Current So, as an American, what do I do when I need to choose between illegal immigration to Canada and dying in a civil war?

Up until today I've never had any trouble with my EUIV Japan games. Today I got stomped five times in a row before even uniting the country.

Bio

I'm a weeaboo communist. Are you surprised?

EDIT: You probably are now, but I'm not going to tell you why you wouldn't have been like two years ago. You get to agonize over that yourself.

@Lucidnonsense Depends on who wants to make first contact, and it'll arrive in the first post I make of the UU, Also Keyguy, you never got back to me on if I could make another nation or not.

Oh yeah, sorry about that. I'm leaning towards no, I let Duck make two but that's because they're at war with each other and one is going to win. I MIGHT change my mind, shoot me a PM and I could be willing. Just don't get ahead of yourself and make an app because I doubt I'll change my mind.
<Snipped quote by WrongEndoftheRainbow>Wouldn't work at all.
Federation is a bit of isolationist here and what good they get from meeting another very advanced race aside from pure conflict?
I'd rather start it with @Keyguyperson and other civs because the Federation was kinda made for reacting to classic space NRP factions in amusing ways.

I'd be happy with you stumbling in on the Terran Union, especially since all the Terran ships have giant and obvious turrets pasted all over them complete with prominently displayed red markings. Also the super battleships with the giant holes in the front that definitely aren't shuttle bays. As another plus, the Chairman used to watch Star Trek.

"So they're the federation from Star Trek?"
"Yes."
"Huh, that's cool. They'll make good allies I'll be-"
"They're hyperconsumerists too."
"..."
"Chairman?"
"Didn't you say something about their ships not having any turrets?"
"Chairman no we haven't even rebuilt Earth fully yet."
@Keyguyperson Updated.

And accepted!

I don't think Ophidian's coming back. He seemed pretty final this time. :/

*Crying*

He was gonna be such a good comrade too.

Hey, so a question. Are we all going to start off with having had no contact with one another? And needing to establish first contact? Or will some species have met one another? Or is it just up to the individual players to figure that out?

It's the last one. The only contacts are those already set up by players, otherwise they're oblivious. Like my humans.

Also, yes, y'all can go ahead and start. Everyone who's posted their apps so far is accepted with the singular exception of @MissingAxis. Your app needs a bit more info on it, not that I don't trust you to meet the rp's standards (you past posts definitely do that). I just think the app needs to say a little bit more.
<Snipped quote by Ophidian>Don't worry, Federation Starfleet doesn't have that many ships. Expect one or a couple of starships fighting your massive fleet. Generally the security of a system can be guaranteed by one decently equipped starship alone.
I am kinda going with TOS Star Trek's interpretation of how starships were used.
Think of star systems as countries and a starship as a nuclear aircraft carrier. One coasting close to your waters is usually scary enough.

That's how Federation starships were treated straight up until DS9, when ship got all WWII Pacific Theater. Hell, the TOS Enterprise is explicitly capable of glassing planets.

Sovet power generation is a....mess of different technologies pulling in different directions. You've got nuclear power-not anyone near the level of the Federation. Think Fallout.

Then you've got Tesla power, which at this point works mostly because someone neglected to tell the Soviets it wouldn't work.*

And then you have this lovely cocktail of unstable chemicals they use to power so-called "bioreactors".

*Ambassador," Max said, "in the course of my life I have more than once been too ignorant to know that something was impossible before I did it anyway. I see no reason to jeopardize that success."

The Terran Union uses a lot of nuclear power too, but they're in the processes of making practical antimatter reactors.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

<Snipped quote by Ophidian>

I love those books

Oh my God, you're making me look through my bookshelf for all my old Star Wars guides.

Yeah, in retrospect it's clear it was a joke. I suppose I'm just a bit on edge. I feel bit responsible for the recent drama, so I took it in the worst possible manner.

Doesn't help that I'm somewhat insecure about my lack of understanding of physics beyond the simple stuff. An insecurity that I cannot correct because I am somewhat hopeless with the subject of math...

Welcome to the club. I wanted to be an aerospace engineer once, guess who's considering majoring in Pol Sci?
Oh yeah, that whole vacuum energy thing is cool. As in, I'm good with it and it's also cool IRL. Instead I'll just keep using my nuclear reactors and sometimes antimatter because fuck you and your bourgeoisie vacuum energy.

Yeah, it was just a joke. I like saying that.

Ah. My apologies then.

Yeah I should probably clarify: When I call people "idiotic-ass fucking piles of shit" or anything else really I generally don't mean it. If I do, you'll probably be able to tell you fuckmaggot.

Big doesnt necessarily mean "immune to weapons any sensible Type 2 civilization has" a 106 mile starship without some kind of defense system Can still be damaged by Space-Weapons such as relativistic mass drivers or Antimatter missiles, or kamikazi at relativistic speed.

This is entirely true. If anything, a 100 mile long ship (that DOESN'T HAVE TURRETED MAIN GUNS) would be easy pickings. But there's no need to have a 100-mile long ship aside from measuring your e-peen. We all like to throw around big numbers but they usually mean nothing, just stick to verbal descriptions and if you have to use numbers do something other than punching the numpad a few times.

Again, no offense intended, I just talk like this.
Okity dokitey artichokity. This thread blew up with all the force of a thermonuclear bomb.

106 miles is insane for a ship. Like, Multi-kilometer vessels are alread ridiculous unless you're talking a pre-FTL antimatter based starship in which case it needs to be really huge. But 106 MILES? 106 METERS is a small destroyer. I'm okay with giant-ass superstructures but not warships that are 100 miles long. Thaaaaats too big. Even as an ultimate boss that you need a coalition to take down that's too big. Like 10 miles is the absolute maximum or some shit like that.

Honestly though? We don't need no numbers. "Holy shit that thing is huge" is good enough. "It's the size of Rhode Island!" We don't need to measure and compare our starships that definitely are not gigantic rods with a huge gun going down the middle. In the end though, make your ships smaller. They can still be insanely huge but not so huge that they fly over a planet and everyone goes "oh hey a lunar eclipse". The UU is based on insane quality but no quantity, which is fine. Just don't make things ridiculously huge.
