Do you like cyberpunk? Do you like stories? Do you like complicated characters, and conspiracies? Take a look! roleplayerguild.com/topics/1..

Bio

Hi! I'm Naril. I write, build things, and I'm incredibly busy, all the time. I'm probably older than you. I'm not interested in isekai, school settings, sandboxes, excessively grimdark settings, or invitation-only threads; I'm very picky about militaria, I don't care for A Song of Ice and Fire, Nation roleplay bores me to tears, most fandom doesn't really catch my attention, and though I prefer Advanced-level writing, I'm not going to help you write your book (Unless you feel like paying my day rate) - which almost certainly means I'm not here. Some day, maybe. Probably not, though!

I am interested in science fiction, cyberpunk, space operas, and stories of working together, uplift, and progress. You'll catch my attention with fantasy adventures in an interesting world, or with almost any modern fantasy. I have a soft spot for superhero stories, and you might find me in the occasional Star Wars or Star Trek fandom.

My standards are high for myself and mild for everyone else; I love writing dialogue and making you feel like you can taste the place I'm creating. I write in the style I like to read, which is the part I find fun. If you want an example of the authors I enjoy, look at Ann Leckie, Tamsyn Muir, N.K. Jemisin, Martha Wells, Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman.

Oh my goodness! It's so good to see you. I hope you're doing as well as you can. :3

Edit: I'm going to be quite a bit later on the next post than I thought - I wound up deciding to go an entirely different direction while I was doing an editing pass on what I meant to post yesterday. With luck, this will get the story out of the prologue and into a little more narrative motion. I'd expect it up by Monday or Tuesday, as I'm going to be either at the airport, flying, or checking into my hotel. Fortunately all this travelling ends on Saturday, and it's over for the rest of the year and substantially into next. I'm really beginning to despise the smell of my local airport.

I'll also point out, just as a hint, that Cat has said something very important that nobody's asked about yet. :3
I'm deeply intrigued by this! There's quite a lot to churn through - which I don't mind - but I'm definitely interested enough to do just that. Maybe you'll see something from me. :3
Ooh! Even though I'm already running a paranormal-investigation thread, I love what you've got for Ianus Congreatio. :3 My interest is piqued, and very much expressed!
Yay posts! I will get something up by Saturday - sorry for the long wait, but I'm working then traveling tomorrow, and tonight I'm rather tired. :3 I hope you're all doing well! <3
@lady horatio I'm so sorry to hear about your trip! I hope you can at least recover at home with some tea and a good book. At least, that's what helps me. When I'm not doing one of my thousand other hobbies. *laughs*

I hope @Austronaut is settling in in Australia. :3
Hi everyone!

I'm going to be flying for the rest of the day, but I'd like to just check on everyone. I know that everyone's pretty busy, but we're coming up on two weeks without an IC post. Are we all just that busy (Totally okay if we are)? Do I need to add something to the current IC post? Should I re-open the cast for applications?

If this comes down to "Naril Just Needs To Be More Patient," I'm okay with that. :3
Mm. I'd like to hear at least a couple other voices before I decide if I'm putting up another OOC thread. I'm sure someone out there has an opinion! :3
Good morning everyone!

I'm going to be flying for most of Sunday evening, so I won't be as available as usual then. I'll also be busy during the day for the following week, but I'll be able to reply to anything that might come up in the evening. :3

I hope everyone is having a good week!
How interesting, I hadn't expected votes for the cyberpunk story. :3 I'd like to hear a few more opinions before I get very far, but I do have (as I do for all of these) quite a lot of out-of-character outlining for that story.

As for me, I'm every one of those things - some of them professionally. *winks* And I did love Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, though I read it years and years ago. Maybe I'll see if I can find my copy for some airport reading.

Hi everyone!

I’ve been having a few ideas over the last month, and I’ve also been more than a little shocked to find that I have the mental bandwidth to maybe think about running a second thread. So, naturally, I thought I’d see who might be interested in what’s been floating around my head. :3

Don’t you see? Now is the time to strike, to change everything. The old world is dying - what we’ll do can only be called mercy.

A story-focused, character-driven cyberpunk conspiracy thriller. This world would look a lot more like Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell than The Matrix. If anyone’s read Chuck Wendig’s excellent new book, Zer0es, there might be some influences from there, too. :3 The characters will have to cut through a web of secrets and lies not only for their own sake - but for stakes larger than any of them likely could have imagined. The world will be filled with artificial augmentation, synthetic intelligence, pervasive technology, and maybe even a little body horror. You’ll dodge corporate goons, chase government agents, find unlikely allies and, if you survive, change the world. But will you change the future - or only delay the inevitable?

…We must no longer be defined by our memories of that great conflict. A generation ago, we were explorers. Today, we continue that legacy.

This would be a continuing series of stories set in the Star Trek universe, considerably after any of the TV series, and not in the new films’ alternate universe. Decades ago, the major powers of the galaxy were collectively involved in a protracted, wide-scale war with an implacable enemy that they only barely defeated. Now, a generation later, the governments and infrastructure of those once-powerful nations have finally recovered to the point where some of them are preparing to explore the territories, colonies, and bases that they’ve lost, and discover a galaxy both familiar and alien. Your characters will be the likely-somewhat-irregular crew of the (shrunken, battered, but still extant) Federation’s first new starship in the better part of a century, on a mission to extend the edges of the map. The game world will feel like a gentle mixture of 90s-era Star Trek with a measure of Firefly and Oregon Trail thrown in, along with whatever else we collectively make of things.

All of these would not be first-come first-served; like the thread I’m running right now every character submission would be more like an audition. I also expect all of these ideas would have fairly small casts - likely not more than 6-8 people. That is, course, provided there’s enough interest to even start one of them. :3 I'm really only going to take on one of these ideas right now - as other things wrap up or come to the end of their stories, I might start others, though.

Let me know!
