Bio

Long time casual role player who loves tales of adventure! I enjoy tabletop games, play-by-post, and even LARP!

Wild (and sometimes weird) west and medieval fantasy games with an 'old-school' D&D feel are my favorite.

In real life, I'm a software engineer and wanna-be farmer. I have a little garden and some chickens that like to destroy my flower beds. But I like 'em anyway and they all have names. ;) Sometimes they lay me some breakfast.

Other hobbies include dog agility and archery.

Galiena was brooding over her pint of Honeybrew Ale, contemplating her recent failure to recover the enchanted emerald Dravis had sent her in search of. Each avenue she had thus far attempted was a dead end. And now she was out of leads, procrastinating on the inevitable trek back to the temple to inform the cleric order of her failures.

Lost her own thoughts, she almost missed the conversation going on at the next table. But she managed to catch the last exchange between the men and the barmaid. The young woman took another sip of her ale as she considered this information. Pendril the Darkheart.... the name rang a bell, perhaps she had read about him in a history book, but she couldn't quite place it.

Either way, if there were artifacts involved, maybe she didn't have to return completely empty handed...

"Gentlemen," she said, standing to approach their table, "pardon the intrusion, but I could not help but overhear of your plight. May I offer my assistance?" She held up a hand to stave off the expected out-of-hand rejection until she had at least finished her introduction. "My name is Galiena, an Adept of the 4th Clerical Order in Ashdown. It is in the Orders best interest to ensure safe recovery of artifacts of historical or magical significance."
"If I may interject myself, as much as sending two stealthy members on ahead sounds like a plan what if you get captured? Then we'd just be down two people against the same number of Orcs. There are strength in numbers and if possible I'd like to keep our number the same."
Ceridwen

"Then we won't get caught," Gytha said confidently. "There is some danger in splitting up," she said then, partially agreeing with Ceridwen's point. "But if the town has been taken over by orcs, we need to know that before exposing ourselves. What if we ..."

An arrow whizzing by interrupted the ranger's thought. Someone was yelling "...meet your death," as a second arrow almost impaled her foot. With her arrow already knocked, she let her reflexes take over, drawing the bow back as she located the strange form darting through the trees. Leading the flying thing just slightly, she let the arrow loose just as Ban was shouting something in an attempt to diffuse the situation. But in her mind, once something was sending projectiles her direction, the time for talk was over. There would be plenty of time to sort it out once the threat had been removed...

As they drew close to Alpton, Gytha grew quiet so that she could concentrate on watching the forest on the west side of the road. Occasionally, she glanced across the Kots River to the opposite bank, watching for movement. She spotted no immediate sign of danger, but it never hurt to be cautious and she readied her bow and knocked an arrow loosely to the string.

There was no telling how bold the orcs might have grown even in the short time since the king's last report. Until she knew otherwise, she had to assume it was possible the orcs had overtaken the town.

"Perhaps Vaarea and I should scout ahead?" she posed to the group, unaware of the grudge the female goliath was harboring for her.
I'm wondering that too. By my character 'leading', I'm not certain how much as a player (and not GM or co-GM) I'm supposed to make up the terrain, threats, obstacles, etc on our trek toward Alpton.

@DeadlyPhoenix
"He's beautiful," Gytha said to Ban as she paused just a moment to let the wolf sniff her hand before moving onward again. "Did you find him as a pup?" She'd once known another man who had kept a she-wolf as a companion and the animal had made an excellent tracker and would have protected her master to the death, but the beast had also been difficult to control.

But before Ban had a chance to answer, another man was introducing himself. A cleric? Gytha smiled in greeting. "It is a great comfort to know we have the aid of a cleric. Though, I can't help but fear we'll need it," the ranger said to Sal. "I'm Gytha."

"Have you traveled along the Kots River before?" she asked both of the men. "Once we get farther than a few miles north of here, we'll need to keep our guard up. The bandits tend to only attack small groups that don't appear well-armed, but if the orcs are hurting the food supply, they may be more desperate now than in the past. And desperate men do stupid things..."
@DeadlyPhoenix If there's anything in that post I just made that I need to tweak, let me know!

"I know the way," Gytha volunteered, glancing first toward the man with the wolf that had posed the question, then around at the others in the newly formed company. She was certain of the town by the king's description of their orchards. She stepped into the middle of the group so that everyone could easily hear her, "The town is Alpton. I was there only a few times and the most recent was over a year ago, but the way is not hard to know. We need only to travel north along the Kots River. The farmers use the river to ship their fruits down to the capital, but there is also a road that runs beside the river for their beasts to haul their rafts back upstream."

So once any last minute preparations were made, the ranger Gytha began leading them east, toward the Kots River.

This part of the journey did not seem treacherous to her, so she fell into step beside one of her new companions. (OOC- Anyone!) "Have you been to Alpton before? I'm nervous that if we don't make it there before the orcs, the farmers may not be able to hold them off for long, or at all," she said, her concern genuine.
@DeadlyPhoenix

Did the town have a name already? Or can I make it up? :)
Would it be alright if Gytha was slightly familiar with the town where we are going since she is a ranger and from this kingdom?
@Gareth

No i am just waiting on more people to post actually.... and no one is. So it might be... but I am not giving up yet.

Even if we're missing a few party members, we can take on those orcs! Bring on the mission!
