J'onn J'onzz Detective Denver, Colorado The Justice League
C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T:

"Witty Quote"

The sole survivor of the planet of Mars, J'onn J'onzz finds himself stranded on the neighbouring planet of Earth. Taking on the form of Detective John Jones upon his death, J'onn hid amongst his newfound people, learning their ways and adapting. He kept his Martian heritage secret until the one known as Superman rose into the skyline of Metropolis. Deciding he could do some good to ensure that this planet didn't suffer like his homeworld, he joined with the Man of Steel and other superpowered individuals to help form the Justice League once an alien starfish attacked from the ocean. He's been with them ever since, with the Martian Manhunter standing as one of Earth's greatest heroes, while Detective John Jones continued to work amongst the Denver Police Department.

Despite his efforts to avoid it, J'onn soon finds himself having no choice but to delve into his past, as a recent investigation leads back to his very first days on planet Earth.

One of my favourite writing experiences in these kinds of games came from writing my interpretation of Marvel's Magik, the concept of which came about from adapting and expanding upon one of my favourite comic book issues. I decided to follow suit with that approach with this interpretation of J'onn J'onzz, however, instead of basing this on a particular Martian Manhunter comic, I've decided to make use of another piece of media that I love; Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water.

I wanted to try my hand at writing a detective story, delving into the intrigues of secret government laboratories, and the magic of lost love. J'onn hasn't just been hiding from a dark past on Mars.

Definitely a work in progress, but something i'm super excited for
Are there plans for including smaller in-game events like the ones introduced in the last game?

As Billy Kaplan stared up at the behemoth of a man before him, he uttered the whisper of a prayer in Hebrew. He had no idea who or what a Tempus Fuginaut was but having a golden-skinned being appear before you shouting your name was clearly a sign for the worst, especially in his line of work. His mind rushed back over everything the giant had said. Careless Actions. The comment stung. It was clear that what he had done to the Terror Twins was even worse than either he or Teddy had even imagined if it had put him on this guy’s radar.

What do you want?” Billy nearly stuttered as he spoke. It had taken a lot of willpower to open his mouth, let alone ask a question.

Tempus Fuginaut, as he referred to himself, simply looked down at him for a moment, as if questioning why someone so clearly beneath him had dare talk back. Billy expected the worse, yet no untimely death seemed to come his way. Instead, Tempus Fuginaut opened their mouth to speak once more.

I will show you.

Before Billy could even utter any form of protest, the world around him lurched violently.

The skyline darkened, quickly filling with the twinkle of stars. New York was gone none, leaving a void of space below him. Billy panicked, flailing his arms around him as he prepared to fall, yet by some miracle found himself floating in place. He gasped in amazement, his eyes taking all of the beautiful emptiness around him in. The stars were like scattered moondust in the sky. He’d never expected it to look so peaceful. He knew in an instant that this sight would never escape Billy’s memory.

He found a dazed smile escaping across his lips. If only Teddy was here to witness this with him.

Tempus Fuginaut simply looked down at the teenager, a smile of bemusement crossing his face at the sight of Billy’s adjustment to his new surroundings. It was odd to see such a regal looking being smile like that. It almost humanized them. Billy almost felt at ease for the first time since this whole ordeal had begun. Almost.

Billy nearly vocalized this thought, until the being began to talk again, with the booming tone of Tempus’ voice merely adding a god-like atmosphere to the space around them.

The world is forever a place of wonder, but with that wonder comes chaos.” As he spoke, Tempus gave a wave of his hand, and Billy watched as the vastness around them shifted, as if a movie projector were casting an image against the darkness. Billy recognized a great deal of the projections before them; he had watched the events in a state of terror long ago on his TV screen. The great beast Starro rising from the depths of the ocean. The alien attack on New York City. A green giant rampaging through a city. Other images he did not recognize quite so much. Parents rushing to save their infant child as their planet crumbles around them. Great battles of the Gods. A crazed scientist left for years on a barren wasteland by his team.

And then finally an image of Billy himself from earlier that day, the bodies of Tommy and Tuppence Terror lying unconscious below him. Billy shuddered to think of the other clips of himself misusing his abilities that could have appeared.

Where the Monitor’s and Watcher’s jobs are to watch and observe all of reality, I must preserve it.” Tempus Fuginaut continued, unfazed by the images beyond him. “Sure, other beings help…

At this, the images shifted. The clip of Starro moved to show the might of the Justice League facing the tentacled creature down. The Avengers arriving to fight off the invasion above Manhattan. A young metahuman feeling the vibrations of the world himself. No, not just one world. The vibrations of all worlds. There were more like him too, all throughout the multiverse. Even an anthropomorphic duck wearing a 3-piece suit. It was a big universe. Filled with heroes.

Billy found himself spinning on the spot in order to take it all in before they shifted into nothingness once more.

But I heal the tears in space-time and prevent them from happening.” Tempus stood tall and bold, radiating power as he spoke of his part in the world. “I seek to keep the universe in complete harmony until the Demiurge is born and can recreate it in his image.

It was a lot to take in. Superheroes he understood. He had been watching caped crusaders fighting criminals for years, and even been doing some of the fighting himself. It was second nature now. This on the other hand? This was different. This was otherworldly.

What.. What’s the Demiurge?” The first of a great number of questions on his mind.

A smile formed upon the golden man’s face once more.

Take a look for yourself.” He said, gesturing upwards towards the vastness of space before them.

Billy did not see it at first. He just found himself staring at the twinkle of the starlight, expecting another image to appear like before. Then he really began to see the stars, and how they were aligned in the darkness. The shining speckles twirled and danced along the sky in various patterns, forming lines. The lines of a face. The curls of hair. It was soon clear whose face it was bejewelled into the universe itself. It was Billy’s.

Why was it his face?

He opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. It was if they had gotten lost in this starry reflection before him.

Yes Billy Kaplan. You are the Demiurge.” Tempus’s words snapped Billy back to reality slightly. “The sentient life force of the Universe itself.

No… No I’m fucking not.” Billy declared loudly, turning to Tempus. He was shaking now. “I’m barely 18. I’m still a kid. You’ve got this all wrong sir, I-

Tempus raised a hand, cutting him off, further adding to Billy exasperation.

You may be young now boy, but it is your destiny. You only have a glimpse of your truth power currently, but it is growing by the day. I shudder to think of the damage possible by such power in the hands of someone so young and inexperienced.

Then what on earth do you expect me to do?” Billy exclaimed, waving his arms out in front of him in confusion. If what he could now was only a snippet of what was to come, then he wanted out.

Train. Stay here with me and I will teach you all there is I know.

Billy scoffed loudly at the thought.

I can’t stay here… I have a life. I have Teddy.

You think that this Teddy is more important than the universe itself?

Teddy is my whole universe.” Billy stated adamantly, clenching his fists. He knew it was selfish. He obviously knew what the right decision was here. But he couldn’t stay. He wasn’t ready for this. He wasn’t a God. “I want to go home. Now.

Tempus pursed his lips, glaring down at the teenager. Billy held his own and glared back. But it was not strength that fueled him. It was fear.

At last Tempus Fuginaut gave up.

Fine. But in time Billy Kaplan, you will accept your fate.

Good fucking luck with that.

With a wave of the giant’s hand, the world around Billy shifted once more. Gone was the beautiful background of stars. Now Billy was back on the rooftop from before, the wind rushing around him.

He stood silently, his eyes gazing over the city absentmindedly. The ring of his phone soon brought back into focus. He rushed to pull it from his pocket. It was Teddy, worrying where he had gotten to. He sighed a breath of relief.

Whatever it was that was happening, at least everything with Teddy was ok.

Most teenagers go on dates to the movies. Others awkwardly try and make small talk over a cup of coffee. Thankfully for Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman, they were superheroes, which meant that dates provided a bit more excitement compared to your regular pair of horny teenagers. They were Wiccan and Changeling; New York’s own personal heroes. And Billy could not be happier about it.

After a long day of choring away at a school desk, the two had escaped up to their favourite rooftop, where the luscious Manhattan skyline ran out before them. The brownstone was aged, and not particularly in the best neighbourhood, but it was the perfect spot to sit back and watch the city. As such, they had dotted the area with a few of their belongings. It wasn’t anything too special; a simple blanket, a small portable speaker, and some well-hidden snacks. But it was enough.

Teddy called it the Watchtower. Billy had tried to tell him that it didn’t make sense since it wasn’t actually a tower, but he didn’t care and just thought it sounded cool. They had laughed about it at the time. It was like they were school children, and this was their secret hideout.

The two had patrolled here regularly over the past few weeks ever since they’d revealed their abilities to one another. It had brought them even closer together. Being a superhero was everyone’s dream, especially since the day Superman had risen above Metropolis for the first time. And what was better than enjoying that dream with the person you care about most?

On top of that, it always felt good to put a stop to some crime. Tonight, was no exception. Other than the fact that tonight was not just a bunch of regular thugs that the two of them were fighting.

It was the Terror Twins.

Teddy had recognized them instantly from their perch within the Watchtower, from their bleach blonde hair to the tacky combination of white wifebeaters and red suspenders. Apparently, they had been on a crime spree along the east coast before going tail to tail with a couple of the Justice League. Their breakout had been trending on Twitter just that morning. And now here they were in the big apple. From the damage before them, it was clear that they weren’t just here as tourists.

So far, the fight had been going well. Wiccan and Changeling had leapt triumphantly down onto the street to confront them, changing into their costumes through the power of Billy’s magic as they did so. It hadn’t taken long for the Twins to spot them, with the two moving away from the corner bank they were in the middle of robbing and flexing their bulging musclebound bodies in anticipation for a fight - Billy could only wonder what the two cared about more; the money, or the violence that came with it. They’d thrown the first punch, with Tommy Terror (as Teddy had identified during the info-dump he had given on their short flight down) leaping aggressively towards the two heroes.

Teddy simply shifted his body in retaliation, his now green skin growing larger and rougher. He caught Tommy’s fist with ease, before pulling him close enough to follow up with a quick jab in the gut. Billy only got a glimpse of the twin’s pain before he found himself under attack himself.

Tuppence Terror was slightly smaller than her brother, yet still brawnier than Billy. That wasn’t an issue however, with Wiccan lifting into the air narrowly avoiding her reach, as a wave of electrical energy erupted from the palms of his outstretched hands. Whereas Teddy had to ability to shift his body however he pleased, Billy’s gift was something much more magical. He could make things happen. More complex things he had to wish for, but after weeks of practice, firing energy like this was a piece of cake.

He moved through the air, red cape billowing behind him as he encircled his target. Despite packing a punch, the energy seemed to do little more than slow her down.

“That all y’ got boy?” She laughed mockingly; her voice enthralled with a southern twang.

As if to add further insult to injury, the brute reached out to her left and ripped a car door from its hinges, before hurling it like a frisbee toward him. Eyes widening, Billy dived down towards the floor, narrowly missing it as it crashed through shop window behind him. A cry from that very same shop caught his attention as he moved to scramble to his feet. Turning, he saw that a mother and her daughter were cowering in fear inside, having also just luckily avoided the door. Billy grimaced. They had to end this quickly or people were going to get hurt.

I don’t think Captain America would appreciate you stealing his moves!” Billy exclaimed, turning back towards Tuppence and moving his hands up over his head. “Why don’t you take it backTakeItBackTakeItBackTakeItBack...

Billy’s mind went into overdrive as he repeated the incantation. And as he spoke, reality warped to his bidding. The car door, now wedged into the drywall at the back of the shop, lurched backwards into freedom, before flying right back to its sender. What more, was that as it passed over the threshold of the store, the remains of the shattered glass window seems to lift into the air too, with the glass shards shooting through the air like bullets.

Despite her speed, there was nothing she could do, with the glasses tearing into her body, and the door itself knocking her to the floor.

Billy punched the air proudly, only for both his fist and smile to drop once he caught sight of his boyfriend.
Despite having had the upper hand towards the start of the conflict, Teddy now seemed to be taking a battering, with Tommy issuing punches and jabs like a boxer. Teddy did all he could to avoid the hits, his body morphing from side to side, yet it wasn’t enough as an uppercut from Tommy sent him flying.

Billy watched in horror as Teddy’s body tumbled helplessly across the street before coming to a stop in an awkward pile. Tommy Terror chuckled through coughs of blood, with the hulk of a man heaving the atm safe that they had been robbing off the ground and over his head, before menacingly walking towards his injured victim on the ground.

Teddy’s body could do nothing but twitch in pain as Tommy Terror raised it higher.

Stop!

Billy’s cry rang out across the street, as a blinding light erupted from his body.

As it faded, Billy found himself high into the air, a magical aura of red floating around him as he drifted downwards. He panicked, his head darting around to see what had happened. The street seemed pretty much the same as it had been a few seconds ago; a few smoking cars and some rubble from the damaged bank and storefront. The only noticeable difference now was that the Terror Twins seemed to be laying on the ground motionless.

His eyes snapped over towards Teddy. Thankfully, he seemed to be rising to his feet, with the green-skinned teenager wearing a face of pure confusion. Billy’s heart leapt with joy. He did not know what he would have done if anything had happened to him.

Wha.. what just happened?” Teddy asked, scratching the back of his head as he pondered the crime scene before him.

The previous panic briefly returned to Billy now. What had happened? Had he caused that light? He watched anxiously as Teddy crouched down next to Tommy Terror, placing a green finger against his neck, clearly looking for a pulse. He simply let out a nervous laugh as he looked back up at Billy, who now found himself biting the tip of his thumb out of nervousness.

Well, they’re not dead at least.” He tried to sound jovial, in that very Teddy way, but Billy could tell he was nervous as well.

That’s a positive then...

The two stood awkwardly, their eyes taking everything in. The fun had gone now, and all that was left was an eerie feeling of dread.

The sound of sirens thankfully snapped them both back to reality.

Teddy glanced in the direction that they were coming. “We need to bounce. We do not need to try explaining a mess like this to the police again.” He said, before letting out a short laugh as he reflected on the aftermath of them having busted an arms deal a few weeks ago.

Finally smiling once more at the thought, Billy readied himself.

Right. I got this.” He didn’t like the idea of using his powers so soon after what had just happened, but they both knew that this would be the quickest way out of here. “TakeUsAwayTakeUsAwayTakeUsAwayTakeUsAway…

As Billy’s incantation rang out, the two costumed heroes vanished from the street. Billy then found himself reappearing several seconds later on a far-off rooftop.

It took him a couple of seconds to realize that he was alone. He let out a short gasp as he spun around on the spot, his eyes widening. Where was Teddy? Did his spell mess up? Had he done something to him?

Before Billy could dwell too long on these questions however, a voice boomed loudly behind him.

BILLY KAPLAN.

Billy yelped in confusion as he turned once more. Standing in the air before him was the largest being he had ever seen. Standing at around 20 ft tall, the being’s body seemed to be coated in glimmering gold, with the blue cloak wrapped around him giving him a somewhat regal appearance. His eyes were as bright and blue as the sky around them. Billy would’ve considered them to be beautiful if they didn’t seem to currently be narrowed in anger.

As Billy simply stared in astonishment, the being spoke.

Your callous disregard for the precedents of time and space have forced my hand, Child. You have no idea the havoc your careless actions cause. As I am Tempus Fuginaut, you have given me no choice.

Billy gulped. He was absolutely fucked.

Billy Kaplan/Teddy AltmanFuture Demiurge/Future King of SpaceNew York/Space
C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T:

"Truth. Justice." "And the homosexual way."

Billy and Teddy were inseparable during their time at school, and before long it was clear that this bond was more than just friendship. This bond was strengthened by the revelation of their abilities, with the two believing themselves to both be mutants. Given their obsession with superheroes and all things of that nature, it was only natural that the two decided to use their gifts in order to fight crime.

Little did they know, neither of the two were right about the origin of their abilities.

Galaxies away, a great war between the Kree and the Skrull Empire rages. Years ago during the conflict, a Kree warrior found himself imprisoned within the palace of Skrull Emperor Dorrek VII. There he met and fell in love with the emperor's daughter, Anelle, who gave birth to a Hatchling months later. Fearing for its life due to its parentage, she sent it away across the stars with a handmaiden, hoping to hide them from the war. Rumours of the half-breed echo across the battlefields, with many believing that the appearance of the long lost Prince Dorrek VIII could turn the tides of war.

Around this same time, the sentient life force of the universe itself, the Demiurge, began to prepare itself for its predestined host. A young baby was placed on the doorstep of an orphanage in the city of Manhattan. Neither the child, nor his adopted parents, had any idea what was in store for him.

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

Wiccan and Hulkling (hereby renamed Changeling because the name Hulkling is dumb) are a pair of characters that I have loved for years, with the two of them being my favourite relationship in comics. I've always wanted to bring them to life, and given the recent Empyre event by Marvel Comics, I am now more encouraged than ever.

Billy and Teddy are both characters predestined for greatness; Billy is set to become the omnipotent Demiurge, a powerful entity which gave birth to the Elder Gods, while Teddy is the saviour who is meant to unite two species that have been warring against one another for aeons. Within the comics, they have been building up to these events for years. This won't be the same for my interpretation, as Billy and Teddy, despite only just starting out as superheroes, will find themselves thrust into their destinies. I want to explore how these changes will affect them, and their relationship.

C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:

When it comes to my supporting cast, I want to announce off the bat that I will NOT be making use of the Scarlet Witch, or that aspect of Billy's history. I will be absolutely happy if someone were to pick up the character and play as her, and if they did wish to collaborate in that scenario, I will be more than happy to talk.

Another talking point is the Young Avengers. While I currently do not have plans to make use of them as characters, they are a topic I may approach in the future. That being said, I'd be perfectly happy if someone else were to make use of them. This would definitely be something I'd be happy to collaborate with as well.

As for characters I am interested in, one aspect of my story will deal heavily with the Kree and Skrull Empire, and as such, I will be pulling a number of characters affiliated with them. This will also include a range of other Cosmic based characters from both DC and Marvel.

I am also planning on using aspects from DC's Sideways series, namely their use of Tempus Fuginaut.

Wait... is this the third Bill & Ted movie everyone has been talking about?

Yeah, moving the franchise away from Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves and focusing on an unrelated pair of gay teenagers was an interesting choice on the director's part but I really feel it paid off.
Sample is all done for Billy and Teddy
