The alpha pokemon was dispatched fairly quickly with the number of people involved in the fight. Attack after attack was thrown at it. Himaru watched as William attempted to use his invention to catch the large beast and she almost sighed in relief, however the attempt was blocked by a child no less, who yelled at him for his attempt. She barely had time to process what was happening when the beast was permanently felled. She would have rathered a non-violent end to this fight. The beast had to have had a reason to be so close to the village, or at least being riled up, now they may never know.

“You…you killed it…” She didn’t direct this toward anyone in particular but she walked closer to the felled pokemon as she did and when she got closer to it she kneeled down next to it. She was aware that it had cost the life of humans, but the opportunity to catch it and end this with less life loss was completely blocked. Her mind finally unclouded after a short prayer and she stood turning toward the child, anger behind her eyes most people hadn’t seen in her before.

“It died because of you, I hope you know that." She was angry but she managed to refrain from yelling. She didn’t give the child a chance to respond, instead she turned to William to make sure he was okay. Ignoring any attempt to make an excuse. It had happened, there was no taking it back now, so arguing about it wouldn’t help now. One would think that an individual who speaks with spirits and ghost type pokemon on the regular would be more okay with death, which she was, but as a last option. In her eyes the child who blocked the pokeball forced death to be the only option.

“You okay Nelson?” She asked giving him a once over. They might not be friends but she still wanted to make sure he wasn’t hurt. It was also a way to make it clear to the foreign child that Himaru had no interest in speaking to her at this time. Zen floated over to her floating around her, sensing her distress. The Haunter had previously been floating around the various deceased people and pokemon, but had been shooed away by the remaining guards so he had returned to Himaru.

Princess Annalise spent the remainder of the night floating from one person to the next attempting to converse with each of the visiting nobles at least once before she became too drunk to have a decent conversation. Speaking with Erick was easy enough though she did end up losing their game. It seemed as though the Prince from the North was used to drinking a much heartier amount then she was. She supposed battle would do that to someone, he seemed to handle his drink much better than any of the nobles she had had the displeasure of sharing drinks with while attending court. Alvaro seemed nice if not distracted but his conversation was pleasant. Lastly, Vyarin was much more difficult to speak with, she had a grasp on his language, she had been studying the languages of the continent since she could, however her formal speech and his casual usage was hard to navigate at times, not to mention the lack of words in his language for some of there common items. But they seemed to manage well enough in the short time they conversed, she did her best to make him comfortable as she was sure her sisters also had. Annalise was aware that the Prozdy culture was vastly different from their own so with him being in a strange environment she had no doubt that he would take some time to adjust.

Though she had fun during the gathering and tried to avoid anything that would bring down the jovial mood she did still have to consider the options for herself and her country. Something she was far too inebriated to do afterward, instead she made her way to her room, significantly less gracefully than she normally would have, changed into her sleeping attire, and slept soundly on her bed. Awaking the next morning to light peeking through her curtains which she had failed to fully close the night before. She rolled over in her bed, covering her face with her pillow groaning into it as she felt a light headache forming. She had tried too hard to beat Erick only to still fail. She groaned again when she realized that meant she would have to honor his prize of her taking a ride with him. She hated riding if she were to be honest. Dresses and horses did not go well together and whereas she knew how to ride side saddle she still despised it, it was, after all, horribly uncomfortable. Maybe she would take a page out of Jin’s book and opt for pants.

Shaking her head she got up from her bed after a couple more minutes of sulking and readied herself for the day. Choosing some more casual attire for now, as she would be expected to dress up later in the night for the ball. Though the clothing was still impressive to the common folk, Annalise didn’t have a single outfit that didn’t make her stand out from a crowd, a fact she hated sometimes. Dressed and somewhat ready for the day, Annalise exited her room and headed to the dinning hall, where she knew breakfast would be laid out for the royal family and the visiting suitors. She had to adjust herself as she exited her room. She had an appearance to keep, after all, “The Light of Astalia” couldn’t be seen as anything but the level headed, confident presence she had adopted over the years. She couldn’t show the Court or the Servants any signs of weakness or doubt, especially now, when they were so close to securing the alliances they needed. So with a deep inhale she headed toward the dining hall. Arriving to see her father at the end of the table, eyebrows furrowed as he ate in relative silence. Meals were about the only time advisers and other members of the Court left him alone. She walked toward him, kissing him on the cheek before taking a seat a little ways away from him, eating her own breakfast. The two often sat in a comfortable silence before the rest of the family gathered. Though today the silence was filled with tension from both sides. Something neither would voice aloud. Annalise silently hoped one of her sisters, or even one of the suitors would arrive soon to alleviate some of the tension.

Zen consumed his food in a matter of minutes while Himaru seemed to take her time. She was in no rush to return to her stall after all. The pokemon floated around her impatiently until her attention was grabbed briefly by William greeting her. She waved at him politely in response, having just shoved some food in her mouth. He didn't stick around for long, not that she was expecting him to. Their relationship was mostly business when it came down to specifics. Regardless he was gone as fast as he showed up the doors opening to the commotion outside.

Himaru was partially inclined to ignore it, figuring the guard would probably be able to handle the situation but her partner made the decision for her, zipping out of the Inn and into the streets with little warning. With a heavy sigh the white haired female shoveled the rest of her food into her mouth, not wanting to waste anything, threw some money on the table to cover her food and a hefty tip seeing as Zen had caused some issues. She briskly followed out the door in time to see William throwing some coins at a large cat near the front gate, and Zen heading straight for the commotion as well. Maybe the mon had sensed something in the air this morning and that's why he had been acting so antsy today. No matter the reason Himaru had no real way to stop Zen from entering the fray. It was times like these that she regretted not using the pokeball invention. At least she would be able to call back her partner when he started to act up.

With a groan she followed her partner toward the battle, careful to remain farther away than the others but close enough that she could monitor Zen and still give him commands. "Zen Confuse Ray!" She called from her spot in the distance. The pokemon obliged and a dark purple ray shot from the Haunter, striking the large cat though not damaging it. Hopefully now the huge mon would be more likely to accidentally damage itself than the others fighting it. Making the fight easier for those involved. "Now's your chance before it shakes off the confusion, hit it will all you have!" Himaru yelled hoping the others would take the momentary advantage.

Himaru watched the sun rise from her mother's old fortune teller's stall. Normally she wasn't awake this early, however she was in need of a bit of extra coin so dusting off the old stall was the easiest way to do so, and the earlier she got started the more coin she could make. It wasn't often she set up shop, maybe once every few weeks. So when she was set up there was usually a steady stream of business throughout the day.

CRASH! Himaru turned around just in time to see that Zen, her partner Haunter, had decided today was the day he was going to be a mischievous pain in the butt. It seemed the pokemon had decided that knocking over one of the crystal balls was a fun activity this early in the morning. With a deep breath she walked over the the now shattered orb looking toward the shadow she knew the pokemon was hiding in. "That isn't very Zen of you." She couldn't help but chuckle at her own horrible joke as she started cleaning up the mess. "These aren't easy to get you know, and this is the third one you have broken since I took over." The pokemon eventually came out to help pick up the shards.

Himarua had considered getting a pokeball for Haunter but it had stuck with her mother as a Ghastly with little to no problems so she had ultimately decided there was no benefit to having one. She figured the contraption would only make Zen more mischievous and harder to keep a handle on when out. At least with it out and about he could blow off some steam by helping her with the more...showy parts of fortune telling. Giving him a job usually calmed him down enough to not terrorize her customers. After the mess was cleaned Himaru stood back up and grabbed the spare crystal ball she kept for emergencies. She would still need to get a new one later in case this one broke as well. Though it would take her a while to find and afford one.

It took her about an hour to set up and by the time she was done the sun had since risen and people were going about there daily business. There were already a few people outside the stall when she finally opened it up to customers so she got to work right away. Most people wanted simple palm or card readings. So it was more or less an easy morning. Some customers were people she knew, others were passing merchants. These individuals were her favorite to get, it was about the only perk to running her mother's old stall, the number of new people she met was greater than if she was simply cleansing homes of spirits or bad energies. She hadn't had much time to people watch but she had caught gossip of a foreigner entering the village, a man with a strange white Vulpix. She hopped the man would stop by her stall at least once while he was in town. Getting to meet him would likely prove interesting.

After about an hour or so her stomach growled and she realize that she and Zen had yet to eat today, so she temporarily closed her stall and headed toward the nearest Inn, which so happened to be Ryokan. The Inns always had the most interesting people so they tended to attract Himaru to them the easiest. She entered the Inn, ordered some food with Zen floating along behind her, and found herself a seat where she could people watch. There was an interesting bunch at one of the tables two people she didn't quite recognize speaking to William though she was too far to hear what they were talking about, she assumed business. After a few moments of sitting her food was delivered. Though it turns out she apparently hadn't been paying enough attention to Zen who had decided to scare the furret who brought out the food. Luckily it was after there food had been placed on the table. The creature scurried back to the kitchen and Himaru was left to scold her partner once again. He, ignored her and began eating his food and Himarua couldn't help but roll her eyes as she too began eating.

The Day of the Ball

The night went smoothly for the eight nobles gathered in the court of flowers. They drank and talked and made marry into the early hours of the evening when, eventually it was advised that they all return to their quarters. The day ahead of them was to be an important one. Many of the members of the court would be joining them in the evening for the ball the king had planned. The eight nobles would be watched with varying opinions. The ball was not set until after sundown, so they had until then to prepare themselves or do anything else they wished to do, however none were permitted to leave the castle grounds without at least one Astalian guard escorting them, mostly to ensure that they do not get lost and also that they return to the castle in a timely manner to attend the ball.

King Harold spent the night of the gathering polishing up the last of the details for the ball. All seemed fine, however when he awoke a messenger was waiting to deliver a message that he had been worried was coming. A rolled parchment with the seal of the Gilthan Empire was placed in his hand almost as soon as he opened the door to his chambers. Harold blinked at the scroll for several seconds before looking at the individual who handed it to him. Before he could speak the man spoke. “The Court Wizards checked it for any sign of magic before I was permitted to bring it to you.” The King nodded and waved the man off. It seemed the messenger was waiting for the queue as he turned on his heel and rushed back down the hallway.

The old King broke the seal of the scroll carefully, as if a snake would jump out at him as soon as he was done breaking it, or if he broke it the wrong way, despite being sure his Mages were more than capable of detecting any magical traps.

I greet you King Harold of Astalia

It has come to my attention that Astalia, and the remaining “free” countries have decided it was time to join together in holy matrimony in an attempt to band together and defeat the growing Empire. The King with no Heir. The fallen Sun and the broken Moon. You think this move will save you from the might of The Sovereign, but you have only gathered all the heirs into one location. How will your countries hold if they lose the next rulers? How fast will the other countries turn on Astalia if their heirs perish under Astalian protection? Call off this foolish attempt to make a stand.

You have been warned.

The King handed the letter to the nearest guard. “Burn this. The Empire is trying to scare us. The attempt of a faceless ruler who knows what the remaining counties united will result in their downfall.” The guard nodded and the letter was placed into the closest source of fire as Harold walked into the dinning hall where breakfast was prepared for the royal family as well as the visiting suitors at their convenience. He took his place at the end of the table before anyone entered and began eating in silence.
