Absolute failure.

Just the thought alone was enough to cause Eila to bristle. She had never failed anything in her twenty three years of life! What a first impression to make, Father would be mortified. Her mother would be so disappointed. Even her auntie would give her a 'tut' and a shake of the head. She needed to get herself together, as while her old reputation wouldn't come to play, she had to make a better impression as an adventurer. After exhaling a breath of both frustration and a feeble attempt at calming herself, the elf nodded solemnly in response to Cerric's words. All was not lost yet, her embarrassment was punishment enough and dwelling on it for too long would reflect poorly on her.

She gave the pair another bow. "I understand. Accept my sincerest apologies once again," She apologized once again before straightening up, though she did remember to stoop down and grab her bag. She tried to keep her chin raised as she placed her bag on the wagon, taking her bow and slinging it over her arm. She hadn't the time to equip her quiver but she could do it now, looping it onto her belt quickly.

At that point, Kyreth greeted her. "The same to you, my friend." She gave him what she hoped was a cheery smile, though she was happy he was still wearing her cloak. Good, he deserved a little luxury after their day. She was a little surprised to see him here, but she would make sure she was absolutely ready before she would approach him. With dagger concealed and her quiver properly looped, she plucked her bowstring once to make sure she hadn't damaged it in her rush.

Ceolfric volunteered to take the front. Eila wasn't entirely sure what the rest were capable of, but she thought it best if the others were sandwiched between. If she took the rear, she could support on all sides, and her aether sensing would help make sure they wouldn't get ambushed.

"I will take the rear, then," She volunteered.

As she walked, the whisper hit her. Ceolfric was more talented than she had assumed, though to think they were both Animas Aetherborn was certainly a coincidence. She had no idea what he spoke of, but she assumed it was important, so she listened carefully. She could do without that arrogance, but if he was giving information, she supposed it was best to do as he said.

She did, however, catch that gaze, and immediately decided that he was insufferable.

Of all the days to oversleep why did today have to be one of those days?!

Eila blamed her choice of rest; as she was no longer under her mother's wings and had to pay for her own lodging, she thought it would be best to settle for the lesser of choices, no matter how...quaint the other seemed. However, while at the other place she had been woken with a timely knock, here she was left to her own devices. And while she typically rose with the sun, today was different for whatever reason. She blamed the noise wholly as she hadn't slept when she desired. Why people would get so rowdy at those hours was beyond her!

Whatever the case was, Eila had to wrangle herself out of bed and had hoofed it out of the inn. She had to ignore food for now--another issue that had nearly left her starving for the next few days had Kyreth not pointed out that she would be responsible for her own meals--and the growling of her stomach as she ran through the town. Oh, what a sight--her hairpin was likely hanging onto her hair for dear life, her knuckles white as they held onto her bag. She must have apologized more than a dozen times to those she narrowly missed colliding with.

Eventually, the carriage was in sight, and by the time Eila reached the group, she was completely out of breath. It served her right to look the part of a fool, gasping and wheezing for breath without a chance to utter any excuse for her shameful behavior. Still, it would be rude not to at least try to apologize. "I--I...I am...Please forgive the--goodness," She could hardly string a sentence together, her bag on the ground as she tried to focus on regaining some air in her lungs.

After a few moments of catching her breath, she scooped her bag off the ground, shaking her head as her cheeks reddened. She bowed her head in shame. "I beg you for a thousand pardons for such tardiness, it will not happen again," She hastily put together a rather clumsy apology, though it was hard to ignore the slight ache of her shoulder. Goodness, she would need to reconsider her options if she was going to be this careless!

Chase Dion

TOO EARLY | KAMAKURA | GENJIYAMA PARK

Bless Lucian, he made this mission bearable.

It was charming to watch the model in familiar territory. Like a fluttering moth to a bright light, he made a beeline to where he thought he should be, not where he actually needed to go. There was a small, inconsequential thought in his head that said he should be guiding the gorgeously dim young man, but if he was being completely honest with himself, Chase adored Lucian. And by that he meant that he absolutely loved watching this guy go in circles until he could figure out what he actually needed to do. It was hilarious to watch and endlessly entertaining.

Chase barely held back a laugh as Lucian told the wrong dude that they were there to reap him. He had to pat his shoulder, making no effort to hide his grin. "It's a good thing you're pretty, bud," He said as he gently pulled him back once Maya took over.

He had no intention of piping up any further--anything else he had to add would be redundant at this point. He did, however, give Maya an incredulous look as she actually dismissed the elephant in the room. Why the hell wouldn't she follow up on that? Sure, he was a little on the new side, but even he figured that core was not where it should be.

"Also where did you get that earring?" Chase ended up adding, flicking the ear where WhatsHisFace had the weapon core hanging from--and coincidentally, where his own core was.

Stifling a small yawn, Chase had nothing of importance to add to the conversation. He might've if he had been paying any attention, but that required effort and it was too early for that. Why were they out here so early again? Even spirits had to realize that there were better things to do at this time. Maybe if he wasn't so sore he might've been more open to these early missions, but he supposed it was for...something. He didn't recall much of the debriefing, either, though considering the team, he was sure to be reminded one way or another.

Rubbing his neck, Chase forced himself to listen into Whats-His-Face's rambling about...some gifted dude. Is that what they were looking for? The sooner they finished, the sooner Chase could go home and nap--unless he still had company over. He was usually good at shooing away people before breakfast, but they had to get here early so he didn't get the chance. Well, he supposed he wouldn't entirely mind a repeat of last night. So long as that one chick didn't do that weird tongue thing, she could ride him just fine but she had this weird tendency to open her mouth and wag her tongue around, it wasn't as sexy as she thought it was. He didn't like trashy girls, though her ass was so fine he didn't pay much attention to her personality. Then again, she was the consolation prize, he really wanted that cute bartender but he kept complaining about working late and...

Wait, what was he thinking about before?

Chase closed his eyes, letting out a slight hum and he knelt down to the ground. Alright, find the gifted dude, get things done, and then go home. Easy. He muttered something under his breath, holding back another yawn before opening his now glowing eyes. The world around him was no longer as it was, instead it was draped in near-complete darkness. Anything living or dead was barely illuminated, but he wasn't interested in any of those as he looked around. He did, however, show more interest in a glowing individual--there was the man of the hour.

He shook his head as the spell ended, blinking a few times to let his eyes adjust to the light difference. Standing up straight, he stretched his arms above his head, letting them drop as he turned to the rest of the crew. "Southwest is the way," He stated. "Let's go find him quick, got a warm bed calling my name."

Michail had never been so proud of Auberon. While he could feel both Euphemia and Lavender's looks of disproval, he had the utmost confidence in the Lion. Both Jorah and Auberon could keep the ponytailed idiot busy while the rest of them could ensure that the enemy wouldn't get the jump on them. One wyvern rider was down, but he'd bet his next pay that there were more waiting.

No sooner had the thought crossed his mind that another emerged. Unlike before, though, this one was charging at them. Michail found his spear fending off the wyvern's jaws as he was pushed back. Celeste let out a shriek of surprise, having been knocked over by Michail. Both Derec and Isolde looked to her, though neither could help as a pair of soldiers had decided to attack them as well.

Meanwhile, the eyepatched bandit was amused by Auberon. He seemed to recognize his strike. "Oh? Didn't you promise me an audience with the Goddess?" He asked, giving a small 'tut' of disappointment. "You're much too green to be writing checks your mouth can't keep, aren't you boy? This is how you swing an axe!"

He brought his weapon up with a tight grip and employed what could only be described as wild, powerful strikes. Anything the axe hit would likely be sliced to ribbons--not to speak of what would happen should it connect to any flesh.

The chaos of battle was not a foreign one.

What was supposed to be a simple rescue mission quickly turned into a fight for survival. The enemy saw vulnerable, inexperienced children and they had little choice but to stand their ground. He could already hear Sirius berating them on their failure. He only hoped Michail and the others were having an easier time, but it was unlikely that they could be counted on for rescue. He couldn't rely on his Crest either--though the lack of one of their students caught him off guard. He looked in the direction where Rudolf was sensed last, but he was as good as gone. The only solace was that things weren't as hopeless as they seemed, as their enemy clearly underestimated them.

Meanwhile, Veronica kept her eyes on the sky. At Kellen's sighting, she let loose two arrows. The first missed, but the second hit its mark. The man scarcely let out any sound as the arrow had found his neck, and he fell off the pegasus. She was shocked--somehow, she wasn't expecting to actually kill him, for some reason. At Clarissa's call, she realized that the Eagle was nowhere to be found.

"Here I assumed he would've been cowering at our ankles," She couldn't help but note.

At Lienna's call, Tomai looked. At that moment, the fog began to fade--it looked like the slumped over mage had been the source of the spell. Lucky. "Everyone, we need to move forward and regroup with the advanced team, I'm more than certain they've also gotten ambushed" He ordered, a glyph quickly forming in front of him. With its release, a surge of thunderbolts littered the area surrounding them, clearing the way ahead and giving them space to breathe. "Go get him and catch up with us!" He urged Kaira.

He wasn't quite finished yet. Turning to Kellen, he held out his staff once more. "Tell Michail we need help and that we have to regroup," He told him, a glyph appearing under Kellen and spiriting him away without giving the poor boy a chance to respond.

The green haired girl nodded. Without any hesitation, she ran over to one of the fallen soldiers and took their sword. She made sure to know where Rudolf was before breaking into a full sprint. One soldier that hadn't been struck by Tomai's spell met his unfortunate end with a quick slice from Kaira's sword, and she followed Rudolf's route.

Unfortunately, the other mages took note of the shaking boy. As one decided to go after him, Kaira held her hand out as she cast a familiar spell. Rudolf would find himself suddenly pulled off the roof, though he would land safely next to her. Her heart splintered at seeing his state, but she couldn't comfort him here. "Get up, we need to return to the others," She told him, pulling him to his feet.
