@Legion02 Well the reason Darth Nihilus could not consume the main characters life force in the second game (as well as that blind chicks whose name I've forgotten) was that they were wounds in the force. Your character more so than the blind chick, I was kind of surprised when I talked to the Jedi council and learned what I was. That game was a damn good man, makes me wish they'd make another already. (That and Vampire Masquerade)

Anyway, to a Vacare the Knights of Null will seem like wounds in the void, going off the idea all living beings are in some way connected to the void. Hence why a few select humans can manipulate it. There are some horrible grimdark side effects, of course, looking forward to seeing how that shapes out.

Edit: Also, I liked the excerpt of Vacare fluff, much needed and will be super useful.
@Legion02 Be afraid!

I'm going to make an effort on explaining the Knights of Null a bit more, including the process of becoming one a bit. It should be noted a single knight can't prevent a Vacare from manipulating the void. Which is why they work in groups when dealing or apprehending Vacare.

Think of them as literal wounds in the force if ya'll ever heard of Knights of the Old Republic. :P

Knife-fights for the win!

Regarding us coming up with tech, I honestly can't think up anything, I'll simply piggy back off of others :P

Adapt and all that.

You can always borrow pics from the ones I used for The Illuminated Cybran way back when.
I think we should all start make little tech and lore blurbs while we wait for IC.

Have we nailed down that we want to have two classes of void sensitives by the way? Proper Jedi like Vacare and less capable Navigators and Psychics? I'll get around to editing FTL and maybe making a blurb on that if nobody else feels like it. That said, I'd rather @Flagg or somebody more invested in the Vacare in general make that fluff.

@GreivousKhan Nice write up btw. I'll probably write up some other tech later today once I'm done with the big IRL stuff I need to get around to.

Ya, I do prefer introducing stuff as we post and build the world up. I think we're at the stage we can do that now we have important stuff out of the way like FTL.

One thing I do wonder though is when it comes to ship to ship- which might happen at some point- how exactly that will go down. Realistically at this stage, we could probably take pot shots at each other from across a system-- but that's boring. But if imperial doctrine follows something closer to broadside combat, like the knife-fighting as seen in star wars that would be a lot more interesting. (at least for me at this stage.)

That way the number of side guns a ship has could directly correspond with their ship classifications besides their role. Just an idea.

@Isotope but yo just so you know one of my first posts will be involving the Seft. Should not disrupt anything you have planned but will focus on trying to achieve an arrangement to make use of their shipyards. We can hash out details when things move more toward IC.

@Drunken Conquistador@Sigma@Flagg@Pepperm1nts@Ozerath@Legion02@Polybius@FrostedCaramel@gorgenmast@Isotope

Possible fluff for those interested in such things. :P

So in summary just was thinking of the exact weapon technology we have, so I thought up an idea to throw out there. This by no means is the only thing the Empire has access to, I'm sure each sector has their own thing. Though logically the more effect a piece of tech is the more widespread it will by the very nature of war and weapon development. I had some thoughts on shielding technology as well, perhaps using void shields that phase shift projectiles into the void until the system is overwhelmed.

If anyone has another idea I'd be interested in hearing it as I work on my post.
@GreivousKhan Like the sound of it too.

@Drunken Conquistador There is? Now I feel silly, my fault really for not reading clearly. But not a problem, I can easily revamp the military to take out the robot elements. Although brain jars bit sounds interesting.

Edit: Actually, the Brain in jar thing is perfect for the more elite cyborg units.

You could also just have V.I you know--machines that have really basic programming, unable to learn and are little more than advanced drones since they would lack true sentience.
<Snipped quote by Sigma>

Heavy walkers from the Age of Conquest supported by mercenaries, conscripts and most importantly xenos auxiliaries and sellswords of various species. Similar story in the navy- powerful archeo-tech ships of the line supported by pirates, xenos and profiteers.

Son of a bitch this is my Cataphracts idea exactly, what with them being walkers created at the height of imperial technology and being so advanced they can just be handed down with few upgrades needed.

GET OUT OF MY HEEAAD!

OOOUUUT!
Alright, some in-universe fluff talk is in order! :P

Any of you got ideas on military styles and themes? Mine of course, while a work in progress, is blue, blue and more blue :P Plus Robots, Cyborgs, and elite-ish(mediocre for some) old guard type units.

I was hoping to know the extent of gene-lock tech first. But I had a pretty cool idea in mind regarding an exemplary war engine created by the Empire fairly early on in its creation. These war engines are called Cataphracts, a cross between a mech and a walker with a single noble pilot.

These imperial Cataphracts are behemoths of the battlefield, giant walkers with the kind of firepower that could sunder entire regiments. Each is piloted by a noble or lord, everyone sworn to oaths of fealty to the emperor and driven by chivalric honor.

Basically, I had the idea every noble house was given a few of these bad boys, one for themselves and a one for key vessels. The Cataphract itself is gene-locked to that family lineage and thus only that house can use that Cataphract, with the war engine being passed down the ages kind of the same vein as a knight might have passed down his armor and sword to his son. With Cataphracts being painted in the heraldry of said family/house.

That's my basic idea, anyway, could make for interesting interactions if we go that route.

Even then I do wonder the exact technology level in terms of weaponry and protection. I think we get to delve a little into that by right, I'm proud of the fact the first bits of things he hashed out were all civilian sector. Now I wonder if we have energy weaponry at all and how widespread it is, or if we fell more toward gauss or mass drivers. I'll go with whatever is most wide spread.

There was a long pause that followed upon his arrival. It was a slightly uneasy silence that had him shuffle uncomfortably from foot to foot. Diēscogitō cleared his throat to break the stillness before it dragged on much longer. It made sense they might be slow to speak given how long they had all been apart. They were all familiar strangers after so many years. He could tell they had all changed significantly over so much time that Diēscogitō wondered if they might be considered the same people he once knew.

It was at this point another entered the clearing-- a small child at their side. The man was older; eyes heavier then Diēscogitō recalled, but he recognized Ryven and what was no doubt his daughter standing by him. Diēscogitō's hands went up, and he pulled his cowl back, before finally removing his mask. He offered Ryven a nod of recognition and a small smile to his daughter before returning his full attention to those gathered.

He was not sure what to say, or how he might address the others, so he decided to start with the obvious. "It's...been a while... I guess.."

Another pregnant pause.

He swallowed and licked suddenly dry lips, "I suppose we should..." he stopped short and frowned as he scanned the clearing once more. He spoke again, confusion tainting his voice, "where is father's..."

He stopped short unable to summon the words as if to speak it might make it all too real. The question was there; he had only recently returned to the country, still so much was unknown to him. Even how Brand had explicitly died stilled remained a mystery to him. His gaze fell to Adinraen though the question was voiced to all gathered. He hoped someone might shed light on recent events. If only to illuminate the darkness of the unknown.
