The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio
A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.
I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.
Not long after George entered, another soon-to-be trainer flung open the doors.
"Heyyyy!!" Bounding into the lab, Oriana reached out and leaned against a wall to catch her breath. Her legs ached from the mad rush. Glancing at the clock, she laughed with relief. "Whew, just in time!"
The heated argument she'd had with her parents had almost made her late. They'd begged her to reconsider, but her mind was made up. She'd prove they had nothing to worry about. She'd defeat overseers, earn access to new areas, see the wonders the Kaida region had to offer... She practically bounced in place at the thought.
And she'd start her journey with one of the three little dragons running around.
"Omigosh they're awesome!" A massive grin spread across her face as she hurried forward. "I've always wanted a dragon! Now, how am I gonna choose?" Her eyes flicked from the Pokemon to Professor Cypress. "Thank you so, so much for giving me this chance! I can't wait to start out!"
One of the baby dragons, a Dratini, startled and slithered under a desk. "Ehh!" Rubbing the back of her neck, Oriana approached. Something she hadn't given much thought to was her lack of experience with Pokemon, besides the family Lycanroc. How did people interact with dragons? She crouched and gave the curled-up serpent a friendly smile. "Sorry little one, I didn't mean to scare you. Just got a little overexcited there."
Slowly, the Dratini emerged from its hiding place. Oriana held out a hand, and when the dragon didn't shrink back, she pet its head. She chuckled as it nuzzled her fingers. "Aren't they all just the cutest?" she said, looking up at the other teen, whose cape and dragon T-shirt clearly showed his love of the type.
Background: Up until now, Oriana has lived a sheltered life in Mercer Town. Her parents are geologists who run a small fossil and mineral store, selling trinkets from all over the region. From a young age, Oriana would help out in the store from time to time, fascinated by the wares and the history behind them. They instilled in her a longing to see the places they came from.
Which her parents wouldn't allow. Since they knew the stories about the region, they knew just how dangerous it could be, due to the powerful and unpredictable Pokemon inhabiting it. She was to stay safely inside as often as possible, and eventually inherit the store. Oriana knew she couldn't live like that, surrounded by fragments from lands she'd never visit. When a chance at freedom presented itself, in the form of the few friends she had inviting her to go exploring the mountains, she took it right away. Telling her family she was staying over at someone's house, she went along with them.
Only for a neighbor to spot them, and inform her parents, aware of how serious they were about keeping her safe. From then on, they kept an even tighter rein on her. Oriana hated it. The trip would have gone fine, she reasoned, the others had Pokemon, what was there to fear? If only she could have her own Pokemon, she'd be able to face any challenge the region posed. So, she snuck out again, and arranged with Professor Cypress to become a trainer. Naturally, her family were livid when they found out, but by then there was no stopping her - Oriana's Pokemon journey was already planned.
Pokemon: Dratini
Items: A few pebbles, low value gems, and old coins. Much like a dragon, she'll collect trinkets she finds throughout her journey.
At 5'6", she's tall for a Japanese girl, with a leanly muscled figure. Her dyed-blue hair is kept short for practical reasons, and is usually messy. When not in school uniform or sports gear, she wears loose T shirts and shorts.
History: Nanami is the classic middle child. With an older brother who's skilled at engineering and went on to study it at university, and a younger sister who's the top of her class, she always found it difficult to measure up to them. It was clear from a young age she wasn't academic like them. While her parents always showed her some affection, the other two were the ones who got all the praise, the ones they spoke about positively to family friends. And she was often expected to match their level of skill. The disappointment in her parents' faces when she fell short got to her every time.
With the support of friends, she began to focus on something she enjoyed more, and was better at - athletics. She'd take part in swimming competitions and marathons. Not that it got her the same level of recognition as more "useful" skills would, but it was something, at least.
She and Saya have been friends since childhood, having met when Nanami stepped in to stop some bullies, ending up with a bloody lip and a detention for her trouble. They often meet up outside of school, and Nanami keeps Saya's spirits up during her hospital stays.
Recently, her brother has gotten a low level job at Chrysalis Corporation. Although envious of his career prospects, she's happy for him, unaware of the shady goings-on within the business.
Personality: If Nanami could be described in three words, boisterous and energetic would be two of them. The third, depending who you asked, would either be "fun" or "annoying". She doesn't often realise when she's being too pushy while dragging her friends into her antics. Nonetheless, she means well and is overall a kind person. While she envies her more successful and academic siblings, she cares a great deal about them.
Having experience with feeling inadequate, she won't stand for bullying. If she sees a friend getting mistreated, she'll step in, sometimes inadvertently escalating the situation and getting in trouble.
Highly passionate, she adores sports. Swimming is her favourite, closely followed by running and volleyball. While she likes the friendly competition aspect of it, really she wants to prove herself - not that she'll let insecurity show.
For all her tough, tomboyish front, she has a secret that only her best friend, Saya, knows. Throughout childhood, she was obsessed with mermaids, and still frequently fantasises about being one.
After fusing with the Symbiont, she'll slowly become more and more emotionally detached, and will develop a smug side as she becomes the "superior" one for once. Expect this to cause plenty of conflict with her passion for life/hobbies, and her bonds with others.
Ta'ge Symbiont
Natural Weapons:
Electric tentacles: The tentacles protruding from a Thalassan's shoulders and hips are tipped with pincers that can deliver electric shocks on contact. These appendages are strong and dextrous, able to restrain enemies or deal a decent amount of damage even if the Thalassan doesn't use her electricity.
Darts: The Thalassan can fire small, thin darts like bullets from her hands and the tips of her head fin.
Limit Weapon: A whirlpool-like vortex of water appears in front of her, from which a swarm of crustacean sea monsters appear, floating through the air and attacking enemies from all sides with their blade claws. They're more of a manifestation of her will than actual beings, and do as she wants.
Other Supernatural Abilities: The most notable is the Thalassan's ability to manipulate water. Not in the bodies of organic beings, but she can draw it from the air, and from nearby pools, lakes etc. This takes concentration, but with enough of it she can shoot high-pressure jets at enemies, or simply soak them to make her electric attacks even more devastating. Other than this, Thalassans are extremely agile and flexible, particularly nimble in water, with a high tolerance to the cold. With their six eyes, they have a wide field of vision, and can see in the dark. When underwater, they can also use a sonar sense.
Personality Traits: Thalassans are cold and calculating, analysing situations to their advantage. They tend to be arrogant, looking down on "lesser" beings. Humans, dhoanoids, even non-Thalassan tagers. As such, if the easiest solution to a problem requires the sacrifice of innocents, so be it.
Hybrid Form: Nanami's eyes become pure yellow, sclerae and all. She gains her night vision and control over water.

"I've already seen the record," Jess' mom explained. "Assault and battery also came up several times. Those would be the fights your father mentioned, and I have to say, that sounds like more than regular teenage rebellion. It isn't my job to judge, I'd just like to hear the full story, if you're willing to say."
Jess clenched her fists in her lap. Two things were clear - her mom couldn't help but judge a little, brimming with worry given the personal involvement, and Roxy wasn't letting on everything. There was more to the charges than it seemed. Even if they turned out technically true, the thought was certainly jarring, but she didn't blame Roxy for acting out.
"And I hope therapy helped, at least," her mom continued. "Are the current therapy sessions going well?"
"Yes!!" Exhaling in relief as the shade went up in flames, Ukiko punched the air and grinned up at Setsuko. They'd done it. "Magical girl senshi 1, shade 0!"
She'd spoken too soon. The fire died down to reveal black mist, still forming a vague mantis shape. From inside the fog, an orange orb blazed. With an unearthly shriek, the sphere unleashed a burst of light - right at her. "Waugh!" Ukiko flew out of the way, avoiding a direct hit, but wasn't fast enough to evade it entirely. She yelped, clutching her right arm where the blast had singed her. "Ugh... You don't know when to quit do you?"
Burabura, with her single eye, stared in horror at the wound. "Are you alright-bura? That looks nasty-bura!"
"It's nothing," Ukiko hissed through clenched teeth, although it wasn't. Up until now, no shade had felt like such a threat as this one. "L-Let's show it what happens to those who get on our bad side! Soulfire Combo!" Raising her good arm, she sent wisps swirling around the stream of spectral energy Burabura breathed, directly at the orb. They'd all have to hit this shade with everything they had.
