It's not about being a kid-free place, far from it. It's about having some standards. One Nat is enough. Every wonder why Spam is so quiet these days?

Firstly, Nat isn't a kid, so that just goes to show how silly it is to assume that any minor will be a shitposting dork. Also, standards? How is it up to any of us to decide Spam's standards? That's the job of the Mods, not you.

Well those were definitely not the only times, because I was a little taken aback by your attitude.

I can't tell if you're thinking of somebody else, or of something that happened years ago or something. Please explain.

And you did make this bigger than it was, since all I asked him was how old he was. I have trouble gauging ages here, I tend to think people are younger than they are. Not really sure that warranted a lecture.

It didn't take much to connect what was being said in the "Weirdest Picture" thread and you asking Teo for his age. Unless I read your response to Awson's suggestion to nazi-out all of the kids wrong. It seemed as if you were in favor of such an idea, judging by your response. Of course that was all relatively light-hearted. You were apparently already thinking along the lines of "spam should be kid-free" before asking Teo his age, and then Idle responded (predictably) pretty bitterly to the knowledge, which was the reason I addressed both of you.

All I was saying is that I felt it would be a lot more productive to handle new people a bit less abrasively. You're the one who stated that I was in no position to say anything about the subject, which was kind of ridiculous, considering your reasons for looking at me that way are pretty much unfounded.

EDIT:

I'm not Nex so I won't grammar Nazi you, but don't lecture me. These kids need to learn, we're trying to help them not enable them.

Oh whoops. Also, how does it help anyone to oust them from the site? Saying shit like, "It's your bedtime." completely demeans said person's potential value. I don't know Teo, but all I'm saying is that being unnecessarily dickish isn't helping anyone. What if Card had been hassled about his age when he joined the guild? We'd be down one pretty awesome person just because they were younger than you.

Joe isn't a very good example because he actually hasn't integrated. And idk dude, but I've seen you get disproportionately angry about shit people are doing and like straight up curse them out in a rant for being stupid. I probably should think of specific examples, but I assumed you'd remember what I was referring to.

I've only ever done something remotely close to what you're describing twice. The first time was directed at nat, and I didn't curse him out, I said something to the effect of, "Why does Nat get special treatment for his seniority when he shitposts more than anyone else?"

The second time was directed at AYMM, and, again, I didn't curse her out. I did call her stupid, yes. I also called her desperate and a few other things, but only after she tried to personally insult me. I initially approached the AYMM situation the same way I normally would, which was pretty much, "Hey, be careful, because spam will rip you a new one for doing what you're doing."

Thank you lucian for supporting me

You don't need to thank me, it's no big deal.

Don't worry, this only escalated when Lucian stepped in. Don't take it to heart and you'll do fine.

This hasn't escalated yet, it's still a discussion, unless I'm missing something.

And no, that comparison isn't apt. It's an aspect of internet subculture, it's not an entire genre of comedy. It's not funny, it's lazy and hackneyed. And most of the gifs are pressing the same exaggerated expressions, there's nothing new being said.

That sounds like a ton of subjective opinion. Then again, we're talking about comedy, which is pretty much as subjective as it gets, so maybe we should just agree to disagree on this one.
Oh, that explains a bit.

Fuck off, you're not the hall monitor.

I'll monitor you're hall.

It really isn't picky, some people fit in right away. And I don't think you're in quite the position to criticize idle or myself, I've seen how you go off on people. As much as I used to criticize the way spam initiated people, it has worked for the place.Though I will say that hollywood did seem to take advice regarding the whole ellipses issue. that's something.

To what situation are you referring?

Also, sure, it works, but it seems to me that a gentler approach is more effective. Example being Joe. We were pretty easy on him, and he's accommodated nicely.

I used to find this shit funny but somehow gifs stopped being funny to me, and started being corny and dated and shit. The non-sequitor weirdo ones are still semi-ok, but I feel like the age of the gif has passed.

I don't quite understand the sentiment here. Gifs, in and of themselves, are not funny. They're just moving pictures. It's the content that should make them funny. Just seems an awful lot like saying "I used to find stand-up comedians funny, but not anymore." There's such a broad spectrum of things that saying something like that just comes off as vague and sort of pretentious.

EDIT: That wasn't meant to be instigatory by the way, hope it didn't come of that way.

so what im 13?

Don't worry, that's roundabout the minimum age when there was one, but I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone, (Trips, Idle, looking at you) That the spam community can be overly protective and really picky about who it allows to integrate with it. Don't take this personally, kid, it happens to everyone, sans a few exceptions, like myself. Basically, just keep a low profile and insert yourself gradually.

And guys, be gentle, and they'll come around. I'd rather gently move the community in the right direction as it expands then forcefully halt expansion by being overly abbrassive to the new people. :P
