I think ya'll just over complicating it.
The idea wasn't to 'idiot proof' the system but to mentor or 'teach' the players how to do it properly.

If a character needs work then work on it with the player. A good start would be by having an example specific to this RP.

So far I have seen a lot of debate on technicalities and terms but not a lot of teaching. The longer this goes on the more I'm actually getting put off this idea.

Agreed. We've always said the best way to learn the arena is to just do it. Characters and all. I don't think this needs to be overcomplicated more than the arena already can be.

As far as teaching goes... not much we can really teach right now. We need people to start posting their characters. So we cab get things going.
I got pitched a thing.

So, Darth, suggested that to make the transition into the arena easier, that we give you lot pre-made characters. I'm down with some of you accepting them, and others not, but for fairness sake, it may be better of you all do or not.

This ay, you can focus on learning the steps of combat first before being thrust into designing an RP character s well as the thought processes slightly different.

I can see his point there, but got mixed feelings on that one. But I'll leave it up to them. My suggestion would be not to. The character creation is such a huge part of arena play. Or perhaps they can create a character, but also use a premade one to start with? I'd hate for them to miss out on that, but at the same time... I feel some of them could use a better idea for what they might build for.

and you'd probably get banned for it. :unibrow:
So let's leave it at that.

Haha. I wouldn't say it's THAT interesting.
We're not getting into an argument here now are we?

Me? Nah. I would never...
But, I suppose for the simple answer, @melonhead is correct @tasuke .

The teacher named teacher. Heh.

Not quite. There is more to it, but that would require a larger explanation.
No, T1 Eden and T1 are not the same thing, T1 Eden is a significant mechanical modification to the blanket rules of T1 textual combat. T1 covers the concept of taking it in turns delivering open ended actions that your opponent may then counter in their following turn. Eden specifically applies to the concept of balancing out magical abilities with preps, as opposed to cooldowns, mana pools, limited uses, and other varied and often times flawed balancing mechanics for abilities.

Smh. You're not wrong.

But It's Also a very limited view of combat types and rulings in the overall Arena. I didn't say your question was necessarily wrong, but that it was kind of weird. Coupled with Tasuke's question.

Eden Era, is still T1. But not vice versa. And yes, essentially the only thing it adds is preps.
I am here though it'll take me a bit to get a CS up. I've got an RP of my own that I'm trying to get going but I'll hopefully get that done soon.

You're fine. This only went up today.
Is this tournament T1 Eden or just T1? I'm assuming the former?

I personally forgot the difference between normal and Eden...

...it has been a long time. .____.

NEW USERS: DO NOT READ THIS

T.T I don't want to confuse you guys. And it's not necessary to know this right now.

I mean... you guys are kind of asking the wrong questions.

It's all T1. And Eden Era is kind of... normal. When you say the battle is T1, you basically state that it is paragraph form textual combat focusing on heavy description. The difference is really in the latter phrase. This is as opposed to t2 or other variants which are more chat room oriented. However, there's not really a person on here who uses any other form of t1. Eh. This is hard to explain. The other forms usually involve word counts. There is another style that you must address all your abilities and weapons in your first post or you can't use them. Among other various strange rules.

So.. asking if it's t1 or t1 Eden era, is kind of like asking if I'm Irish or of I'm an Irish Bastard. The real answer is... both. And it's a weird question to ask when... we all use the same rulings... all the time. Maybe with slight variations.

The only other explanation I can think of is, perhaps the forgoing of prep attacks. Some t1 rule variants do forgo preps
I mean, that's a general philosophy: it doesn't place any limits on the actual level power.

Airbending could go from just using gusts of wind to shove your opponent around, to hurricane projectile sheilds, air sledgehammers and even rune-traps that release shockwaves upon activation. Waterbending could only allow one to draw water to their hands from a source and then shoot it out in form of a high-pressure jet; or it could allow full control over water in a certain radius, allowing to attack from virtually any angle in close quarters, and also include temperature manipulation to create ice barriers and scalding steam torrents. The actual physical amount of the element one can manipulate also makes a huge difference: being able to hold 10 and 100 litres of water at a time is a huge difference.

So yeah, even with a single element alone, there's a wide range to account for.

This is true, which is precisely the point... while elements are very limiting in the bigger picture, they are potentially POTENTIALLY very versatile. Matter of fact, most people who start in the arena, typically start with elements. Why did you think every arena user here can tell you a million ways to use one element type. However, these guys have little to no experience. I personally look forward to see what they can create.

If you need a reference for power though, for what we are looking for, essentially, check out Rilla's Ninja posted on the first page.
