Today was supposed to be the last day of the monster design contest. Was. Due to our whopping number of 0 submissions, we've decided to extend the deadline until 10:00 PM PST on Sunday! We're really looking forwards to seeing some of your designs!

So far, we've had Felicity/Korrey, Regis/Monty, Talia/Leo, and Nancy/Nathaniel gone up and finished their ceremonies, and Marth/Liliac are on the podium now, with one free.

Minor Announcement

Klaykid has dropped. They notified me via PM and let me know that life has gotten hectic for them, and they didn’t want to hold the RP up. We wish them the best in life and in their role-plays.

Saskia Mochizuki Review

For starters, your character’s height. This is a trend I wanna stop right now, but 4’10” for a 16 year old girl? You realize how unusual that is, right? To put it in plain terms, 4’9” is the average height for a 10-year old boy. The average height for a 16 year old girl is 5’3”. If you could make your character’s height more plausible and bring us back from the brink of having Extremely Tall Boys and Extremely Tiny Girls, that would be much appreciated.

Next up, this is something we didn’t make very clear, and that’s on us, but a Mages and Familiars general don’t manifest their magic/ability until 12-14. Some don’t have it manifest until after they first bond with their partner. So your character prepping to be a Mage at a young age like 5-10 doesn’t make a lot of sense, in this context, when she could turn out to be a Familiar.

Also, Mage is not a profession. Mage is a person who has the ability to use magic. It’s something you’re born with and can’t change or erase. That would be, in this world, as strange as saying “I wanna be white when I grow up!” Pretty strange, right? That’s how it is in this universe. Mage and Familiars is simply the classification of people who can use magic, and people who can’t.

Next up, for both her parents to be untrained is rather strange. Even in public education, Mages and Familiars get some training. Untrained would mean their their powers could manifest randomly, which would be dangerous. While they wouldn’t get the same intensity or depth of training as St. Fortuna’s, they would still get some training.

Also… Where did the snakes come from? They’re mentioned once in the quiz, but nowhere else. This is the second incident of pets who appear once, but nowhere else and have no impact on the character. The Twilight Pets. Schrodinger’s Snakes. Please elaborate on them.

In sum, your character needs some work, but isn’t unworkable. Put them on the stretching rack, clear up the stuff with the mages and the parents, and tell us where the snakes are. After that, we’d be happy to review your character again. :)

Mikayla Iovine Review

A couple issues we have noticed.
First off, her father’s income is never specified. What does he do? What is his job? He apparently sacrifices a lot to give them the illusion of wealth, but why? We need to know his job and what he does to make sense of this.

Next up, this is a big question. Why does your character want to go to St. Fortuna’s? It’s a very expensive school, and the equivalent of $30,000 a year isn’t easy to come up with. It’s very prestigious, true, but if she has poor grades and a bad attitude and her father is concerned about their finances, surely it would make more sense to send her to a less expensive school? There’s not a lot of motives here, beyond that of a man desperate to give his daughter everything. But I want to know about Mikayla’s motives. So far, her history is more about her father than about her. There’s nothing to say how she developed this personality, if she’s had issues with back stabbers before, or how she views her father. I’d like to see more about Mikayla’s thought, motives, and her personal history. There’s not even a city she’s from. It’s the details that help build a character’s bio. Don’t skimp on it.

To sum, it’s a good character, but it needs a little more exposition and detail to make our passing grade. To fix these issues, give her father a job, rationalize why the character wants to go to St. Fortuna’s, and add more detail and perspective to the Bio. Once these changes have been made, we’ll be happy to review your character again. :)

@Raijinslayer Yeah, the rule is one monster for every contestant. Otherwise that would make things unfair. Participation in the contest is voluntary, not mandatory, and ya’ll have 3 days to make your monsters. I’m excited to see what you guys can make!

Also, monsters that win WILL be featured in the monster hunting class, and may appear in other areas too!
