Bio

Not born in a log cabin, I came into the RPing venture around 2009 and quickly joined about twenty roleplays more than I should have at the time. I've been around the internet in that time span, participated in and run RPs on multiple forums, and brushed shoulders with a wide variety of players and characters. Getting to work with new people has always been part of the allure of the experience.

My interests in RPing are pretty diverse, and not genre-specific; if there's room at the table and I can think of a dish to serve, I'll cook something up for just about any meal. If you know what I mean.

Oh. I forgot I mentioned her starting college at a specific age. I'll get on that ASAP.
I thought age 30 was typical college age in the RP canon?

That morning...

Bzzt... Bzzt... Bzzt...

The phone's buzzing resonated against the surface of Alex's nightstand, rattling ever so slightly as the case bounced against the hard laminate. Eyes already half open, the young woman rolled wistfully onto her side, where she met the telling gaze of the bedside clock. She rubbed her eyes gently, and confirmed that the '6:00' was for real.

Bzzt... Bzzt... Bzzt...

Her gaze fell then to her vibrating phone, which seemed to grow increasingly insistent with each consecutive ring. Curiosity overcoming her half awake mind, Alex reached for the device. "Of course," she yawned. "Professor de la Rosa" read clearly across the top of the screen. She couldn't have been surprised even if she tried; the Professor was the only person (other than, perhaps, her parents) who would be trying to reach her so early in the morning. It was rare, of course, that this did happen; Alex knew it had to be something urgent.

Her finger swept quickly across the screen in a single motion with it pressing against her ear. "Good morning Professor," she said, sleepily.

"Wait, what?" as usual for an early morning call,, the Professor was beside herself with excitement. "Yeah. I can get in early today. Is it an emergency?

"Important, but not an emergency. Got it. I'll be in at around ten... OK. Yes. I'll see you then. Bye."

She ended the call, dropping the phone back onto her nightstand, and rolled spread eagle onto her back. She heaved a deep sigh, which intertwined with a pump of laughter. How de la Rosa had so much energy so early was beyond her. It was comical, in its own way.

With a shrug, and no further thought on it, Alex pulled herself out of bed; the sooner she could meet with the Professor, the better, and she wasn't the quickest when it came to getting ready.

Dressed and packed for a day's work, Alex descended to the foyer of her apartment. Taking a quick hit out of a pen-sized vaporizer from her chest pocket, she set out the door, curious of de la Rosa's plan for the day.

Cool. So she would look around 12-13 years old and have the mental maturity of at least an 18 year old.

I'll have time to settle in to write an intro post tonight.

School ages are a little more flexible, depending on if you started college early or not. Also, people can start college later in life, so the upper age is really up to you. That said, I'd say age 34 would be about the earliest someone would already be a college graduate (at a normal college at least, not a quick technical program). Which would be looking around 11 with the mental maturity of a 17 year old.

I'm settling on making Alex 35, and a year or so out of college; in essence, she'd be starting her journey as a trainer a later than would be the standard in the RP's world (mostly because she never really considered it).
So, within the world of the RP, if I were to keep with my current theme of a post-graduate trainer, I'd be looking at a 35-36 year old?
This might be a bit nitpicky on my part, but if college age in this world is around 30, does that mean the rest of peoples' education is offset?

IE high school in their mid to late 20s?
Name: Alexandra Herrera ("Alex")
Age: 35
Home: Worcester, Massachusetts >>> Morrison, Colorado
Appearance:

Personality: Generally put off by the chaos and calamity of the "busy life," Alex has grown into something akin to a free spirit. She can be rather aloof, though not in a ditzy way, especially when caught well out of her elements. She absorbs wholly into the subjects and hobbies that excite or interest her, even if it comes at the expense of a social life and most relationships with fellow humans. Even so, she isn't brash or dismissive of others; she doesn't act invalidating or condescending. Rather, she is genuinely, and at times endearingly, ignorant of a some social norms, a trait that she is aware of to the point of taking comical passes at herself over it. What she lacks in her ability to connect with most other humans, she might very well make up for when it comes to wildlife, especially Pokémon, which she seems to have genuinely strong bonds with, and understands on a level that many others. Pokémon are among the only living beings Alex will venture off her beaten path to engage with, and she will more readily put herself in harm's way to rescue one in peril than she would most other people. This often serves a point of friction between her and her peers, though she's quick in her endeavor to justify by any means necessary.

Overall, she follows a strict doctrine of inward focus, opting not to allow the toils and strains of others to impact her course.

Biography: Formerly from central Massachusetts, Alex originally moved to Boulder, Colorado at the age of 18 in the interest of pursuing higher education, and escaping to an environment that "brought her peace."

After a year at University of Colorado in Boulder, she transferred her studies to Naropa University where she sought a degree in environmental studies while exercising her academic pursuits through spiritual focus, and doing a web-based program in Zoology through another institution. Alex's long standing interest in nature, the outdoors, and Pokémon, lead to her to seek employment at the Denver Zoo, where she apprenticed through college under PokéZoologist Professor Sylvia de la Rosa, whose research focuses chiefly on Pokémon behavior, with an emphasis on researching differences between those in the wild and those in captivity. She would continue to work in this position through her time in college.

Following her graduation, Alex was promoted to being one of Professor de la Rosa's assistants. As an assistant, she frequently accompanied the Professor out into the areas surrounding the city, wherein rolling plains gave way to the Rocky Mountains. Alex, being one with a knack for photography, would take frequent pictures at the Professor's request. On occasion she would assist in the field observations, though she was generally responsible for comping de la Rosa's notes. Mundane as the work might have been, Alex was happy to be of help, and was equally enthralled in her own research in regional variances within Pokémon species.

While she enjoyed her work with Professor de la Rosa, Alex longed to be able to strike out on her own in order to expand upon her own research. When she learned that the Zoo would soon be starting a project to fund an aspiring Pokémon researcher to go out into the field, she began to polish and consolidate her own notes, photos, and videos, hoping to submit them to the board responsible for allocating the funds and earn their approval.
