Biography: The front of Wichita Children's Home will be burned into Cassiopeia’s memory for the rest of her life. Besides a strange song and a few passing images of her childhood, that memory of when she was thirteen was the first thing she clearly remembered. It was also the start of everything for her. It didn’t take long for her and her twin sister, Layla to be adopted by a loving couple who were as sweet as could be. They definitely got lucky but after two years of happiness, their adoptive parents died in a horrible car accident. The next year they were bounced between a couple of foster homes that were pretty stereotypical in shipping kids in and out for the money, poor living, food locked away and given at random or no intervals at all. In that year Cassiopeia hardened herself pretty quickly.
With the first home, they were given care and support. Read to daily and driven to pursue things they loved to do. Cassiopeia wasn’t sure what those things were but she did like to be active and so followed sports within her school but when she lost that she didn’t have much motivation other than talking back to her teachers and running. She did a lot of running and throwing things that eventually led to near perfect aim. It was this aim that ended up getting her and her twin kicked from their third foster home. One day Cassiopeia had enough of the life that she was forced into and hit her foster parent with a rock she had picked up from outside. She even managed to leave a mark but they left a better one on her leg that has scarred and followed her.
Cassiopeia didn’t have much hope of them getting adopted again after that. They were nearly sixteen but someone was looking out for them. A younger couple who didn’t have the privilege to have their own came in and adopted them. It was a bit unexpected but the four of them seemed to click well. The couple was young and so, very active and introduced the girls to the outdoors, hunting and all things wilderness. They seemed to fall into that world easily, like they were born for it. Cassiopeia developed an act for archery and took to it like a fish in water. The silence of the forest became therapy to her and the sound of a bow string being released, music.
Once the girls turned eighteen, they worked hard to be able to move out on their own. Not because they didn’t like where they were but because it felt like that was where they needed to be. Cassiopeia thrived on her own, opting to go on solo camping or hunting trips just for the peace and tranquility. People take advantage of the natural world and the people in it, so Cassiopeia is a bit of an advocate for independence and preserving what should be left untouched. She started working at a local archery range when she was still being fostered and fell in love with teaching and seeing the moment of joy and bliss when someone hits a target. It is the only time she is ever completely happy. During hunting seasons she has also been hired as a guide, along with her sister due to their supurp wilderness skills.
Do They Remember Anything?: Cassiopeia remembers a few things, things that she surrounds herself with now so she doesn’t forget. She remembers firing a bow for the first time, how much her muscles and the arrow shook. How bad her aim was and a man laughing. She remembers forests, endless deep greens that don’t nearly look like the forests where she lives. Then there is this song that seems to follow each memory. There are no lyrics, she only ever remembers it being hummed or whistled by that same man who laughed.
Theme Song: Displaced - Azure Ray
