.

"The mystics say I have the warrior's fever. My fever has shattered nations beneath my feet. It has touched citizens of all kinds and turned them into revolutionaries. My fever has been burning for as long as I can remember, and no matter how much I try to feed this hunger, there is no relief."
