And back I am. Exhausted, certainly, and may need a while for that to wear off, but I'm once more here to read and even write!

There's a lot of backlog here on my end. I'm trying my best to lessen it, but replies might be less frequent for a time. A welcome change from the nothing doing I went through though! Thanks partners!

I suppose it is about time for me to copypaste fill in some information about myself over here just as well. Only took me a few years to getting around to do it.
I am a married individual in my twenties from the country some people dare claim does not exist. The Finland conspiracy is an old joke, you can stop with it now. Not a native speaker of the English language by any means, though I did begin studying it exceptionally early for our country's standards. I suppose it was some sort of a test case. With that out of the way though, what more should I be saying here...
I like being nice to people. If one needs to ask why, well that alone is reason enough.
I play and Dungeon Master Dungeons and Dragons, both offline and in the past also over here.
I enjoy OOC chatter, be it planning the RP or a more casual exchange (not that RP'ing is that serious). I can make do without, but don't be afraid to talk to me.
Whatever the case, I'm here to have fun and hone my writing abilities!
I do think that should about cover it, yes.
Thanks for stopping by I suppose! I do also have a Discord account, but I prefer to start anything RP related on the site. At least with people I don't know from the past, that is! But hey, now if you are a longer time contact of mine and happened to read this, now you know and can ask!
Welcome to the Guild, fellow individual of nervous disposition! Trust me, we are of many sorts here. What is outlandish to one might be the norm for another. You will do just fine. Do have a look at the New User's Guide and the Fundamental Rules of the Guild in case you haven't already, should make finding your way around here easier!
The bartender did not make attempts to hide his disappointment when the newcomer refused to drink. "That's going to bite you later, I assure you. Those two are pretty wary around people who seem wary themselves. 's for your own good. But hey, can't force you", the man said with a glint in his eye. Was he being serious or just playing in with the last minute salesman tactics of feeding false information in hopes of coaxing the sale out of the other party? Well whatever it was, it did not appear particularly successful with one of the amphibians arriving much too soon for any potential sale to be made. The man behind the counter clicked his tongue and returned to cleaning things with disinterest. Life was what life was, especially in the Night City. Not all hands dealt were winning ones.
At the table though, the gang leaders were very much holding the better cards. Croaks leaned back in his chair impatiently, his fingers rapping against the hard plastic surface of his gun. It was surprisingly hard to tell from metal spare the sound, and it really made him regret not having cut his fingernails like he had sworn he would do in the morning. The impacts echoed through them uncomfortably, and gave his whole gesture the telltale rattling sound of something going on while he would have preferred it to remain a silent gesture to add a bit of pressure. It just lost something when the partly hollow sound was there, you know? But Ribby appeared to have similar concerns in mind to his partner in crime. They were getting nowhere.
As the younger of the two placed his hand on the table, the three leftmost fingers of his left hand pointed out, Croaks leaned forward and turned his eyes to stare into Nina's. "Thing is, we sort of knew all that. I thought an info broker would pick up on the very visible equipment she has seen carried around here that we have not exactly scrounged it from the gutters. Even this babygirl in my lap, from those stores. So unless you've got something more to add, you might find your paycheck waaaaay more thin than you'd wanted. 'fter all, I don't see no reason to pay for things we already knew for a fact", he laid down the argument, demanding to know more before they discussed terms further. Ribby slowly balled his hand into a fist again and cocked his head to the side.
The question was, what would the woman have for them next. "Of course, if you know anything about the guy in the trench coat that came and told us about this in the first place, that'd be swell too. We are pretty sure he was a corporate guy of some sort and we were damn close to shooting his head off, but he had this air around him. Air that said that you mess with him and the gang goes poof. Possibly literally. You never know when the corps put 'splosives in their emissaries", Ribby would offer one way of earning one's pay, one that they probably had the most to learn about. But that meant it was just as unlikely for her to know. But if she did, well, they would be able to put in the cash for it, he at least hoped.
Croaks cracked his neck, taking a few seconds to rub the sore spot with his hand before saying just a few more words: "But yeah, if you have anything new then we do have what to pay you with. Let's just say we ended up a shipment short, so there's a lot of cash to draw from. Speak, and we answer in eurobucks." Should be convincing enough, he hoped. And if not, well, they had more guns here. She had tech on her. Rippers might pay a pretty penny, if she wouldn't turn out to be useful in any other way.
Right, that took much longer than I had expected. Anyhow, what I have in mind for something that could happen in the near future is them finding out some hints about the megacorporation who got involved with Lt. Davison's business. The people displeased with his little side earning scheme.
My suggestion is to actually keep the name Murkywater Security for the bunch, and if one has extra details they might know the man who brought the ultimatum to the officer himself. Or at least what the man looks like. Hints at the perfectly ordinary security corporation who in no way is a secret private military organisation with an extensive R&D department, not whatsoever. Their messenger would be a dark skinned man in a trench coat and a beanie, both bearing the corporation emblem as dimly embroidered decoration. Of course, this is but my suggestion, but I am rather fond of it. More corporations being involved wouldn't be too big of a wonder though. Especially a rival one protecting the officer is very much an option I've thought of.
Post to come tomorrow. I am very sorry for the delay.
And in that moment, it was over. The javelin pierced the body of the cultist who would scream into the air, his legs giving out from under him. Not far from dead, but very much conscious, bleeding on the ground. Breathing had suddenly become an immeasurably difficult task. And if it came to it, he had seen how these people had slain all of his brethren. They were brutal in their manner, and even someone of as strong a will as him would eventually cave to the demands they would bark at him. And then they would kill him, just like any of the others. The man turned onto his side and raised the machete he was holding against his stomach, slipping it between the leather armour and his skin. "For Tiamat's glory!" the man yelled, plunging the half-orc's machete into his abdomen. Beyond saving now, the man gurgled their last, an unexplainable grin on his blood coughing face.
Not all of the heroes were set on approaching immediately, however. Despite the half-orc eventually seeking to reobtain his weapon of choice, as well as anything else the cultist might hold on his person, but for now he was dashing after the horses. It seemed whatever he had been eating and drinking earlier in the day didn't take too kindly to that however, and he soon found himself out of breath. The animals had won this round. And with them, they would bring the knowledge of the cult's failure to them. Whether that was good or bad news for the heroes would be left to be determined. And likely not known by those heading for Greenest. They still had many hours of travel before them, though thanks to Kyra knowing the area better than the cult likely did, they would manage to avoid further attention.
Come the break of dawn, the rising sun painted the horizon in a much brighter colour behinf the keep of Greenest, no longer only a dot in the horizon but a very real place to reach. A few of the city guard were already out and about, poking through the few charred ruins among the still standing houses, no doubt seeking any signs of those believed missing, or perhaps valuables of the citizens the cult may have dropped in their haste. Whatever their task, many of them stopped briefly to greet the returning troupe, even Torus now in his human form, unable to hang on to the ursine shape for as long as the journey had taken.
Once they finally stepped inside the keep, they were greeted by nobody else but Escobert the Red himself, who would show them to the relative piece of the infirmary, so that any wounds could be seen to and that especially Leosin would not wander off on his own. And with several of his brotherhood present just as well, their master would be forced to stay, were it in his interests or not. Nonetheless, once everyone's wounds had been seen to, they were told there would likely be several hours before the Governor would be able to come and see them himself. Of course, most of this was an act. The heroes simply needed to rest, and like with many members of the guard, they were simply told this so that they would stay put.
Once the long nine hours would have passed and sun would now be shining on the keep from high above, the Governor would request the presence of the heroes on the main gate of the keep, at the scene where Brannor had taken on the threat of the half-dragon. "Heroes. There is no other word we can use for you at this point. We cannot know what would have come out of this all had you not been here to turn the tides, and now even to strike at the heart of the enemy themselves. While any tactical knowledge you may have obtained for potential greater military action, what you have already done is much beyond what we would expect from anyone not affiliated with our little frontier town", the man would speak, though with those words spoken he did realise they failed to address Kyra properly. Many of those present knew her too, and thus she would be welcome to a short paragraph of her own.
"But of course, our own priestess Kyra Shepard was with them all on this journey as well… and make no mistake, she is no less a hero than anyone else of them. In fact, as far as I see it her talent might well go to waste as a simple priestess, but time will tell whether that becomes the truth. Whether she will stay, or seek to bring light to the world in other ways." But with that said, the governor held an open hand out towards Escobert who would lift a heavy pouch onto it. "This is from all of us. From those who could give, and the prayers of those who were less disposed. Collected from those willing, and nobody else. Please, accept it for your deeds." Within the pouch, golden coins and small gems, as well as a ring decorated with semiprecious gems clinked against each other. This was the physical and monetary manifestation of the gratitude of those of Greenest.
After the grander ceremony, a few of the monks would approach the party still in the company of the governor and the castellan. "Excuse us, our master would like to speak with those who rescued him", they requested the presence of those who had just stood before the people. Governor Nighthill would nod at these words, though before sending the adventurers on their way, he mentioned one more detail. "And you, great knight. The matter of the splint mail has been seen to. A local blacksmith, shall we say, received a fair amount of materials and absolutely refuses any payment."
Orchid strips the Dragonclaw's corpse, retrieving his machete and javelin, as well as obtaining a set of leather armour and Dragonclaw's robes for his trouble.
The party returns to the keep of Greenest arriving close to daybreak and is granted the opportunity to pursue a long rest.
In the morning, Governor Nighthill sees to that they are paid two hundred pieces of gold (200 gp, for the whole party, not each) gathered from those that could spare it within the citizenry, all given willingly. He also has on good authority that a local smith has taken to refitting the splint mail for Brannor, and adamantly refused further payment apart from the Governor providing the raw materials.
Leosin seeks the party out through his fellow brothers, requesting to meet in the infirmary.
Oh, and I decided to forgo using colours in text. It is quite bothersome an operation, and I do hope the identity of the speaker is clear enough from context. If such a manoeuvre is not welcome, do voice said opinion and I will consider bringing it back.
You are welcome to have an IC talk on the way back. Whether you'll want to do it now or retroactively is all the same to me, though if you want to have it prior to the DM post you should inform me of that decision within the next ten hours or so. I can wait, especially so since I have still only received one update on the level up department. @Ryonara@Norschtalen@Lucius Cypher@Gordian Nought, how about your level threes?
Welcome to the Guild! I am sure you will find people of your desired level here. The next task is getting them to stay around, but that's something you have to do everywhere, isn't it?
Huh, I'll have to admit I was looking to receive more updated character sheets by now. And before I can really move you forward, I do need that roll @Lucius Cypher. If I don't have it by tomorrow afternoon, I'll be rolling it for you and writing the results accordingly to not delay things further.
