@Grnmachine He wouldn't be able to deny it, nor would he think it is a prank for many reasons. The first is that he has had that mark since he was born and there are only marks on the chosen. Second the disciples of the water goddess would be checking in on him multiple times throughout his life, not keeping it a secret at all. Third, the previous water chosen would also check in on him a lot throughout his life. Fourth, everyone and i mean everyone would know his family and him. They'd know he was the chosen of water so there is no getting around it being mentioned to him multiple times by multiple people. Plus there are occasionally meetings of all chosen ones which include previous and the new ones start going too about at the age of 5.
The waves were nonexistent that morning before school, leaving Marina with a lot of time to kill before needing to go rinse off and change. Most of the time was spent doing some yoga on her surfboard, enjoying the sound of waves gently crashing on the shoreline. The rest of her time was spent lying on the board staring at the sky, thinking. She was glad that she did though because her mind came up with a brilliant plan in regards to something to occupy her time and bring her enjoyment.
A small smirk spread across Marina’s face as she rolled from her back to her stomach to begin paddling the board back to land. There was still more to finalize but she could do some of that in the shower or on her motorcycle. Upon reaching the beach she hopped off her board and picked it up walking to her storage locker, enjoying the feeling of the sand beneath her feet. While California had some nice sand, she definitely missed Australia’s sand and some other things from Australia. But here in California she had a whole new sea of people to have her fun with. Which is exactly what her plan intended to make the best of.
Having gotten her bag after dropping off her board, Marina was thankful for coming in early from the water because when she walked into the locker room she was met with a hottie in the middle of changing. Quickly checking her phone, she smirked knowing she had time for a quickie. Looking back up she eyed the girl giving her ‘the look’, the girl was luckily one to swing her way and seemed to be down as the two met in the middle. A heated makeout session quickly grew even hotter as clothes were lost and the beach locker room became steamy without the showers ever having to be turned on.
Some time later, Marina exited the locker room refreshed, showered, and in a great mood. Completely changed and now ready for school she went to her motorcycle throwing her bag in the seat compartment. She may have let her fun go a little long so now she needed to book it to school. Not that she had to worry about that, a ‘little’ speeding didn’t bother the adrenaline junkie one bit.
Jumping on the motorcycle, she revved the engine before taking off. Hitting over 100mph pretty quickly as she sped towards BHHS. The closer she got, the more her mind refocused on her plan from earlier. A smirked played on Marina’s lips as she sped up, swerving between cars with ease. Soon seeing the sight of her school in the distance, which caused her to gradually get slower and slower the more it drew near. Pulling into the parking lot she hopped off the motorcycle, grabbing her bag and then continuing on her way. Marina had one goal and one goal only, get to the person this plan involved and get it rolling.
With her homeroom in sight she sped up, not caring that she was now about five minutes late to school. Marina entered the room ignoring the slight glare from Mrs. Winship as she went straight to Shauna and pulled up a chair right next to her.
“I have a proposition. A challenge so to speak. And it’s definitely one you’ll want to hear because it involves sleeping with a lot of girls.” Marina leaned forward smirking at Shauna, fully aware of the girl’s reputation, thus the reason she was the one Marina chose for her ‘plan’.
@Grnmachine Here are the things we decided should be required for the viola as we saw some ways it could be abused and we want to make sure it isn't too OP: So a big thing is that your character will need to maintain eye contact on the beast, his full concentration needs to be the creature, if he looks away the spell breaks or if he loses sight of the beast somehow (like by attacks from other chosen) the spell breaks. Another thing is that if there is a loud noise that interferes with the music being heard the spell is broken. Finally and probably most importantly, it has no effect on the bigger creatures/beast especially the Hunters and Guardians(you will learn more about those when the bestiary is shared within the ooc post).
I hope that you understand where we are coming from as sometimes this could make things a bit boring when involving creatures that don't travel in packs or such. We all truly love the uniqueness of the viola and are excited to see how it plays out as long as these guidelines are followed.
Pushing through the crowd of people back to the deck, Matthew could feel his heart racing. He could not believe he had just done such a stupid thing with so many people around, it would be close to a miracle if no one saw and them. And if someone saw the two kiss, it was only a short time until the whole school knew and then the whole community and then his whole church and finally his parents found out. Oh boy, if his parents found out. Life would only get worse for him. They told him that if it happened again that he’d be sent to an asylum next and probably wouldn’t get to see freedom again.
Yes his own parents threatened such a horrid thing. Most people would probably believe he was exaggerating if he told them but he wasn’t in the slightest bit. Matthew’s parents would not tolerate such a ‘sinful feeling’ from their son. Constant talk of the devil being involved occuring at almost every meal. The eldest Archer sibling’s only escape was that of his sister, who seemed to be missing as of right now.
When the blonde reached the deck, he climbed onto a chair and looked across the sea of people only visible by the bonfire. He was lucky to spot the girl he was looking for standing not too far from the bonfire with her camera up to her eye, taking pictures of the fire and party. With a small wave of relief washing over him, Matt once again made his way through a crowd of people until he reached his sister.
The sound of Matthew’s quick steps pulled Miriam out of her photography trance just in time for her brother to grab her arm and begin pulling her to where they parked.
“Hey Matt! What’s the big idea. We aren’t leaving until I-” Miriam stopped talking once she saw her brother’s face and quickly sped up to keep up with him, the two making a B-line for Matt’s car. “You better tell me everything once we get in the car!”
Location: School --> Back of School Mentioned: Topher@melissahart
Matthew had told Miriam everything when they got home the night of the party. A part of her was excited that her brother had found a guy of interest but the other part of her, the much bigger part of her, was given fuel for the growing flame of hatred towards her parents. It was their fault he couldn’t be true to himself, their fault that since the party he was nothing but a depressed mess when his parents weren’t around.
Their parents, if they could even be considered that, had turned Matt into a shell of the person he used to be and only continued to make it worse. So Miriam was going to do something about it, something to get the attention off her brother. She wasn’t quite sure what it was going to be yet, but she had been wanting to turn against her parents for awhile now and the party events only pushed the desire further. Miriam would just need to brainstorm a list of ideas later during school.
Speaking of school, the siblings were currently pulling into the parking lot. When Matt parked the car he said nothing as he grabbed his backpack and got out pulling his hood up on his jacket. Miriam quickly scrambled out of the car, her camera around her neck, tea in hand, and backpack on her back as she ran to catch up to her brother. The two walked in silence going by Matt’s locker then too Miriam’s where she watched her brother out of the corner of her eye as she put her stuff away.
Making her mind up as she looked at how pathetic her brother looked right now, Miriam stuffed her backpack in her locker and shut it looking at him as she leaned against it. “We aren’t going to homeroom.” She stated causing Matthew to look up at her with wide eyes.
“What are you talking about Mimi?” Matt asked incredulously.
“You look too pathetic to go right now, plus I know you don’t want to risk running into you-know-who from the party.” Miriam had been banned from saying the boy’s name as it just upset Matt, “So we are skipping homeroom.”
Matt opened his mouth to speak a few times, looking like a fish gasping for water. His sister? Suggesting to skip a class? That was a new one. “You’d seriously do that? For me?”
Miriam simply nodded, she looked over to the last rush of students heading towards their homeroom class as the bell was about to ring within the minute. “Come on. I know the perfect place.” Grabbing her brother’s hand she dragged him behind her through the rush of people, maneuvering through all of them the best she could until they reached a door. Pushing it open the two left the school building and were now behind the school on a grassy hill. If she remembered correctly, this is where some students came to smoke so she knew it was not a place that teachers ventured.
The two walked over to one of the few trees behind the school and sat down under it. Matt shortly falling asleep with his back against the tree, soft snores escaping his lips bring a giggle to his sisters lips. Quickly turning her camera on, Miriam snapped a few pictures of her sleeping brother before moving her camera around while looking through it. As she looked for anything else interesting to take pictures of she scanned the rooftop and had to do a double take when she noticed a boy leaning against the fence smoking. It was a perfect candid photo. She zoomed slightly and took the picture before lowering the camera and looking up at him. Curious about why he was up there and who he was. Miriam shook her head and turned her camera off, it wasn’t her business. It was just another student skipping homeroom.
Chosen Marking Esmeray's mark is that of full body transformation almost, her mark fully makes her look skeletal while also changing her eyes upon use of her magic. She uses a spell taught to her by the previous Chosen One of Death to hide her skeletal mark at all times, having been taught that it is ugly and horrifying by her parents. The only people who know of her mark are her brother, her parents, the previous Chosen One of Death, and the Disciples of Death.
Appearance Esmeray exudes innocence, kindness, and purity from her appearance. Barely standing 5'1", she comes across as weak and in need of protection. The only thing that contradicts her appeal of innocence is her startling bright red eyes, something one would never expect from such a girl as they seem to hold a fierceness and strength that combats the rest of her look, although if you look at the right time you can see them soft and shining bringing her appearance together once and for all.
Familiar Type - Skeletal Dragon
Skills Decay - With a simple chant of a spell along with the placement of her hand on whatever she wishes to 'decay', said object will seem to rush forward in time as it decomposes or falls apart dependent on what it was she touched. The spell has a side effect though. For a period of time, dependent on how long and how big the area was that she used the spell on, her hand or hands will become cursed with the spell making anything she touches begin to break down which can include her own skin. So she puts on special gloves gifted to her by Thann.
Spirit Connection - This can range from minor to major. Spirit Whisper(Minor) = Used along with Spirit Sight, she uses it to hear and speak with spirits Spirit Sight(Minor/Mid) = Focusing her mind's eye as well as her actual eyes, she can shift her eyes to view within the spirit plane. This also allows her to communicate with any spirits she spots. This can have consequences though, one consequence is the attraction of dark spirits that then communicate with her on their own accord until she deals with them. The other main consequence is she can only use her spirit sight for five minutes at a time before it begins to give her a headache. Spirit Walk(Mid) = Another skill that can be used with Spirit Sight and also Spirit Whisper, it allows her to walk up to 50ft to 75ft from her body within the spirit plane but she has to be careful as to not let a dark spirit enter her body while she is out of it as unlike with her Spirit Projection where she has runes of protection, there is nothing to keep her safe. Spirit Projection(Major) = Esmeray first draws five runes of protection followed by a giant rune of grounding, all of these must be drawn in blood. Once done, she sits within the middle of the rune of grounding and begins to meditate causing the lines of the runes to glow, the protection runes creating beams of glowing red light that connect with one another to make a barrier around the main rune, once the barrier is formed it becomes invisible to the human eye the only glowing coming from the grounding rune. Esmeray is then able to disconnect her spirit and take it where she wants, in between the spirit plane and regular plane. This drains a lot of mana and no matter how long she is separated from her spirit, be it 30 seconds to 6 hours. She will come back and immediately pass out due to lack of mana. Luckily she is able to keep herself projected for as long as necessary unless the runes are messed with.
Summoning - Esmeray's typical summon is either a spirit beast or skeleton warrior. These two things having been something she learned to summon for a long time. Though both may not seem like much, both are more helpful than they seem. The spirit beasts become solid when attacking and if she gives it more mana it can grow to be bigger. The skeleton warrior is typically summoned with other skeleton warriors, each with a weapon of some sort. Though they all are on the clumsier side, just like with the spirit beasts they get a boost of a sort from extra mana. The boost they receive is that of piecing themselves back together, although it takes the idiots some time.
Weapon The blades run just over a foot each kept extremely sharp at all times so it can be used to slice through things easily, the hardest thing it can slice easily being bone but it has to be swung at the right speed and at its sharpest in order to slice bone, so truly the hardest thing it can slice through easily is wood. The chain connecting the two blades is 9 feet in length. Allowing for good reach when fighting. When she is not using her weapon it is charmed by magic to sit on her wrist as a bracelet, the two blades looking to be charms on said bracelet.
Personality As she is seen, Esmeray appears to be quite innocent and weak but in reality she is anything but. Her whole life was nothing but hell when she was at home, her only escape being with her mentor and previous Chosen of Death, Thann. Through his small and odd ways to show affection Esmeray grew to be strong and hold confidence, for the most part, within herself.
She also seemed to become Thann's opposite, where he was cold she became warm and caring. Where he didn't believe in fooling around, she became a bit of a jokester to help lighten the man's heart. By the time he had practically raised her as his own Esmeray had become a playful, warm, caring spitfire. No longer willing to put up with the shit her family put her through. But there was one part of Thann's personality that she developed exactly the same of. The patience and respect for the land of the dead and the spirits within and the desire to not let anyone close.
If there was anyone who would understand loss and death better than anything, it would be the Chosen of Death. Being visited by so many spirits of those who just passed within the walls wanting to get one final message to their loved ones... it was something that tore at Emery's heart every time. It's why Thann always said her warmth and desire to help and care for others would always be a weakness of hers. That's why she built a wall as to not let anyone too close, but it didn't help that she still cared. She always would, no matter what sort of facade she put on.
History
The Lionsun family was well known within the community for worshipping what they believed to be the good and lighter Gods; including the Goddess of Life, the Goddess of Light, the Goddess of Water, and the Goddess of Earth. They tolerated those of the other gods except for anyone who has a clear link to the God of Shadow or the God of Death. To them, those two God's are responsible for the evil within the world and they loved to preach this to those who listened to them. Which is why they were ecstatic when they found out they were expecting, it would be a child to preach their ideals to so they could be passed on.
Their excitement only grew upon the birth of the child. To see their newborn son open his eyes and have them be glowing blindly along with a mark next to his eye, it meant their son was the Chosen One of Light. Unfortunately for them, a second child had been conceived at the same time and their son had a twin. A twin sister born with the marks of a skeleton, the mark of the Chosen One of Death. If it wasn't for the fame that would come from two Chosen children, they'd abandon their daughter by the wall or somewhere to be found so they wouldn't have to deal with a disgusting child but instead, they chose to keep her to earn extra fame. So it became that the Lionsun family had produced two Chosen children, Sammael and Esmeray.
Sammael was considered the golden child, always receiving the praise of his parents. Considering his parents' devotion to the Goddess of Light they practically revered him and spoiled him rotten, almost always getting what he wanted. Though with the reverence came pressure to uphold the image his parents held of him, that of a perfect child. From a young age, he was forced into classes that ranged from etiquette to combat. He tended to excel in fighting, physically and magically, but ironically for the element, he was chosen to represent he lacked in the ability to perform healing magic effectively. The amount of pressure put on him by his parents to succeed caused him to begin growing more and more distant from his sister and his personality to become more volatile.
Esmeray was considered nothing more than an object for personal gain. In person, she was shown as receiving love and kindness from her parents but upon the door closing behind them when they entered the family house... that's when the truth about how she was seen came out. Mental abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse. The girl was put through it all from a young age, treated like the dirt they thought she was. Lucky to be allowed to even leave the house to be trained by the Chosen One. At first, though, it was only her parents who did such horrid things to her. Sammael's mind not yet twisted by his parents to make him treat her in such a way, it's one thing she missed of the innocence of childhood... having an actual brother.
When they were only young children the two enjoyed to play with each other, Sammael nice enough to share his toys with his sister. The two even loved to play with their familiars together, often sneaking out to run around the streets at night so Esmeray didn't risk being seen with her 'horrific markings' as her mother put it. They cared and took care of one another until part of the way through the year after their 8th birthday, then Sammael began to be like her parents. Only Sammael knows what changed, Esmeray can only guess.
The reason for Sammael's distaste for his sister was simple in his mind. In his parents' effort to have become the best, he became the best, in his own mind at least. He didn't want anyone stopping his progress towards power. But his sister was oddly undaunted by the abuse and problems in her life, she was able to remain happy. This, oddly enough, scared Sammael. He was worried about being overtaken by his sister in some way despite their parents' negative outlook on her. He didn't want to be defeated by her, so he followed in his parents' footsteps and began to put her down.
It was when her brother turned to her that she realized she truly had no real family to rely on. It became Esmeray vs. the world, but she wouldn't let anything they did get to her. She refused to become the victim of the game no matter how much her parents and brother tried tearing and knocking her down. Instead, she stood strong and silent, taking everything they could throw at her without showing emotion or fear. It messed with her parents and Sammael's minds and only made them treat her worse but she didn't care, it was her life. Although a part of her always hated that it was and wished for better things, it was the part of her that the abuse got through too. A big part of her that hid underneath the rest of her walls of protection.
Of course, as they got older and trained more the siblings' relationship only got worse. Sammael grew to believe more and more about being the best while Esmeray learned what real family was through Thann, the Old Chosen of Death. They only grew to be more and more different, the golden child and devil child developing their abilities that basically clashed on a natural level. Said abilities only strengthening their parent's views on them which just caused them to dislike each other more and more by the day and grow more distant every hour.
Nowadays when forced to interact the two only seem to glare at each other, mainly Sammael glaring and Esmeray ignoring but occasionally a glaring contest breaks out. They also get into what people to believe is a 'teasing match' but truly it is just verbal abuse from Sammael and Esmeray not taking his shit. Of course there is also the fact Sammael basically helps to lead the emotions of distrust and hate towards the Chosen and Disciples of Death after all the events too, which only causes an air of tension between the two siblings that feels so thick that it almost feels as if not even a sword could cut it.
So basically a familiar is like a monster summon, they are specifically a creature of the chosen ones element that is almost a gift from the god in a way as it doesn't rely on the chosen ones mana or magic. Sentient magic so to speak. It has its own store. They can summon themselves and tend to stay in small, 'baby' form for the most part. It can grow to its full form when it is needed to help fight and if it was to 'die' it would just burst into smoke in a way and would then take a while before it can reappear. The familiars also have the ability to speak.
The sun rose over the horizon, shining through the fresh dew in the field of grass next to Fawn’s house. Making the grass shine as if every blade had its own personal crystal, a beautiful view she lived for. Across the field she could see the forest where the morning’s light rays were finally breaking through the leaves as a light fog rolled across the ground just adding to the beauty of her view. Staring at the view allowed her to escape from her current pain as she sat with her legs pulled up to her chest, arms wrapped gently around them.
“Your angry face is all I see Your hand ready to strike my face As I put my arms up To protect myself from your harm I don't know what I did wrong”
In the field she saw a butterfly fluttering around, the light reflecting off its beautiful orange wings. The small girl wished she could become the butterfly and just fly around like it did. Explore the world and escape hers. But she knew it wasn’t possible, for now Fawn had no choice but to deal with the hand she was dealt in life.
“All I said was no And your hand come flying at me Your hand is left on my face I don't know If this was to teach me Or if this was just your anger”
With a small sigh escaping the girl’s lips she grabbed the shoes that were sitting next to her and slipped them on before pushing herself up. Fawn then gently pulled on a big, baggy cardigan that covered the whole length of her arms successfully also covering a single dark bruise on her right bicep. It was only one of a few bruises she had currently, she had been getting lucky recently. Her parents too distracted with their business that they didn’t notice the things she did ‘wrong’ in their eyes as much so she wasn’t as bruised as she has been before.
“Your mouth is all I see Your words hit my ears like bullets I plug my ears Just to erase it all But I still hear the cursing It stings into my heart And I don't know I don't know Who I am”
Fawn began her walk to school, she had left so she had enough time to take it slow. Enjoy the sights and not overdo it. On her way there she took a bit of a break looking in through the window of a pastry shop wishing she had money to get something but she didn’t so she eventually got moving again. Her mind wrapped up in thoughts of sweets and pastries and how good they will be when she can finally afford to spend some money on them.
“I don't know anymore All I know is I am a girl left in ruins I am a girl without feelings I am a girl without love and hope I am a girl who was destroyed”
Eventually she arrived to the school over an hour later pausing to stare at the entrance. Entering the school and making it through the halls were always a bit hard for the girl. It had to do with the fact Fawn was so small and silent that she went unnoticed or people didn’t care if they pushed her around which just made it very difficult for her to get to her locker and classes. Taking a deep breath, the tiny girl put on her determined face, which looked a bit silly on her, and began her walk to her locker. It took about six minutes but eventually she got her stuff out of her locker and began the trek to the homeroom classroom, which took another six minutes despite being right down the hall.
A bit out of sorts, her hair slightly messy from people just pushing her around, Fawn made her way to the table she usually sits at with Henry, Min-seo, and Parker setting her stuff on the table before sitting down. She pulled her whiteboard out and set the marker on it before pulling out her math homework and staring down at it. She had only remembered she had it during her walk to school and now she had to complete it during homeroom, which seemed impossible to the young deer as math and her did not get along unless the math pertained to something within chemistry. She tried to remember what the notes given to her by the teacher said, what she read of the teacher's lips during the class, and what her special tutor 'told' her during her class that is specifically for kids with something that is hindering their learning. Unfortunately her head was drawing a blank so she simply stared at the paper hoping something would come back to her.
@Virani You may apply for any spot that says it is open. Multiple people may apply for the same position and us GMs will decide upon which application/character is a better fit for the roleplay. @jynmi88 The other GMs and I are currently discussing all of this and we will let you know our decision around these suggestions along with the range that the powers/abilities could fall under. @Grnmachine For the most part your character is looking good. There are just a few things we noticed. The first is regarding the steam manipulation. Steam manipulation would be something that could only happen if he mixed magic with the fire chosen. The second is in regards to you having Jonah be in his early stages of developing his powers. This kind of falls on us as we forgot to mention it prior to now, something I will be fixing by adding a need to know section to the first post. But Jonah needs to be further along with development of his powers for two main reasons, first is that by the beginning of the roleplay the previous chosen ones will be dead(either you can decide how as part of your history or leave their death to the plot line) thus leaving Jonah with his full power. The second is that the gms and I decided, and forgot to mention, that the usual time that training begins is age 10 so Jonah most likely has about 9 years of training under his belt. Of course that doesn't mean he is fully training and done with training, but he wouldn't be in the early stages of developing his powers.
