Hi! I noticed that the OOC is already up, but this is really cool concept! Is there still room for more players?
Definitely interested!
@71452K yep! That kinship stacks up quite nicely with what I had in mind. Intrigue and mutual awareness.
By the time Abysso had tossed his claw into a side compartment and boarded the APC, it was already teeming with the rest of the squad. Throughout all his years at Oakridge, punctuality had never been his strongest point. The culrpit wasn't sleep deprivation- he had taken a good nap within the last twenty hours, but he was assisting a much younger student from the Warfare division with concealing a blade within her arm prosthetic, which proved more difficult than he had anticipated because she couldn't make up her mind as to if she wanted the blade to swing out like a door, or to just be able to retract like a cat's claw. Time just seemed to escape him whenever he took on a project, and though he wasn't late exactly- he checked his phone to make sure he had arrived within the given time- it was clear he was one of the last ones to board.

The vehicle itself was on the sturdier side, he noted as he took a seat and secured himself, and some of the other Carriers lacked armor but more than compensated with speed or utility. Personally, he had never really taken a liking to piloting the more heavily fortified models. The interiors were full of sharp metal edges and he'd slammed his head on one-too-many roofs to enter one without reflexively folding his hands above his head. But, it made the most sense for this mission. They were soldiers, so comfort was understandably omitted as a design priority.

The stench of exhaust and burning rubber had become mundane after days spent in labs and forges, but the subtle odors of sweat and chow from others in the seating compartment was new. A bit of a recluse in the academy, Abysso mildly took note of the other passengers, some of which were his squad mates sent along for the same mission. The assignment had been read over with equanimity, and he was looking forward to leaving the academy for what seemed to be the first time in an eternity. His mission details had given the identification numbers of the rest of the unit but they were useless to him, numbers nearly always seemed useless to him. Tampering with and assembling engines and machines could feel cathartic at times, but multitasking with numbers and locations was a chore. It would be a pain to be the only one tasked with recording locations, so it was a relief that he recognized a fellow Navigator- Celise. He wasn't well acquainted with her, but they had taken enough of the same classes for him to know she was hardly incompetent.

Listening halfheartedly to the chatter between the other student-soldiers, Abysso noticed a few other familiar faces. Celise nestled her head on the She-Wolf, the latter's typical air of restlessness nearly palatable in such a small space. Then there was Montero, with whom he'd shared more than a few words and a fellow nocturnal. It wasn't much of a surprise seeing all of them, they were Guardians after all. He hadn't met any of the other men in the cabin either, though most seemed to be of much greater stature so vaguely he wondered if they felt claustrophobic in the small space. The cabin wasn't small in comparison to some other Carriers, but he was never comfortable with being cooped up.

If he couldn't see the sky above and feel the wind blow through him, it was hard to feel at ease. The other men all differed in disposition- collected, hearty, introspective, haughty. He didn't both acknowledging any of them. If they were assigned the same mission, all pleasantries would be out of the way soon enough. But he did know Celise, Ulva, and Montero. Though seated with his arms at his sides, gaze forward, if any of them took note once he was situated, Abysso would offer a slight nod in greeting.
@Prisk Appreciate the info on the spirits and the rooming situation! So Abysso and Celise will just have shallow knowledge of one another, which I can work with. Speaking of which, my post is coming along and it'll mostly be an observation and retroactive reflection on the way to the city.
@Panko - That's the question, I'm having a fumble of thoughts. I'm thinking a bit of both, considering the inter-crossing dynamics and reoccurring theme of wolfish devices, and come back to the concept of a wolf vs. a coyote. Perhaps there's some commingling of positive and negative reception, a basic theory and feeling of something that sets them apart because one is similar to the other, but given a mutual turn of understanding in their brief connections through general education, a wolf can respect a coyote in her midst to some slight terms, but there's something that prevents the two from ever coming together as "friends."

It's vague, but I'm okay with indistinct acquaintances to build upon through out.

That's fair. A she-wolf and a coyote might feel some kind of familiarity with each other, but it's veiled behind wariness. They can respect each other and work in tandem if they have a mutual interest, but after that they part ways without any fanfare. Abysso might be able to see from Liesabet's point of view if he set his mind to it, but there wouldn't be a significant reason for that level of interest. Indistinct acquaintances seems about right, with what we currently have to work with.

I think before posting in the IC, I'm going to want to establish any possible kinships that Abysso might have with the others, so it's clear who he would and wouldn't recognize in the Carrier.
@Rockette Hmm... alright now that we have a basic idea of how their dynamic would theoretically work, would they actually know each other? They might have had classes together in the past when they were taking an equivalence of a general ed, or something like that, though I'm not sure if they would have had positive or negative experiences with each other.

edit: @71452K I edited Abysso's kinship section, with what I found to be the dynamic from Abysso's POV. Though, if you think that it's too friendly for the two and you'd rather have them develop a bond in IC, or even go the opposite way and have them cultivate a growing rivalry, we can work something out as well.
@Rockette I noticed they both have wolf motifs (she-wolf and coyote, respectively) after I had written the first part of the CS and by then I was just like... well those are two distinct enough metaphors where it wouldn't impede. I'd even go as far to say they have similar quasi-nihilistic worldviews, but it's far too early to gauge how loyal they'll stay to it. The most prominent difference between the two personality-wise is that while (and do correct me if I'm mistaken,) Liesabet is inclined to wandering and searching, Abysso's core is of compliance and numbness. That could serve to be a pretty useful contrast between them, as they're both "lone wolves" but due to different causes. Two different ways to approach the mystery of life: search for the whys, or just allow it because it simply is. If they're acquainted, Abysso would probably find her boundless energy wasteful but unless she specifically asked him if he has a problem with her, he'd treat her the same as anyone else.

@71452K it'll probably take place IC if one of us has a sudden idea. 'And that was when Abysso remembered at age sixteen, when Montero had oh-so-apologetically taken the final serving of leidan gruel. Since most of the staff were asleep at this hour, there was no more being made and as Abysso recalled the betrayal, he clenched his gauntlet imperceptibly tighter.' Actually, I take that back. Since that's Abysso recalling something another character did, I guess I'd have to run that by whoever has the other character first but... that's the gist of stuff.

So in IC are all the characters are headed to Ledale or are we split?
Nice! We can develop their kinship as the RP progresses and if it's convenient necessary, we could even have a flashback here or there to explain why they have a comfortable silence instead of an awkward one. For the most part, though, I'm down to just improv stuff to make it feel like Abysso actually grew up in the school and didn't just lurk around for how many years.
@71452K definitely! I can see the two trading glances like ಠ_ಠ if they're totally unacquainted. They're both interested in finding alternative fuels, but I don't know if Abysso would be vocal about such a tender issue unless they have some sort of bond. It would be nice for them to know each other, at the very least, as Abysso would know about Montero's efforts to give spirits autonomy and finding alternatives to whale oil (unless it's a top secret type of deal). They could even be "friends", or whatever Abysso's equivalent of a friend would be, through their shared interests or otherwise. Probably comfortable silence instead of unnerving silence?
