Well, this is definitely surprising, but in the best possible way.

...why do all the potentially fun looking RP's have to crop up at the same time?

I'll throw my interest in, even though I probably shouldn't. I think I'll probably try and go for the ever so fun Berserker archetype.

Ahem, anyways~

What about non-humans? Or is everyone human here? To be honest, it'd be very fun if we could get a little creative with the races like in Overlord. Of course, that's just my preference. Humans are boring, yo xP

Expanding on that, how free are we able to get with the classes? Say, I wanted to play a Berserker with magical abilities or something such? Would something like that eventually be achievable? Not saying I am - might go for a pure mage/spellsword of some sort.
I'm still contemplating on that idea. So for now, your only choice is playing a boring human.

For the classes, you have to explore in-game to find the quest line for job changes; I'll be guiding you so you won't just be running in circle. As for abilities, you gain them in a variety of ways. Constantly punching stuff will allow you to learn punch-specific skills, bartering constantly may give you move similar to that of a merchant, reading a tomb or scroll may teach you a spell, accomplishing a quest may reward you with a skill. And the list goes on and on.

Does that mean Conjuration falls under Cleric skills and won't be accessible to Mages? Now that I've looked over the other posts, it seems people are going for magic users. Was interested in making a Cleric character that's scared shitless by the thought of potentially dying, but I'm also curious about Tinkers. @Jabber are they sort of like cybernetics or is their tech more steampunky?
For mages, yes. If they advance in their job, they may gain access to summons. Initially, Tinkers would create steam-punky and clockwork-like constructs and inventions. Don't expect on creating robots just yet. Cybernetics may be an option, but again, that's something for an advance job class.

@Savo Sorry, but as of now, I wanna limit a 1 character per player policy.

@Jedly You got that right! I was so surprised to see that the thread has reached its 4th page. Not complaining though!

@Volenvradica I'm sorry, but I gotta be the bearer of bad news. I was gonna do stats. :(

Since you guys requested it, here we go! Here's the CS; make sure to at least follow the format. I don't mind if you flare it up a bit. Regarding the stats, I'm still thinking of some alternatives on how we'll deal with this, but for now, this is what we have.

Also, I decided to include a Gameplay Section in the OP.

@Leoven Finally, someone posted! I was trying my best to avoid double posting. Here's the character classes. Feel free to ask if you've got any questions.

Character Classes

@malmshodes Nah, not really. I just want my participants to know where I'm getting some of my ideas from. No biggie.
@Demous Yeah, I decided to make another RP instead so that my ideas won't be conflicting. Pure fantasy stays here while the rest goes to the VRMMORPG RP.
@Demous Uhh, yeah.
UPDATES

So far guys, this is all I have for now. I'll continue to update the OP, so stay tuned! Feel free to comment, suggest, and express you ideas in the thread! No good though is left underappreciated!

Prologue Chapter - A Familiar Place

The goblin made an ear-splitting screech as Rien’s sword slashes across its chest, and its body seemed to shatter like glass. Where its body should’ve been, there was instead a small black marble which Rien picked up. The words “level up” flashed briefly across his screen before he swiped it away and opened up his character profile.

“Wow, this is unreal! Or I guess it’s…too real? I mean, everything is so realistic!” Blue exclaimed beside him. By now had been playing online games with her for almost three years, and had grown accustomed to her excitable personality. Weird personality aside, Rien had to admit that she was a lot better looking than he had expected. Unlike other games, AO did not allow players to fully customize their avatar appearance, as the LexNav headgear that was used to play the game utilized a facial recognition scan making characters mimic their player’s real life appearance. Rien ignored Blue’s commentating and scrolled through his level up window.

“Unspent stat points…three. Only three per level? All this time and they still haven’t changed it…Lexis is as stingy as usual I guess.” Rien complained out loud. Though he wouldn’t admit it, Rien had been waiting with unbridled anticipations for this game’s release since it was announced a year before. Elements Online was his first ever online game, and he had only fond memories of it from his childhood. Though back then he was able to work around the game’s age limit security, he had heard that Lexis had made that impossible for this game.

And nostalgia aside, the game was well worth the wait. Rien watched as another goblin charged at Blue. It was fast, the AI in AO was a vast improvement over its predecessor, which made a good accompaniment for the game’s other realistic features. Blue was faster, though and clubbed the goblin on its forehead with the rim of her shield. He made their signature screeching sound and chopped at her again, but she ducked his cleaver, swept her sword low and caught him full in the calf, just below his ragged shirt’s flapping hem. This time, the blow was enough and the goblin’s body shattered into dust.

“Ahaha, come face me you ugly green ballon headed freaks!” She yelled at them. There were no other players around, so Rien took it upon himself to be embarrassed for her.

It took the duo about half an hour to finish the beginner’s quest. Rien’s sword slashed through the final goblin’s neck and he reached out and grab the black marble it left behind. “Alright, we finished. Let’s hurry back to Sanctuary and receive our reward before all the monster zones become occupied-“

Rien’s words were cut short as the ‘sky’ above him darkened to a blood red color. A large screen appeared over head, and on it was a man wearing a dark cloak, his face hidden behind a dark hood.

“Greetings adventurers, I am the Dark Lord!” the figure on the screen’s deep voice echoed across the server.

“Pffft. Did you hear that Rien? He called himself a Dark Lord? Hahaha!” Blue tittered next to him.

“What’s this, some sort of launch day event?” Rien asked her. She shrugged and shook her head.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to your new home. Some of you may have noticed by now that you are unable to log out of the game. This is not a bug…”

“Tch, what like some anime? What a lame joke,” Rien frowned.

“But don’t be scared, dear adventurers! Think of this like a new beginning! A way to escape from that wretched old world forever!”

“Rien…” Blue tugged at his sleeve. “Look at the game menu!”

“What are you-“ but it was obvious what she was trying to show him. Just as the hooded man claimed, the log out button was greyed out. He tried pressing it several times, but nothing happened.

“Until we meet again, my friends!” the man’s final words echoed across the world before the video feed was cut and the sky returned to normal.

“Rien…what do we do now?”

“I…” Rien looked at her eyes. She was scared and confused, and not really trying to hide it. “I don’t know.”

Character Sheet

Just wondering guys, would you prefer to make this somewhat similar to SAO, Overlord, and Log Horizon? We won't do stats like numbers but just a list of what your character is capable of.
@Masaki HarunaTo be fair, that old-man was powerful beyond measure. If you guys start with a 97-year old, you'd just have arthritis and osteoporosis.

Uhhhmmm. Thanks?

And about pleasure-based magic, I won't say no but we gotta work it out a bit before it becomes somewhat acceptable.
@Shadow Daedalus
  • Limits to powers? I like to think I'm fairly reasonable, but just in case. What are no-go territory? Magic which is going to be accessible to you guys early on would be fairly simple. Let's say you start out with some sort of fire magic, you'll only be allowed to do one thing with it aside from conjuring flames. So maybe something like shooting it out in a ball of fire or maybe creating a sword made of fire? No go territories would include anything that can be considered imbalanced. Basically, it would really depend. Time manipulation wouldn't be banned, but that would depend on what kind of ability you're planning to still have.
  • Ages? I can't imagine a 7 year old going on missions, or a 97 year old. Good point. Probably around 13-18. I plan to make the guild a place for the young. Somewhere they can develop their magical capabilities and individual skills.
  • Geography/History?. I've got some ideas but nothing concrete yet. Once we get some more people, I wanted to make world building somewhat of a group thing.
  • How widespread is magic? Does everyone have it, or is it a common but selective type where Mages are widely recognized but not as common as non-mages? I'll say its pretty common, but not everyone is trained to use it. So most people can only do simple things with magic. Given my previous example of shooting out fireballs, that would be simple magic. To make it more complex, instead of shooting it out, one can create multiple fireballs of various sizes that rotate around the caster in an axis to protect him/her from incoming attacks.

Hopefully, my answers were satisfactory.
@Darkmoon Angel That sounds nifty. I'll put that down as a consideration.
