Current At least 35 people dead and who knows how many injured. But sure, mask your politics with a sorry attempt at comedy.

Loving my new DL photo, hair and make-up right before the appointment played a huge part.

I'm picky with RPs, but man, even trying to get a 1x1 going is tough.

@Noogget You’re playing a very risky game, my dear. Even I am not crazy enough to pull off such stunt.

Nathalie Prescott & Damien Crawford

Damien smiled at the compliment Nathalie had given him on the flowers. He hoped Rose would accept them as she definitely deserved them. Just like Nathalie deserved to be treated for lunch today. He pulled out his wallet as if to answer her question.

"That's what I actually hoping for. This meeting at the mall could be our little secret I guess." Damien joked.

"Don't worry, it'll be-"

She was cut off by the woman behind the counter calling out the next person. Nathalie took a step forward, looking at the menu for a quick second as she had been distracted prior to that.

"May I have the teriyaki chicken with a side of fried rice and veggies please? That'll be all." Nathalie then sidestepped out of Damien's way, allowing him to place his order.

He took a step forward, with his eyes scanning over the menu.

"Pepper steak with just a side of fried rice. And I'll be paying for the both of us… To-go." Damien made sure to mention. "I'm guessing you were going to say it will be… our little secret in agreement?" Damien smirked.

"Yeah, something along those lines. Thanks for paying by the way, the next one is on me." In a way, Nathalie felt a bit guilty given that he was currently unemployed and she made six figures. But some men were chivalrous regardless of their financial status, something she admired.

"Don't worry. I'd say we're even." Damien smiled to ensure that he was perfectly fine with paying. "And there will definitely be a next one though." Once the food was paid for and received, Damien made a nod for the nearest mall exit that would get the two to the hospital. "So have you always lived here in Ember Grove? I might need someone to show me the sights around here."

They received the food, and Nathalie briskly made her way towards the exit, glad she hadn't taken too long at the mall. "I haven't been here too long, not even a full year. My ex-fiancé moved us here and that caused some problems for us. Now I'm pretty much alone here but eventually, I'll move back to Chicago. But what about you, what's your story?"

"My story? Well to keep it short. I left home trying to find a nice place to plant my feet. I've been all over the country taking odd jobs here and there on the way… then a close friend recommended Ember Grove for a few reasons. It was small, quiet, and would give me a chance to apologize to an old friend." Damien motioned the bouquet upwards to bring attention to it. "I'm sorry by the way… And you don't have to be alone. After our meal, you can count me as a friend… maybe an associate if we want to be realistic." Damien said as the two reached the automatic sliding doors of the hospital.

"The thought is very much appreciated, thank you. I know a couple of people here but that's about it. I can't do much about that given my unpredictable schedule, you know."

As Nathalie talked, she led him down the hall to the cafeteria. She was glad she wasn't needed since she stepped out, otherwise she would have had to explain herself. "Alright, the cafeteria is right through those doors. Why don't you get us a table and I'll go grab you an application. It won't take me longer than a couple of minutes."

"Sure." Damien replied before making his way into the cafeteria. He was surprised at how well kept the facility was. He assumed since it was established in a small town, the hospital would be underfunded. Holding their lunch, Damien took a seat at the third table from the doors and sat facing the very same doors. He placed the plastic bag with their food on the table and took a moment to take out their meals. So far so good. I have a chance working close to the busiest area of the city. Close to the church, the mall, and Alexei's… and then I'll have her. Nathalie. Someone who I can actually be seen interacting with without raising suspicion. She's only been here about a year, but she can still be a good source for info on the local area.

Nathalie chuckled once Damien mentioned his retail store troubles, albeit a little too loudly to the point where it drew the attention of the those individuals standing within earshot. She cleared her throat to contain herself, allowing him to continue to speak, even as he went on to address the bouquet of flowers. So he'd noticed she had noticed as well, but she couldn't do much except offer some words of encouragement. He was visibly upset for a moment, and Nathalie couldn't help but feel empathetic for his situation.

"For what it's worth, the flowers are beautiful so I'm sure your friend will at least appreciate the gesture. I purchased a bouquet for myself a couple of days ago, and they really do help brighten up my apartment."

Coincidentally, just as Nathalie was reaching for her wallet, Damien posed his question. She considered her options momentarily, but in the end she knew she couldn't stick around.

"I would take you up on that offer, but I'm not even supposed to be here to be honest. Unless you don't mind taking the food back to the hospital and eating in the cafeteria. I could find you an application form so your trip is not wasted... It's up to you."

She hadn't been standing in line for too long, but long enough for her to wonder why the woman who was currently placing an order was taking longer than she should. Nathalie was both equally hungry and pressed for time, but the slightly timid woman didn't dare say a word regarding her thinning patience. She simply remained quiet, at least until a man standing behind her addressed her.

"Pleasure meeting you, Damien, I'm Nathalie," she replied after hearing him out. She couldn't help but notice he was tall and ridiculously handsome, his looks similar to those of male models one often sees in magazines. That was one of the reasons his inquiry struck her as a bit of an odd conversation starter, but on the other hand, the job market in a small town wasn't exactly prosperous. "I'm not sure what your options are in the hospital as a whole, but I know that my department has an administrative position available. I work in the ER, and I'd be more than happy to help you through the process. I mean, I'm assuming that's somewhere along your line of work."

She smiled a little, embarrassed at the fact that she had pegged him for an office type without first asking. But in her defense, Damien hadn't been specific about his professional skills. "Would you be interested in that offer?"

Out of the corner of her eye, Nathalie noticed the lined had moved up some. She took a step towards the cashier without giving her back to Damien, and for some reason she wondered whom the flowers were for.

The procedure didn't take all that long, and the victim was placed in post-op care after the fact to commence the recovery process. Given that her job was done, Nathalie decided to take some time to finally eat. She went to her office to grab some of her things, including her phone and wallet. She used to enjoy talking to her fiancé during her breaks, but now she kept the device on her primarily for emergency purposes. That, and the cardiology department recently moved locations while they were renovating the north wing, meaning she could use the phone to avoid having to talk to Jason since the two would be running into each other a lot more than before.

Nathalie made her way down the maze of hallways, seeing some of her colleagues on the way and greeting them quickly before picking up the pace again. She was risking a stern lecture from her superior for leaving the hospital grounds, but she was craving something other than the usual cafeteria food she often settled for. The mall was right across the street, and if she could get her hands on some Asian cuisine, she'd be set for the night.

A minute later, Nathalie looked both ways before jogging across the street, not bothering to use the pedestrian crosswalk. She passed a cop standing adjacent to a parked car who motioned towards the small intersection. She waved at him with a smile, knowing what he was implying. She was technically in the wrong, but the road was empty and all was forgiven. Nathalie continued to hurry across the parking lot to enter the mall through the food court area, her mind already made up regarding what she was going to get.

"Dr. Prescott!"

Nathalie was startled out of sleep, taking a second to realize she'd been woken up from a wildly vivid dream. Staring up at the nurse, she gathered herself before speaking. "Yes, what's wrong?"

"My apologies, didn't mean to scare you. We have an abdominal gunshot victim on the way, ETA 5 minutes. He 's in stable condition for now but has lost quite a bit of blood. The team is prepping up now."

"Thank you, Michael."

Nathalie rose up from the chair, straightening out her scrubs to the best of her abilities. She had fallen asleep at her desk from pure exhaustion due to her double shift. Her co-worker was out on vacation and she volunteered to fill in the gap, but in hindsight maybe she should have taken only half the shift. With a sigh, the young woman grabbed her half-empty water bottle and followed the nurse out into the hall. As they passed a bakery stand, Nathalie's stomach complained of hunger. She hadn't eaten anything since early in the morning, but it had been a hell of a busy night and day and she could only hope that the ER flow slowed down a little, at least until the following morning when she would finally be off.
