"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

Awe, I'm wonderful~! :D
After Lydyn's character's accepted I'll get the IC started.
Awesome, I can feel conversation coming around. We'll be ready to depart the Haven soon, and venture into exciting territory. >w>

Need a post from you, Urukhai. :)

Is there any room left for a former Obsidian hopeful to jump back into the ring?

Hehe, spots are guaranteed for former players. I'm glad you could make it. :)

Lovely, I think I'll refer to the kill switches as KSPs from now on. Your backstory is twistingly awesome. Alter is accepted.

Don't go too crazy, Lydyn. ;)
Aislin could feel the footsteps closing in on her, catching up at an alarming rate. The very earth trembled under his feet. She couldn't run any faster. Her mind was exhausted; this whole extended consciousness thing drained her severely. It was a losing battle, Luis was seconds behind her. She was going to die, for real this time.

At least the last monster felt bad about eating her.

This man... This murderous dog, he would feel no remorse. It would only be by incredible luck that anyone would discover her body sliced open in the caves weeks after. It sounded like a pitiful way to die, not at all as exciting as she wanted. She couldn't begin to fend off this monster. Hell, any monster. And it would be her undoing.

I'm dead... And no one will know. She thought somberly, the devil's breath on her neck.

BOOM! A deafening shot exploded throughout the caverns, sound waves ricochetting off the walls. Aislin tumbled over her own feet, landing in a heap on the path. A high-pitched whine reverberated in her ears, blocking out the whimpers she failed to hear escape her lips. She frantically searched the darkness behind her, looking just as another shot violated her eardrums. For an instant the cave lit up, and she beheld a masked figure standing over the devil's collapsed body. Flicks of blood splashed on Aislin as the last shot went through his head.

Then, it was quiet. Deathly so. Aislin shivered on the ground, waiting for a third bullet to take her out. But it didn't come, the softest of footfalls disappearing into the depths of the caves. She was alone with a corpse that had been moments from killing her. Was it luck? Divine intervention? Who was it that saved her this time?

Aislin slowly rose to her feet, using the wall as support. The air stank of copper and iron, twisting her stomach. Nausea built up in her throat, and she pressed a hand to her mouth. Her curiosity was beyond satisfied, all she wanted was to leave. Screw the blue lady, her adventure almost got her killed.

"Aislin!" The air stirred beside her, speaking in a warped tone. "What... What happened...?"

Ailsin recognized the tone, even if she couldn't see. "Dana..." She hung her head, exhaustion and post-shock bearing full force on her. Cold tears seeped from her eyes as she wiped blood off her face. Her body shivered uncontrollably. "... The m-m-monster on the ground... He was seconds from murdering me... Before s-someone... Murdered him." She choked, trying to hold back the sobs.

Her head spun painfully. "Please... Get me out of here..."
I wanna do some fanart for this awesome roleplay eventually. Anyone have any suggestions? :3
Their clash of weapons was frantic. Slices of purple and orange ricocheted off the stone shrine as they parried each other's blows, stirring the dust below their feet. Mattien retained his anger and ferocity the entire time, channelling electrical strength through his mace. Organge discharges escaped its spiked tips, crawling along the ground before disintegrating.

"Have at you, Mage!" He roared, slashing at her again.

Lithe on her feet, Evelyn sidestepped his attack as her sword grinded in a sliding block on his, releasing sparks. She spun, coming down in a quick 360 degree arc with her blade. Mattien met her with an equally powerful strike, shattering her conjured sword into pieces with a pulse of orange magic. He swept at her again, leveling the mace at her chest with a defiant look.

The elf chuckled, raising her palms in surrender. "Surprisingly I am defeated. What, pray tell, is your name, warrior?"

Mattien grinned, returning his mace to the sheath on his back. "Mattien Arior, mi'lady Keove."

She narrowed her gray eyes. "Just Evelyn will do, thank you."

The mage brushed the dust off her sleeves, glancing at the two new individuals at the shrine. Evelyn was quite sure they traveled here by magical means, she could see the afterimage in the air. One was dressed in white with a blue sash, dark hair perfectly styled. Several swords hung on her belt, the same as her partner who Evelyn quickly recognized. Wasn't he the traveller who approached her at the inn? Yes... Wrensthav,  the mysterious enigma...

Oh, how he frustrated her.

"Are you two here to be tested as well?" Evelyn asked, gaze flickering between Wrensthav and Polaris. "I believe I only had the pleasure of being introduced to one of you..."
I'm glad to hear RPG is working again. :D

Drew, your character is accepted. Jazz, your explanation is much appreciated.

I would like to wait for a few more entries before we get this show on the road.
RPG is back~ :)
Ooh, I like Cheshire, Drew. Her personality is intriguing. But an insta-kill electric shock sounds... a little insta-kill. I think it might need some more limits. ^^;

That makes sense, Apokalipse. Thanks for explaining your thoughts, heh. Arsenic is approved.

Messaged ya back, lydyn. :)
The light revealed something more of a monster than one with golden, soulless eyes. His awful gaze, how it shot ice in her veins. It was as though the air was sucked out of her lungs. The lighter fell from her quivering grasp, landing with a clink on the stone. He spoke, every syllable paralyzing her in fear. The candlelights surrounding Aislin reacted to her dread and slowly extinguished, one by one, until a single remained. The stranger was silhouetted in the semi-darkness, hands behind his back.

How vain she had been, descending into the darkness alone. She wished to cut out her own tongue, with all the good its done her. She wanted answers so bad, and here she blew her only chance. The stranger looked pissed as hell, almost murderous.

Malevolent, the devil uttered, "And here you are, all alone threatening someone you do not truly understand... Where no one will ever find you!"

Metal blades glinted in the low light as he whipped them forward. Wicked, long combat knives aimed for her throat, and Aislin did the only think she could do, instinctually. The ground gave out below her. One moment it was solid, the next more fluid than water, and Aislin fell into the stony earth. It immediately reformed as a concrete surface above her, barricading her from the devil.

She had half a breath in her lungs, and her terrorized body screamed for more. The fluid stone pressed up against her lips, and she fought to not panic. She couldn't push it away, there would be no oxygen and she would rip apart with the building pressure. If she lost focus, the rock around her would solidify and she'd be trapped. But dying under stone sounded better than dying at the hands of a psycho devil any day. With her last shreds of determination, she cleared her mind. The stone relaxed with the slowing beat of her heart, and something clicked.

She could feel the devil's shoes a couple feet above, pressing down into her. The stone continued on from her body, sensing the shapes around and above them. It was a new, unifying feeling, being half-aware of two separate thing. And using this building of an extended conscience, Aislin summoned stony vines to wiggle alive around the devil's feet. They latched on, tightly wrapping once around his ankles before returning to being motionless rock.

Her lungs screamed again, and Aislin swam through the fluid darkness before resurfacing around a corner down the tunnel. She gasped for air, pulling herself out of the stone rippling below her. It was just as hopelessly dark in the cave, and Aislin had to listen for the devil located behind her.

She didn't say a word until she was running on her own two feet in the opposite direction. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...!"

Poor Aislin fled for her life, running up the maze of tunnels in the cave systems. She couldn't see a damn thing in front of her eyes, but her mind was aware of the second consciousness extending below her feet in the stone, sensing the twisting path and sharp turns. It also was aware of her feet, and aware of anything possibly catching up to her. She was unfamiliar with the tunnels, being so deep in the caves. Hoping to God she was going the right direction, Aislin ran and ran.
