The atmosphere in Alexei’s steadily picked up as the sun receded and more people passed through the doors. The crowds filled the air with chatter and sounds of merrymaking, accompanied by the smell of warm meals and booze. In the background, the clacks of swung pool cues and colliding pool balls sounded rhythmically.

A lone patron greeted Vivian at the bar. She had a unique, memorable appearance that stood out from typically plainly dressed Ember Grove-ians, but Vivian appreciated her uncommon features. It reminded her of the years she spent working in hostels and New York City’s underground bars, frequented by all sorts of colorful people and subcultures. There was a ferocity in her appearance and presence as well; the stranger exuded a confidence that Vivian found appealing.

Vivian smiled at the guest’s request. “Akevitt… Hmm, not a popular drink around these parts, but you’ve come to the right place! We might actually have some. Give me a moment.”

She shuffled around in the lower cabinets for their extra stock of alcohol. The owner of the place seemed to have a knack for collecting unusual liquors, from exotic asian wines to spiced varieties from central and south america. The european stash seemed to be stowed in the lower left side of one of the cabinets, and it didn’t take long for Vivian to take out a bottle of the scandanavian spirit.

“Here it is, a whole unopened bottle.” She placed the bottle in front of the patron along with an empty, chilled glass for her to pour the drink into. “I can also make a custom cocktail for you out of this if you’d like.”

Vivian’s curiosity nabbed her to ask the customer more about her unusual request. It wasn’t typical for someone to order a whole bottle for themselves, unless it was wine. She predicted a conversation with her would be more interesting than the mundanities of most customers who have lived in this local bubble their entire lives. She smiled again at the fierce woman, “Are you new to Ember Grove? I just moved here myself a few months back, so it’s nice to see another outsider.” Vivian gestured at the bottle of liquor and lightly chuckled. “Looks like you have something to celebrate today.”

Arisa woke up when the sun did, sometimes earlier. A dark blue hue still clung onto the skies, ever so slightly painted by the sun’s first rays reaching from over the horizon. It was almost 6am, just enough time for Arisa to get dressed for her morning run and physical training. This had been her routine for the past few years, a rigid itinerary set by her father to prepare her to be a top class Red Demons soldier. As a child, Arisa used to complain about the brutal regimen, but has since learned to be grateful for the training that would keep her alive in battle.

There was more pep in Arisa’s stride as she ran. She was great at keeping her emotions off her face, but today, her excitement shone in the tenacity of her movements. Though she never doubted that she would become a member of the Red Demons, she still felt an intense pride of her accomplishment. Today was her first day as a Red Demons recruit. She wasn’t sure what the day would entail, but Arisa was looking forward to assessing the skills of her fellow recruits and receiving her very own Crimson Arm.

The Commander’s voice was stern as he addressed the rookies. Arisa stood in line with rigid posture, attentively hanging on to his every word. Her eyes deviated once to evaluate the others around her. At a glance, many of them looked baby-faced and petite—in other words, weak. In fairness, Arisa was young too, but it was surprising to see so many recruits that many may underestimate based on appearance alone. Regardless of what they looked like, Arisa knew that combat would be the only true way to measure their worth.

As the team followed the Commander into the facility, one girl broke the stiff silence with idle small talk. Arisa’s focus remained glued to the Commander’s back—she saw no value in participating in the girl’s chatter, and it seemed like some others in the group agreed. She remained silent as they marched through the corridors.

“Alright, an old fashioned coming up!”

Vivian tapped the order from one of the regulars into a point-of-service machine by the bar. She was giddier than usual thanks to Alexander’s hospitality earlier that day, though it would be fair to say that additional shots of alcohol did the most to influence Vivian’s mood. She decided to buy a few more after her benefactor left, in celebration of her new wealth. The afternoon remained leisurely as usual for the most part, with the unusual exception of a daytime brawl happening in the parking lot outside the establishment. Vivian had been playing more pool to kill time before the start of her shift and didn’t give it much thought. Bar brawls were a normal occurrence at Alexei’s either way.

Vivian quickly reached for the different ingredients for the old fashioned cocktail and set them in front of her. It was early in her shift and she could still feel an alcoholic buzz fogging her senses somewhat, so she decided to avoid a showy display of bartending tricks. She began assembling the cocktail by placing a glass on the bar counter and dropped in a sugar cube, along with several dashes of various bitters. The ingredients were quickly muddled together with a pestle before being stirred with whiskey and ice. Despite the robotic way Vivian carried out the steps after having made so many before, there was still a fluidity to her movements as she crafted the drink. A sliver of lemon peel was rubbed against the rim to release its essential oils and gently submerged into the beverage as the finishing touch.

The patron seemed happy to receive their drink so quickly after they ordered it. The thin crowd of the afternoon made it easier to give better service, but new groups of customers rolled in as the day inched closer to night, and Vivian became inundated with additional orders.
Do the new recruits have their weapons yet? Or are they given to them after their first day with the team?
omg I'm so so interested in this one!!
@SilverPaw That's too bad, I really liked your weapon idea.

@GingerBoi123 I can see Arisa being rather protective of Chou ahaha.

Are we waiting for more joiners before we start the IC thread?
Here's my cs! Let me know if anything needs to change.
