Current You know, I'm in 4 RPs that are basically still going, yet they're all slowing down in unison. IN UNISON.

Why do people get so sensitive if a character is mean to their character? Sometimes people take it personally? Like goddamn if my character is criticizing your character it doesn't mean I'm criticizing you. In the same vein, if my character is unkind in some way, it's just part of the story and how things are going... It doesn't mean anything about what I think of their char.

Oh boy, I had a lot to do with this shit when I first started RPing. Frankly, if I've learned anything over the years, it's that some people almost live vicariously through their characters; like, they see an insult to their character as an insult to them, and they take big leaps to make sure their character comes out smelling of roses no matter the circumstances. They can say what they want about not actually caring about what happens in character, their actions always betray their investment in their own character. It might not be all people, but some people definitely act like this.

I'll tell a little story to illustrate my point; I once had a character make another character out to be a pervert. It wasn't a big deal; they just pretended to believe they were a pervert after they did something vaguely pervert like. It should have been clear that the character was just having a giggle, and that considering it was happening in a group including only one other person, it wasn't some big deal that needed to be addressed. Except it was. At the time, nothing happened, nobody got mad out of character or anything, but later on I found out the head GM of the whole damn thing had something to say about it. See, this RP had a newsletter like thing being run by a few other members of the RP, and they interviewed him one day and he explained that he wanted to correct the "bad reputation" the character had gotten or some shit like that (it was years ago). What this told me was that 1; apparently my character's little joke was such a big deal the head GM had to make an announcement about how they were going to try and correct the situation, 2; the person whose character mine had uh, "slandered", probably was actually offended by what my character did, and went so far as to bitch to the head GM to get them to do something about it, and 3; in spite of what my character having done being such a trivial, small scale thing, I managed to get no less than two people so offended that they wanted it "corrected".

Fortunately, I had already left the RP, so it didn't matter what they did, but it still amazed me that so much attention was drawn to such a pathetically insignificant action one of my characters had undertaken. I mean, given the size of the RP at the time, I somehow doubt that too many people were even reading my post, since it concerned nobody other than me, the offended person, and one other player, hence the head GM must have either been alerted to my post or had way too much time on their hands. That and other experiences are way I remain convinced some people are just too damn invested in their RPing.
Leon Brandeau

A sizable group quickly formed around Leon and Gerhardt. It was understandable that not everyone raced to their side in the thick of battle, so Leon was content with what they assembled. What he was less content with was the growing chaos on the field. The advent of an artillery strike certainly boded ill for their prospects, but Leon hadn't given up yet. Even worse, their gathering had attracted the attention of opportunistic ranged combatants on the enemy side, but other cadets seemed quick to respond to them. At Gerhardt's call, Leon readied to charge with a nod of affirmation.

As their charge began, Leon broke to the right as they split the line as expected. He immediately engaged two axemen from the line, bringing his glaive up horizontally to block their strikes in one go. He then jerked his glaive to the right, wrenching the pair off balance. He then used the moment to rip his glaive free of his block and strike at one axeman's neck. As it struck true, the other axeman rallied to cut him down. Even with his weapon still stuck in the first man, Leon dropped to one knee and caught the oncoming axe below the blade with the shaft of his glaive. He then tore it free of the first man, and used the momentum to pull the second man's axe hand aside, and then whipped his glaive around to smack him in the face with the end of it. With the man stunned, he then finished him off with a clean slice to an exposed part in his armor. He then joined in Gerhardt's final rallying cry. "Yes! Let us make a clean sweep, for the Empire!" He called out. Although concerns about the artillery played at the back of his mind, he had resolved to keep fighting in spite of it. Even if he had to sprint up to the very position of the artillery and slay it's crew, he was determined to achieve victory.
@EnterTheHero@tobiax So, any chance of a start date?
Theodore Levant

Theodore now stood outside the Grand Hotel Mohad in Avent. He had just been dropped off nearby by the navigator that had taken him the whole way here. His navigator was a curious one; his father had claimed to have arranged for one for them personally, but considering what had transpired on the way here, Theodore was not certain that Amaury had fully realised the true nature of his choice.

It had all started in one of Avingnon's great harbors. Amaury claimed he had spared no expense, and that they were to travel to the exams in luxury befitting the sons of the Levant family, having arranged a lavish yet speedy cruise liner to carry them. Of course, he mostly meant Jules and Mathis, and Theodore just happened to be there. He knew all too well the expectation was for his elder brothers to make their smash hit debut and for him to be forgotten. Theodore had other plans, and he was convinced that Jules and Mathis' ineptitude would be proven in due time. Theodore's suspicions were first raised when they actually met their navigator for the first time; a man named Guillaume. Right of the bat, the man was rude and crass, and he definitely rubbed Mathis the wrong way. Theodore was sure that their father didn't hire this man directly, or else he would have hired someone to kiss Mathis' ass the entire journey, as he was the eldest of the eldest, and Amaury's pride and joy. He immediately wondered if he wasn't some kind of plant.

Their initial journey was uneventful. Most of it was spent listening to Mathis proudly boast of his intentions to take the hunting world by storm, and Jules nodding and confirming his every word. He could already tell the brother's were only impressing themselves, as Guillaume didn't even pretend to take them seriously. Some time into their journey, they just so happened to have a chance encounter with a young woman who bumped into Theodore, falling and hurting her leg in the process. Jules and Mathis, ever eager to prove their "honour", raced to her aid, lambasting Theodore for his folly and inaction. Theodore resolved not to do a thing for this woman; she soon revealed she too was travelling to the exams, and asked ever so sweetly for the brothers to take care of her on the way. While his brothers were easily suckered in, Theodore was resolute in the belief this was all too convenient.

Naturally, after a period of travel in which Mathis fawned all over this pretty young thing, they stayed a fateful night in a hotel in a city on the path to Avent. When they awoke, they found that the woman had stolen their money and weapons. Jules and Mathis raced out in pursuit, and were tipped off by Guillaume, who had just so happened to see the woman leave, as to the building she appeared to be hiding within. The two of them barged in, only to find themselves confronted by multiple thugs. Here is where they may have proved their martial prowess, had they not been relieved of their weapons just earlier. They may have been in for a rough time, had Theodore not had the perspicacity to clamber in through the window and get the drop on the mob before them. He managed to knock one out before the others noticed he was there. From there, he fought the only way he knew how, and used the room to his advantage. He used one's momentum to send them crashing into a metal locker when they attempted to charge at him. He led another over to a stack of wooden boxes that he kicked over at just the right time to have them collapse atop them. He even made use of Jules and Mathis to block a few punches sent his way, something they naturally didn't appreciate. Eventually, he had either knocked out or exhausted those before him, without having taken a hit himself. Jules and Mathis ended up with a bloody nose and a black eye respectively, which Theodore considered a double victory.

After all the fuss, Guillaume took this moment to reveal his hand in it all. He explained he was affiliated with the Hunter's Association; not just as any old navigator, but one employed to weed out foppish morons that were foisted on them from Avingnon, of which they got a few. The woman was obviously something he used to take advantage of the naivety of many of the applicants he had to deal with. The thugs too were his men, though he made it clear they were just supposed to give people a light roughing up to scare them away. He was impressed by how Theodore had never been taken in by anything on their journey, not even blundering into his little trap at the end. It was for this reason he chose to hand Guillaume his VIP card, to be used to gain access to the real site of the exams. To Theodore's great amusement, Mathis attempted to use this moment to pretend they had been playing along with Theodore's great strategy to foil Guillaume's trickery. Guillaume flatly told the brother's they had no future as hunters, and left with Theodore, with Mathis shouting and screaming that he would regret his transgressions against the Levant family all the while.

With all that behind him, Theodore steeled himself for whatever was about to come next. He had passed the preliminary test, and he had shaken off his obnoxious brothers; now all that was left to do was get through the real exam and join this elite group. Then, and only then, could he rest easy knowing he was set on the path he had deemed right for himself, one where he would be free to go where he wanted, and free to be as far from the idiocy of his home life as he needed. All he had to do was go to the 101st floor of this hotel and wait.
@EnterTheHero Any chance of looking at my character?
Leon Brandeau

Leon wondered if it was some form of providence that they happened to go somewhere so familiar for their assignment. Of course, since the Brandeau estate was somewhat further back from the borderlands, he hadn't been able to visit his home, but it was certainly close enough to feel nostalgic. Of more interest was Fort Orello, which was to be their last destination. Leon had a brother stationed at the fort, so it would be great to get the chance to see him on the last leg of their journey. Even if this was just a common patrol assignment, Leon felt like this was probably the best patrol assignment he could have ever gotten.

Then, it seemed as though fate set out to ultimately ruin the experience. They were alerted to an encroaching assault force by their ill fated scout Wagnill. Most of everyone Leon could see were quickly rising to the occasion, and even if they were surprised, they were still among those training to be the fighting elite of the Neo-Arcadian Empire. Leon wasn't about to allow himself to be seen to be less than ready either. As a cadre of soldiers accosted him from the left, Leon readied his vessel and called upon a rocky wall of spears to both protect himself and impede their advance. Wasting no time, he followed up by thrusting Bastion forth from behind the wall, causing it to erupt forth as a powerful lance of stone and earth. The two shock troopers that spearheaded their group were knocked back by the force of the blow and were flung towards the rifleman they were meant to escort, collapsing atop him and ending up in a tangled mess together.

Having finished with his group, Leon heard his fellow northerner's voice ring out, calling for others to stand with him. He raced over to join Gerhardt. "I'm with you, Gerhardt! We'll turn away the enemy together!" He responded to him. He then prepared to fight in a tight group as need be. He imagined there were those in the capital that would mock him for so readily rallying behind a peasant, but the Brandeau family never stuck their nose up at the common man. He was more than ready to take arms alongside any of his comrades in arms.

@Mega Birb
Well, I'm still here. But seeing as Pacifista is no longer listed on the discord, I'm starting to feel like I might be the only one.
This was all really starting to get on Maiko's nerves. Aside from the ongoing apathy towards their concerns over this exceedingly suspicious scenario, it seemed like half the people here were just going along with it. Even the detective seemed to lack scepticism about all this. Now everybody was grabbing the little USB things like they were candy. Not taking candy from strangers seemed like a good principle to apply to this scenario too. But it was just getting so frustrating being stonewalled and having no idea what was going on that even Maiko decided it might be a good idea to play along.

Grabbing a USB from the lot for herself, Maiko felt a weird sensation in her left leg. Between what Tsukuyomi claimed and the comments of others, Maiko got the feeling they were supposed to stick them in whatever part of the body "responded". As absurd as it seemed, Maiko did acknowledge it would be unlikely for her leg to start "responding" as a coincidence. "Here goes nothing..." She murmured as she pushed the USB in the area she assumed she was supposed to. Somehow it worked. A freaking USB just slotted into her body. "Um, okay! That happened!" She called out in shock. "I, uh, um.....what now?" She asked. It was bizarre enough to have shoved a USB into her leg, but now she was apparently supposed to use magic. She had no idea what was coming next, but she could only assume it was going to get weirder and weirder.
@tobiax
Her name wasn't in line with the color code before, and I see that in some instances I missed it, so that's 2 names. If you mean Diana with the third...That's her weapon, named after the Roman goddess of the moon since a Guan Dao is properly called (translated) a reclining moon blade.
