More than once I've stated a specific release date I've then had to delay for reasons. Now for the first time I've stated a delayed release I may have to retract it as it all just fell into place!😁

Jaclyn "OfAll" Chreyz

Location: X Mansion - War Room
Skills: Power Mimicry

Jaclyn had first looked, then stepped, back through Max's portal, her actions suiting her feelings as she was more with the War Room discussion than with Max at the moment.

Jean and Scott's input was reassuring -as Jaclyn was thinking, the situation wasn't at crisis point yet. They had time enough to think things through, consider their individual situation -Mary's was different than Jean's.

The Shi'ar were an avenue potentially good to know, but silently Jaclyn agreed it wasn't one to go down at this juncture.

"If emotions are key, we should look at doing whatever would be least emotionally charged," Jaclyn had nodded to Carolina, but presented this suggestion to Scott, feeling deferent to him and Jean given their experience. Though only Jean's ongoing presence had been explicitly addressed, Jaclyn assumed Scott's may be counted as well; as far as she was concerned, that made him the one to run things by for a definitive, pinned-down action plan.

"Mary definitely shouldn't feel like we're seeing her as a powder keg, for instance," Jaclyn had shifted to generally addressing those present, though at that moment her gaze fell in thought. "Especially if.. .I think I might've encountered Chrysi on Asteroid M. . ." She thought now not only of that mission, but what she knew of the ones that preceded it. Whatever degree of major Asteroid M fell on the scale in Mary's mind, it was at least a contribution to the compound stress of being an X-Man. "Does anyone know if certain stress brings her out? Maybe a ground is what Mary needs, or has decided she needs, for either situation and she's trying to find that with Gambit -assuming that's why she's in New Orleans. Since she didn't come to us, interjecting ourselves in. . .maybe that wouldn't be helpful. Though we need to know how it's going so we can get involved if, or when, we should."

Feeling sure on certain things while less so on others, Jaclyn was partly making suggestions and partly thinking out loud.
Respecting Marygold's space, sensitive as it may presently be, while keeping duly close and ready, seemed a prudent fundamental objective.

Ready to do what, was the next.

When Scott and Jean relayed what was going on, Jaclyn's mind went back to Asteroid M - the fiery teleportation Mary had utilized to save herself and Jaclyn, and more so, the brief moment when something had seemed off about her. Jaclyn now had the feeling she might've "met" Mary's alternate personality.

Scott phrased it as most likely Marygold was struggling against one influence or the other, but Jaclyn worried -what if it was both? Caught in the middle of a mental tug-o-war within your own mind...Distress presently rose in Jaclyn's.

However, someone else's was soon to catch her attention. Max wasn't looking well. Then suddenly he was reacting as though they already had a game plan to follow. What was he doing?

Jaclyn's mouth fell open slightly as it dawned on her a second before Max articulated it -his family. His actions still held an air of prematurity, but Jaclyn could understand the motivations behind his impulse. If that's where Holo was, she'd be feeling an worry-induced raise of temperature right now.

Instead, as she listened to Max relay what was going on to the individuals who made up that family -herself not aware of Casper's biological relations- individuals who, at another time, Jaclyn would've taken more active interest in, she couldn't help feeling a sense of foreboding from Max's actions.

To hear him tell it sounded as though the Phoenix itself had landed, already realized and a moment away from living up to how most had come to know it.

By Jaclyn's perspective, the Phoenix was not exclusively a being of destruction but a sacred entity to be respected. From what Jean said, it sounded like the destruction had occurred from mishandling; manipulation. Knee-jerk reactions and keyed-up actions weren't likely to be good, especially when emotions played a key part here, no matter how natural the motivation or logical the priority.

And that was just considering the Phoenix side of this circumstance.

Jaclyn's attention shifted then between Guin and Jean when the former posted the question of "any other way?", and a different sense of foreboding affected Jaclyn, one mixed with sadness as she felt the implication. Surely it was too soon to consider there wasn't any other way, wasn't it? Was Jaclyn in fact the one who was reacting out of step with the circumstance, not understanding how immediate the gravity was?

She felt not.
After all, if some of the old guard had been contacted, there's no way they would be dragging their heels if things were that eminent. More likely, Jaclyn thought, the old and the new would be mixing, with this meeting being conducted over distance via the two telepaths on each respective team.

"Let's try not to panic," Jaclyn said gently to Max, reaching out a hand towards his shoulder after she'd stepped through the portal. "There's time enough still to be levelheaded about this." Somehow she gained more calm from her own words, as though speaking them made the reasoning more true, despite her feeling like the outsider of this experience.

She'd also made eye contact in turn with the others in the antique room, as though assuring they still had time to breathe with this information, at least, and kept her ear out for the continuing discussion just on the other side of the portal.
Logan responded with a grim expression of self-assurance. More than a few times had he got things done in underground tunnels. He supposed he'd gotten to like the setting; shadowy, his victims-to-be never quite anticipating where he'd strike. This plan was shaping up already.

From any other young person, anyone new to the team, so to speak, Xavier would've corrected "no, we will plan this" but he recognized the progress here with Ryder. And though Xavier felt it would be likely the plan would require some fine tuning to meet his standard of action, the present consequence to disagreement is Ryder would simply go without them. The X-Men could work with that.

"Our computer in the War Room should suffice." He knew she didn't need to be shown, but all the same he wheeled himself around to start heading that way.

It happened to be the same location they would've come whether a computer request been made or not, as Xavier had intended to call the briefing with his remaining X-Men directly and that is where it would've been held. Though Ryder's timeline of "when they get back" appealed to him. More time to consider things. Not to mention decompress, namely in the case of Jean. Though Xavier knew she was anything but fragile on her own, her present condition warranted consideration, and even the strongest needed time to breathe following affecting circumstances; especially those that were, in part, brought on by themselves.

"I should see what's happening. I'll bring you to medical, first." He shifted out of their close position.

"No, Scott. I already told we checked out alright."

"It doesn't feel that way." A glance down.

Jean actually smiled. "It's trying out a different position today." She adjusted her own while she moved her own hand in something of a massaging manner. "I don't think you can find it as well, but trust me."

Scott was reassured enough to smile slightly himself, though both were fleeting.
They rose together.

"I still don't know what I was thinking. . ." Distress was gradually giving way to reasoning. Jean had a vague sense that she had actually had some sort of clear thought to her actions, but whatever it had been felt so far back in her mind now, she couldn't see it for the present glare; maybe she only wanted there to be an explanation so badly.

Scott had paused, eying her, but the vestige went away completely.

Jean shook her head. "What had happened to you and Ryder?" At least that was an event from this morning with a sure answer. She eyed the state of his uniform as if noticing it just now.

They headed for the elevator while Scott answered: "We wound up in Genosha thanks to Sentinels patrolling the Atlantic searching for it. Well one, in this case. A double KO then I found myself looking up at Magneto before I was carried off to their medical facility."

"He rescued you?"

"There's a lot that was surprising. . .That's what I want to talk about later."

Down in the basement, they met Logan in the hall.
"Doing okay?" he eyed Jean.

"Fine, thank you." She really didn't want the attention right now, but did appreciate his caring. "How has it gone?"

"Well enough. I'm hitting the Danger Room." He shifted a departing look -really something of a glare- towards Scott as he headed off.

Scott's brow furrowed as his gaze followed Logan.
What was his problem?

'Good timing, Scott,' Xavier's voice rang quietly in his -and Jean's- mind. 'We're in the War Room. Jean, if you wouldn't mind meeting me in my office. I would like to discuss matters.'

The couple exchanged a look.
Scott took Jean's hand briefly, laying a kiss on her lips before separating.

The door to the War Room opened shortly thereafter, permitting Cyclops to stride in. He found Ryder at the computer and Xavier sitting-by. These past few minutes while Ryder was setting up, Xavier had been in a quiet state; thinking more than outright observing her.

"Ryder is presently laying down the groundwork for our response to Umbra's assault," he explained to his leading X-Man, already turning towards the door in prep for exiting. "She will be taking the initiative in deciding how we proceed. Lend your expertise."

Following Ryder's lead? An interesting prospect. Cyclops watched the Professor go thinking his manner was unusually terse. He only got like this when whatever was on his mind was particularly troubling. Cyclops didn't really have to wonder at it. He reverted to Ryder, folding his arms across his chest.

"So what are you doing specifically?" he queried. More out of liking to know the score than anything else.

The amount of the present situation Jaclyn was aware of wasn't so much that Max's reluctance to revert their outfits, and subsequent choice to keep his, didn't still hit as amusing. She wound up going through his portal as well, as it seemed only sillier to avoid it since it was more right in front of her than the door.

Jaclyn took note of how concerned Mira was, and wondered if she'd had some inkling of something regarding Mary that this call from Guin confirmed. She also wondered what kind of assistance the computer could provide that fell into the "dire enough for it" category.

At that point, Peitro arrived with a gust of wind and Guin in tow. Jaclyn thought she perceived another level of concern in Peitro, and it didn't take Sherlock Holmes' deduction skills to discern the reason; one look at Guin.

Jaclyn knew she was closest with Mary. On top of that was this fact of something that, even without learning the details yet, felt major coming so soon after Asteroid M. Par for the course, she knew, but that didn't make shouldering the heaps any easier, and the earliest members of the team, like Guin, and Mary, would have much more compound stress in that regard.

Naturally she wanted to ask those who weren't just in the Danger Room what was up, but waited for everyone else to gather.
Not in the least anticipating that "everyone else" would include two of the OG X-Men -talk about earliest members.

Despite the situation, Jaclyn couldn't help thinking of Holo. If her sister were presently at the Mansion, and had noticed them, she'd likely now be in a inner debate with herself regarding sneakily following them to see what was up -even though she'd know she couldn't sneak in the presence of telepaths. Probably Holo would've decided on actively waiting for her big sister to fill her in, however much Jaclyn felt she appropriately could.

Presently, multiple internal answers for what might be going on crossed Jaclyn's mind at once. One involving a plan, one involving a need to alter that plan, and two involving reactions to recent events.

Regarding the legacy members with a gaze of due respect, Jaclyn waited to hear the reality.

@Timuir Okay.
So then yeah, you can join. And we'll go with your character not being a part of the RP from the very beginning, instead coming in some bit into the RP. Or if you'd prefer to be there from the start, we can discuss a few more particulars, np.
Well, they do have certain ones that represent the Xmen. And they are considered mentors and professors. (Hehe well I imagine he would)

True!

And yes regarding the cartoons, too, although I think what they lack in the breadth of characters they make up for in the depth of the stories. Though actually, I was surprised how X-Men: Evolution did handle a larger cast. When they intro'd the younger students in, I think Season 2? I was expecting them just to be background, filling in the world a little more. But they actually got decent screentime and key moments for some of them.

X-Men: TAS might've been able to cover more, at least other Marvel characters, but times were different back then.
Throughout its run, though, there were quite a lot of mutants and X-Men characters we got to see, though, if only mostly as one offs if memory serves.

I mean I guess the animated series actually are like the comics in that, I think the comics do stay the same for quite a while. Like in real time we could have the same cast of X-Men for several years, and even a plot building over that course of time. It's just now that we're 60 years on, looking back at most of these stories, they all feel available right now, you know? Where as reading them when they came out might've felt the same as watching any of the series, like if you think of the run of a specific writer or rather writer/artist combo like its own series.

Though that's coming from someone who hasn't gotten through too much of those years, yet; bits and pieces.
From that I do think the thought applies to some more than others.
Like the earliest comics, Lee/Kirby, went places, man. You never really expect what each one will feature.

Now I'm certainly not saying as time went on they grew more predictable (certainly many of the much lauded creators came later),
just I think more modern comics follow more of a format. At least what I've read of the Utopia era, for instance, felt to me like a TV drama.

(I hope none of that came off as stupid. My mind's not firing on all cylinders today).

Jaclyn was already in the Dark Alley when Mira had come out of Hyde Park, and hadn't noticed her join the others in the Pub.

Dark alleys had a way of being more than they were -reminding Jaclyn of numerous edgy or vulnerable scenes from media.
As well as more "slice of life" situations -the desperate street life. As her eyes roved over the most shadowed places which a part of her felt she dare not step into, and another part felt she must -perhaps though, not without a light source- they landed on a heap of something; garbage by the looks of it, though it was hard to tell in the gloom.

There was just enough light in this portion of the alley that Jaclyn could make some objects out when she stepped closer.
She had wished, though, she hadn't left the Cricket Bat behind. She would prefer to use it to leaf through such detritus.

She was actually looking around for something else she might use for the purpose and something that seemed like it could do, with enough of it poking out that Jaclyn could comfortably grab it. When she did, however, she realized what she was holding: the Blowpipe.

It was not long after this when distinctive footsteps could be heard coming up, and Jaclyn turned, still grasping the possible weapon, to find Perry. But ahead of any following action on Jaclyn's part, a voice not her own quite literally interrupted her thoughts.

It was Guin's. Calling them to action -or at least to pre-action.

At once Jaclyn's character persona fell while she listened. Out of reflex she looked at Perry again, as if making a nonverbal comment about the message they clearly all just received given the wording if not fellow reactions, then Jaclyn started moving back towards the Pub: "Sounds like we'll have to save this for later," she called out as she neared Max and Mira. Her absorption in the game giving way to mature concern; it was fun while it lasted. In what way did Mary need them, now? "Max, can you get our outfits back to what they were?" Jaclyn asked, paused while she waited for the sim to disengage so they could head out the real door.
@Timuir
It's different than what I had in mind, but I'm liking it in a specific way -how I see this character working in the RP would be like, a character the "starting characters" meet up with later, while they're already into their own discovery journeys. Like a mid-way point entry character, though probably sooner than mid-way.

This type of character could add another layer to things given the differences to the others with the only similarity I'm seeing so far being they want to know the truth.

That is, I'm picturing they're on their own, not living at the Mansion / not really having been raised by any of the X-Men, but perhaps you had a different idea there?
@Pandora13

Yeah, I think "the mutant metaphor" is more like a spread out thematic thing or a throughline that comes up more or less depending what media you're taking in your which comics. Some of the comics lean much heavier into standard superheroes-against-cataclysmic-disaster (except in the X-Men's case, it's almost always because they're mutants rather than they're caught up in somebody else's war etc).

Hmmm...mascots is an interesting thought.
I think they can be simultaneously that as well as mentors.

(and Beast must get his stuff tailor made!)

@Pandora13 Yeah, there's a lot of sides to the mutant story. Like there's the theory -theory might not be the right word. The take?- of the "mutant metaphor", where mutants are stand ins for various things of our actual society. Namely or initially racial/civil rights, though more recently it's drawn closer or even direct lines to the LGBTQ+ community. But I know that there are people who relate to them from the disability community. Many mutants having atypical bodies; looking different, literally not fitting in (e.g. Nightcrawler has three fingers. He can't just buy gloves off the rack).

How I think of it also is like, what are their limitations? For instance, Cyclops. If he ever has problems with his eyes, something as simple as putting eyedrops in would not be a straightforward process for him.
