Personal biography, as detailed by the subject for use in republic archives. Acquired shortly after last achievement of note. Some details may be used for training purposes.
The first record of any note pertaining to the man that would become Colonel Jace Malcom is that of his enlistment during the year 30 BTC. His home planet of Barcaria has been known for little more than its infamously smelling, but valuable, salts. During the early years of his career, Malcom already began to show the characteristics that would later make him invaluable to the Republic and its war effort. Strong of spirit and body, with determination, patriotism and charisma to boot. He was a natural selection for the Republic military's elite trooper program and, within two years, had already made the rank of Corporal within said program.
His early postings with the military were largely on the worlds of the Republic most at risk from the attacks of raiders and other unaffiliated groups, such as the Mandalorians. Several of these more isolated worlds still bore scars from the last war against the Sith, despite the long stretch of time. This only hardened the young soldier's heart towards the various threats to the Republic, and only more determined to protect their worlds. Early on in his career Jace became involved in the military aspects most connected to governance and administration, placed as he was on world's that required the military's aid not just to defend them, but also to restore them.
Jace's next posting proved something of a mystery to those who knew him. The accomplished, up-and-coming trooper was assigned to the Orbital Security Station above the protectorate world of Korriban. While this had once been the seat of the Sith Empire, the role of the security station had become mainly an anti-smuggling operation, hardly playing to the strengths of the accomplished soldier. Jace however, took it as a sign of those above him seeking to test his approach to different assignments and attacked it with as much enthusiasm as he had his more active roles. Whatever the purpose had been, will never truly be known, for the fate of the galaxy proved far less peaceful. Over the next few years, The Resurgent Sith Empire began to strike back against the Republic, using both covert and overt means of war across the Tingel Arm of the Galaxy, far from Korriban. The Republic pulled most of its forces back from the Korriban Security Station to reinforce other regions, although Malcom was one of the troopers to remain. During the middle of another anti-smuggling sting, this time assisted by Jedi Master Kao Cen Darach and his Apprentice, Padawan Satele Shan, the Resurgent Sith Empire launched its first attack on Republic Space. The Republic Trooper and his Jedi allies were forced to align themselves with the very Smuggler they had just been arresting, but, alongside the use of his ship, and the sacrifice of the Jedi Master, Jace was among the few who escaped in time to warn the Republic.
The war would continue to rage, much more desperately than before, for twenty-eight years. The abilities and attitude that marked him out during a period of relative peace only sky-rocketed Malcom's career during such a time of total war. Shortly he attained the rank of Captain, in part due to the shortage of Trooper Officers the war was causing. He was placed in command of Infantry Squad 326, a decision which would change the very nature of the Squad itself, and, through them, the course of the war. Epitomising Captain Malcom's set of abilities, favouring decisive blows as well as interacting with local forces, civilians, and governments, Infantry Squad 326 ultimately became known as Havoc Squad, for their ability to disrupt the Sith Empire's plans, particularly as the Imperials often underestimated the danger non-force users could pose them.
Throughout the war, Alderaan remained the symbolic heart of the Republic, championing its values and providing a safe harbour for its fleets and armies. Many Republic military forces were temporarily stationed on the world for respite as the Republic rotated its forces during the ever-escalating war. It was during one of Havoic Squad's stints of respite that Captain Malcom once again met Satele Shan, now a Jedi-Knight, who had been tasked with the defence of the planet. The pair had forged a bond of respect after their Korriban Adventures and it was now, during a longer time spent together, that respect grew into a friendship, which grew ever closer.
Alas, Havoc Squad's respite was to be interrupted. When a feint from Sith forces drew the Republic Fleets around Alderaan away from their defence of the world, the Sith Empire launched an invasion, led by Darth Malgus, another 'acquaintance' from Korriban. Unknown to the Sith, however, after their invasion, the majority of Republic forces escaped into the world's forests rather than surrender. Havoc Squad took a prime role in the continual guerilla war that followed, the Republic's forces benefitting from the combined leadership of Malcom and Shan, who both had a talent for the form of war required to keep fighting under such terms. This came to a head when the Sith Empire finally marched on the capital of Alderaan, and, despite being heavily outmatched, Jace's forces ambushed the Sith column. The battle that transpired wreacked the aforementioned havoc upon the Sith forces, but would have ultimately resulted in failure had Satele not intervened to stop Malgus. Ths encounter only worsened the already building rivalry between the Jedi and Sith, as well as the Trooper.
A far more meaningful bond was formed from that battle, however, one that reached its crescendo that very night. Satele and Jace's bond of mutually shared war became one of passion and love. They had both been warned, albeit with different levels of impetus, about such a thing, but it did not matter. The next months fighting over Alderaan were the most intense of the war for Jace, his hatred of the Sith matched only by love for Satele, something that honed his focus on winning the war into a knife point.
Of course, what is born in flame burns and dies swiftly. Fear of the Dark Side, and her ancestry, those were the reasons Satele gave Jace when she broke off their secret relationship. Of course, he tried to convince her otherwise and railed against the traditional Jedi mindset that put too much stock in prophecy, but, even Jace could feel that by the time they spoke she had made up her mind. The woman he loved walked away, for a long time after that, there was only the war.
As the fight against the Sith continued, at first Jace's rage and anger for the Sith only burned brighter. Havoc Squad were thrown again and again into the crucible of war, daring to fight where no other forces, at least outside of the Jedi and Sith, would be sent. It was during these years that Havoc Squad developed another aspect of their character. Not only were they commando forces without peer, they were dedicated Sith-Killers, able to make up for the advantage of the force with training and the Republic's best equipment. Many an embarrassing defeat was dealt to the Empire's arrogant ruling class by these troopers in white and orange.
Overtime, however, with age, experience and exhaustion, Jace began to understand what Satele had meant on the night she had left him. The extent to which his anger had consumed him had pushed him to take unnecessary risks, not just to himself, but to the men he had commanded. He had, in some ways, become as callous as the Sith that he fought against, this being a lesson he learned sorely. Once again, the war brought Shan and Malcom together, not for any great time, each a short moment of shared company, and to an extent, their bond was rekindled, even if it remained a different, cooler, kind.
Jace was back on Alderaan when the war ended, the nature of which almost undid the progress he had made in calming his state of mind. The Sith betrayal and their invasion of Coruscant was a blow to the Captain which he has yet to really recover from. The Treaty also spelt the end of Malcom's career with Havoic Squad, instead being promoted out of the military unit to the rank of Colonel, and then stationed as a military advisor, primarily to Alderaan. Acting with his established skills as a liaison between the Republic military and local forces/governments, he spent the time supporting the fringe worlds most at risk from the Sith Empire. Following a long series of success in this role, and a general shake-up of the Republic's political situation following the long series of investigations after the Treaty of Coruscant, Jace Malcom, almost as much to his own surprise as any, has been made the Supreme Commander of the Republic's Military. The man himself suspects this to be a move from politicians within the Senate wishing to appoint someone they hope to control, or at least, not already controlled by a rival, but all the same he has taken this role on, pushing the Republic military towards being ready for another galactic war.
