Bio

Long time casual role player who loves tales of adventure! I enjoy tabletop games, play-by-post, and even LARP!

Wild (and sometimes weird) west and medieval fantasy games with an 'old-school' D&D feel are my favorite.

In real life, I'm a software engineer and wanna-be farmer. I have a little garden and some chickens that like to destroy my flower beds. But I like 'em anyway and they all have names. ;) Sometimes they lay me some breakfast.

Other hobbies include dog agility and archery.

It was a very disorienting experience for someone who'd never done it before and Galiena took a few long seconds to get her bearings again before responding. "No, no motion sickness," she said unconvincingly.

She recovered quickly, then smiled. "That was really quite exciting. A much better way to travel, even if it did make my heart skip a few beats."

She wondered suddenly if Iraetria would be taking her back the same way. But first thing first and that was to see if she could speak with the Count. "You don't think he'll.. the Count, I mean... be upset at us just dropping in like this, do you?"
Kind of liking "Whitehall". :) (Though multiple of the suggestions could easily be nicknames for the place.)

Once Poo gets a chance to post, I'll have Dulcena start laying out the first mission.

Magic has always been rather rare and considered dangerous. But for many years there was a prestigious order of mages who studied magic and tried to utilize it wisely. It was about a century and a half ago when things went wrong. A mage named Gerrell dove too recklessly into magic and it corrupted him, driving him to seek ever more, no matter the consequences. When the others grew concerned, he fled the order and was forgotten about for years. During that time, he was slowly building an army, corrupting the minds of the trolls until they came to serve him. Gerrell himself continued his foray into more and more powerful magics, driven ever more insane and lustful for power.

After a decade had passed, his troll army began their conquest, bolstered by his magic, and more organized than ever before, they swept up a large portion of territory before the other areas and races could get their act together. The order of the magi was overrun, killing all except a few that managed to escape.

War followed. Gerrell was only defeated by the combined efforts of the armies from various city states and those few mages who had escaped him previously. They performed a ritual to finally defeat him and seal up the fortress that housed the mage's order "forever".

By almost unanimous decision, magic was outlawed.

Now, Lady Dulcena believes she may have found a way to get inside that fortress and see what secrets can be uncovered.
"Really?" Galiena was pleasantly surprised at the offer and not about to turn it down, and not simply to save her boots five miles of wear. She'd heard that some mages learned how to teleport, but had never experienced it first hand and was quite curious to see how exactly it worked.

She stepped after the dark elf, pushing aside any misgivings she might have. "It's much appreciated, Iraetria." She wondered idly about the relationship between the dark elf and the count. The boy Tristan, whether he had intended to or not, seemed to suggest they were more than simply friends. Perhaps this was simply an excuse for the dark elf to pay the count another visit.

She pushed those thoughts away, reminding herself it was none of her business. "Do I... do I need to hold on to something? I've never done this before," she admitted.
The cleric assumed this was the dark elf that Tristan had mentioned. The likelihood of there being more than one seemed slim.

"Galiena," she replied. "I spoke with 3 of his men earlier about a job that he was hiring for and wished to express my interest in joining the expedition."

She assumed the job was probably common knowledge, but avoided mentioning the catacombs at Plyren specifically, just in case it wasn't.

"Do you how I might request an audience with him?"
@Polybius, ok. Sorry to see you go, but much appreciate you letting us know.

Once the 9th had completed his bath, the old woman ushered them into the main part of the small castle through a servant's entrance and into a narrow hallway. Smells of freshly baked bread wafted toward them and a few moments later, they emerged into kitchen where a meal awaited them, laid out on a table that seemed to probably be where the servant's usually ate.

The red clad Lady Dulcena was already seated and gestured for them to come join her. The meal itself was nothing extremely fancy, but there was plenty of both food and drink. "You certainly smell and look better. Come eat before we discuss why you are here."
I tend to struggle coming up with cool names. Any suggestions for the name of this sealed up mage's fortress?
"I believe you will," she told him with a smile to his comment about becoming a knight.

After bidding goodbye, she did indeed hurry again toward the library, skipping St. Hendrick's Cathedral for the moment. She could visit it later, after speaking with the Count.

As she entered, she looked for someone who seemed like maybe they worked there. "Excuse me," she asked, "Is Count Leonard here? I seek an audience with him."

Rolf'll be like
"No, nuh uh, not touching that!"

Back to prison with you! ;)

I hope you don't mind if I flesh out magic a bit on my own. I've got ideas, but I'll reveal them in RP, and I'll make sure they sync up with what's already been laid down.

I don't mind at all.
