Bio

About me as a player.
When I make a character I consider every aspect of the character—and the context of the universe it's in—from its nature and demeanor, to its ambitions and motivations; and quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. Did I need to say all that? No, not really, but I felt like correctly using 'and' five times in a sentence. The reason I give such consideration to these characters is because I come to RP to for the challenge of being someone other than myself. What I would do in a character's situation does not interest me, and it's not the point. Knowing the character as well as I know myself means I can do what the character would do and really feel the weight of those choices.

About me as an author.
I consider all play-by-post games I play in to be a form of interactive, co-authored stories, where in the characters all play a part; and as a consequence all authors play a part. When I engage in collaborations I try to make my character's goals and motivations as clear as possible to the other authors I'm engaging with, and trust they will respect the game and not meta-game that knowledge (particularly: Using out of character knowledge to make in-character decisions). I've observed that this is the most difficult line for other players to walk and I find myself entering into collabs sparingly with anyone I've witnessed not delivering on a pattern of excellence in this regard.

About me as a person.
I have years of experience in LARP, Table-Top, MUDs & MMOs and more. I've been role-playing longer than the average millennial has been alive, and have played just about every kind of character—in every kind of medium—there is. I've also written a bit of fan-fiction (FiMFiction) and original fiction, as well as served as a serious editor for both. I don't mention my experience to brag. It's just a fact. I'm not being modest either since I don't believe in it. Modesty and Arrogance are two sides of the same coin. Understating one's abilities is just as dishonest as overstating them. Doing either is a sign of insecurity, and a deception perpetrated with the intent to garner respect or sympathy. If I'm starting to sound like a super villain, well, there is a reason why.

Noah is functioning normally again per my last post. If civilians aren't getting info, that's not my fault :P.

@Peaceless
Though my char is the chief of engineering, he's also still E7 in the army, which means he which would make ~40,000 a year (modern money), while the average statistician (something I could do after college, if I got my masters in statistics) makes about twice that. With the same level education as the statistician (4 years undergrad, 2 year masters), a high-school teacher (in the state I live in) would make about the 3/4ths that as the E7 army guy.

Status and Rank are fucked up constructs in our society. Don't think about them or you'll hurt yourself.
@Subject Zero I'm glad you went with the medic, because the mechanic was not only very similar to my character, it is also very similar to @Peaceless's character as well.
So @Rawk sent me a link to this and asked if I was interested in joining. If you guys are still accepting, I think I would be very much interested. But if I do, are there any specific roles that still need filling?

As it's been explained to me when I joined, you need to read the OOC main post explaining the setting, and such, and then create a character that fits in that setting, and then post it here (in OOC). I did that and was accepted.
@LegionPothIX

@Sep is correct, it is definitely a cover. Maintenance crew is the easiest way to blend into a ship Chizuru doesn't actually want to take down. If Xaith knows all maintenance crew by heart he will find her out fairly easily, but hiding indefinitely was never the plan. It was an impulsive "board first, ask questions later" thing.

You may all wait for my first IC before deciding retrospectively about the whole boarding thing. I'd've done it today but it's been kind of a crazy weekend and I'm glad I at least managed to get a sheet in before getting pounced by chores and mandatory socializing and whatnot.

Lt. Rorq, the NPC I've been talking about, handles all the personnel management, and Xaith only looks up a file when it's relevant. There's no reason to believe he has done so yet, as it hasn't become relevant for him to do so. As for Rorq I won't get into her strengths specifically here, as I've yet to really flesh out her (NPC) character, but they're not the same as Xaiths, so there's every reason to believe she'll accept the cover. Furthermore, it's in her nature to assume a person can do what their file says they can, and will offer assignments accordingly.

As a member of the Engineering staff, you would have been present for everything that happened in engineering thus far (unless you decide not to have been) so feel free to use any of that. Also, if you want to use Rorq directly (who is still presently in Main Engineering), I can go into more detail regarding her leadership styles, and such, for you. Lt. Rorq is the second in command of the department, and acts more as Co-Chief than subordinate as many of the duties of chief engineer are things Xaith can't be arsed to do and delegates them to her.
@Sep I'm actually going to create a sheet for Lt. Rorq at some point so everyone can get a look at she works, and then anyone can still use her with a better understanding as to how she thinks and behaves.
Reporting in.

Thanks for the template, @LegionPothIX.

Now to figure out how to join the IC...

You're welcome, I'll read through your character and give you some pointers on where we are, and where you might be able to slip in. So far, Iron reads like a security, or anti-boarding combat specialist, and not a technician/engineer. Specifically, being in engineering doesn't make the best use of the character's talents, and skills, nor does it forward her goals and aspirations. She may hear that the Chief Engineer is a bit tech obsessed himself, and is the go-to guy for wacky off the wall applications of tech, but being an engineer just doesn't sound like the cloth she's cut from.

They had given her the technology to override this decision, to stowaway on the Ark and plant herself in the database of the maintenance crew of the ship. This would do, for a start.

I should mention this is never going to work against Xaith, as it's his strength that computers can hide nothing from him. On the flip side, his apathy regarding bureaucracy means he's not going to care how she came on-board once she's actually there.

@Peaceless the only person realistically who could probably get a full account, if anyone, would be Locke . Though I'll leave this up to you however that's only if you want him to as I doubt these files are available on the Vitae, as I was leaving it upto @LegionPothIX (Though I haven't asked him yet) if Locke has actually seen Xaiths full record.

I was thinking that they would be (Xaith's files), and would have adaptive decryption, meaning it's all there, and you only have access to what you need to know at any given time. If you need to know something, you tell the computer (not NO4H) why you need to know it (colab with me) and we'll get you the info.

As for the Daedalus project specifically, it sounds like it could have been something in direct competition with Live Wire, one of Xaith's military projects that was scrapped (the point of which was to addapt the EEGARD to allow technicians to control robot soldiers, rather than just reference databases, but found the robot soldiers were were too easily hack-able resulting in the project being canned).

With Xaith's security clearance, it may be something he was aware of, but not personally involved in. If @Peaceless wants to go the engineering route, instead of security, I could easily see this being the reason why she would have been recruited into his team (as this plays to one of his ambitions).
@vietmyke it's fine. No problem.
@Sep Confusion is a form of education.

@Boomlover Cross training, and Lateral Advancement options are available to you. Hell, they're the entirety of Xaith's service history.
@Sep I don't consider the attention a downside, I'm just still not feeling at my best right this second, which makes me feel like what I'm posting isn't good either. I feel the changes I made to that last post brought its quality up considerably though.
Why did no one respond to theodore :(

Sorry Boomtown I got distracted being pulled in so many directions and I didn't know how to make it fit. I guess that's what happens when you (meaning I) miss almost 4 days.

@Sep The information's there, and I read it once, but I guess I forgot they don't have shields. I've had an ear infection for a couple days and am not thinking clearly. I made sweeping changes to that part of my IC post, to bring it back up to some semblence of standard, and into accordiance with @vietmyke's wishes.
