@Ammokkx There goes my dream of being the funny guy in a business suit
people who watch yugioh in general have made poor life choices

What kind of people GM a yughioh rp?
So yeah, look at us all waiting for somthin we can respond to.

I think we gotta decide if we use ante, and if there are special cards. Those are gonna affect what kind of story this'll be, probably.

I'm staying as a hard no against both of those options, I don't really see them as fun and giving up your cards from a duel seems like an incentive to cheat, or at least be salty if you lose
-Atem was looking for his memories
-Jounouchi wanted to prove he was worthy of holding Red-Eyes by becoming a true duelist
-Mai was fighting to prove she was an independently strong duelist and didn't need to rely on Yugi's support network
-Bakura wants to obtain the Millenium items
-Marik wants to kill Atem
-Rishid follows Marik
-Ishizu wants Marik to not kill Atem
-Kaiba just wants to flex on Atem

  • 2 duelists wanted to prove themselves (ma boi Jou and Mai).
  • 6 are doing/want to do something.

    • 2 want to get something
    • 4 are doing shit around Atem

ngl I get what you mean but the examples from yugioh ain't really that character inspiring.
imo having this kind of easter egg hunt for strong cards might force a lot of us to write similar characters, like "whats to be the king of kings". It's not like there's a lot of unique reasons a person might want to collect these kind of cards.

And it's not like we need an all-encompassing story, we could have a lot of smaller stories for a couple of characters each and occasionally an overarching plot pulls y'all together.
but that ain't really suggesting ideas for a plot...
Oh we're votin?

  • +0 vote scripted duels.
  • -1 vote for point buy (same reason as the rabbit)
  • -1 vote for Super special magic cards (ya boi just wants to play that sweet sweet card game)
  • +1 vote for cultural appropriation (imo it ain't duel monsters without this).
I'm more into the idea of playing the sort of underdog type like others have mentioned, and would probably try to play more of a niche card set without the intent of winning but to just sort of exist in the world.

B- Bro?

"card of destiny"

You talking about when someone clutches a win through god-tier luck?
Ass-blast them into oblivion.

Hot. Just say when'n'where.

@Ammokkx Ohhh I actually like the look of your scripted duel.. but how do you manage if someone vanishes mid-duel? It looks like that method suffers the same issue as collaborations- they're bottle-necked to the speed of both writers.

how would you feel about a looser system? as in players decide how they determine the duel before it happens. That way if two people prefer improv they can improv, while others can plan beforehand if they prefer that instead?

I might be a bit biased though, since I prefer playing the underdog and losing more often than not. So I can't imagine why anyone would 'cheat' per se.
Since we're slowly going crazy I thought, "Why not go all the way?".

I'm considering running an rp to waste our newfound spare time. Where the characters are finding things to do, to prevent boredom during social distancing... Sound familiar?
Characters may be long-time friends, enemies, or complete strangers; yet what connects them all is a chat-forum they all share.

I'm currently not thinking of an overarching story, honestly I don't think this rp would need one. Instead I'll be writing several shorter stories or events for characters to take part in, maybe someone needs help completing a quest in an MMO? What if someone is in the mood for virtual golf?
Of course if anyone has ideas for events feel free to plan them out and get them running! I guess this'll be a sandbox rp.

I'm not looking for long posts or dedicated players, this idea mainly came about to vent my frustration from the quarantine without having to be trapped in some kind of post-cycle. As such feel free to post when you want, on your own terms. Just.. Don't dip mid story when you're supposed to retrieve the McGuffin.

TL;DR
- RP Inception
- Sandbox
- Profit????
