The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.

I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.

Someone really needs to break the ice here xD

Lindy Carlson ~ Project Medusa

@PsyBlade @Metatrooper @Yankee

The rain stopped pelting Lindy as, from several angles, she glimpsed Cade forming a barrier above her and Wei Lai with his carapace. Neat trick, she thought - better than anything she could do. "Thanks," she said, her tiny smile returning.

For all the small talk around her, she said nothing else throughout the journey. The only sound she made was a sigh of relief upon stepping into the elevator, out of the cold - then a gasp at Major Mitsuishi's sudden and unexpected outburst as it juddered to an abrupt stop. Lindy tottered, but quickly straightened her posture. Around such a fiery-tempered person, it seemed everyone would have to be on their absolute best behaviour.

Trailing behind the major, Lindy followed her into a sparsely-furnished but warm hall, where the source of the signal stood. A blue-haired girl, pulling a red wagon loaded with trinkets, wearing a somewhat timid smile. As Mitsuishi told everyone to get talking and left, Lindy nodded and hunched into a chair, her own lips twitching up in response to the girl. She clasped the zipper of her damp jacket, hesitating. No need to be self-conscious, she told herself, they were all Zasshu here. Taking off the jacket and stretching out all five snakes from their cramped position, she rubbed her arms where smooth human skin met patterned scales.

As Cade sat beside her, despite her attempt to muster the courage to say something, she remained as silent as he did.

Lucilla Crawford ~ Ignis Fatuus

@Vega7285

In the flame's light, Lucilla watched the Hydes retreat. Although the sight confused her as much as it did everyone else, her frown became a smirk. "Uh-uh, think you're getting away that easily, do you?" At the commands of Veronica and Sophia, she hurried along the path towards the housing area.

"Got to say," she commented, glancing at Mary Anne, "glad I'm not alone either." She'd only known the other girl for a few hours, but something about her seemed confident, sure of herself - and like she wasn't one to be messed with. Rather, in fact, like some other people Lucilla had known.

A voice piped up in her head. "Oi! You wouldn't be anyway! You haven't forgotten about me, have you? That's it, just so you won't, I'll sing at you until we get there!" Lucilla gave a mix of a chuckle and a groan as the pixie made good on her word. She had no idea how a mental voice could sound so off-key.

"As if I would," she sent back. "But you know what I mean. And hey, you now have the extra company you wanted."

Before long, the slums came into view, run-down clusters of apartments only barely visible in the meager lights. Lucilla's candle flared brighter as if she could hope to cast off the air of bleakness permeating the area. Her parents had always said slum-dwellers brought their misery on themselves, but now Lucilla knew better. People flocked to the city's lights in search of a better life, only to find themselves cast into shadows and squalour, treated as if they didn't exist - except by Hydes.

At the end of an alleyway, something moved. Something dark and formless. "Alright," Lucilla whispered to Mary Anne, "let's put a stop to whatever they're playing at."

Veronica Edwards ~ The Portraitist

@Mistress Dizzy

With a nod, Veronica turned to Amarantha as teams of two began to break off from the group. "Well, this was quite a change of plan," she remarked, "but I trust that, with those red threads you mentioned, you'll be able to help us regroup afterwards." Wasting no time, she set off towards the towering industrial buildings.

If not for the presence of a tracker, it would take some time to hunt down all the Hydes in an area such as this, as Veronica knew too well. Peering through the miasma of factory fumes, she ignored the acrid smell, focusing instead on any sign of activity around the warehouses. It seemed only workers milled around the network of paths, some laughing and joking, although their slumped postures showed exhaustion and despondency.

"You also say your threads can track Hydes?" Veronica asked Amarantha, recalling the few details the quiet girl had let on about her magic.
@Pirouette I like it, interesting Quirk and backstory there, once you get the approval of SimpleWriter and Heartfillia, move her to the Characters section!

Kerianne Morley ~ Nightwatch

@Tenma Tendo @Heartfillia @Nyahahameha

"Breeze..." Brushing what she could of the dirt from her jacket, Kerianne approached her panicked friend. "I'm ok. Well, I'm not going to make a good impression on the teachers now..." She glared at Dawn, whose attention had switched to Raymond. "But I'm not hurt."

She considered what to say to put her friend at ease, but Renard beat her to it. Annoying as his cheesy jokes could be, at least he had this way of brightening the mood around him. "Seriously, though," Kerianne adressed Breeze once more, "I know exams are nerve-racking, but as long as we make good use of what we've learned so far, it'll be fine. I mean you did great in that sparring session..." She trailed off. It probably hadn't been a good idea to remind her of that.

When she continued, it was to answer Renard's question. "Well..." She paused. What could she say that wouldn't let on that she'd once been even more of a handful than Dawn? "It just happens sometimes," she replied, shrugging. "Funny isn't it, how good friends often either have a great deal in common or are polar opposites." Both cases, strange as it seemed, applied to her and Dawn.

Hearing a sudden gasp, she spun round to see Gabby braving one of Melissa's concoctions. The look on her face said it all. Kerianne frowned in concern - if something was already on Gabby's mind, that wouldn't help. A moment later, though, her classmate blurted out the reason for her exhaustion. Too much anime. Kerianne's tight shoulders relaxed. Having been no stranger to staying not just up but out late in the past, she couldn't exactly give any criticism, so instead she tried to cheer Gabby up. "Well... hopefully that'll help make up for it," she said, gesturing to the drink. "And you got plenty of training in, that's the most important thing."

Momo's grin turned strained. "Ehh, didn't mean to get in the way!" Instantly, she brightened. "Hope it was all worth it though, and hey, you caught up in the end!"

Kerianne gave a half-smile of her own. At least it hadn't been anything worse. Then again, she should have figured it would be something like that. Was stress getting to her already? Maybe she needed to take the advice she'd given Breeze.

Freya Leander ~ Cait Sith

@pkken @Tenma Tendo @Nyahahameha

Freya chirruped as someone rubbed her head, her hood falling around her shoulders. She looked up, smiling back at Raymond. A little unexpected, but a comforting gesture. "I guess I can see the logic, but still..." she replied to his comment. At least some people had no trouble fully waking up in the morning, these two girls in particular, one doing her best to liven everyone else up.

She struggled not to grimace at the description of the beverage, but surprisingly, Chi enjoyed the one shoved in his face. The bee girl, Melissa, grinned. "Sure, and no problem!" She pulled a notepad and pen from her bag, scribbling away and handing a page to Chi. "You can add garlic powder for extra flavour and nutrients, if you want." As Freya wondered whether she'd heard that right, Melissa beamed at Gabby, oblivious to the scrunched-up face as she tried the drink. "Glad you like it! Hey, since it sounds like you'll need it, you can drink the entire bottle, I've got plenty of the same here!" Freya stood up straight, trying to look alert as Melissa grabbed another bottle. Too late. The next moment, the brew was under her nose. "As others here can attest, this'll perk you up in no time!"

Freya hesitated, glancing at Chi and Gabby, then at Melissa. "Ehh... Thanks. I'm Freya, by the way." She didn't want to be rude, and if it worked, maybe she could ignore the taste. Bracing herself, she opened it slowly so it wouldn't fizz, and took a sip. Right away, she yowled and doubled over coughing, her mouth and throat searing from the spicy lump she'd swallowed.

"Ohh! The chilli powder must have clumped up again, sorry about that..." Melissa reached for another bottle. "Don't worry, this yoghurt drink will help! It's a little curdled from the vinegar, but it'll taste fine thanks to the licorice root!"

Eyes streaming, Freya staggered back. "T-That's ok, I'll be fine," she replied in between raw-throated splutters, before gulping from her own water bottle. Gasping for breath, she gave a weak smile. "Wow, a one-hit defeat already... Let's hope that doesn't bode for how the exam goes." Despite the joke, her cheeks burned almost as much as her tongue. Way to make a fool of herself before the test even started... in front of Renard, no less... Standing and wiping away tears, she blushed deeper and averted her eyes from him. Her attention settled on someone else dealing with embarrassment - Gabby.

"Hey, nothing wrong with that," Freya reassured her. "With the amount of work they pile onto us, you've got to take breaks when you can." She let out a raspy chuckle. "At least we can both safely say we've woken up a little now."
@Vongola_Hasayo Yay! We're at the start of a new arc, so that should make it easy to jump in!
Bump, more villains and one student needed!
@OwO It's ok, do what you think is best, and good luck with other RPs!

Veronica Edwards ~ The Portraitist

Veronica listened intently as the others explained their abilities, and how said magic could aid them with the upcoming mission. "A range of skills such as yours," she addressed the girls who'd replied, "sounds like it could make our tasks much more manageable. Of course, we'll still need to be cautious, and be sure to work together to the best of our ability." She glanced from Amarantha to Marilyn, that trace of a smile returning. "Speaking of teamwork, hunts won't be the only reason for our gatherings. If there are aspects of your magic you have yet to figure out, this way we can help each other train and learn."

Claria flitted around the room, grinning down at the newly assembled coven. "That's the attitude! And I can't wait to see what you're all capable of!"

In contrast, Veronica's expression became neutral once again. "That," she said, eyes flicking to the slowly dimming view through the window then back, "is something we'll be seeing very soon."

It wasn't long before dusk crept over London, people heading home for the day as, unknown to them, a new kind of activity stirred. It wasn't just that in the rowdy pubs and inns Veronica passed by, either. The reports she'd heard could easily be written off as the ramblings of the drunk, but she knew better.

Glimpses of ghostly figures. Bouts of aggression that went beyond drunken brawls. Attacks by unseen assailants. Disappearances. This was, after all, the perfect place for Hydes to prey on the vulnerable.

"Excess. Paranoia. Anger. Despair," she mused, peering through the dingy surroundings. The stench of alcohol and filth didn't faze her, nor did the air of seediness. She'd long since cast off all self-consciousness while doing her duty - after all, in her transformed state, she'd slip by the average person unnoticed. "The kinds of emotions and impulses that feed and breed Hydes, all in plentiful supply in places like these." Places that, given their experience, many of the witches here would be used to. Then again, sometimes there was no telling where a Hyde would lurk.

"Too bad we're ready for them!" Claria rose into the fetid air, casting a glimmer of light through the murk. "And the more there are, the easier they'll be to spot!"

With a grim nod, Veronica continued along her way. Numbers, after all, weren't just on the enemy's side.

Lucilla Crawford ~ Ignis Fatuus

A purple glow bathed the brickwork as Lucilla raised her candle, looking down the alley with a wry smile. It was ironic, how even after Wisp and Sophia had allowed her to turn her life around, she still belonged in the shadows of London. Now, though, it was to calm the chaos instead of cause it.

If the team worked together as well as Veronica and her pixie seemed to think they would, at least.

"Ready? That we are," she agreed, snickering. "Let's remind those Hydes it's those people's party, not theirs." She gestured to an inn, from which she could hear off-key singing. As she trailed along, she hoped she sounded more confident than she felt. Even with a decent level of faith in her combat ability, teamwork was something she still had to ease into once more. Not that she was the only one who felt that way, judging by some of the other girls' mannerisms. Besides, if things were as bad as Veronica said, they didn't have a choice. Not if she and the others were to stop a repeat of that incident.

Her fingers clenched around the candle holder as memories flashed through her mind. Blood, lifeless forms, a barely human figure hunching over them. That figure, still bearing traits of her friend, writhing in flames. With a deep breath, she closed her eyes as if to block out the scenes. No. It wouldn't happen again, not tonight.

Putting on that smile again, she turned her attention from Clarissa, to Amarantha, to Lilith, then to Marilyn. She knew this network of streets like a home, but this situation called for a precise search. "Looks like a good time to put those tracking skills of yours to use."
