This is a question I've posed myself multiple times throughout the course of my RP career. Within tabletop, the concept of a character being injured or even outright dying isn't so much an issue. Sometimes you just get terrible luck with a bad roll and your character gets hurt. But with freeform RP, be that the style of roleplay we mainly write here on the guild, the idea of a character being killed off or injured is left to the player rather than fate/the luck of the dice. And when it comes to roleplays such as zombie apocalypses, low fantasy medieval, etc. (just to give a few examples), this can be a problem, where the danger and the possibility of injury/death is very real yet the character cast generally tends to remain unscathed albeit perhaps shaken at most.
So, my question is: how exactly should character injury and death be handled in a roleplay where it is a possibility? Is your only option, without resulting to dice that is, is to hope your players aren't shy of their characters potentially getting hurt?

Typically, Scout tends to vary between three different mood sets—"please don't talk to me", "what the hell are you doing," and "I just wanna chill". On a regular basis, however, she often sticks to the first and third. It isn't so much because Scout lacks confidence or anything, but more so that she hates the idea of socializing. Scout is the epitome of Midwest moody through and through, finding high school life unappealing and rarely showing an interest in the clique lifestyle that has consumed others.
After all, why should she go through the trouble when it'll all just fall apart in the end?
B I O G R A P H YLife started out as a mess for a young Scout Czajkowski.
At an early age, her parents, being unable to properly care for their daughter, signed their parental rights away, leaving Scout in her grandmother's care. Sad as it was, however, Scout never took much issue with the decision; what memory she had of her biological parents clouded by childhood amnesia. They were foreign to Scout, and for all Scout figured, her babcia was her mother.
And so, Scout began her childhood under her traditionally Polish grandmother—her "Polish Journey", she dubbed it, being raised around all things Polish. She learned the Polish language, ate Polish food, and even partook in Polish traditions from the Drowning of Marzanna to Fat Thursday. At first, such times were fun and full of cheer, but as Scout grew older, she ultimately began to drift away from her Polish heritage, wanting a chance to follow her own path rather than what had been set out for her already.
Little did she know what such ideals would cost.
Seemingly out of the blue, her grandmother's age and ailing health gave way to a costly medical emergency. No longer was she able to take care of her granddaughter like before, but unbeknownst to Scout, her grandmother and her distant uncle had already planned for such an event. Though Scout swore to stay by her grandmother's side, circumstance said otherwise. Before she even knew it, Scout was off packing her bags for California to live with an uncle she had never met before—at least long enough to finish her schooling.

Here's a question, mostly because I'd like to find some like-minded folk- does anyone still shiny hunt in the Pokemon games? It's a hobby I really enjoy, and have been doing it for the past 7 years give or take a few months. I got super into it during the X/Y era and used to be a really nice competitive breeder/battler, and so I'd spend much of my time breeding for shiny 'mons. 😂 I've long since retired from battling, but I still do enjoy the hunt! Currently going for a living shiny dex, which is a feat in itself.
I don't hunt much in the Switch titles, and as I never got into Sun/Moon and the Ultra versions, I still hunt in ORAS and X/Y mainly, but I did recently get into romhacks on top of that- I got an R4 card specifically so I could play romhacks on actual hardware, so I've also been hunting in Renegade Platinum.
This is probably just mindless ramble, but I'd really like to find someone into the hobby. Call me hopeless. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I do, though rarely.
I prefer to shiny hunt in Go over the main series, however, since the shiny percentage/rate is waaaay lower than that in the games. It's like 1 in 500 vs. 1 in 4096. Plus, whenever there's a community day, you can get a ton of shinies as your chance of finding one goes down to--I think--1 in 25. Just from the recent Eevee community day I have a shiny of every Eeveelution + an Eevee and an extra Vaporeon.
If this is an issue that needs addressing, it may be worth putting something up on a permanent basis that lays out what is and isn't acceptable in terms of IC frequency/amounts. Something to point at and say "This is the guideline you're going against." rather than arbitrarily deciding that someone has too many active threads. If something like this already exists, it should be easier to find.
+1
I've seen it brought up here and there throughout all the years I've been on the guild. Hell, even I've mentioned it back when I was mainly writing on my other account.
@NuttsnBolts or any other mod: correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we already have pinned guideline threads? I looked and could've sworn we had some, but the only one I could find was the pinned Mature 1x1 thread (which IMO needs some updating/a new coat of paint anyway).
It seems to display fine now, unless you're talking about how it shows ... part way through the url. Probably something related to url length, I guess. I don't know much about the site's actual coding.
Interacting With: N/A — Location: Delbrook School Grounds
Oh fer fuck's sake; how does someone even navigate this school?
Scout rotated the school map she held sideways, as if she expected it to suddenly show the way to class. Today, evidently, was going to be rough not only in the sense of going to brand new school, but also in trying to figure out where everything was located on school grounds. Of course, when you're the reigning champion of "how many times can you get lost in your own neighborhood playing Pokémon Go", such things weren't so trivial.
As she made her way further, Scout cursed the name of whomever decided on the open campus plan—who, after all, thought multiple, separate buildings was a good idea for a school?
Right, 900... 900...
To Scout's surprise, however, her destination wasn't all that difficult to find. The 900 building was in close proximity to the center of the school—a fact Scout made a mental note to later on forget remember. Still, the issue of actually getting to the building itself still persisted. Unlike the rest of the buildings, the 900 building was lacking one crucial element: a bottom floor. How on earth was she supposed to get up there to her classroom?
Scout sighed, looking around from where she stood for some kind of staircase or elevator to no avail. Her eyes then focused on her cousin, walking past the crowd to her respective home room. Almost suddenly, a lightbulb went off inside her head—all she needed to do was follow Ash around. One way or another, she'd eventually lead her to where Scout needed to go.
S'poze it wouldn't hurt to try, Scout figured. Unless she's as bad as I am with getting around.
Thankfully, Scout's gambit pulled off, making it to her home room without further trouble.
As she entered the hallway to her classroom, Scout watched as Ms. Goldman pulled aside some students back into the hallway. Had it not been for Mr. Hubbard, a former teacher she had in North Dakota, Scout would've figured her classmates had somehow already wound up on the wrong side of their teacher. She had a feeling she knew what Ms. Goldman was waiting for—and she'd be right on the money with her prediction.
"Hey thair, Ms. Goldman," Scout replied, walking past the confused onlookers and into class. As Ms. Goldman let her inside, however, Scout was quickly horrified, realizing what she had just said once she sat down in her assigned seat.
Well, shit.
There went any chance she had of hiding her Nort-a-kotuh accent. Sure, Scout hadn't as strong as they made it out to be in the movies, and that her accent was bound to slip eventually. But couldn't it have been anymore obvious that she wasn't from around here? Or, rather, why did it have to happen now, right before the first day of school had even started?
Just play it cool; like nothing ever happened, Scout told herself, idly waiting for school to start with a few taps of her fingers across her desk. Hopefully no one even noticed. Hopefully.
When school finally began, however, it seemed to be rather standard fare, save for the few awkward glances Scout gave her classmates every now and then in regards to her earlier incident. That said, she couldn't exactly put a finger to what Ms. Goldman meant that Delbrook did differently—everything that had happened so far seemed normal and average. Homeroom was no different than any other homeroom, as expected. They even recited the Pledge of Allegiance, as well had an introductory assembly for the new year. Was she referring to the gold, blue and green days? It was her best guess.
Little did Scout know, however, as the class walked out of the auditorium and to the lacrosse field, that her idea of "average" would be quickly blown out of the water.
Oh, geez.
Stepping onto the lacrosse field, her eyes met one festival booth after another. Now, this was certainly different from her prior North Dakotan schooling. Truthfully, the carnival was a little grand for her liking, being not quite sure of what to make of it. But when life gives you lemons, you don't let them rot away, so, with a shrug of her shoulders, Scout threw her hands in her pockets and went off to explore with the rest of the class. And knowing her luck so far today, she half-expected one of her classmates to try and rope her into whatever shenanigans were to be had here.
@DarkStar@Hammerman AFAIK Email notifications aren't a thing on new-Guild. Your best bet is to ask @LegendBegins to see if he has anything in mind/store for email notifs since he is waiting on Mahz to finally show up so his site updates can be implemented.
