@Mercurial just double checking. How fast can Dahn launch them do you think?

I'm not entirely sure. I usually don't think about these things in terms of super specific amounts. Obviously, it probably shouldn't be so fast Mr. Villain teacher can't dodge, but basically it should be around the same speed you would expect from a harpoon gun of any kind.

@mercurial how long are the harpoons. Are they attached to a chain. Etc.

The actual harpoon parts are fairly short, about half the size of Danh's forearm (please don't make me give them a really specific and arbitrary measurement).

They are attached to chains, which I outlined on my character sheet.
@Apollosarcher I'm still stuck where I was over a week ago.

Once they got inside the house, Danh had to admit it didn't look so bad. He had initially expected to find out it was a complete shit-hole on the inside, but between the carpet and the paintings, the place almost seemed a little refined. Any building positivity he had was thrown out the window when he caught a glimpse of the picture of their 'boss' in handcuffs. It told him that the guy must be some kind of crook. That meant they were in the care of a bloody criminal. Now Danh was really convinced they were in prison; it was just a prison where they had left the biggest and meanest prisoner as the warden. Flights of fancy aside, Danh had little else to do but follow the others out through to the gymnasium.

When this Lorken fellow finally started to explain, he found out that at least some of their number were apparently in the custody of the police. As if Danh needed any more fuel for his prison conspiracy fire, now he had confirmed some of them were actually criminals. Who knew exactly what these people were guilty of? Danh could be surrounded by straight up murderers for all he knew. He cursed the fact that his circumstances forced him to be here. Then again, maybe he could still pull out; not everybody had to be a Hero, and he could still go back and help his mum on the fishing boat. Becoming a Hero had just been a childish fancy of his, he could stand to give it up now, surely...

However, any thoughts of fleeing this place were cut short by the announcement of their initial testing. They were going to have to fight this apparent criminal. Danh was wondering if this was legit or just a front for this guy's murder boner. Worse yet, he was the first one that had to fight. Having been put on the spot, Danh nervously entered the room with Lorken. He tried to tell himself he was just being suspicious; there was no way anybody would let this place run if it wasn't at least a barely functional school, right? He steeled himself for combat, figuring that either way, he would have to give his all to this fight. "Alright then, get..." He aimed his right arm at Lorken "...pierced!" His harpoon then shot forth from his arm, aiming to snag Lorken right in the chest. It was an exceptionally simple opening move, but Danh didn't exactly have a wealth of tactics to employ from the start. He would just have to see how the fight evolved from here.

Masako Imagawa

"Goodness, I really wish there were more Negari about." Masako muttered. So far, her patrol had been completely fruitless. Not a single Negari had appeared to be slain by Charging Cavalier's spear. This exercise had amounted to nothing more than a casual ride upon Chantilly.

"Please tell me you're not serious." Lutin replied harshly. "Negari are a blight on this world. You shouldn't wish for more of them."

"Oh, I know, I know..." Masako began. "But how else might a Magical Girl display her majesty than to defeat her mortal foe? At this rate, I'll be completely redundant."

"If only."

"Pardon?" Masako seemed quite irked by her fairy's reply.

"I said 'If only'." Lutin answered plainly, unashamed of her words. "Magical Girls are a response to a problem. If you weren't necessary, the world would be a better place for it. All this nonsense about 'popularity' and such is just a waste of time and energy."

"Well, I happen to think that the world could use some glamorous heroines regardless of the presence of the Negari, thank you very much." Masako replied petulantly. Even if Lutin had a point, Masako did not like to think that there might be a scenario in which she wouldn't be necessary anymore. She wanted to carry on being a Magical Girl to her dying days. "Alright, that's it; I'm doubling my efforts. I will find something to slay in this city if I have to turn over every pebble to find it!" She then ushered Chantilly forth, intent on widening her search area.

"Uh, aren't we going to stray into someone else's territory like this? You know the other girls can be territorial." Lutin inquired as she followed behind Masako. The last thing she wanted was for them to start a fight with some conceited girl more concerned with territory than getting the job done.

"Come now, surely they will welcome the assistance? It's as you say; we should have more care for keeping the city safe than petty squabbles." Masako's reply made Lutin roll her eyes. She knew that Masako more than anyone was wrapped up in petty concerns, yet she was quite expertly using her own words against her to justify straying into another girl's territory. She had a feeling it was unlikely another girl would be so understanding of this intrusion, but there was no arguing with Masako at this point.

---

It was not long after coming into the territory of Shadowrender that Masako chanced upon the eponymous Magical Girl. Of course, as far as Masako was concerned, what she found was a person in need of assistance, and not a rival to be cautious of. It seemed there was another arriving to help, a rather young girl with wings. For Masako, this was excellent tidings; the more people to assist, the better. Either way, Masako brought her horse to rest before the other spear-wielder. "Greetings, camarade. You seem quite beleaguered. Might I be of assistance?" She said to her. At the very least, Masako imagined she could offer her a ride to somewhere more comfortable to rest.

'I'm going to prison' Was Danh's immediate thought upon finding himself in the wretched flatbed truck that was to be his ride to L.O.S.E.R. Perhaps all the police milling about his life for the last good while had really been there to arrest him for the crime of having wanted to do more than go fishing for a lifetime. Maybe he had just imagined the fact that his dad had turned out to be a murderer in Vietnam. Heck, he wasn't even around anymore, maybe he never even existed, and the real murderer was him. All these thoughts seemed more plausible than the reality; that he hadn't done anything wrong and yet was still being carted in this pissant truck to the worst school in the country.

A short glance at his fellow inmates made it seem all the more absurd. None of these people looked like they belonged here, but then again, for all Danh knew they were killers on par with his dad or something. Worse yet, they might be unfortunate souls who had such pathetic quirks they couldn't help but go to this loser academy. Sure, some of them looked suspicious, like the goat kid and the smoking dude, but who looked more suspicious than the guy with two sharp implements connected to steel chains wrapped around his arms? Unless he was right about going to prison, all of these people might just have astronomical bad luck like himself.

Eventually, their ride came to a stop and they were all ordered out to greet their warm and friendly new boss. It was clear from the cigar, the piercing glare, and his general 'I don't give a shit about you' demeanour that this guy was going to be the bestest, friendliest teacher there ever was. Their introductional method seemed to reinforce his prison theory; here they all were, lined up like a chain gang reciting their prisoner identification number for the warden. The funniest part was that the goat boy seemed to be all too happy to be here. Maybe this guy was actually his dad? He certainly had the horns for it.

"Danh Umimura." He stated clearly when it was his time to speak up. He got the feeling this guy didn't want anything more than the basics.
Leon Brandeau

Leon listened along silently as Althea explained her family history. It was interesting to hear that her family had such deep roots in medicine. It almost made the Brandeaus sound like layabouts, considering their achievements were mostly relegated to the one region of the Empire, rather than the whole land. Before he could follow up on his questions, however, everyone began to take notice of a commotion brewing elsewhere. Leon inevitably followed after Althea and Tzi to find out what was going on. What he found was appalling; a sergeant of the fortress was acting in a manner most unbecoming of a military man. Even if the Aquarian girl was being short with him, it was clear she had cause to do so. There was no call for an assault, and certainly not for whatever he meant by his dungeon threat.

Leon was disheartened to see none of the soldiers of the fort seemed to have the spine to do anything about this, but he was pleased to see more than a few of his direct comrades were quick to step into action. Leon was about to step in himself when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see that he had finally found his brother, Anton Brandeau. "Leon, don't get in the middle of this. I don't know what's about to happen." He spoke in a hushed tone.

"I will not stand around as this travesty continues." Leon replied harshly. He shook free of his brother's grasp and carried on out into the midst of the dispute. At any other time, he would have been keen to stop and chat with his brother whom he hadn't seen for some time, but fraternal reunions could wait until after he had done the right thing. Though for now, Leon wasn't actually intending to do anything more than stand there; Finis had already threatened the sergeant, and Tzi was trying to mediate. Leon's sole contribution was standing by Tzi, between the man and the Aquarian officer. If Tzi's bid was successful, he wouldn't have to do a thing, but between Finis' threat and the man's generally petulant temperament, Leon wasn't so sure it would be so easy. If need be, he would have to brace himself for a fight.

Masako Imagawa

"You've met your match, foul beast!" She called out as she kicked it airborne.

"Take this!" She struck it three times on the chest. "And that!" She followed up by slapping it further into the air with the flat of her weapon.

"And now...for the finisher!" She then impaled it midair, piercing straight through her target, causing its innards to burst forth. "Victory is mine!"

"Are you quite done defeating harmless stuffed animals?" Her fairy companion asked. She was clearly unimpressed by the heroic visage of Masako Imagawa, standing there with her latest foe vanquished. Of course, anyone would probably be less than impressed by her defeat of the teddy bear she purchased just to smack around, but for Lutin, it marked yet another instance of Masako being a complete nutter.

"Well excusez-moi, but I have to practise my technique somehow, Lutin." Masako replied, lowering her stick and allowing the pierced teddy bear to fall to the floor. "The Negari aren't going to sit around and wait for me to preform my beautiful assault, are they?"

"No, Masako, they won't." Lutin answered irritably. "That's precisely why your practise is utterly worthless; Negari do not sit around and wait for indulgent wastrels to set themselves up to look good. It is far more sensible to simply-"

"-practise on a live one so I get a better experience! You're quite right, I'll never get it right without putting my neck out there. Let us find one post haste. Allons-y! En Avant!" Masako immediately made for the door, leaving Lutin to follow behind, muttering "Completely retarded..." under her breath. In any case, Masako was prepared to steal away into the night and scour the city for the foul Negari. With her parents constantly busy, they tended not to police her activities, so long as she maintained a high achievement in academics and similar fields. There was nothing stopping Masako Imagawa from donning her magical persona and making the city a better place with style and grace.
