We're looking at a fast and furious style combat RP here. By fast and furious, I don't mean rapid posting, I mean that everything should be aimed at concluding the scenario. It's new territory though, so we can see how the first run goes, and judge how to conduct future scenarios from there.

So, am I crazy? Or, am I crazy? I think this could work, provided it's played by people with the right mentality for it.

Decisions made under emotional duress tend not to revolve around rationality and self-preservation ergo it's entirely feasible that they "walked off" to save their families. However, regardless of what the TWD canon indicates, we already have enough soldiers in this RP. Any more and the idea will quickly become trite.I'm not sure if your last remark was a snarky jab or a good-natured joke. In case it was the former, that sounds like a false dichotomy to me. You can have an interesting and complex character without them being yet another experienced badass from the army. In comparison to the idea of , fried chicken warriors sound quite entertaining and original.

I'm sorry, I wasn't criticising the RP for a lack of soldiers. I just wanted to play a force of good in a world overrun by chaos and inhumanity. I had some time to go away, and think about a really diverse set of characters, and If you'll let me, I'd like to play as a: Buddhist Monk, Muslim Iman, Christian Priest and a Jewish Rabi, forced to put asides their ideological differences to survive. I think there would be a fantastic amount of room for all kinds of drama and character development. Especially as each of them tries to deal with the walking dead from the view of their respective faiths. What do you think?

Thinking about it, as interesting as that idea may be, it might offend people who read my posts, especially as I'm not a religious person myself. If you'll still have me, I'll take those 4 KFC workers and make my way through the apocalypse. No soldiers. No guns. No training. Just ordinary people.
I guess that makes sense, although you might have thought that the soldiers would have become selfish. By that, I mean they would have been safer behind their Apache gunships, cruise missiles, tanks and machine guns than if they went AWOL. They would have seen how bad things were first hand, no one in their right mind would have just "walked off" on a suicide mission to find their families. Which is unfortunate, because that kind of behaviour would mean countries would not have civil wars. If the enemy is near your family, you would be disbanding to go and protect them; meaning there wouldn't be any opposing forces left! Haha.

But that's fair enough, if the Walking Dead's creator decided that's what happened, than I guess that's what happened.

Sorry for wasting you time. If I ever get the urge for playing a squad of KFC fryer staff, I'll return to unleash fast food justice on the zombie horde, and my fellow man.
Hi,

Hope you do not mind, but I piggy backed Scotsman's RP interactions (involved with him in another RP), and I couldn't help but fall in love with this thing. I do not know a great deal about zombies, as it's not really my genre, but I do love the survival factor.

Before I join, I wanted to know if the U.S Government is still functioning at this point? I've given the Walking Dead wiki a quick once over for a brief understanding, and it all seems pretty bare in covering it. Just abandoned military and CDC outposts. Just seems hard to imagine that something as slow moving and as stupid and zombies would somehow overcome the U.S military completely.

I'm asking, because if possible, I wanted to play a small group of National Guardsman operating out of some isolated outpost somewhere in Chicago. Running scavenging operations, and trying to maintain law and order over the people they're protecting. I like my soldiers, you see, as Scotsman can probably vouch for.

I wouldn't go around blasting everything to pieces with infinite ammo, I'd probably more be focusing on trying to navigate the city's ruins searching for survivors, leading big groups of zombies away from the outpost, and searching for supplies. Again, on the question of blasting everything to pieces, I imagine if the U.S Government is in a bad way, then there wouldn't be much of the stuff anyway.

Please let me know either way, and we'll go from there.

Thanks.
*** For you guys who are unaware, I am assuming control of the Russian attackers. I will not be trying to "win" the RP, but will rather serve as the RP's main active antagonist. My moves will be monitored by The Scotsman, and I ultimately answer to him. However, all being well, there shouldn't be any problems. If you have any questions, ask away. I've put this below post together for you guys to use as a quick reference guide for the various troops/vehicles you will be encountering. ***

76th Guards Air Assault Division

Played by KeyboardKilroy

The 76th Guards Air Assault Division is a prominent airborne infantry body within the Russian Federation’s armed forces. It consists, as may be obvious, of mostly paratroopers (Vozdushno-desantnye voyska or VDV) backed by a variety of gunships, light armoured vehicles, engineer companies and some artillery.

By the time Battle of Edinburgh Castle takes place, the division has exhausted itself after a lightning strike across the eastern coast of Scotland. Hundreds were lost when the UK’s air defences responded in earnest to the squadrons of Russian An-12 aerial troop transports crossing the North Sea. Thousands more were scattered all over the mountainous country due to poor weather conditions and RAF forays, in an ironic comparison to the Allies’ airborne invasion of Normandy some 70 years earlier.

What ensued was a deadly game of cat and mouse, as the Russian VDV consolidated and clashed with Scotland’s regional defence forces. Taken by surprise, the British soldiers were driven off or encircled, despite the VDV’s displacement, and within 48 hours the situation for the Western Alliance was grim.

Now, with nothing to stop them, the 23rd Air Assault Regiment moves into the Edinburgh suburbs from the West, whilst the 234th Air Assault Regiment spearheads the assault from the East. The battle will come on two fronts, and though the brave soldiers of the VDV are determined to secure their objective, they are tired from two days of constant fighting and marching.

Nevertheless, Guards Col. Naumets Vasilevich, the division’s commanding officer, is confident that his men can prevail in Operation Regicide – the designation for the fall of Edinburgh, and the securing of the weapons of mass destruction. He orders them to attack, and not to relent; no matter what the cost.

Troop Types

Below are the types of enemies, and their appearance, that the defenders of the castle will be encountering. Please note that this is a work in progress, and more units may be added as the battle progresses.

Russian Paratroopers aka VDV

These are the hammer and anvil of the Russian assault. They are well trained, battle tested and determined. However, they have also been in near-constant battle for the last two days, and their combat-worthiness is questionable. Losses sustained in the initial invasion, and the grinding nature of the global conflict has impacted their morale somewhat. They are definitely in sorry shape, but do not underestimate a limping wolf.

Spetsnaz

The Russian Federation’s elite warriors, these soldiers rank amongst the world’s greatest. Although few in number, they should be feared, and dealt with quickly should they ever manifest themselves in the assault.

2B11 Sani

The 2B11 Sani serves as the Russians’ main means of artillery support. It is a heavy 120mm infantry mortar, capable of ranges up to 7 kilometres. The attacking forces have dozens of these weapons assigned to them, so listen out to the distinctive whistle of a mortar round – and take cover if you do.

Mil Mi-24

The Mil Mi-24 (Миль Ми-24, NATO reporting name: Hind) is a large helicopter gunship and attack helicopter and low-capacity troop transport with room for eight passengers.

The loadout mix is mission dependent; Mi-24s can be tasked with close air support, anti-tank operations, or aerial combat.

BMP-2

The BMP-2 provides the VDV with the bulk of their land-based troop transport and armoured support. Some were landed directly onto Scottish beaches, whilst others have been flown into the battle; either way, there are scores of them supporting the assault.

However, the network of tight roads and narrow streets that surround the castle diminish their effectiveness. If one gets within range of the castle, and has a good line of sight, then watch out for its stabilized 30 mm 2A42 autocannon with dual ammunition feeds!

Having looked into the castle, via google map's street view - that is one nasty looking fortification. I can see why you chose it, even by modern standards it's well situated. It's surrounded by loads of dense streets too, which will stop the Russians from swarming on it. Then you have the almost vertical climb of the hill itself, making the causeway the only plausible way of a direct assault. A tactician's nightmare.

I'm going to enjoy working out ways to take this thing.

So we've got five bad asses with 5 bad ass fire teams. High walls. Steep climb. Solid structure.

*goes to research Russian climbing equipment*
How about a Chinese/Russian/Korean alliance? Bonded together by diplomatic Western aggression against their various states. China and North Korea are busy fighting the U.S in the Far East, heavily depleting Nato resources in Europe. Despite assurances of neutrality to the escalating crisis, Russia launches a blitzkrieg against Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia.

By the time the RP takes place, Norway has just fallen, and Germany has been reduced to a smoke choked hell hole as Nato and Russia go toe-to-toe. With her army away on the European mainland, Britain then faces a surge attack by Russian forces using Norway as a leap pad. The Royal Navy scrambles to intervene, as does the TA and whatever remains of the army on Britain, but until they can congregate into a serious force, Scotland stands open to full blown invasion.

Regional Scottish forces are obliterated in a joint airborne/naval operation from Russia, and all that stands between London and the Russian vanguard is the castle.

The SAS, or whoever they are, have to hold off against the Russians until the British army mobilises its counter attack.

There's my two cents lol. Like I say though, go with whatever you want. Orcs? I can play orcs.
I could do that.

If it doesn't work out, I will step back and let the RP take its natural course. Though I think I've got this covered.

So what're we talking here? Russians? Chinese? I'm trying to think of a logical enemy in this situation; who'd be able to sweep through Western Europe and then land on Britain? Obviously there's going to be a bit of room for fantasy on whoever these guys are, and I'm not going to complain with whatever you choose. However, the quicker I know who it is, the quicker I can start researching the sort of equipment and tactics they might employ.

Thanks for hearing me out by the way.
Hi, I know this RP is full, and I will gladly slip back into the black chasm that I just crawled out of, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut....

If you guys wanted an omniscient enemy to fight against, I would love to play as the attacking forces. I wouldn't try to "win" or anything, I just really want to brush up on my writing skills (which is why I joined the site), and this suits my area of interest quite well.

You know, rather than inventing scenarios/situations/crises on your own, I would happily fill that role. Like, I could detail troop movements i.e the enemy scaling the walls, or launching a mortar strike, or trying to air drop troops in the middle of the mess. You guys could then hamburger them as you see fit.

Just a thought.
