Current Sorry I haven't been on in a few days, guys! I'm feeling sick, so going to retire, but will hopefully have time after work tomorrow.

Plans for today: clean, reply to Guild messages, work on belated Christmas gift. Repeat. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Ah, 3a.m. We meet again. My sleep schedule's become really screwy, and it's messing with my ability to keep up with things. I promise I'm keeping a running tally of my PMs; responses may just be slow.

Today's agenda: 30 minutes of cleaning, 20 minutes of crochet/reading/Guild time; repeat until either house looks less terrifying or it is dark outside.

Yesterday, was dispirited because my interest check wasn't getting any hits. Today, bumped it and came back to three messages, TWO of them referencing The Princess Bride. [delighted cackling]

From her seat near the center of the group, Alex listened.

More accurately, Alex listened, fiddled with one of the leather cords on her bracelet, and thought, I am never going to hear the end of this. Between her mother, her brother, and her best friend, the guilt trips would be legion. Only her father would spare her.

Maybe I’ll die, she thought, and then no one will be able to yell at me about my life choices—and then felt immediately guilty, no filial help necessary. Death was not a joke, and neither was their situation. Things were about to get a lot more dangerous than the search-and-rescue, disaster-relief type jobs she’d been doing as she finished up her training. She skimmed her eyes over the other Guardians gathered here, but couldn’t tell at a glance if they were any more or less prepared than she was.

As the director wrapped up her speech and opened the floor for questions, Alex reached into the backpack sitting at her feet and plucked out the cup that was poking from the top. She let the taste of chocolate and raspberry ground her for a moment, listening to the redheaded woman ask her question. It was a probably a fair one, if not something Alex herself would have dared to ask.

Everyone has a right to be afraid. She took another sip of her mocha, starting to wish she’d opted for the larger size—because the more people talked, the more this was starting to feel like a sixteen-ounce sort of problem—and listened to the silence as they all waited to be reassured.
Hi, guys! I'm working on my post, but I'm going out for a bit, so it'll have to get finished when I get home. So excited by the start so far! Alex is just listening for the moment, so it should be easy to jump in even if there are more posts when I get back.

Happy writing!
Yay! Hello, everybody! So glad we've all been properly introduced now, and more than excited for this party to get started!
Oops! I misread what WeepingLiberty wrote on Friday. I guess what she meant was that if we hadn't heard from the no-shows by tonight, she'd open the role-play to one more person and then we could get started.

Sigh. Was so excited. xD
@GeliophobHyena @Jinxer @Dubwarlock

Hi, all! Nice to "meet" you more officially. :) I am really wishing I had picked a username that better lent itself to nicknames; I spent forever trying to choose. All my old handles were outdated and pretty damn embarrassing.

Anyway, to mimic some of the other people who added a bit more about themselves: I'm 24, graduated a year ago with a degree in English, and read/watch a lot of genre fiction that would shame some of my former professors. (Some, but not all: my favorite lit teacher let me write a seven-page paper about Buffy the Vampire Slayer for my final, thus cementing her as my favorite.) Right now, I just work part-time, usually three to four days a week, so I should be able to drop in pretty regularly!

@ViridianHue,@redbaron1234, want to join in on the intro party? :) And if I've missed anyone, I'm sorry!
IT WAS. And it's not like the replies with my IM partner are instant--she and I can deliberate for a long time. xD But it's nice to be online at the same time and shoot out posts as soon as they're done.

What about you, @Mcmolly, do you have anything you prefer to be called (even if it's just a shortening of your Guild name), or would you rather everybody use your full handle, like in @mentions?

ETA: I work with kids, so I just got in the habit of checking with everyone re: names--I know that the name I'm given when a student signs in is not always the name he or she likes to be called at home. (And believe me, if there's anyone who's going to tell you a nickname and then become mortally offended if you forget, it's a five-year-old.)
Hi i'm GeliophobHyena (get the joke?). Or Josh. You can call me whatever you like,

I'm doing well thank you! :D and yourself? [@LadyHoratio]

Hi, Josh! (If you have no preference, that's just way faster to type. xD) I took a guess at the joke, but had to look up "geliophobic" to be sure. I'm good! Glad to see somebody else lurking around the forum. It's been a long time since I forum-role-played--back in Ye Olde Neopets days, if anybody else got their start there--so it's been an adjustment as a I get used to the difference in pacing! I like to think of myself as being fairly patient, IRL, but when it comes to roleplaying, my id reigns supreme. I've been spoiled by the near instant-gratifcation of posting in IM with my long-term rp friends, and while you could not pay me enough to go back to the Neo-Forums these days, I did like the way a lot of role-plays were handled there: it was like a pickup game of basketball; you just posted your intro, saw who was interested, and started with whoever was online (If there were enough people, of course.)

I do like the way the interest checks work here, so that you both have time to recruit enough people and then have the chance to get to know everyone and plan accordingly before the role play's set up.

How is your weekend going?
Thank you, Spek! @The_Full_Spektrom

Now that we're all getting ready to start the role play, it would make sense to go about introducing ourselves, wouldn't it? My real name is Marcie, so please feel free to call me that! If for some reason you're more comfortable with a nickname, any variation of my Guild handle will do just fine. (Though if you're going to shorten it, I'd sooner answer to "Lady" than "Horatio." :P)

Does anyone else have a naming preference? How's everybody doing?
I'm going to go ahead and take this opportunity to crash, but I'll hopefully catch some of you guys tomorrow night! And then Sunday, of course. Night, all!
So how is everyone?

I'm pretty good, thanks! :) I'll sadly have to follow the trend soon and seek my bed--I don't know how it wound up that tomorrow I am willingly getting up before noon on a Saturday, but I suspect there was witchcraft involved. I'm super excited for this rp to take off, though; it looks like we have a fun group, both character-wise and writer-wise! How are you?
