Hey boss, why don't you go first, since there is going to be a time skip? That way we can get a feel for what the party will be like and everyone will have a good starting spot! I can go right after you and we can get the ball rolling then!
"Thank you. Is it... okay for me to keep this? Or is there someway I can pay you for it? Or... since I broke it, replace it? I see you weave them in your hair sometimes, very beautiful." the phantom said, catching her off guard. Naya hadn't actually known for certain he could talk, so to hear the quiet humming of his voice made her let out a surprised giggle.
“Ah, he speaks! And such charming words you have, specter,” the witch laughs, but she still flushes a little under the praise. No one liked it when she wore the bird skulls in her hair, the children even spread ugly rumors about how she mashed up their organs while they still lay gasping and ate them for breakfast while they watched.
Which was just rude. She would never waste precious ingredients by eating them! Honestly, what kind of second rate hack of an alchemist did they take her for?
Naya catches sight of a darkly dressed figure stomping off towards the forest, recognizing him as her business competitor almost instantly. “Caezel!” She calls out with a wave, but he either doesn’t hear her or ignores her completely. The latter was most likely the case, that man was a prickly old beast. Always grumbling about something.
The phantom extends the stick towards her, the morbid pendant swaying gently in the frigid wind as Naya turns her attention back to him, reaching forward and giving the skull a gentle nudge. “You may keep it, specter. It is a lovely ornament for your stick friend,” she concurs, wrapping her coat tighter around herself to try to keep the cold at bay. Humans didn’t typically make their home on this side of the border and even though she was born here and well acclimated to the harsh conditions by now, it didn’t change the fact that it was absolutely freezing out here. “You need’nt worry about replacing it since I have so many,” she explained, waving a hand dismissively.
"Might not look like I can do much, but I can sort of collect certain things that you might find useful," the apparition spoke again and Naya found herself leaning in to better hear the compelling humming noise he emitted. The brunette thought about telling him not to worry about repaying her, but she knows that most folks around here, no matter what state of living they were in, didn’t like owing debts.
“I always need different things from the forest,” she admits, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “The ones I really need are on the other side of the border. I haven’t been since they tried to set me on fire a couple months back,” she confesses, grinning as if it was an amusing anecdote and not a harrowing near death experience. Approaching footsteps cause her to pause, turning to see Angelo and Alistair approaching from the courtyard.
“Hello,” she calls, nodding to each of them as they drew closer. “Did you come to look at my wares, or did you need a place to rest?” Naya questions, reaching out and touching the doorknob. The shop gives a groan and the floorboards creak as the old house welcomes her home, the cylinders in the lock scraping together to open and let her back in. The magic of it leaves her skin reverberating and makes her a bit breathless. “Come in, have a look around,” she grins, before shifting her gaze to the vampire. “I had a spell that required bloodletting earlier, so I apologize for the smell. Mind your manners, Alistar, my shop eats people who don’t behave,” she warns, but her tone is friendly.
Naya wasn’t overly concerned though, a lot of vampires seemed to enjoy the taste of the more ethereal creatures. From what she’d been told humans were pretty average, almost dull flavor wise compared to angels, fairies, elves, or hell, even werewolves. One vampiric customer had gone so far as to say humans were like stale bread, while an elf was akin to the most tender of steaks. The brunette had never come across someone who could tell her what witch blood tasted like, but she wasn’t really in a hurry to find out about that one.
“You too, specter,” she began, turning back to her ghostly friend. He didn’t really need her to hold the door open for him she suppossed, but she did it all the same. “Oh,” the witch stops, eyes going wide before pressing on, “Do you have a name?” She questions curiously, blinking up at the spirit. “I’m Naya.”
@King Atlas Aww, it's so cute that Alistar is afraid she's going to run away from him, especially considering she just had her fingers in his mouth! As long as he doesn't make any sudden movements towards her throat (or wrist. Or any of those other arteries. XD ) then she'll stay pretty docile. ^.^
@ArenaSnow Ah, it seems we're going back to bitter rivals. *Rubs hands together* Let the alchemist games begin!
Also belonged to her mother. Naya only uses it for bloodletting for spells/potions
Personality: Naya doesn't actually murder people. But some spells call for certain, er, more visceral ingredients, so if someone wants to trade their dear old mum's corpse for a love spell, who is she to deny them?
It is this sort of practice that makes some people leery of the witch. It isn't an uncommon sight to come into the shop and find the body of some animal or person up on the slab, their organs floating in jars as the lithe woman serenely wipes her scarlet hands on her apron. It doesn't help that when she does her shopping she occasionally forgets to change out of her work robes and gives some poor merchant an eyeful of her bloody clothing.
Her time around the occult has made it virtually impossible for her to get squeamish at the sight of gore and her ability to joke and see humor in dark circumstances makes her a very strange human indeed. Naya is also innately curious about creatures of different races and will often badger them with all sorts of questions until both parties are exasperated.
Well, except werewolves. Those guys are terrifying.
Oddities aside, Naya is a clever girl with a sharp tongue and a wicked sense of humor. She is not easily frightened or intimidated, but is smart enough to know when to keep her mouth shut lest she upset something more fearsome than her. The witch is also a bit over protective of those she cares about and doesn't much understand the concept of personal space.
Bio: Naya was born to a hardworking witch who owned a little apothecary on the outskirts of a sleepy town by the name of Minora. The little girl spent long days helping her mother tend the garden, grind down the herbs, and adding new recipes to their grimoire. It was a strange life, but Naya always felt loved and most importantly, she was very happy.
Her magic didn't come in during her twelfth year like it did for most of her family, but her mother didn't seem concerned about it. "These things take time, my girl. Your blood will wake precisely when it is supposed to," the witch told her, dropping a kiss onto her daughter's hair. "Now be a dear and fetch me my hammer. This man's skull is thicker than I thought."
Her mother died during Naya's nineteenth summer, when a freshly turned werewolf lost control and attacked her in the market. The town folk managed to subdue the creature, but the damage was done. Naya brought her mother's body home, stored her insides, and ground down her bones, just like she would have wanted. After that the young woman took over the apothecary, making the salves and ointments that don't require a supernatural touch and bartering with the other witches for everything else.
Things were uneventful until one day during the twenty third winter of her life when Naya was out in the forest, scraping yellow lichen off an old oak tree. Her blade slipped and sliced open her finger. The blood oozed out of the wound, crimson rivulets landing on the bark and suddenly she felt potential and vertigo all at once. A surge of something passed through her and in the next moment the youth was on the ground, breathless and blinking up at the canopy of leaves above her. When she looked back to the tree it was utterly engulfed in the fungus and a cluster of nightshade has begun to blossom around it's base.
The magic in her blood had finally awoken, long after she had given up on it.
It was second nature after that to start honing her craft. Sure she fumbled a bit and turned a few more people into toads than she'd originally planned, but her mother's weathered grimoire guided her and by the time her twenty fifth spring came around she's gained quite the reputation for being a talented, albeit strange, alchemist.
Extra: The palms of both of her hands are scarred from all the bloodletting she’s had to do for various spells. Does not go anywhere without her grimoire.
@ArenaSnow The name is Minora and I 100% just made it up in the fly. :P I used it in my bio and Ace seemed okay with it, so I just carried it over here. I imagine it's a pretty medium sized town, with a square where most of the shops and bars are.
But play around with it as you see fit, as long as the boss lady approves! :3
*Covers Naya in all the silver jewelry.* Now we can be besties! XD
"Nooooupe. Cant do that to someone, I care too much. HERE. LOVE THIS ONE INSTEAD, they can actually hug you."
Oh my goodness, so sad! ;_; I just imagine Naya having a tough day for some reason like an experiment blew up and she wasted some kind of precious ingredient and she's so upset and Re'Mane just takes his stick and pats her head with it like, "...there, there. It'll be fine."
Now that I look at both Naya and Carson's face claims next to each other, they kinda look like they could get siblings XD
Well, that sort of makes sense, since both face claims are from my character bank. I apparently like the same type when it comes to boys and girls. ;)
@Nevix I'm not the boss (That title goes to the lovely @Ace of flames01) but I'm 99.9% sure she's still accepting! ^.^
And Ace, it would be an interesting relationship, wouldn't it? She could lock him in the cellar on full moons so he won't kill anyone else. <3
I'm open to it, but I also really like the idea of Naya x Ra'Mane, not gonna lie. It would be so cute, they just hang out all the time and one day Naya realizes she's in love with him, but she can't ever touch him and she'll never see his face (plus, I'm not sure he's capable of loving someone at this point). All the sad, unrequited love feels.
