Juliet Park is not a person who likes surprises. She never has been! Surprise birthday parties, jump scares in movies, surprise twists in movies… they tend to make her anxious or cranky… and the announcement from their parents that they were having another baby. Who was a surprise. was no different than any other surprise. In fact, it was even worse, because it came with sudden, extreme ramifications: Juliet had to share a room with her sister.

A master at getting her way, Juliet manipulated this as best she could for both her sister and herself… and the end result is they got to steal the master bedroom from their parents — they’d be gone before they knew it anyway! Their parents' room was on the top floor, what if mom needed medical assistance!? — and, more importantly, she and Daisie deserved a Keurig machine. Think of all the good they did for the family! It wasn’t easy, being the eldest siblings in a family this large, and now it was being made even more large!

Juliet never suspected the bastards would make them pay for their own k-cups. She gives her parents the respect they deserve for outplaying her, but she’s nonetheless unhappy about it. Between that, her sister not wanting to go to Disneyland for Christmas, Juliet is | | this close to losing it.

She has to keep it together though, because her parents have been pulling the noose tighter and tighter, and are trying to give herself and her sister just enough rope to hang themselves — and it’s nearly worked on Daisie. Juliet won’t have it, though, and by the end of the year — or so, she’s gonna see what she can squeeze out for a graduation present — they’ll be shipped off to college to try and make it on their own.

There are many stories about heroes and villains, tragic love stories, light vs dark, good vs evil, exciting tales of action… the tale of Meadow Ridge Institute is…

not one of those.

Outside of being a boarding school, Meadow Ridge Institute isn’t a special school. It’s not a school filled with geniuses, or super star athletes. In fact, most students at Meadow Ridge are shockingly average… despite this, Meadow Ridge is a surprisingly popular school, with students applying from all walks of life all parts of the country, not just from the city across the lake.

The students live in dormitories on the school grounds, in two multistory buildings separated by gender, and each floor housing a different school year. There are three classes for each year, and each one has no more than six students (though some have less!). 1-A, 1-B, 1-C and so on and so forth for the four different years of school. The first years are located at the top, and the fourth years are at second floor — with the first being a common room.

Each class has a class representative, tasked with ensuring that their class keeps their rooms tidy, does their work, and follows curfews and lights out times. Students have homeroom in the morning, and then a second, looser homeroom — more of a study hall — in the evening before class is over at three thirty. Curfew is seven thirty PM, and lights out is ten PM.

During their free time, students are welcome to roam the expansive grounds, exploring small caves, a rather vast forest, or floating down the river that cuts through the grounds and bleeds into the lake. There is a library that is always open for students who prefer to spend their free time studying or reading in peace and quiet, and the gym and other athletic facilities are almost always made available.

The story of Meadow Ridge Institute is one of a simple, ordinary school… made extraordinary by the students who attend.

Henry has it pretty easy, and he recognizes that. He grew up in an extremely wealthy family in California, and rarely wanted or needed anything. He coasted through high school, and continued to coast through college, where he obtained — mostly through luck and making sure he worked his projects with the determined kids — a Bachelor’s Degree in Macroeconomics (it’s proudly kept in a box somewhere back in California). Henry’s plan then was to collect a check from his parents every month, and wait for them to die so he could collect an inheritance and move on with his life. That all changed when he pissed his mother off for the last time.

Henry now quietly collects a check and doesn’t talk to his parents. It’s an arrangement both parties are satisfied with.

What brought you to Santa Clara?:

Henry is, more or less, in Santa Clara to be hidden from the public eye, or at least as hidden as Henry Green can be.

Throughout his life, Henry has had a ‘bad habit’ of doing what’s wrong, according to his mother. Henry either doesn’t realize, doesn’t ‘get it’,’ or he just plain doesn’t care about the fact that his life is — or was — scrutinized because of his family name. Henry had a habit for embarrassing his mother, from behavior at dinner parties, to the way he seemed to get driving tickets every day of his life, Henry was constantly on thin ice from the moment he turned fifteen.

During his high school years, Henry’s mom was able to cover for him, but once he hit college even she couldn’t stop his mother from bringing the hammer down on Henry. It was always ‘Henry this, Henry that.’ Henry seemed to not care, and he made it to a college graduation his mother chose not to attend in protest. Henry’s behavior, she hoped, would shape up after that.

It didn’t.

At Henry’s graduation party, Henry met and partied with a cute girl in a long list of cute girls he’d met and partied with in his life, and two days later an article was published in various tabloids documenting how much of a fuckhead, alcoholic, druggie he is. That was the final straw.

Henry is now on detention. The rich white kid version of it anyway. He has to live with roommates, so that sucks. He wakes up, he eats, he drinks, he goes to sleep. He at least doesn’t party quite as hard anymore, so his mother succeeded in that.
