| NAME |Daphne "Daph" Hall
| AGE |Seventeen
| MENTOR |Martian Manhunter
| DESIGNATION |Y08
| APPEARANCE |
Caucasian. Honey brown eyes. Warm brunette hair left long in loose waves. A pleasant heart shaped face, with a gentle smile and dreamy eyes who always seem to be a million miles away. She has a semi hourglass figure, with her hips being the widest part of her body. It's not the kind of build made for intense physical fights, but that is where her power kicks in. She stands at a modest 5'3".
This time around Daphne does wear a suit. Colored in various shades of pink the top is a corset style piece, with attached sleeves. There is a semi skirt flowing behind her waist as a replacement of the usual cape. The bottom is fairly simple, tights and a pair of deep pink boots. Daphne has a customized domino style mask, shaped to resemble two petals joining in the center. The suit is able to completely disperse along with Daphne. This can be attributed to Daphne's control over her newfound transformation rather than the actual design of the suit.
| BIO |Daphne Hall or "Daph" as her adoptive father and steph brother call her was taken in by the single dad at age three. A biologist at Gotham academy who was incredibly passionate about his work. He was a loving dad, but also scatter brained, leaving her often in the care of her older brother. It was a source of friction between her father and Cain, who didn't feel like being an unpaid baby sitter for his dad. Reluctant but loving Cain grew to care for his baby sister over the years. They were a close knit bunch, sometimes a little too much. Especially when Daphne grew into her teens, suddenly both her dad and brother had gained a new full time job, making her life impossible.
With two overprotective family members hovering over her all the time, Daphne became somewhat reclusive. She wasn't anti social, but she didn't go out with friends too often. It usually wasn't worth the battle with her dad and brother anyway. She'd been walking home from school, after a late class. Daphne was supposed to take a cab, Cain made it very clear how uncomfortable him and dad were with Daphne walking through Gotham park alone, regardless if she was almost sixteen. In an effort to gain some semblance of independence she'd managed to convince them to let her walk home for once. Turned out that it was exactly during this one time, the thing her dad and brother were scared of happening, happened. She was walking past a trail leading into a thicket when she was pushed against a tree by a group of muggers who had been tailing her. Threatened and held at knife point Daphne's metagene activated.
She transformed. Her plant like appearance not only scared away the group of muggers, but also Daphne. When she held up her hand to see it covered in bark she screamed. The Dark Knight had been stalking in the shadows, ready to intervene. After taking care of the group of muggers Batman returned his attention to the more pressing matter at hand. The girl who had shape shifted into a plant. Daphne panicked trying to revert back to normal, when it wasn't working she started to hyperventilate, until she fainted on the spot. Batman caught her in time. The loss of consciousness oddly did not reverse the change.
As this was clearly not within his field of expertise he contacted the Martian Manhunter shortly after bringing Daphne to Wayne manor. The Martian was able to change Daphne back by removing a psychic block, which her mind had created after the trauma. She woke up in a strange bed, in a house at least four times the size of her own. She listened to her dad's relieved lecture with only half a mind, too caught up in what happened the night before to feel sorry for her dad. On the drive home they talked about everything that happened. the strangest part of it all was the trace of scholarly excitement her dad couldn't keep out of his voice. The following weeks turned into a study of her abilities at the lab of Gotham Academy. She trusted her dad and together they analyzed the extent of her metahuman capabilities. Slowly but surely though Daphne noticed something changed in their relationship. It happened gradually but there were times where her dad treated her more like a research subject than his daughter. During one particular intense testing phase, where they attempted to recreate the events of the robbery Daphne locked herself into her plant form for the second time.
After the intervention of the Martian Manhunter she was successfully changed back. Daphne confided in the Martian and her brother that she couldn't continue with her dad's tests anymore, but she felt guilty. She knew he was publishing something that would get him noticed in the scientific community, based on the research they were conducting together. Cain knew if it came down to it he would protect Daphne, even from their dad. The Martian proposed a diplomatic approach where Daphne would become a part of the new Young Justice initiative, where she would learn more about her powers under his guidance, while arranging for a monthly study session with her dad. It would give her some room to breathe, living at Mount Justice and possibly mend the strained relationship with her father.
Two months after joining the Young Justice initiative her career as an aspiring Justice League member came to an abrupt stop. Something disastrous happened during one of her study sessions with her father and she fell into a comatose state, induced by her powers. This time it seemed irreversible. After several months Daphne seemed to be giving up only to surprise everyone by recovering to her human self, seemingly without any external intervention.
| ABILITIES / SKILLS / EQUIPMENT |Daphne is a shape shifter. Her body is able to completely transform into plant material, including all of her organs, becoming homogeneous matter, without any part of her form being more important than the other. Her powers alter her entire physiology, allowing her a plethora of skills often seen in the plant kingdom, though most of her potential is locked behind doors of self doubt. They seem to work as a subconscious protection mechanism, where her power activates without her consciously willing it.
Daphne has so far been shown to utilize two seperate transformations. The first and original transformation resembles a tree. Daphne refuses to use this transformation, after being trapped in it. It gives her more resistance to poison, bacteria and diseases found in humans and a natural bark armor. She does require oxygen but less than humans, and she creates oxygen as a by product of photosynthesis. Her blood becomes photosynthetic, allowing her to potentially go without food for extended periods of time and granting her a self healing ability when exposed to the sun. Her pain threshold is heightened, and while plants don't have a nervous system to feel pain, she still does, though it functions differently.
Daphne has the ability to communicate with plants she touches. The deep connection she experienced with the Green during her coma made this ability more powerful. Having walked the line between human and plant for months gave her deep empathy and understanding for all plant life. Even in human form she can communicate with them over long distances, through clusters of tree roots and even potted office plants.
Daphne is a pacifist. At first she was known to avoid combat training, getting by on luck and counting on her team mates. After gaining a new transformation that ironically lacks in offensive qualities Daphne started to rely more on her own strength. She was taught more advanced self defense moves by members of the Team and deepened her understanding of physical combat.
With her aversion to violence you would think she doesn't have any business being a superhero. Luckily her reluctance to engage in a fight goes out the window when others are in danger. Her hesitation to engage in a fight lessened. Daphne is a compassionate girl who cares about the people around her.
The second transformation is one she uses exclusively. It is a human-shaped cluster of blossoms, acting similarly to a swarm of bees. Daphne is able to fully control each individual petal, allowing her to be both a shapeless cloud and a humanoid female with distinct facial features, a flowing dress and hair. By altering her shape Daphne is essentially intangibe, unable to be harmed by many physical attacks.
Because of her near weightless form Daphne is able to ride the wind currents allowing her a limited ability to fly. She is constantly accompanied by a calming pheromone, it's exuded by the petals that make up her body. Its strength is proportionate to the exposure her enemies experience when fighting her. The closer she is the stronger it becomes. Daphne mainly uses this ability to disarm and take away agression.
| LIMITATIONS AND WEAKNESSES |
Daphne is just a human girl, well a metahuman. Her powers make her more durable, but she is not indestructible. The limits of her regenerative abilities haven't ever been tested, and it would be akin to torture to try to. If she sustains enough damage in her plant form she can't regrow and will die, like any other living organism. Every weakness plants have she shares.
During times of intense emotional and or physical distress Daphne can sometimes become locked into her plant form, unable to change back on her own accord. It is not advised to stay in this state for too long because the lines between flora and fauna will start to fade. Up until now the Martian Manhunter always had to intervene. He says a safe and calm environment might enable her to change back when he is unavailable.
Her blossom transformation brings its own set of drawbacks. Strong winds or bursts of energy will force her to overextend, seperating the petals violently. This can be very damaging, as it's similar to pulling at a limb. In the same vein the capturing of a separate cluster of blossoms will slowly destroy the whole, something Daphne likely wouldn't survive.
