Hot dogs are already cooked. Might as well just sear them to add flavor.

If you take college seriously, it opens doors. Harvard and Hopkins makes it easier, but you can do well anywhere.

Prefer to brainstorm on Discord for that reason.

@Penny I was thinking of that entirely, actually, re: communication being carried entirely by ships along their routes. Also, in regards to tech, did humanity suffer periods where star systems lost contact with each other due to regression/progression of tech and would that account for barbarian groups vs. civilization? I basically am wondering if there are pockets of humanity that develop new technologies that are ahead of the curve of the larger powers, especially with such a distributed population and limited communications, it means development of tech in silos with limited sharing of data.

Beyond that, what sort of weaponry is envisioned? Do land forces have a role, such as detachments of naval infantry as a boarding force or otherwise, and are there small craft undertaking strike operations? Are the larger ships themselves able to operate in atmosphere or are shuttles required to move people onto planets?

Anyway, sure, I'm interested.
Also, is interstellar communication tied to naval ships or other couriers passing though systems?

Headcanon seconded!

Sorry I haven't posted lately. Work got nuts. I have to go in a few hours earlier for the rest of June to deal with projects. But I'll try to post in the near future!

Welcome to my life. Monday I was wondering what I would be doing this week, by today, I'm going, "Shit, I wish I had more time."
I'm interested in this, especially with the take that interstellar communication and travel mandate a more loose hegemony than an imperial model. What I'm wondering if the characters are the crew of a ship in a task force, what is their overall mission and what sort of options would exist for having political impact on the setting? For example, diplomacy with barbarians and potentially forging other alliances.

I mean, you say Peloponnesian War, and I think "Philip of Macedon" a few decades later. I'd definitely like to explore the dynamics here.

Also, what is the structure of the military? Highly professional or is there some element of patrician/wealthy citizen service along with commission purchase? It seems like exploration for potential resources through naval service as an officer, would there be an element of commercial gain to Naval service in this regard, such as the discovery of new resources for government/companies through system survey and exploration?

Adding it into my headcanon-- The Unicorns have a roller derby team. It just looks like a random collection of people that would never associate with one another ever, since Stella's the "last one" but, they dominate the hell out of roller derby.
The Strangetown Stranglers.
Stella's totally on the team too.

That makes sense; in the 90's, maybe they'll expand out to ultimate frisbee or something.

Also, there should be a playlist for this RP. I mean, 70's and 80's music, what can go wrong?
Speaking as a publisher's kid, I think it's important to look at your news source and say, "How many sources do they have? Are they verifying their work? Do they run retractions?"

So I don't touch TV media; it's too visual and visceral. I prefer the written word. Blocking and tackling journalism is all about verifying sources with a healthy respect for wanting to get the story right, not satisfy a consumer demographic. We're also in an era where you can be varied in your media intake, but need to be wary of outlets that pose as real journalism, but have an unvarnished political agenda.

If you want to see why TV can't hang, just watch Megyn Kelly softball Vladimir Putin. They're too scared to ask questions because they're wedded to access journalism. Circling back around to CNN, it's mostly dumb talking heads, and now they're adding dumb talking heads to talk against the original crop of dumb talking heads because they think dumb talking heads in conflict will add to ratings. Maybe they're right, but it goes way away from what made CNN famous and dominant in its heyday, which was camera footage on the scene.

It's gotten to the point where they run "THE BIG GRAPHIC" and "THE DRAMATIC MUSIC." I roll my eyes and start thinking of Ralph Steadman's artwork.

All that disco love. There will totally be some sort of series of events that compel them to go to a hair rock concert. Or maybe a hardcore show.

Edit: And something involving a roller rink.

Challenge presented to the World Eaters: Two formerly cowardly PDF members forcefully possessed by a pair of daemons.

Secondary Challenge for all marines: There is a pskyer somewhere in the building able to implant daemons in the defenders, on top of Emperor knows what else.

Have fun.

Good timing, the squad Prodigal is about to engage is going to mutate drastically.
Without Remorse

The patrols and the people running from the Chateau along the access road leading out were the problem of Prodigal Son and his fellow Luna Wolves, as they thought of themselves. Who they were, why they were there, whether or not they were innocent or guilty, it didn't matter. With the savage cunning of his legion, they laid the next trap for the next patrol and fell upon them with fist and knife, eschewing the more powerful weapons as unnecessary. They collected wargear in this fashion, grenades mostly, though one of the brothers took up a flamer, hooking the backpack a normal human would wear to his power armour's belt, as a prize from the fighting.

The other prize was the enemy's comm systems, which Prodigal Son himself patched into his helmet's systems. That allowed him to track the last patrol, even as he took note of the time; the assault would begin soon.

Three patrols down, and they used their autosenses and their own hearing and sight to try to locate more prey in the hunt. Once the noise started, he unlimbered his bolter and others did the same, for the time was past when they'd need such a thing. The last group were headed toward the conflagration of the Chateau; they were alert and aware, and there wouldn't be an easy opportunity to close with them, especially as they headed for the enclosure where the Rhinos were...
@Atrophy I can't wait for CC to show up at the place and find everybody expecting a Mummy messenger demanding loyalty XD

"Oh look, it's the last guy's tax man!"

We'll need to figure out how that actual loyalty-demanding flunky will show. I don't imagine it would be during broad daylight, but then...

I've got it.
