To bad I can't change my name to Mobius.

Bio

I am an old roleplayer from the days of Dial-up where everyone went home to roleplay anime adventures after watching their afternoon toonami run, and probably older than that. I started around the late 90s distinctively because I recall playing Final Doom and Metal Gear Solid while trolling Compuserve chat rooms and roleplaying so maybe a year before 99 or 98 generously? Speaking of Compuserve.

After the amount of FUN I had in AOL I switched ISPs because AOL sucked in terms of service. I got to taste blood in PVP beyond the scope of what I already obtained in AOL.. my own blood. I saw the contrast between different fighting styles and fell in love with such an idea of an infinite universe of roleplay fighting, but not before my bewildering OTK. AOL had its great fighting talent, but Compuserve's original Zones pvp was a different beast entirely. There was no rhyme or reason. There was only fighting and permanent (almost) killing. People spent days researching frivolous AskJeeve science articles, obscure words, not-established supernatural theories, actual unproven theories, and overall cheapness to kill other players. I changed. I went from barely spelling to spelling decently. I vested time in the ability to put my wit against the locals on a daily basis and the excitement of dueling, raids, or simple death matches.

Then I forgot there was an entire universe, and fell in love all over again. I lost internet but gained determination. I'd discover free-form roleplaying on RPGchat back in 2003 and changed once again. I was introduced to a more laid back but sensible scale of power-efficiency. These people were more concerned about player positioning and simplicity than abstract and absurd metaphysics, and though Compuserve's meta had remain true to function it didn't offer the tone to level down a bit to something comprehensible. Scale the pointless and streamline your idea. The universe was a big place for me and I think that excited me more. My ambition for battle and war matched now a bigger scale and I would fight randoms all over to just prepare for it. RPGchat was good for one specific thing and that's style in writing. Forum based roleplaying focused specifically on how well you actually wrote circa 2004 and up, and my propensity for verbosity had to adjust. Transitioning is a term I'd use but you'd think I was talking about an operation.

2005 got my net back and suddenly my 3 to 4 paragraph barely able to post a day became a tremendous 7 paragraph and up epic for a specific fight because I. Love. This. So. Much. Ask Reno. My fight bout back into the game was by-far the most intense nights of my career because I was active, fierce, and finally took in everything I've learned. My character then is my main now. Jhieten represents that drive and dedication I put in from hours of even attempting to get one hour of net in a forum that demanded a decent level of quality in modern-fantasy clan feuding. An addiction is one that requires a fix from a fiend. You can't fix passion. I OTK'd Murrocko something nasty he never recovered from. I wonder till this day if he still thinks about that. Reno's proposal to go around wrecking shit titillated me more than the act itself. I think that's what makes me fight PVP. The idea of just fighting and killing itself is much more exciting and keeps me focused; however, let's ignore the paranoia some of my Ls awarded me. No one talks about their defeats. Shhhh.

2005 is my best year. Fighting here. Killing there. Being apart of a big clan and being its main big bad enforcer guy. I messed it up introducing Delve to Reno and had to kill the operation. I lament that still. Poor Reno. He was in the way of our cross-fire. Fellow zoner rivalry has its casualties I'm afraid, but it isn't like I didn't suffer. I became a moderator on Animeleague. That's pain. I became a new moderator for a new clan nation section thanks to Rita and... yeah, Delve; unfortunately, that was short lived because of a combination of both roleplay shenanigans and personal issues that were concurrent and intertwined. I broke my own separation of business and personal. We all learn the hard way. Back to RPGchat.

2006 is a year I don't like talking about. Let's talk about 2007. I did absolutely nothing of value on RPGchat because I got a little too caught up in making trouble ooc, arguments, and playing DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Sorry Ru; however, this is the year that changed everything. TheZones Duel League. A tournament I made to just run a tournament on a forum no one cares about but me. I modeled the damn thing out of my love of Compuserve's zones which precipitated my penchant for unwarranted violence and murder. Compuserve no longer had its actual players in it so it's time to reinvent the wheel -- make it better. What a year to learn that players will cheat to win and cause drama. Taste of my own medicine (except the cheating part). TZDL2007 didn't change how I viewed the game anymore than just restructuring the definitions of rules and being more concrete; by the way, changes that are huge are usually subtle and slow. I say that unironically.

2009 though. I got Paradox, Ru came around, Argryia... what a player. Basically I got some veterans I knew from AOL and one from MSN (Mystic). Decoy got training to get into Vertex (we were going to crash RPGchat) and ran another fun tournament. This was a bit different though. I got to see Ares get completely crushed by Ru. Holy hell I didn't know she can play that way. Oh snap Argryia is actually pre -- THE $%#@ IS STRING META?! WHAT?! So that can be done.. I always wondered that. Huh.. guess Mystic couldn't handle that. Poor guy. Paradox why did you even use an EMP bomb that early? Now I have to call Meta-game. Everyone seemed to LOVE the definition list though. I learned that I've acquired a new talent and love for the game that transcended even violence itself. I discovered there's order in what people believed is chaos, and they didn't know because these phenomenons didn't have definitions. They were never invoked by name but by action. Man this universe gets bigger the smaller an object actually is. Then TZDL2011 hit and blew everything away. There's a demand.

At first people just like the definition list and some sites asked to borrow it. Ok cool, but now they are asking me to write more. They want to know these terminologies. There's a name for occurrences. I overhauled my baby, made live-streams, podcast interviews, and general fun asshattery in our ooc or phone conferences. I got to meet the wonderful people of ZEJ (once was called CoU) and that's how I got acquainted with Keileon (known as Jason at the time). Draven finally joined. Argryia and Ru is there and the first clan rivalry between the AoA and.. Vertex? Well can't really have a clan rivalry in a tournament that has people representing themselves but Lokanas sure believed he'd beat Argryia. I warned him not to underestimate her cause she's a girl. I know he thinks I fucked him over but that OTK is now legacy to a player who became the literal embodiment of top tier play at the time. She'll thank him moreso than insult the guy, but I'm sure his scorn is much more lethal. TZDL2011 was the height of some of the ooc memes and fun but I learned a lot about being a judge and running an event, a community, and myself. I've learned to calm down. I want my players, assets, to have fun. They like the balance, meta, and information. I will give them even more next time. They'd have to just wait 8 months for a semi-finals round... oops. $#@! Skypark.

TZDL2012 is when I learned the meta from a much more bigger picture and every year since my understanding grew. I became content in watching my players compete and perform to expected levels though Argryia just kept growing. Really. I got to see Paradox and Seth Mayvus come around, Draven compete, Keileon compete, Goliath debuts, Ru come back, and Argryia showing everyone she is a legitimately good player. I was not defanged -- quite the opposite. I realized my fangs needed sharpening, but it isn't your bite that's lethal. It's the force. What I saw there changed everything and it all came together again.. until certain shit happened but we'll just not bring it up. Sorry Seth and Paradox because your match suffered because of it.

From there on my love for exploration overcame the game itself.. by exploring the game itself.
vertex.wikia.com/wiki/Home_Page

Instead I invested my time understanding concepts, tactics, theories, and even functions of the game I thought I knew and I kind of actually did. That's not the thing that surprised me. What surprised me is that EVERYONE already knows.. they just don't know they are invoking these concepts, at least not by name or a uniformed jargon.. maybe lexicon? I'm not in the mood to synonym this. From here on I am much more interested in seeing new applications of the meta or how it's used rather than beating someone up.. but that's because I want to see order and structure to some degree. Prometheus Project. Not related to NASA. Dabo Ignem. I'll be punished accordingly, but first the mission. I dedicate a lot of my brain power into roleplaying and not just going in a thread and pretending to be a weeb because that doesn't interest me.. not in the conventional way. It's full-circle here. The competitive streak of the original zones and the free-form liberty of 2005 where RPGchat's c/g and Animeleague's.. CN? I don't know. Whatever. Anyway the free-form thing. Yeah. That. Bring back a time of roleplay where pvp was fun as much as it was deviously competitive, but this time with some uniformity and some structure. Definitely NO POLITICS.. unless IC where most people's attention SHOULD BE AT!

I am going to announce the permanent barring of Dirge, Albatross, Metal Tortoise, and Demon Lord Laser in any TZ capacity or anything I run specifically.
@Devil

On that note, sometime you and I will need to have a 1v1.

I was going to do that before TZDL, but when we do I'll use my main.
@Devil
After some discussion I'm going to respect my teams wishes and bow out of the tournament. I'll get in on another one somewhere down the line. I'm still open to brawls in the arena though or other Rp's.

How unfortunate, but nonetheless I understand. I'll shoot you a PM for anything in the future (which I will) or to 1v1 with my Wrestler vs your Lucha because I actually look forward to it.

Sorry for the delay everyone.. grading characters and players who potentially quit put us behind.
I want to ask everyone individually in the luchalliance if they can confirm whether they are quitting or staying so I can officially remove you from the tournament. For those who are leaving I consider this unfortunate for us both, but I hope next time will be a better experience if any.
I'm going to address the easiest concerns first to the hardest in the fairness of myself. Now before I begin I want Everyone to look at a few rules this tournament has. It is imperative we all do so because it will frame the overall perspective I and my judges have and why this reply will take the route it will. Be warned: I don't care for the heirs of "professionalism" unless I am outright flaming someone which I won't be.

The B/R list, scheduling system, special rulings, and these general rules are subject to change at a given moment.
Mobius, and by extension the judges, are NOT responsible for the players in this tournament upon entry. We cannot or will not guarantee rulings and verdicts in your favor nor will we screen, examine, analyze, or evaluate your post before you submit in your fight. We MAY only do so for legality, but all discrepancies fall upon the player whether it is your profile sheet or any action you make.
You CANNOT use any power, weapon, ability, item, or etc that is NOT stated in your profile sheet UNLESS authorized by a map; however, you may use or create byproducts of your abilities, weapons, power, items, etc through In Character creativity.
For ambiguity: Your powers, abilities, weapons, armor, and etc must be adequately described or its behavior[How it functions and why] and properties[The metrics: how fast or strong] will Default.

Now let's begin

After being forced to make concessions to La Màquina’s sheet that not only break the spirit of her character, but render her easy elimination in the preliminary rounds of the tournament a nigh-certainty,

If reducing the amount of stack your blazing heart has and reducing the 200 meter all sensory "info catch" is enough to eliminate you from the preliminaries then you have extremely limited faith in your own abilities to perform. The spirit of your character? All I asked was two specific things from your character and I'll forgo the confidence to produce this log.

I get home at 4:30PM EST and take a shower before getting on the machine around 5 or 5:30PM so I have yet to answer this. I want people to read this carefully because we might need to reference it later.

My friend AtlasRize was summarily rejected from the tournament with little explanation given, no chance offered to correct grievances with his entry, and informed that he need not reapply to this TZDL event, or any TZDL event held in the future.

Please refrain from making up fabrications especially when I can just post this
pastebin.com/1eau1sSp

In case what people wonder what this line meant click the link
"it may seem unfair to not allow you to re-apply for a new character I was ensured by you that all characters in your group tailored your characters to the rules of the tournament."

This is the Ultron situation all over again. A player didn't clearly see the scheduling system or didn't care for it (who knows) and then came in with that kind of build. The player wasn't banned from TZDL. He just can't compete at this event. I was promised, by him exclusively, that things were up to snuff and they weren't. So I held him accountable. Ultron didn't promise me anything, but he made an assumption and copy-pasted from a wiki without READING THE RULES and making the changes therein. Why should I be obliged at this point? Why should I have to sit down and craft his powers for him if he can't take the time to go "hmm I wonder if this entropy thing was a bit much."

My friend Tezcatlipoca was informed that Rey del Oscuridad II’s sheet was bitterly contentious and on the verge of outright rejection, and yet has gone for close to two weeks without a single word offered by way of advice, correction requests, or indeed anything else which could be used to correct this ‘bitterly contentious’ sheet.

Who told him that? You know what don't answer I know who it is and I know that Dirge has been telling you and your friends everything. Why do you think I made this post, and this, and this, to answer you? I knew from the very time Enki had his conniption that he was feeding information (and generally being a rogue); however, we did NOT outright reject him. We came to an agreement that we'll fairly sort him out provided how everyone else is doing, but he was not slated for last. We wanted to reduce the scale of some of his abilities which is a far point from a rejection so save that misinformation for someone who doesn't know.

I myself was subjected to the revocation of my approval to compete immediately following what I perceived to be a respectful, if somewhat heated, discussion of the Luchalliance usage of the term ‘ether’ and our methodology of inclusiveness rather than exclusiveness concerning the use of mystical phenomena-based powers and abilities.

This is a mistake on our part, but if you, and everyone, read the PM we apologized for it. It was an oversight Enki brought to Dirge and then we decided to investigate his claim. Now if we really thought less of you and your crew then we wouldn't have. That's right. Enki's own message to Dirge about YOU doing whatever you want made us consider examining the issue in fairness. I'd be very careful where you are getting your intel from.

As far as ether: Every time a profile had it mentioned it was a stack and catch-all. Don't blame me. Blame yourselves for not describing it better or putting limitations on it. You know why I say that? and not to attack Negato, but you both have something in common. When I inquired about the Blazing Heart instead of you making a proposed change like Everett did (you know, complying and moving on) you decided to tell me a huge story of what is can and can't do without actually doing the changes. You believe you can get by on some secret ghost explanation of your build and I'd go "ok he told me in PM what it does guys don't worry" how the hell is that fair to the other competitors? I ask to put it in your profile sheet not you explain it to me in a PM. The time it took you to write that you could have sat down and actually made a cool system on how its intended functions work or limitations or something.

and this in the face of a tournament where a single character is permitted to consist of two full-sized dragons able to devastate the entire battlefield at once with unavoidable bombardments of lightning.

You wouldn't believe how we attacked Keileon's Green Breath and had spent two days on the NPC armor ability so I wouldn't exactly talk about someone else if I were you. Keileon's electricity is tame compared to a character who can know it's electricity, how it works, and then use a counter energy fuel to create holoconstructs to instant counter cause "her attacks are simple enough" from 200 meters that's less than 1000 feet. Your very character who has an aura that can also be adjusted to counter anything because Blazing Heart would allow you to make anything your character will know the properties of said energy. That was what I said in the PM above and I am saying it here. Darth's sensory range was 1000 feet and did even LESS than yours and he complied to 150' no complaints and none of this.

Sadly, my backhanded rejection from the tournament and the questionable treatment of my fellows does not afford us the opportunity to meet you on the field of glory.

You were treated NO differently than anyone else in this tournament. That is a flat-out lie. This is a demonstrably proven lie and any pending or accepted player can tell you. I inquire everything.

We will not waste our time further with a man who clearly does not desire our presence and ‘invited’ us merely to try and inflate his numbers.

Who didn't want you? I asked Dias for you specifically because I wanted you to fight and build you stupid name up. That's also why I wanted him too and a bunch of specific names to begin with. The brand was to be made off of somewhat known players I've scouted for many years. The new guys are just as important as you, but they don't cry nearly as much.

And to the TZDL management team, I say this: good fucking riddance.

How unfortunately petty but the feeling is mutual if this is how you behave.

Frankly I agree with what Laser said about handling people's characters through judgments and not through this rigorous-as-shit profile screening which has been grating on my patience for a long fucking time. Profiles should be given an individual once over, possibly even a twice, and thrice-over, but at this point it's starting to become a dick-and-balls-in-a-vice over with layers of scrutiny involved over every vein and wrinkle of the scrotum.
[@Albatross]

That's because there's rules and standards we want and we're trying to ensure certain things aren't breached. I find it funny you say this because had i let people in all willy-nilly then you'd complain about me not enforcing the rules on certain characters.

I know the cold shoulder on profile recommendations has frozen out Tezcatlipoca's desire to compete completely. Being told your sheet is a hair's breadth from being rejected, then left swinging in the wind for close to half a month wondering WHY your sheet is a hair's breadth from rejection does a number on one's drive and enthusiasm for an event.

Who told him this? Confirm this and if this was told to him then he wasn't told the truth or it was Dirge masquerading as one of you which is against the rules and means you harbor a cheater. So I demand evidence we told him any of this.

Enki has had to abandon one sheet already and was, prior to the decision to pull out, wrestling with the judges over his second

He did so on his own. We was never given a formal PM from me. He was handled by Dirge. So whatever he was being told I can't account for.

Rize was informed that he was unwelcome at the event completely, and at all future events of the same name.

Lie

Considering the fact that Mobius invited Dias and myself, specifically by name, to attend - and did so on our home board, with copious evidence of our typical profiles and styles

That is another assumption you made. You made these assumptions when we argued before about your ether use. You said you assumed you can use it here without needing to elaborate. You assumed I'd help you. You didn't read the rules. I can't guarantee you anything. That is THE MOST honest and forthright thing I can tell anyone. Do you think I have time to read all profiles thrown at me prior to a tournament? I use to do that and even helped people make better builds from it, but then I realized I'll be holding you by the hand. This is a tournament with set rules and this time around, unlike previous TZDLs, everything is RIGHT here for you to read and reference. You didn't take the time to do it yourself and half of TZDL, or any tournament, is to challenge your ability TO make an appropriate build that works within the tournament and destroys everyone you encounter. Do you go to a tournament and ask a judge to see if something is banned if they have a ban list available? Seriously?

but I have better things to do than to play Sandbagger #3 on Mobius' tournament brackets.

Please. All I ask was to reduce the amount of energies.. fuck this I got a better idea.

Your blazing heart can produce a "seemingly" unlimited energy in different varieties to facilitate whatever you can make with holoconstructs. Let's sink that in. You think I am sandbagging you because I ask to reduce the almost HUMONGOUS range of different energy types you have while you can make whatever you want? Even Enki said this was bullshit and I agreed which is why you got your PM, but I am sandbagging you.. Perhaps if you were a better fighter you wouldn't feel that way because if I had an unlimited source of energy that can make almost any kind of energy (unspecified) to fiance constructs of energies to do anything I want (blazing heart justification) and can discern tech/energy and then counter with it cause of both I would actually tone it down too. Shit you complained about Keileon up there, but she actually has like one elemental and subsets of her fires that just do a small range of things compared to your Blazing Heart. Yeah.. sandbag.

for everyone else:

The judging of your characters are slow because we have argued and fought over your characters and shit to death for the sake of being thorough. We have given everyone, even Ultron, a fair chance and grade things appropriately. This bullshit here is only going to slow me down even more that I have to address one man on a mission to discredit the league because he can't play fair like everyone else. I mean EVERYONE ELSE no one has done this even Negato capitulated and then was approved and got to keep a lot of his stuff (he has kinetic fire, regular fire, poison fire, dimensional fire, fire that can use a variety of other stuff). We have been at 5 profiles a night (including pending) to get everyone approved. The reason for approval is to avoid THIS VERY THING happening in the tournament. The hardest part of judging is the fighting and if we all have our established shit in order the only arguing will be what happened in the fight not the person's power itself we all passive aggressively internalize until we find an opportunity to blow up and say "WHY IS HE ALLOWED TO DO THIS!" We'll get that anyway, but at least with the screening there is more of a fighting chance then someone literally autohitting you in their field (hence why I ask for reductions to certain types of sensory). We do the best we can and ensure not only can we properly grade everyone (scheduling system) but try to find a way where we don't destroy your strat. You can read the PMs.

What I won't do is build your character for you or indirectly teach you how to play.
Welcome to the New Beginnings tournament, sponsored by the combined financial backings of several prominent hyper-universe members. As per custom, Liaison has been chosen to host this inaugural tournament, in an effort to prevent bias from either backer.

This should be it so far. We banged out a lot of these today. Looking forward to many more tomorrow. I hope I am not missing anyone.
I fail to see how we're trying to impose anything on anyone other than just simply saying "this is how these characters that we created work." None of us is dictating how other people's entries work. Also I still think you're missing the point that "ether" is just a word used to encompass an array of other things.

No I know exactly how it functions. The concern and general violation is the stack, and if not the stack is the borderline Schedule 2 because it can be formed to do anything.

Logic is logic, and applies equally well to fantasy as it does to reality. Unless you're operating on a basis of intended refutation of logic for some reason - chaos, entropy, some of the more bizarre things that have popped up in comics over the years whose stated intention is to defy logic purposefully - then logic can be applied regardless of the fantastical nature of the subjects you're working with. Logic is just logic. "Does it make sense for Subject A to interact in this manner with Subject B" or "Is there an understandable relationship between Subject C and Subject D." Fantasy and logic are not mutually exclusive concepts. Don't conflate logic with realism.

You are conflating logic with fantasy considering people can come in with whatever they want however they want it. The very thing Ether is a contention for, but somehow that's more "logical" than saying it doesn't exist.

I don't see that this is being ignored at all. Frankly, I'm afraid this whole thing is now getting buried in semantics. Forces interact, as they should. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but everything I've seen suggests that you're saying that the forces don't interact. Apologies if I am misunderstanding your point of view, but the whole point of the way some of the characters are built is that the forces do indeed interact, regardless of what label that has been applied to them. Really, that's the whole concept behind this "ether" term that you seem to dislike.

Your little jabs aside -- then we can agree that there is an interaction. Why does an omni-power require compatibility again?

Here is my stance because apparently this hasn't been stated or perhaps certain people are misconstruing the issue. I don't care about fluff. I don't care what you name the color pink as even if it's red or blue or no color at all. I don't mind you and your crew wanting Ether for their own characters and powers, because that isn't the point of contention. I don't care if someone has a Naruto character that uses Chakra, as Chakra behaviors similarly to Ether minus the whole multiverse lore. The problem isn't the Ether but its potential application. The application of such a tremendous blanketed power with a broad classification you guys advocating for is what I am after. You got it twisted. The issue is that with how it is presented it can be applied to do an array of EVERYTHING no matter how out of the way it is. You are subscribing to a "realm energy" where you can conjure any force or any kind of power(s) type. That is Stacking by definition of the tournament.

I don't mind the energy itself if it functioned to justify your character's power(s) and sub-types, but all I have seen is "it can do anything" and then allows you to do everything. The oversight of Laser's Blazing Heart is exactly this. Some of you even described it as an unlimited plane of everything. The worst can be that, potentially, you can even classify other people's powers to Ether which can give you the "root" or "fundamental" building blocks to cripple or even meta an attack. This is why TZDL will not adhere to realm energies. I don't mind them for your characters if it is isolated to just that, but I ask for a scale down on how infinitely broad it is in application.
So... You don't like our characters because they're not one trick ponies?

The opposite is true.

Because that's how that little rant reads.

Irrelevant.

I can understand saying "you can't have thirty powers that make no sense together" because it's nonsensical.

No, in fact the opposite is true. I cannot say "it doesn't make sense to have this," on someone's profile sheet. I can assume so from a tactical standpoint, but that is NOT my place to judge. A player who wants to have a fire elemental using ice does not need my input as I cannot tell him what does or does not make sense. This is the problem you, and your group, struggle with. You try to impose a system that our tournament doesn't operate on, but you'd prefer I say "it doesn't make sense" which is much more arbitrary than some established and enforceable rule. I can equally say "well ether doesn't make sense" and then what?

However if those powers are related and logically make sense as working in some sort of system (like a metahuman who can initially control fire later developing the ability to change his physical structure into an energy state - pyromorphism - would be related thematically and logically) I'm not sure I see the issue.

Whose logic does any of this follow? None of the things anyone's powers do or even the powers themselves exist. How do you determine a logical "sense" of made up shit? You know what does make sense? At least crafting rules that a particular type of something doesn't encompass a broad ranges of things so it isn't super effective against all types. That is something we can all agree on because "Godmodding" wouldn't be an almost acceptable rule in general T1 roleplaying. You guys can come in with your character's structure because that's not what's being contested. The application of such a thing IS being contested.

And the ether argument is, frankly, pretty stupid. I have never once seen anyone argue that just because a different label is affixed to it that it shouldn't interact unless they're specifically trying to be a power gaming douche bag. Let's not do that kids.

That's all good and all, but you and your group signed up for the tournament so you signed up for the conditions and stipulations set by it. You have ignored one of the basic points of my post when I said how things interact CAN be tabulated even if they aren't "universally" compatible which it itself is a really illogical concept as forces in real life, no matter how compatible, will and do conflict with each other. Friction is a thing.
