@Kaggs@Inkarnate Since someone else is leaning towards the best friend character I think I'm going to go with that younger brother idea which means if y'all go with what you said you're going with we'd be familia. How much collaboration with character-building would y'all wanna do?

As we're both writing a self-destructive kind of black sheep I'd love to work out the dynamic of how the solemn attitude of the father contributed to the son and his rebellious nature.

I agree with Ink though, Andy was the first to make it- that doesnt mean none of us couldn't have since his departure, I'd be surprised if not one sibling had a stangle job or satisfying like or some sorts, but that might go to the Mom if nobody taker her/Mao is okay with her as an npc?

My idea for the father so far is someone out of work for the last few years, maybe half a decade at most. Too prideful to take a smaller job he spends his days waiting for the job agency to call, day drinking, day sleeping and burning through his savings. He'd be in his late 50s to 60s around this time, so there'd be pressure to retire officially, but he doesn't have the money, and again he's too prideful to rely on his children.
Well thats what I imagine he'll be doing before Andy returns.

We could make a group pm if we need to discuss easily without clogging the ooc.

@Inkarnate I was thinking of playing Andy's dad, who became a deadbeat, alcoholic in the wake. He'll be bitter over the success his ex-wife found after the death and he resents his inability to do anything more drink and shout now, after his son dies he becomes an embarrassment to the family and I want to write him like that, sad, loud, impulsive and arrogant.

What if you removed the mentors from two incredibly flawed former sidekick characters and had them team up and go around the country fighting crime? Well, you would get this take on the Outlaws that I've whipped up. A huge part of Jason Todd's arc as the Red Hood has always been rooted in revenge and pain. Beaten within an inch of his life and managing to survive, Jason takes on a new mantle and enacts bloody revenge on criminals. Roy Harper, on the other hand, is a grounding and inherently funny character. He's always trying to prove that he's a hero despite his past actions and his very, very serious character flaws. These two characters have had their own comics run as a duo, and they work well in the setting of a world much like our own. One in which a country is torn, divided, and in need of unconventional heroes.

Jason Todd, in this iteration, was a CIA operative. He was a poor orphan from the streets of Gotham who wanted to make something of himself... so he took every opportunity he could to become someone. He started out doing simple intelligence gathering when he was recruited by the CIA, learning the arts of infiltration and close quarters combat. His skillset saw him recruited by the elusive group known as Team 7, a U.S. Black Ops team tasked with keeping the world "safe" from all threats. He's been with Team 7 until a fateful event six months ago while infiltrating the League of Assassins (where he had further honed his skills). He was sold out by a member of the League, and taken to a warehouse in Vlatava. There, he was beaten with a crowbar within an inch of his life by an unknown assailant wearing a red hoodie and a simple black mask. He was left for dead, with a simple message: Vertigo sends their regards. Since then, he was discharged from service in Team 7 after psych evaluations have found him to be too vengeful and unstable for active service.

Roy Harper's past is a lot simpler. He was a kid who, from a very young age, had impeccable aim. He learned of his skills in handling a rifle and a bow and arrow at a young age at a Boy Scout camp in rural Oklahoma. He was so good, in fact, that he started to compete in local competitions. Hell, he even became a small legend in the circle of competitive archery, even being slated to compete in the 2012 Olympic Games on behalf of the USA. Unfortunately, his life took him in a different direction when drug tests outed that he was a heroin addict. He lost all respect within the archery community and barely managed to graduate high school as he was sent out to rehab. His life changed when he got clean and met an Army recruiter by happenstance at a bar. It would give Roy exactly what he had always wanted: purpose. He proved himself to be, once again, and amazing marksman. So amazing that he rose through the ranks quickly, before being picked up by Team 7. He served as a designated Marksman for the Team on dangerous assignments, and met Jason Todd through Team 7. About a year ago, though, Roy resigned from his position to take care of his ailing father, who ended up passing only months ago. Since then, Roy has decided to make it his mission to see the country that he fought and bled for. His mission was interrupted when he saw a very familiar face walk into some rundown bar in some barely known one road town in rural Texas.

Jason and Roy have one thing in common: they believe deeply in protecting other people. Jason Todd wants answers as to who exactly beat him within an inch of his life, but more importantly wants to find a new purpose. When he reconnects with Roy in a bar and ends up fighting off some men associated with the Aryan Nation, Jason finds a new purpose: removing those racist scum from the face of the Earth. His deeper motivation, though, is an outlet for the anger and rage that is pent up inside as a result of both his injury and his commanding officers' lack of investigation into the matter.

Roy's motivation shifts very quickly within this story. He starts just wanting to see the nation he fought for, since he never really got to actually travel and just see the country for what it was. The problem is that the nation Roy stumbles upon isn't the ideal that he fought for. So, Roy has to pick up his bow once again to fight for a future and the ideal that he had fought for once again: a land of the free, where every man is born equal.

Team 7

John Lynch: The former leader of Team 7, John Lynch is secretly a telekinetic metahuman. He is a cold and calculating man, and there's more to him than meets the eye.

Slade Wilson: One of the most experienced and toughest soldiers in Team 7, Slade has always been in it for one thing: the glory of combat. However, following his son Jericho falling terminally sick, Slade has been trying to find new ways to make money to save his dying son. Who knows where this has led him...

James Bronson: A hero through and through, James Bronson was an intelligence operator for Team 7 who, following Jason and Roy's escapades, will be tasked with bringing in the two men to answer for their crimes.

The Aryan Nation / Brigade

White Dragon: The leader of the Aryan Brigade as a whole, and secretly a vigilante in Dallas, Texas that targets minorities in particular, William Heller is a highly trained soldier with money lining his pockets. He has taken on the title of "White Dragon" as the head of the Aryan Nation, and uses his money and influence to influence police departments and get his hands on experimental technology to aid in his plan for the extermination of "inferior races." He has even gathered white supremacist metahumans together and spun the press into calling them the "Knights Templar."

Bloodsport:Alex Trent is a highly trained former soldier and known racist, Alex has taken on the codename Bloodsport and led the militarization of the Aryan Brigade branch of the Aryan Nation into an army willing to fight for White Supremacy.

Heatmonger: One of the Aryan Brigade's militant operatives, Heatmonger is a blonde haired woman with experimental flamethrower gauntlets courtesy of one William Heller. She is a member of the "Knights Templar."

Backlash: A metahuman with the ability to elongate his arms and manipulate them to form squid-like tendrils. He is a member of the Knights Templar.

Iron Cross: A metahuman with super strength who serves in the Knights Templar.

Golden Eagle: The only non-metahuman among the Knights Templar, Golden Eagle is a former U.S. Marine turned "vigilante."

Blind Faith: She is not a direct member of the Knights Templar, but is always around when they operate publicly. She has telepathy, and uses her abilities to force people of color to admit to crimes openly that they have never committed.

Their Pasts

Chesire: Jade Nguyen is a member of the League of Assassins, and has been tasked with tracking down Jason Todd and making him answer to the League for his infiltration and "stealing" of trade secrets. By her own right, Jade Nguyen is an incredibly skilled assassin and a brilliant toxicologist. She has killed many of her victims by use of poisons and toxins.

Count Vertigo: Werner Zytle was a brilliant chemist and a member of the Vlatavan royal family... before all of his family was executed publicly in a bloody militaristic coup four years ago. The former Count was nearly killed himself by a sniper bullet after his new steward (Jason Todd in disguise) tricked him into getting in position. Since then, Werner Zytle has taken on an alias (Cecil Adams) and has started up a new crime syndicate called Vertigo. Werner has been cooking up powerful new drugs that have been hitting the streets and using the money he's been gathering to build up his organization until it's strong enough to take back his country... but not before he gets revenge on the people who killed him.

I've always had a weakness for tales of travellers who end up in the craziest situations at the weirdest time - which is the entire appeal of Space Cabbie, rather than tales of an eccentric character it is the world around him that has always been strange. His personal life and name are never mentioned in the comics because they aren't important, it's his misadventures through time and space that keep you invested. But recently the character has been changed so much that I can't recognise him and while the appeal of having him appear in other's comics can be fun, the novelty wore off for me when a recent Green Lantern series warped him into a conniving smuggler, forgetting the roots and the charm of what made the character special.

Cabbie's tales have always been of the extraordinary though always keeping to some kind of realism that makes you believe if something similar could happen with a real cab driver. That's what I want to try with my take on this character, adopting the essence of his tales, a person on his way from A to B and thrown into problems all worse than the last. Because Cabby picks up the late night drunks, the snobby woman who refuses to walk, Cabbie can run into the worst of people or the very best and each with a story of their own to tell, not all of them private.

For the first few posts I plan to get used to Cabby and the method in which his stories are told, short, contained and bizarre as they can get - while adapting them to this new earth. I don't plan on introducing many recurring characters too soon, I'll first see who I enjoy writing and if I can imagine more stories for them. Though running into a hero or villain some time wouldn't go amiss, that became a large trope of his and I'd hate to see it forgotten.

Issue #0

Chicago. The city of beaches, a place where masters of the arts showcase their talent, a city that never sleeps and people flock to for dreams unknown.. A cold, wet city struggling to get by on waitresses dreaming of making it big and taxes that bleed your soul. It's here that Colin Trent finds himself, and where he plans on running from. Not a year in this forsaken city and still, somehow everything had gone wrong. His boyfriend branded him a lost cause, his workplace, sunk from tax issues and overspending from their head of operations. No it was this night as the rain fell outside, that Colin realised he should leave, put everything behind him and make amends with some friends who he'd estranged years earlier. It wouldn't be difficult, the last he knew they lived so near..

He found himself moving, out of the cheap, plywood room he'd been calling home for weeks on end. Packing a bag with all the necessities, Colin stepped out on his gambit, a risk to reconnect with his past, an impulse the likes of which were rare for him.
The streets hummed with their neon signs and LCD screens, wares and declarations of business offers propped up by empty shop windows and brick walls. People crowded the sidewalks, huddled closely underneath canopies and umbrellas away from the rain and wind, though it would do little to stop the anger in the wind that night, nor the tears of the clouds as they wailed. Onwards the little man trekked, while the downpour pounded on his coat and hood he continued forwards, moving slowly ever onwards to a destination in mind.

The dim glow of a taxi greeted him, the familiar yellow hue mixed with paint of green and white illuminating the word "TAXI". From below, the window cracked open and a man reached his head out, unconcerned with the rain crashing onto his cap.
"Taxi, Mister? Hop in and where to? You name it-- Anywhere on the Earth!"
He slumped in, the suspension buckled under the new weight, shook unnaturally as the door shut, yet remained in one piece. "Paris, please!" he cried, buckling in his seatbelt.
"Which Paris, pal? Paris, Herrera? Paris, Texas? Paris, France?"
"No, Paris-- Illinois!" he laughed.

The Crown Victoria pulls away from the curve, the dull hum of the engine does little to mask the heavy downpour of rain that echoes on its hollow, metal shell. The cabbie flicks a switch and his sign flickers, then cuts out. The shadows of night reclaims its dominion once again.
"Illinois, huh? What's your story?"
"Visiting old friends." the Passenger boasted loudly
The walls of the cab did little to mask dull the sounds of the outside, engine hums and car honks seemed to cascade through the car, heightening them so not one sound could be dismissed. Turning the wheel, the car pulled out of the street and onto another, the thumping of the city quietened as they continued to move.
"Ahh old friends," The Driver stares off wistfully. "Always a pleasure to see them again. How long has it been, pal?"
"Too long" Colin laughs "Been nearly a year since I've seen anyone."

"Ah, you tried your luck with the city and she spat you back out?" the Cabbie asked, knowingly.
Jovial and in high spirits Colin nodded, a hint of embarrassment on his lips.
"Well not to bother, pal, not everyone makes it where they are now. I should know, with who I've driven! In my business, you deal with customers of all types-- rich, poor, sane, insane..." The Cabbie chuckles for a short moment,
"This one woman, poor lady, she forgot her purse by her door and we'd reached her destination by the time we realised. The lady was in tears, talking about her failed pottery business, she even tried paying me with some glass vases she was carrying!"

The rain continued to pour as they edged towards the city limits, the numbers of cars thickened as the amount of buildings fell, till there were no more around. The Cabbie turned on his headlamps as the streetlights ended, the light and hums of vehicles, and the lights of the city being the only signs of life beyond the silent scope of night. No moon was out, and the stars hid from the city as though they did not wish to see what had become of it in recent years. The soft playing radio breaks through the silence, and brings the two back to reality.

"Well what did you do?" Colin asked.
"Of course I turned us around so she could pick it up, I wouldn't leave a valued customer empty handed. Especially not one in need. But the real pay-off comes one day while I'm waiting at an Orleans Hackstand..."
"Louisiana?" surprised at the distance this cabbie travelled
"9-Planet Taxis, you name the place and we'll get you there.."

"It's not a busy day and I was about to head in for the night when the back of my cab opens. I hear an old, harsh voice tell me
'Baton Rouge, Cabbie! And don't take the long way around the lake!'
I could tell this passenger didn't want any small talk, not that I really wanted to give any after that introduction, so we passed the time in silence. Now when we got to the city, I turn around to pick up my fare, but the old man jumped out the back and scarpered!"

The Cabbie's hand flies around as he retells the story, posing and swaying with the developments, scrunching into a fist he shakes when voicing the man, shaking it at the door when explaining when the man ran. Finally he knocks on the window. "Now since then I started using the locks." "Now all they run into is a hard door!"
"You can lock someone in here? Is that legal?"

"Of course! If someone tries anything we lock them in here and drive them to a station. But that's not how the story ends, you see the man ended up catching my cab again. I cruised the city hoping to catch sight of him, but just when I don't want fares a family pile in, now I still have a job to do and money to earn, it's not like I can put it to the side for someone I might not meet again."
"So I'm hop-skipping across the city for the next few days, I'm moping around listening to the news when suddenly I hear the door swing open and I see a man leap in, and I mean leap, it was a full on dive! I look around to see my fare-- and it's the man again!I'm so excited I forget to act surprised and he recognises me. He even pulls a gun on me! Tells me to step on it!"
"A gun?! Why?

"Well it turns out he had ticked off more than just myself, I didn't know it at the time but the man had been making enemies with people in the city, stealing from a few thugs, kicking the wrong person, you understand... Course I wasn't about to let him get away again, I smacked him in the jaw and knocked away the gun. You might not believe it but that knocked him right out! I took the gun and drove him to the station. Of course I locked the back in case he tried anything funny, I'd learnt my lesson from last time. I didn't get my pay but at least he got behind bars! HA!"

"But back onto you, pal. What's your plan now?

...

The first break of dawn cut between the buildings of Paris, Illinois by the time they arrived, exhausted and contempt with the long conversation he had just had, Colin smiled at the Cabbie, handing him what he owed and stepped out onto the sidewalk. Sunlight rippled and danced across the water where the once-Passenger's foot trod. He knew not what was in store for him next, but he strolled away happily all the same. The taxi pulled away, its windows tinting gray as it reflected in the sun, and once again the Cabbie searches for his next appointment.

Some men like to work indoors. But he's strictly an outside man--So he pushes a taxi around all day... But these days, a hackie gets fares anywhere under the sun...
