Captain Delaney looked at those addressing him and then glanced down the dock; not many boats left.”My ship is moored at the edge of the dock; go to it quickly, I'll join you as soon as I can.” He then took a step back toward his dear old friend Nicholas on the edge of the harbor, stooping down beside him with a wicked smile. "So, just going to wait here for king and country to save you? Or just planning to down your bourbon before the battle hits the waves?"
... on the docks...
"See? I told you! Let's go!" Pebble said to Emilia before letting go of her hand and running off alone to the Domina Artemis; he'd known all along that the good Captain would save them, he'd known all along! This would truly be his chance to show how great a pirate he was; how great a pirate he was born to be.
@Hazy Aside from being a wanted criminal now, Ulysses was in the royal navy for all of a few minutes as a teenager; he ran away at his first opportunity and joined a band of pirates. Maybe he and Nicholas crossed paths back then? :D something a lil more personal than simple cops and robbers always makes things interesting.
@Hazy@Garth Delaney directed civilians into boats as best he could, and tried to make sure boats were full before they left so as not to leave too many stranded. He didn't care much who owned the boats, though some poor fishermen followed his example and invited families to escape with them on their boats. He'd just finished helping a family onto a prawn troller when a stern voice came from behind him; he spun around to met it, and saw the face of a near-forgotten rival. He grinned wickedly at him and hopped of the troller, untying the already loose moor securing the boat to the dock. ”Sail out to sea until dawn and let the current carry you North; best of luck.” He said to the you sailor on board. They saluted before the man took the helm and was off. Finally Delaney seemed to devote his attention to Nicholas, still smiling deviously. "Too busy saving your own scrawny neck to save your king, Sir Blackwell? I suppose I understand that; after all you did save your true love." Ulysses tapped the tip of his sword against the bottle of bourbon. Not being terribly concerned with Blackwell, Delaney turned his attention to the man offering to help. "Go back to the homes on the waterfront; there's time and ships yet for us. Make sure no one is hiding inland, they'll surely die if they stay." As he was speaking he returned his sword to it's sheath.
... the harbor...
@Zazou31 Pebble nodded nervously and took her hand, following her down to the waterfront. He recognized Ulysses and knew he had to be the one helping others escape, but he didn't know either of the men speaking to him. Pebble tugged Emilia's arm to get her attention; ”That's Captain Delaney, he'll help us! Come on, I know which ship is his.” He lead her to the Domina Artemis, a galleon moored a ways down the dock. ”He'll let us on for sure, he knows me!”
